Pokemon Dark

Inspired by ZP's review of Pokemon White.

Long ago, chaos swept across the planet. The conflicts that had brought society to a state of hopeless disrepair have long been forgotten. The cities bury their roads with their own fallen remains, buildings leaning against each other, like wounded soldiers, while all the while thick smog envelopes the land. Outside of the city run rivers of toxic sludge, mutations running wild throughout the flora and fauna, unchecked for decades.

Pallet City is not a nice place to live. The thing is... no one seems to realize the state of their home. The reasoning for the technologies deployment, like the wars themselves, have been lost. Every citizen has a chip on their temple, altering their minds to see a different view of the world. It is a beautiful, picture perfect place, the old windowless warehouse looking a polished and well maintained gym, the hard, dead soil outside fields of sweeping green, and the mutated Rats that nest within the old frames of cars brightly coloured creatures.

Using glass vials filled with a mix of mind altering chemicals, they can erase a creatures inhibitions and trick them into swearing loyalty to them, following their commands and fighting for them to win the broken bottles and cans they need to advance, or the other small bits of trash they trade for food.

But thats not what they see. To the Trainer, that tall tower he just climbed was really a broken sky scraper. That epic battle at the top with the roosting Pidgioto was really a mutated crow. The Pokeball he tamed it with was really a vial of chemicals he smashed against its face. The Badge his new Pokemon won for him at the Gym was really a twisted sardine can. The friend that you watched set out for his great journey was really mauled and killed.

Your Chip is failing, and you are starting to see through this illusion. The truth will soon be revealed to you, and when it does, you'll have no choice but to continue this lie of a life, to secure your own survival.
