I have yet to get around to having a group rp on elliquiy, but I think I have finally gotten around to a decent idea that I'm willing to share, and if a enough people express interest we can gear out the details for a smooth Rp.

As the tittle may suggest the idea is focused around a siren's or better known as a "Mermaid's Cove" - The setting taking place on a tropical island off in the middle of nowhere the characters would fall in the one of four basic categories: "Merfolk, Castaway, Island Native, and of course sailor/pirate" - For the Rp to work I think generally not everyone can be the same ting, but as long as everything is balanced and there is plenty of sirens being played there shouldn't be too much of an issue.

The plot would be rather basic to start; the island natives would know of the cove, perhaps seeking to trade with the sirens for their magic they possess for various things, or foolish women or men who think they can capture the sirens for their own twisted rights. The larger picture could expand with a number of different things, the basic generic ideas would ether be the sirens attacking people by the masses, or outsiders attempting to steal the sirens for their own personal gain. (We can get more juicy ideas like Atlantis, undersea monsters plots a go after the rp starts flowing.)

Within the Rp I have no doubt there will be plenty of mature activity, Romance, drama, action and good old blood and gore. - and I hope to avoid cookie-cutter characters (Like for example pirates of the Caribbean, or little mermaid cut-outs) as well as most stereotypes (such as all sirens being female, or weak and helpless) - I picture there being little to no limits on this sort of Rp as well.

One twist although I do want to add as more of a power struggle is to dis-allow transformations. Mermaids, stay mermaids. Perhaps maybe adding a full moon theme where on full moons they can... But to better balance it I'd think it be better off as keeping the sea-creatures sea-bound. (Also makes for awesome tank scenes too)

I'm game, would you perhaps let me be a artist type character who's come to the island because he wants to draw pictures of the sirens?

Also what time period are you setting this in?

Endless Echo

I'd think the time line be best for around the 16-17th century (The golden age of pirates) it also puts a cap and control on most technology, I'd even be willing to go a touch bit steampunk, but I think that would be pulling away from the point of the rp.

And an artist-type player seems logical enough for me :D

Looks interesting. I wouldn't mind playing a merfolk

SapphireStar

I've been craving an rp involving mermaids, and I would love to play a mermaid and a pirate.

What sort of natives are we talking here? Full out Friday from Robinson Crusoe, lustful ancient Greeks forgotten by the world or just something more out of The Wicker Man (1973, not 2006)?

I'd probably say more around mayans would probably be closer for the time period setting...

5 people is starting to look pretty good, might need a few more merfolks though.

Do merfolk have to be the traditional fishtail version.

If not, I was thinking of something like this:

This doesn't have to end in a fight, Buck.
It always ends in a fight.
You pulled me from the river. Why?
I don't know.

You just had to make it into Meso-American, didn't you? Do you have a secret camera mounted at my bookshelves, because I can exlain the strange porn between my Mythos-collections and my 150lbs of books on Meso-American culture!  ::)

Count me in for a native! I'll get to work... soon.  :P

Edit: Just threw something together, drawing more of the Aztec than the Mayans, just because I have written more papers about the former and thus can throw together something stylish and plausible with a little fact to boot. Suppose then that this is a fictional Aztec "colony" on a larger island in an archipelago somewhere off the coast of Central America. The native culture survives on fishing on the other side of the island from the Cove, agriculture along the sides of the central mountain and wars with the surrounding islands à lá Flower Wars of its mainland counterpart.

Tlaloctitlan (City of the Earth, named after the God of rain Tlaloc) is the city atop the mountain overlooking the Siren Cove, called Atlmomoztli (Altar of Water) by the natives. The almost constant rain that pours down on the mountain is carried in aqueducts cut out of the mountain through fields of crops and down to the cove. The city's king, Tepiltzin, like his predecessors, punish any polution of the waters harshly, for the Sirens of the Atlmomoztli are believed to be children of Tlaloc, birthed by the waters flowing from the mountains. The olny time that the waters are tampered with is after a successful campaign of war, when prisoners of war are sacrificed upon the Temple of Tlaloc and the blood poured into the aqueducts. As well as the classic Jaguar and Eagle warriors, the natives of the island also form an ocean inspired warrior caste that I have yet to find any appropriate theme for.

The character I have in mind, Yaotl, was chosen at the prime of his warrior's life to become the sentinel of the cove, living in a small shrine-like structure on the cliffs surrounding the Atlmomoztli and making sure outsiders are dealt with swiftly and ruthlessly. The sentinel is also the only one except the priests of Tlaloc who may lay eyes on the alluring creatures, although he is forbidden from speaking with them. Having spent years now in solitude watching over them as they swim around in the cove, he is longing for their company. Surely they must have seen him when he walked along the cliffs looking down on them. But one stormy night he sees fire on the horizon of the ocean, two large shadows clashing until only one remains. As the ocelots cried out before the sunrise, the bad omen was made worse. The two shadows of course being a pirate ship sinking a galleon. Who knows how Yaotl will react to a potential castaway.

Just my own ideas so far, it was a fun exercise that had me scrounging through my old university tomes again.  ;D

Interested in playing a siren... Or. Well. If it's possible, a siren-human hybrid. I actually have a longstanding character who I absolutely love sliding into character with. She's also one who's easily tweaked to fit a time period/setting. Same goes for an all-out mermaid character I have, so I'm prepared on either front! Let me know if/when we can post sheets!

Also... Kimera: I was wondering on appearances too! I know everyone leans toward different flavors, and mine in particular are pretty traditional as far as mer-folk go. Tails, tails, tails! But when it comes to my siren, I like them looking like ordinary(well, unearthly and extraordinary) women until they open their mouths and show their rows of sharp toothies. When it comes to how I've played full on merfolk, I've adopted the 'Splash' world workings, which is simply; wet = fishy half, dry = human half. Just some ideas, I'm just interested to see how this all might play out.

I too would also be down for playing a siren or an island native, whatever's needed more.

I can't believe nobody's interested in PIRATES! I am down for swashbuckling.

Ack! I've been really busy guys So I haven't had the time to setup a group rp topic for this... If someone wants to go ahead and iron out the details to go ahead and get started, by all means please do! Hopefully I will catch up very soon =/
