If I could suggest, maybe timeskips at point to put us a few levels ahead at times >.>

Gaining XP slowly tends to cause people to burn out of a play-by-post game, whereas steady advancement keeps their interest.

I'm not doing the standard way of things.  You're not just any students, but a talented few who will eventually save Redhurst from a dire threat!

So you don't have to worry about being stuck at a low power level.  You're still students, however.  Just ones more experienced with dangerous threats.

Old ones go away for the new ones like the lowest one is a beetle form, the Matron gets to blend two forms and lays eggs but pops at 15th level so it takes longer to mature. But they are females so being amazing take longer than brute males to blossom.  ;D

But they don't have to change I just like the cute caterpillar race in which case I would in game have no gender, the most likely ones would be lower tier though if I decide to change. Noting it takes two feats to do so is also not cheap to change its a process. So will role-play that out. But they are small and unique likely from some work where magic is seriously screwed up like Faerune after the Spell Plague. I'm thinking of the situation of my character just mastering the base form. Larvite Lifer feat is very likely at 6th Level it means no metamorphosis but it gets bigger after eating like a pig and doing the process.

And technical many don't evolve beyond getting bigger. She will just have to do that via her Eidolon.  ;D

Or Enlarge Person. ;D

Wait, are Entobians considered humanoids or vermin?  The text describes them as humanoids, so I'm leaning towards that.

QuotePerhaps the oddest looking of available PC classes, larval entobians, also known as “larvites,” can be likened to vaguely upright walking caterpillars with thin and elongated limbs. All entobians have six limbs; two arms and legs like most other humanoids, and a pair of mid-legs. Their arms end in three digit hands and their legs end in two clawed toes. An entobian’s mid-legs aid in attack, balance, movement, and object manipulation, though these appendages end only in very sharp points. While these limbs are sheathed in rubbery chitin, the larvite’s body is fleshy and covered in coarse hair.

One more important thing: sexual content.  Since this is a group game, I want to get a feel for peoples' thoughts.

Overall I'm going for "plot with porn."  Sexy stuff can definitely come up from time to time, but I don't want it to be the primary thing or dominate the game.

As for Ons and Offs, I really am only uncomfortable with out and out rape, as I feel that it kind of adds a more grim feel to the narrative and makes me feel uncomfortable.  As for more grey area stuff, I'm open: a succubus visiting a student's dreams uninvited, yet he comes to desire and enjoy it, is fine.

Other Offs involve scat and bathroom stuff, bestiality, and mutilation.

whatever you guys want to do. ill just have little Na'ima go hide somewhere when you are all sexing it up :)

ShadowFox89

Don't really have any offs besides the three usual (bathroom play, bestiality, and mutilation), major ons are tentacles and bondage though :D

My character is a genderless caterpillar I suppose she will lean to the female with a softer voice but being an insect sex is not likely to matter. Not sure if she even has parts to "diddle" with for fun.  :D

Plot with porn sounds good to me.  I like to know we can go there if the adventure takes us, but I'll get irritated if it starts to sideline the plot or make things into farce.  A pair of randy students are fooling around during watch and are caught with their pants down, or trying to be covert in the back of a boring class, can be fun.  The adventure waiting for them to screw back in their room, no.  Basically, if it's delaying things or getting over the top, make a personal thread and do it there.

Read my ons and offs if you like; that said, I'm not seeing any potential for shenanigans here myself so I'm not too worried about it.

Make a side thread for sexytime to happen. If you post in sexytime, you are still obliged to post in the main IC threads.

I second the notion of a Sexytime thread for more involved amorous pursuits. >:)

And maybe one of the school's dungeons has a betentacled monster or three looking to 'get intimate' with a girl.... >.>

Looks like we've already got a good 4 people.  AndyZ expressed interest earlier, but he hasn't responded.

What do you folks think?  Should I leave the thread open for a little while more?

Either way, I'll need time to come up with an adventure.  I could write something up in a few days, although I'd be interested in PC backstory first for things to build off of.

ShadowFox89

Hmm.... Well, I was thinking that Mel's mother would be a powerful archmage in Aerenal with her father being from Valenar.

If we're going to be waiting a few days to start an adventure anyhow, I'd say try to find another player or two.  Since this thread is getting long enough that most will assume it's not full/not bother to read through, I really suggest you adjust the title [need two more players].

Anything specific you'd like to see in an expanded backstory?

Another concern is that this is my first time DMing a Play-by-Post game.

I've seen people have an ideal posting schedule for stuff, such as round-by-round combat and moving the plot forward.  Like "if you don't post within X hours/days: the DM will decide your character's action" for matters of combat.

What are folks' schedules and average posting rates?

I think I have room for just one more PC.

I can't think of anything specific.  Just some thoughts, but I wouldn't mind having a PC be a noble scion in disguise/hiding.  Attempting to adjust to a non-court life, as well as concealing one's identity, should make for some fun conflict and role-play.

Edit: Another idea I have is a more organically evolving sort of plot.  Normally when I DM I spend several days working on an adventure, but given Play-by-Post schedules there's not a single "game night" so to speak.  I could get up a thread within several hours (or tomorrow) by writing out an opening scene as the PCs visit Redhurst on the first school day.  More of a "welcoming party" way for the PCs to get to know each other.

Thoughts?

ShadowFox89

My posting schedule tends to be "as soon as I think of something to write". :\

That can be thirty seconds after the last post, or three weeks. My problem is I'll only post when I'm happy with what I've got, and if I think what I post fits for the character.

Mel being the daughter of an archmage from Aerenal would technically make her akin to nobility... Raised in luxury, spending her free time in all kinds of pleasure (girls, boys, tentacle'd creatures....)

Cool, and good to know - GMing pbp is a very different experience but not a hard one.  Actually, I often enjoy it more since you never feel so on the spot.  Keeping the pacing right - with the game moving forward steadily, but not leaving anyone behind - is the trickiest bit.  My best bit of advice is to keep communication open in OOC.

I've been hunting a new job for the last few weeks, so expect me to be on...well, quite a lot.  Once I get something new, I'll probably still be on daily but I usually like to give myself a bit of time to percolate a response, so every couple days is typical unless I'm in the flow.

Combat can seriously drag, yes.  My preference in stuff like this is pretty much what you stated: we post our intentions, you sort it out, each round taking no more than 2-3 days, including any back and forth (saving throws, attacks of opportunity, that sort of stuff can grind everything to a halt).  Ultimately, please feel free to make any rolls for me, just post the formula so I can pipe up if you missed a stat or ability.

As for starting the adventure, yes, basic "arriving and settling in" sorts of posts will take a few days by themselves.  It sort of depends when you want things to kick off.
