"Show new replies to your posts"

Is there any way to modify which topics will flag under the above button? There are a few old topics that I posted in before that keep showing up among the ones I'm actively trying to follow, and would like to know if there's some way to cut away the ones I'm not interested in at the moment. I've tried to click the "Unnotify" button but it doesn't do anything - I still get the prompts/notifications.

Thank you! Though I'm curious: do you check the boxes for the ones you want to keep getting notifications for, or the ones that you don't?

As I understand it, the option lets you go to your 'check new replies', and check off the ones that you don't care to read, and hit the 'Mark Selected As Read' button.
