Second Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that Trump cannot block people on twitter.

Like it will matter, he will still do it and get away with it.

I saw that earlier and I do wonder what that means for members of the government in general on social media.

Basically, any official account is designated as a public forum. Private accounts used for private business are not. They ruled that since Donald Trump does not use the official POTUS account, but does use his personal account for official business, then it has become his de facto official account, and is thus open to the American public.

It's a little strange, a main thing I think about is the flood of harassment on those platforms but they're probably not checking notifications anyway. Past 30k they're effectively unusable anyway.

Trigger warning: references to N-word and rape

There was a similar case here in Sweden last year, where a government-run bureau for presenting/promoting the image of Sweden to the outside world (tourism, business etc) had been leasing their official twitter account (handle @Sweden) to a mixed bag of volunteers. So each week they had someone new coming in - a business person, an artist, an activist, a rookie journalist, or any John Blow who happened to become familiar to the people handling the operation - and get to use the account for free during a week, tweeting about their daily life, their thoughts, and how they felt about Sweden. There was very little screening before anyone got selected, it seemed to be very informal.

This had already led to some very weird tweeting (one black guy wanted to "joke with the racists" and wrote, on a public account; "I am the N**ro who will rape your sister and your daughter, they will moan for me, and you can't do a thing about it"), but when another political activist came in, kicked loose and also began using her own blocklist, a list she had built up together with her own activist friends, and even blocking people who had never replied to her "Sweden" tweets, the whole thing began to make a few headlines. The use of the blocklist was filed to the police, for the same reasons as with Trump - a public authority outlet can't walk around blocking people from reading them without very serious reasons - but it turned out that the bureau had resorted to their own solution to stay out of the courts:

They simply destroyed the blocklist from their records "by mistake", and then denied that it existed.  ::)

Donald Trump has got his wish, after tweeting his childish insults, as British Ambassador Sir Kim Darrach has resigned.

Theresa May and leadership contender both said they would retain him, without agreeing with his confidential assessment of the incompetent chaotic nature of the Trump White House, which so upset the President. However, leadership favourite Boris Johnson signally failed to support him, which is thought to have triggered Sir Kim's resignation. His position would have been extremely difficult, but it has been suggested that Trump would have forgotten about the criticism, given time.

There are a couple of big problems for Johnson now. Before he has even become Prime Minister, he now appears weak and unavailable to defend British interests against a dominant Trump, who thinks he can treat us a colony, and, secondly, he has lost the trust of the Civil Service who would expect at least some support when they produce politically neutral reports in the country's interests.

Quite a contrast with how Trump treats the other Kim in North Korea.

In my previous post, I missed out the words "Jeremy Hunt",  after "leadership  contender." Johnson's leadership rival rival did support the ambassador.

Someone commented on twitter: "Better to be one of the big boys in a club of 28 than the small lapdog of 1 superpower" and that really nails it. If Britain does leave the EU with a stripped-down deal or no deal, as Johnson wants more than anyone, it will inevitably have to rely more on the US and play by US rules. Making that pivot to a closer bond with Washington, away from the EU, was always going to be difficult, but five times more so now when US politics have become so volatile and with Trump at the head.

And Trump is sounding like he's speaking to a colony, a country that should know its place. I've already seen Trumpards commenting the affair, saying "The dog shall obey his master!".

QuoteQuite a contrast with how Trump treats the other Kim in North Korea.

That struck me too. :)

https://www.politico.com/story/2019/07/08/pompeo-panel-unalienable-rights-1400023

So on Monday it was announced, and we've gotten a look into it more. Mike Pompeo, Trump's Secretary of State, announced Commission on Unalienable Rights. It would appear it is being headed by various religious figures and is being praised by Anti-LGBTQIA+ organizations and Christian organizations for the ways it will be able to make less things be considered human rights as they feel the term is used too broadly. It appears this panel may be there to help define various groups and their rights out of existence, which is in line with Trump and his policies and desires.

It's been reported that the conspiracy theory that Clinton had Seth Rich killed was indeed planted by the Russians. It was seemingly very simply done, by posting it on an obscure website. Simply stating the conspiracy was enough, and it has been used by various supporters, allies of Trump and those in the White House, though I can't recall if he openly shared it himself though he has shared many conspiracy theories before.

So, Trump is having a 'social media summit' today

Notable attendees include Bill Mitchell, of QAnon fame; Carpe Donktum, a troll who won an 'anti-media' meme contest on Infowars, and Ali Alexander, who recently tried to convince people that Kamala Harris wasn't an 'American black'.

Notable platforms who aren't represented on the guest list:  Facebook and Twitter.

. . . Ali Alexander, who recently tried to convince people that Kamala Harris wasn't an 'American black'.

Obama got that same crap internally (I presume. It may have been Republican false flag) because his father was proper African.

Here's a test. Let's say Ms. Harris or Mr. Obama were back in their 20s before they were known were in a store. Do you suppose someone wouldn't follow them around on the presumption that they're a thief or what have you because some ancestor of theirs wasn't a slave? Do you suppose Billy Bob Git 'R' Done wouldn't be yelling the N-word at them because his great great grandpappy didn't own theirs?

Also, not directly Trump but clearly a Trump cultist, Mississippi Republican candidate for Governor Robert Foster refused to allow a female reporter to ride on his campaign bus without a male escort (not that kind) for the sake of Jesus/his marriage. It's just like Pence wanting to bring mother along for every interaction with one of them ovary havers. (For those of you outside the US 'mother' is what he calls his wife.) I find it hilarious how the same people who publicly scream until they're blue in the face about Sharia law act exactly like Wahhabists. Their problem is WHICH regressive interpretation of religion is forced down the throats of America.

Here's a test.

I'm not sure what you're trying to get across by even proposing that test.  Are there racists in the US?  Does a bear shit in the woods?

My point was that these people are getting invites to hang out with Donny and the boys, under the grand title of a 'summit'.  Summits are where leaders discuss policies, and Trump's bringing in trolls and dank meme-lords.

That's the point. Nobody is going to distinguish between person with African father and person whose father's father's father's father's father was African, so this 'not really black' thing is ridiculous.

Also, yeah of course the Orange Messiah's free speech internet thing is a farce. Everything he does is a farce because he knows his cultists won't question anything. Was anyone really expecting Dear Leader to have an honest summit on anything considering his previous "efforts" (voter fraud inquiry conducted by Kobach, climate study hosted by energy concerns etc. etc.)

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/house-judiciary-committee-votes-authorize-subpoenas-trump-officials-n1028756

The House Judiciary Committee has voted to authorize subpoenas for various current and former Trump officials. This is to investigate charges that he has been obstructing justice, among other things. This includes Jared Kushner, Jeff Sessions, Michael Flynn, Corey Lewandowski, Rod Rosenstein, John Kelly, and more.

These subpoenas are also authorized to be given in relation to Trump's separation of families at the border and within the country and the putting of migrants in concentration camps.

Note this is authorization to subpoena, not the subpoenas yet. Though whether any of them would answer the subpoenas is left up in the air, especially as Nancy Pelosi weakens her stance against the Trump administration further and further.

Presuming the 1000/24th comment is about Warren. By the way math works, that would make her super duper Indian. 24/1000th would be the way to show a very small percentage. He'd know that if his daddy didn't buy his way through 4th grade and beyond.

I'm thinking about it, and after reading it out loud to the family, I think that some anonymous White House staffer told him that she was 1/1024 (one one-thousand-twenty-fourth) Native American - which at least has the distinction of being an actual power of 1/2.  However, as noted, Trump never learned fractions.
