Title: Ingame

Excerpt:
We follow the tale of a man who survived a horrible 'gameboy explosion', only to find himself stuck in a weird place where gameplay elements have intertwined with his own reality. Now there are other fantasy races in this world, dragon attacks, evil villains, yet no one really is all that shocked about it. He'd essentially be a player within a world of NPC's. Hilarity and perversion quickly become frequent occurrences during all of this. What is his quest? Who is going to help him?

(Basically different gameplay elements are added to his life. He'd essentially be able to use them/take advantage of it.)

Content:
-RPG elements
-Fighting
-Physical alteration
-Mental alteration

Setting:
Fantasy -Modern

My Character(s):
I'd play the 'player' in this setting. An ordinary man who, until recently, had a very boring life.
Beyond him I will be playing a large cast of side characters/monsters to enrich the world and the plot.

Your Character(s):
The story was written with both males and females in mind.
Their genders, ages, personalities, physical traits would be up to my character to decide.
They could simply be a NPC or a Player like him. They could be old friends of his, co-workers or even family members.

Inspiration for the scene:
'Solo-leveling' and a bunch of others.

Prologue: A world reborn

The young man woke up screaming, his vision blinded and his whole body felt sore. His screaming quickly drew the attention of people who began to hold him down whilst talking to him, suggesting he'd calm down.
In the background a nurse ran for the phone to call the doctor and for somebody to inform his family. In the end, they had to sedate him as his thrashing began to grow wilder and wilder.

Five days later he sat in a chair across several doctors and physician assistants. They had run several tests, removed the bandages from his head, and allowed the young man to wander around on his own.
His sudden recovery was quite unexpected. They had told him that he had been in a coma for several months now after suffering a terrible head injury from a handheld device. One of the doctors explained that they had to operate several times to remove all the bits of plastic, metal, and circuitry from his skull. They had removed most of it, yet there would no doubt be trace amounts still stuck there.

On his side were his relatives, each one of them chatting with the doctors, inquiring as to if there would be any lingering effects or if there might be long-term damage. They discussed a healthcare regime for the next few weeks and scheduled more appointments for him to see the specialist. As this was going on the man stayed quiet and simply stared at a spot in the room. The rest of them figured it was still shock on his end, yet the man was simply fixated on a thing in the room that only he could see; A giant blinking screen that was visible and was hovering a few feet away from his vision.

"Welkom new player!"
"Would you like to start the tutorial?"

Three weeks had passed since he had woken up from his coma. He had been discharged after the first week and had been allowed to return home seeing as he was doing remarkably well.
Physically he was fine, minus the occasional migraine and small scarring, yet emotionally and mentally he was still recovering. The doctors had explained that it was quite normal for a person in his condition to suffer from lapses of mental fatigue or even memory loss.
In the case of Lance it was a peculiar one. He remembered his family, the location of his house, his friends, even tiny insignificant things such as where he had last placed his phone. The trouble he had was that he only really remembered humans and not any of the other races or even some professions. He had been quite shocked when had seen an orc patient in the hospital, or even an elf that was one of his doctors.
When he first stepped out of the hospital he and screamed at the sight of a griffon flying over his head or parties of adventurers meeting up with a party member that was discharged.
His family tried to guide him through this process as best as they could, yet clearly, the young man needed more time.

So, three weeks had passed. He had slowly come to terms with his predicament and even came to the realization of several things;
1. He really, really wasn't dreaming seeing as it had been a while and no amount of pinching was working.
2. People in this world were similar to his old life, yet different. There was free will, yet also NPC-like behavior when he inquired about certain topics.
3. As far as he knew no one had a similar screen in front of his face that signaled he was a player.
4. Everyone had a background, a job, a title, and a min and max level cap, excluding a player.

His life had changed drastically. From the research he could do, having dug through the remains of his exploded Gameboy, he figured that reality had fused with the device and the games it contained.
He tried to recall what games he had stored, yet at the very least he recalled several RPG's. He was hoping that it was contained to just that and not his whole collection of games he generally had in his room.
Having finished the tutorial screen in front of him he had finished the crash course of this world. Apparently, each npc entity, be they monster or humanoid, was born at a specific level cap. Training and age could increase it, yet only to a certain degree. A Boss entity would always have a higher level than a mere pawn and a guild leader would always be higher than an average store clerk.
The only exception to this rule were the players and his party members.

Now having access to an inventory, party, character, and store screen he figured it was time to explore further. There had to be a reason why he was here and a way to get out of this place.
He recalled that several RPG games generally had an end-game reward where a player could fulfill his wish. Perhaps this was his way out?

But, he knew he couldn't do it alone. For starters he was clueless as to where to start, he was a level 1 and had never fought something before. So, he needed a party member or a whole squad.
But where to start? He could invite most NPC's, be they friends, strangers or even relatives. Perhaps he could start there?
