Read no further than the second paragraph of the article: "In an interview with Russian media, ..."

Assad wants Russian support. Russia is not on the best of terms with 'the West' at the moment. Add those two factors together and the result isn't all that surprising.

He already HAS Russian support. Equipment and weapons are flown into Syria, to help combat IS. At least, that's the statement given out by Lavrov.

Appropriate.

Since the US is urging Russia to aid the Coalition and engage Isis since they are mobilizing in that region.

In case there was some doubt with all the recent 'recovery' chatter, median US wages found to be still the stuff of almost 20 years ago.

Quote
Despite the fact that 1.2 million more men and 1.6 million more women were working full time in 2014, the median household income was $53,700, an amount that, according to the census bureau, is “not statistically different” from the 2013 median household income of $51,939.

The 2014 amount is 6.5% lower than it was in 2007 and 7.2% lower than it was in 1999, when household income peaked at $56,895.

Currently Americans are earning as much as they were in 1997, when the median household income was $53,551.

The median income for black households in 2014 was much lower, at $35,400.

Quote
The census report also found that in 2014 women were still earning 79% of men’s wages. Median earnings for men were $50,400 a year, while women earned on average about $39,600. For every age group, starting at 18 years old, women are more likely to live in poverty than men.

And he wants to keep Russian support. He may have been motivated by that desire himself, or someone in Russia may have hinted to him that making such a statement might be a good idea. Either way it serves to emphasize the connection between Russia and the Syrian government at a time when Russia might want to point out their influence on Assad in some of their dealings with the West. Not saying that Assad is saying those things to get Russian support, but it might be a small part of paying the Russians back for support already received, or perhaps just a bit of mutual back-scratching that is part of friendly relations between countries. But whatever his motivations, those statements were made with a certain audience in mind (as so many statements by politicians everywhere).

I do like to add that the weapons that Russia has shipped over to Syria are defensive weapons. Some howitzer artillery and a ground to air missile system.

And a couple hundred navy footmen on a military base with the capacity for 1500 men. Potential..

I wonder...

Nah.. never mind.

... okay that's just sad.

Also stupid though. Yes, the homemade clock looks like the timing mechanism for a bomb (of course) but am I the only one who looks at that photo and realizes that there's no explosives in there? Kinda hard to have a bomb without something to go boom.

Also... of course it's the arabic looking kid named Mohamed that people suspect of having a bomb. *sigh*

I kinda mentioned that to a few people on Facebook.  *raises hand*  Also, if it was a 'hoax bomb' as one of the people involved said, you'd think that the kid wouldn't have been telling everyone that it was a clock.  Maybe if the circuitry had been a little more complex, they could have suggested there was somewhere to hide explosive material - but no.

In Amsterdam (where else) women can soon pay for a beer using.....

their breasts.

http://www.at5.nl/artikelen/147421/vrouwen_betalen_bier_met_borsten   (only in Dutch sorry but probably available soon in English)

Apparently pornhub invented something called 'titcoin'. Basically if you are a woman, you have the bartender photograph your tits, he uploads it to Titcoin and you get a free beer.

I think that:

a) There will be a legal investigation into this
b) A lot of women will not come there anymore
c) The cafe will get a million applications for bartender in the coming days.

I saw this on the local news and I think it won't become a big hit, but more like a fun gimmick. If you watch the movie from pornhub then you'll get a better understanding of it. Keep in mind that it's optional to pay this way. If women want a beer but don't want to pay for it, then they can flash their breasts and get the beer. If they don't feel like having their breasts on the Internet, then they can also pay with euros. In addition, pornhub is also donating a part of the earnings to breast cancer research, so those who take part in it are also supporting charity.

If anything, it's sexist that men can't flash their chest for free beer as well. :P

Really though, in all honesty I don't think it's really going to take off. It's an alternative paying method, just like how you can pay with bitcoin in some stores. It's not really a big deal if you ask me.

I read a few years ago about the idea of a subdermal "paying chip" that would be tried out in bars and nightclubs. It was to be preloaded with money or linked to one's credit card so that the guys could flex their biceps and show the spot on their (upper or lower) arm where the bartender was to move his reading pen... ;D

I'm glad someone said this.  I'm also glad that pornhub (being pornhub :P ) didn't suggest what they would consider the male equivalent.

Subdermal 'paying chips' would certainly make it harder for someone to lift your wallet - although I can see certain groups protesting it as a 'mark of the beast'.  (Not that those groups would be typically found in bars and nightclubs.)

Considering the rate at which technology becomes obsolete, I would be pretty hesitant to get something implanted.

Although nothing like that seems to be the case here.  It's a simple 'show us your boobs for free beer' rather than a new payment process/currency.  Also, inevitably a money maker as the price of a few beers will be quickly offset by online revenue for views of said boobs.

It also carries into the privacy element. Would you really want a microchip or such under your skin? That's terrifying to me, the idea someone might be tracking me at all times due to that chip @3@  since Yu just know the government/intelligence agencies would not miss the chance to use that for their own reasons.

As long as it's a voluntary thing and not a mandate (which includes venues saying that they 'only accept subdermal chip payment'), I'm neutral to it.

Very much so. The  idea of a throng of men all flexing their biceps and bending their arms up when they are about to pay the bartender has something really funny about it though.  ;)

Representative Paul Gosar has decided to boycott Pope Francis' address to congress.

The reason is that the Pope intends to address the issue of climate change.  Gosar says in part:

QuoteMedia reports indicate His Holiness instead intends to focus the brunt of his speech on climate change--a climate that has been changing since first created in Genesis. More troubling is the fact that this climate change talk has adopted all of the socialist talking points, wrapped false science and ideology into “climate justice” and is being presented to guilt people into leftist policies.

False science and ideology?  Guilting people into leftist policies?

*headscratch*

Does this man live in some sort of alternate universe?  The mindset of Gosar and people like him confuse the hell out of me.  Do they truly believe that science is false?  Does he actually think that people are making up all of the data?  Is he actually that ignorant, or has he brainwashed himself to believing what he is saying is the truth?

If he and others like him truly do believe what they are saying....it terrifies me for the future.

The Pope is posing a bit of a problem with the GOP.  On the one hand, he's the freaking Pope, and the Bible Belt is used to having the Pope being 'their guy'.  On the other hand, Pope Francis is the most liberal Pope the RC Church has seen in a long time.

I'm not even Catholic and I love Pope Francis.

I just don't understand how Gosar (and people like him) are able to stick their heads in the sand and deny climate change.  Is it that they have 'tunnel vision' and aren't able to see past the end of their noses.  I really bothers me that we have so called intelligent people in the political ring who can look you dead in the eye and say it's not true.  The level of disconnect to what is happening in the world scares me.
