Well here goes nothing for you all. With some help I've been putting this particular game idea together for awhile. The general idea behind this is a setting that combines animes like Black Lagoon and Gunsmith Cats. So the city, which is in the title is where everything takes place. It's a combination of Miami from the 1980s, Vegas from the 1960s and LA from the early to mid 1990s. There is criminal organizations that control the city's underworld and yes there is law and order but a lot of times if you are on the mob's payroll they pay the police to look the other way. The characters will be working out of a bar owned by my NPC and where the PCs will be working for their "day job". When jobs come in my NPC will hand them out to the characters to perform. If they succeed they get paid. If not they don't get paid and develop a bad reputation.

For now this is an interest thread. If I get enough interest I'll add more later.

Also if you want to play a transgender character I don't mind this is quite the LBGT friendly game. All of my games are just so people can know.

Name: Sakurako Tokito
Age:
Nationality: Japanese-American
Backstory: Sakurako was a common target of bullying in school due to her ethnicity, higher grades, sexuality, and meek nature making her such an easy target, leaving her with a natural stutter. With her parents too focused on her grades and the american school system being what it is in terms of stopping bullying, all she could really do was keep her nose in the books and hope it all would go away. After a big test one day, in a fit of jealousy, the bullies all ganged up upon her and left her beaten and bruised. However, unfortunately for her assailants, this was the time she finally snapped from all the stress and tossed a homemade miniature explosive she had been testing out. Once she had finally came to her senses, Sakurako was terrified at what she had done, knowing the police would soon be hunting her down for the brutal murders that occurred. Having no other option, she ran away and hid on the streets for several years. Eventually coming across a mysterious patron, the deadly bookworm works for them in order to have any easier time keeping the police off her trail.
Personality: Sakurako is usually a meek wallflower with low self-esteem. She also tends to be rather cleaver and is very capable at thinking on her feet. However, there are times where she snaps at the sight of bullying these days...

Name: Nyx

Age:  23

Gender:  Female

Nationality: Irish

Bio: Nyx had no name, no memories and no past before the crime syndicate known as Miasma. It was a secret alliance of many large criminal organizations who had the goal of uniting the criminal underworld under a single banner. Through a combination of drugs, indoctrination, and brainwashing techniques, they stripped Nyx of her past, her memories, and even her name until there was nothing left but a loyal tool who was trained to become the greatest killer possible with no feelings, no conscience, and no mercy who would obey any order given by her creator.  For a time the group were successful thanks to a series of well-placed hits on many powerful bosses by their top assassin known simply as Night Angel that were considered untouchable that put sympathizers and members in control of different organizations steadily growing the syndicate and making their ideal closer to reality. It would not last however and the organization was brought to its knees. She was sent in. Her creator ordered her to eliminate the head of Miasma so he could take charge. She succeeded but a battle between loyalists and those who worked for her creator broke out, wiping each other out with assistance from opposing groups that had allied against them. Miasma was gone. Nyx was left without orders and no place to go.

She left her past and reputation far behind her with the bodies of all of those who had known her merely becoming another drifter without purpose. She wandered from town to town using all her skills to earn just enough to survive, both those for murder and those she had learned to blend in with society both high and low. She would never stay in one place long and when she left there was usually at least one body left behind. Eventually she found herself in Southtown. At the moment she works at the Angel’s Parabellum as a jazz violinist, the violin being a skill she picked up to sneak into parties held by the upper crust, as part of the entertainment, occasionally taking on more dangerous work when the need arises.

Personality: Nyx is often seen as cold and apathetic or distant with little understanding of what feelings are. Despite that she is an excellent actress able to slip into any skin that’s needed for a mission. More often than not unless she’s playing some kind of role she doesn’t say much and sometimes it seems she has almost no presence at all. Having never truly lived for herself before and unable to kill without an order unless in self-defense, she takes on jobs without thinking of the consequences and takes them to have a purpose if just for a little while.

Orochimaru

Name: Vincezo "Knight" Maronelli

Age: 36

Nationality: Italian American

Backstory:
Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
Vince is a former S.W.A.T. officer of the NYPD. For many years, he lived in New York with his Wife and young daughter. Among his fellow officers, he was known as a knight for his moralistic, chivalrous and gentle nature while still giving anyone hell who deserved it or pissed him off. When deployed, he complete his orders without question and to the letter; a model soldier. At home, he was a loving husband and father. Dotting both of his girls endlessly and helping them any way he could. There was nothing but love and happiness in his household, until the remnants of an Italian mafia gang broke into his home and caught him off guard using several underhanded tactics. He was cuffed to a chair and had to watch as his wife was beaten mercilessly, them his 11 year old daughter as tied down, raped and set on fire. Before his daughter was set on fire, Vincenzo was taunted and beaten upon, but before his daughter was set on fire; the leader of the small group poked and sliced his left eye with a pocket knife before putting his cigar into the now destroyed eyeball. It was then they set his daughter on fire, which would eventually consume and burn to the ground his home. Vincenzo managed to escape his bonds, beaten and broken mentally and physically.

After a while in the hospital, his wounds healed, but he was still constantly reliving his nightmare. All he did was wake up, eat and then sleep. It was like he was not even alive. In such a state, they would not even let him back into work and forced him to be discharged. This meant he literally had nothing left, no home, no family and no job and it was that night he snapped. There was now rage pouring out from his pain and anguish; injustice was done and defeat. Something he would no longer stand and take. He broke into the Police Department and went to the S.W.A.T. quarters, taking his former uniform with ballistic vest and various pieces of equipment including: Stinger, Flash and Tear Gas grenades, Heckler & Koch MP5 Submachinegun, M1911 Pistol, Bernelli M3 Shotgun and a Remington 700 Sniper Rifle and a Ballistics Shield and some other items.

He then quickly tracked down the people and took them out. Ruthless and without mercy. It took him one night, but in the aftermath, he knew he was now a wanted man and fled the city he once called home; making his way to Southtown and covering his tracks.

Personality: Vincenzo is usually the strong and silence type, but while he is polite, he can and will be blunt and to the point with his words. He does not tolerate any sort of lies and bullshit. Despite that, he can take jokes and sarcasm. He is a gentleman and is still chivalrous to those around him. On the flip side, he can be downright cruel, cunning and sadistic to his enemies to the point of inhuman; all caused by the trauma he suffered. Surprisingly, he can even be comedic in his jokes or actions and be completely random about it.

Well for those of you who might be watching this thread here is a little background information on the setting.

Major Faction details

Inner city gangs do leg work for each group.

4 major factions an Italian mafia, Russian Mafia, A South American Cartel, and Yakuza.

Colombian Cartel:
Job specialties: drugs
Dress: The brass wear suits for meeting but in general dress casually on the streets
Act: Aggressive and Emotional, hot headed. Don’t really have a code unlike the others and just care about money, doing whatever it takes to get more money or power. Often use violence as both the first and last resort. There is no line for them, they do whatever they want and target whoever they want if they think it’ll benefit them.
Combat behavior and equipment: Swarm tactics and use whatever they have on hand and that’s easy to get.

Russian Mafia:
job specialties: casino owners, racketeering, and money laundering.
Dress: Suits
Act: The professionals, run it like a business, cold blooded and disciplined, willing to do what they have to in order to keep the money rolling in but know not to rock the boat unless they have to avoid disturbing the cash flow.
Combat behavior and equipment: disciplined tactics, dependable assault rifles and other Russian weapons.

Italian Mafia:
Job specialties: smuggling and also minor casino owners.
Dress: Suits
Act: Typical Italian crime family from the movies, honor, can be hot blooded but typically try to be professional, a very close knit group. Generally follow the code an eye for an eye if a family is targeted but in general have a code and know where to draw the line.
Combat behavior and equipment: Rely on sudden assaults and ambushes. Usually use small concealable weapons, pistols stilettos, and whatever else they can carry on their person.

Yakuza:
Job specialties: prostitution and blackmailing/gaining influence with officials.
Dress: Suits, generally tattooed
Act: Mainly males, respect and honor are held above all else. Tend to have some training in close quarters combat. While they are usually respectful if they think someone is insulting their honor or challenging them they are quick to get aggressive and have no qualms with using force to prove a point if someone is unwilling to follow their duties or responsibilities. Semi-legitimate and usually have ties to the community, whether making sure to clean up and protecting them from those who come on to their turf as they understand the need to be viewed favorably by the people under their control and from where they draw recruits from.
Combat behavior and equipment: Most carry more modern weaponry and silenced weaponry as well as a close ranged weapon, usually a tanto but other close combat weapons are possible.

Daril

Well, I'm interested at least.

What do you mean about our characters having a "day job" at the bar?  Do they pretend to be bar employs as cover for their real work or something?  Are they a group/team or are they solo operators?

Sessha

Yes it's their day job at the bar and pretend to be bar employees and the group works as a team for missions.
Locked, cocked and ready to rock!

Daril

Does the bar have any "regular" employees as cover?  Been thinking of playing a character who started working there to help feed her addiction to fast cars and ended up getting recruited to the team to act as their driver.

Sessha

To answer your question Daril. Yes there is a regular group of employees that are employed there as well it's a bar. While it's a front of the PCs actions it is still a business and a business has to make money to stay open. :-)

Name:  Leonard Albert Forman
Age: 34
Nationality: Good Old Fashioned American
Background: He admired his parents when he was a child both of whom worked in the medical field so he knew for quite some time that he wanted to become a doctor. He carried his faith in his abilities and his desire to be a doctor with him all throughout his schooling and took to both medicine and science quite handily. Perhaps his interest in science is what  led to his many problems because he liked to understand things and then try re-arranging what he knew to attempt to create something new. Regardless of his hobbies he eventually made it through medical school and began to practice as a licensed Doctor. His first clinic was in LA but they didn't take kindly to some of his experimenting so he was told to either leave LA or have his license revoked. He took leave of the city and kept moving as similar problems occurred. Finally he moved to the carribean islands. One day his experimenting pissed off the local official and his license was revoked.

Without his License he found it difficult to do other work but he was lucky enough to find some work in a place called Southtown. At first he was employed down at the docks packing all kinds of illegal objects for the local Mafia groups but then he slowly got into mercenary work. Then one day he ran into Alexandra Mallory who allowed him to open an illegal clinic above her bar Angel's Parabellum where he now works as a day job while waiting to pick up Merc work from downstairs.

Personality: Leonard is odd to put it lightly but that doesn't stop him from getting his work done. He is kind and friendly when in the office but he's a jackass and sadist when on the battle field. when he isn't working to heal people or kill them he can found conducting chemical experiments or biological ones if the means present themselves.

Weapons: Smith&Weston 500 (magnum revolver 10 1/2 inch barrel), Winchester Model 21 double barreld shotgun, FN-FAL assault rifle, and also any odd chemical concoctions or electrodes he can get his hands on for some interesting results and finally his scalpels
Psycho Mantis: You must spend every day pretending to act like you're falsely letting on that you aren't not unbetraying someone you don't not purport to allegedly not work for but really do! How do you keep all this shit straight without having an aneurysm?

How long do I have until the game starts?  I did a fair bit of searching for images on Saturday, but still haven't found anything I'm completely satisfied with yet.  (These two (NSFW) are about the best I've found so far.)

Alternatively I was also considering a character with a cowgirl motif.  I was kind of wanting to play her as a big sister type though, and I don't know if we're going to have enough younger characters for that to work (that's another reason why I'm wondering how long it will be before we start -I want to know whether I have some time to wait and see what comes up before I decide which concept I'm going to go with).

Sessha

As far as the start times are concerned I'm basically waiting for all the characters to be put up. Then I'll create an OOC thread followed by a character thread.

As for the character concepts stick with the driver concept. There aren't enough characters who are of a young mentality to require a big sister type character.

Name: Frank "Dutch" Grey

Age: 24

Nationality: Undisclosed, presumed Anglo.

Backstory:  Frank doesn't like talking about his past; not that he talks much at all- when he was a kid, his house was hit by a serial arsonist, and Frank was, to be blunt, 'fucked up' by the whole thing; burns and smoke inhalation damaged his throat, so he can't really speak at all above a harsh whisper; combine that with his scars, and a very early onset of Male-Pattern Baldness, resulted in a freakish looking child who was badly bullied at school.

Personality: Dour and untalkative

Stupid browser problem ate my first attempt at this.

Name: Sandra Marshall
Age: 24
Nationality: American
Backstory: Sandra became involved with Angel's Parabellum for one reason -to feed her need for speed.  From underground racing it wasn't that big a leap to acting as a driver for a team of "professionals."  Since she was mechanically inclined and something of an adrenaline junkie, the chance to play with automatic weapons didn't hurt either.
Personality: Sandra is energetic, extroverted, and adventurous.  She is a risk taker and likes to try new things.

Weapons: PP-2000 Submachine Gun with Aimpoint sight, Beretta 92 Inox

Avalon29

Daril if you're looking for something compact my advice would be to look at PDWs. They're usually built small while still having good range and firepower. Something like the type 05, the Modern Sub Machine Carbine, Scar-L (the smaller PDW variant of the scar), or P90 might be what you're looking for. The other main options being submachine guns or a sawed-off shotgun.

Sessha

#20
Honestly just go with a handgun as it can be fired with one hand without having the gun jump all over the place from automatic fire. So go with something you think has enough ammo to do the job and what not. I mean possible a breach loaded shotgun with a sawed off barrel would be a good idea. Just drive up and point your gun out the window. Blam. Blam. People get in the car and drive away. Alternately there is something else that I was made aware of, a PP-2000 would be good if you deploy the folding stock. You tuck it into your shoulder and get something that equates to control on automatic fire.

I was actually already considering a PP-2000 equipped with an Aimpoint sight.  ;) I figured the Russians are probably one of the major suppliers of mil spec automatic weapons in the city, and the 2000 is relatively modern (if somewhat crude) and suitably compact.  Plus it can use readily available ammo.

Yes, she'll probably have a handgun, maybe even more than one.  I just need to figure out the model(s).  Actually I'd been considering having her work some of this stuff out as the game goes along.  If she's relatively new to the job it might make sense if she's still figuring out what she likes.

On a vaguely related note -I've been wondering if the team should tend towards "borrowing" vehicles (possibly even tending towards "on site" procurement) rather than consistently using the same wheels all the time.

Sessha

The groupo themselves will have their own vehicle to travel along in so don't worry too much about that Daril. As for your gun choices that's up to you. I only ask you be reasonable on them is all.
Locked, cocked and ready to rock!

Daril

Aw, so the Minigun and pair of double barreled M1911s are out?  :-*  (Seriously, I think you can trust me to show some restraint in that regard.)

My main thought with the cars is that maybe it would be a good idea for the team vary their wheels to avoid being too obvious/conspicuous.  That being said I'm not really entirely sure how they operate at this point.

Is there anything I need to address immediately to avoid me holding up the game?

pendarious

.......but being conspicuous is part of the fun especially when you are intentionally building a rep
