• This thread has been created as an interest check for the game Blood Circle.
• Blood Circle is a guided sandbox game that is based on The Secret Circle novels by LJ Smith and the subsequent television show.

Overview

The story takes place in modern day Louisiana where ten magical families reside. In 1692, sixteen families fled the witch trials of Salem, Massachusetts. The group split up, eight of them going West and the other eight heading South. These eight families settled in Louisiana and were eventually joined by a ninth and tenth family. They formed a Circle and have resided in the town of Covington, Louisiana since the beginning of the 18th century.

These few hundred years were far from peaceful but magic had always been practised and understood, until recently. On March 3rd, 1990 a tragedy occurred. A group of young adults, who had just recently formed their own circle, became embroiled in a conflict. The conflict took place on a boat that was docked on the Tchefuncte River and it somehow resulted in a fire, a fire that claimed the lives of quite a few members of the Circle. No one but those that survived truly knows what happened on that boat. The evidence points to a magical ritual gone wrong but the Elders have no idea about the context behind the ritual.

As a consequence of the boat fire, the Elders permanently stripped the remaining members of the Circle of their powers. They also bound the powers of the Circle members’ children and forbid them to ever divulge the secrets of what happened that fateful day. The current generation of witches have never experienced their powers and know absolutely nothing about their heritage but this will all change. A childhood friend, someone who had also lost a parent in the tragedy that occurred 20 odd years ago, has recently died. Sarah Bainbridge's death was sudden and shocking but it has brought the group together. Those that had left town returned for her funeral. Despite the end of Sarah’s life, it carries with it a new beginning.


Inhabitants of The World

Witch Hunters

For the most part humans have no idea that witches exist except for a select few that have trained their entire lives for the sole purpose of destroying witches. These individuals are known as Witch Hunters. Witch hunters belong to an ancient order of humans that have tasked themselves with wiping out all dark magic. Wherever witches reside, darkness follows. Some are willing to work with witches in order to wipe out this threat while others are not. They were mostly responsible for the witch trials of the 17th century. Despite their power, witch hunters outnumber witches, making them a viable threat. The crescent moon has always been a symbol of the witch hunters due to it having been a powerful symbol of conquest thousands of years ago. Crescent moons have been used as a warning by the witch hunters for thousands of years. The symbol is often burned upon the land of a witch, letting the witch in question know that they have been marked.

After the tragedy that occurred in 1990, the witches of Covington and the witch hunters signed a treaty. The most important condition of this treaty was that witches would cease to practise magic and that the current generation of witches remain ignorant of their heritage.


Demons

These are malevolent entities that are known to possess both humans and witches. Demons are commonly seen in the form of small black snakes or worms that enter their chosen vessel through any orifice available (ears, mouth, nose, etc.). In their own realm they are powerful but once summoned into our earthly realm, they are in a weakened state. Demons are constantly searching for a witch to possess, seeing as they are the most powerful earthly beings available.


The Covington Clans

• Blake: Of Nigerian origin. They are powerful and have always been leaders in the community due to being able trace their lineage back to the beginnings of witchcraft and light magic.  Taken
• Blackwell: Of Romanian origin. One of the first families to begin practising black magic. The family’s original surname was Balcoin but after facing persecution in their native Romania they fled to England and changed their surname to Blackwell. They eventually settled in the New World. They no longer practise black magic for fear of persecution.  Taken
• Nidaros: Of Spanish/Mexican origin. This family was not part of the original eight families that fled to Louisiana. They were already settled in the area and welcomed the arrival of the nine other families, eventually forming a circle with them. The current Head of the Council of Elders is from the Nidaros clan.  Taken

Nestled in the Deep South at the fork of the Bogue Falaya River and the Tchefuncte River, Covington is a town steeped in history. It is the parish seat of Saint Tammany Parish and is only a 50 minute drive away from the Big Easy. The population has steadily grown to 16,000 inhabitants but the town still retains its old school charm. It was spared the flooding of Hurricane Katrina due to its higher elevation but suffered some severe wind damage. Residents have since worked together to fully restore the areas that were damaged.


The Magic

Magic falls into two main categories: Light and Dark. The ten families have abolished the use of magic ever since the accident that occurred in 1990 but before that Light magic was practised by all witches that lived in Covington. Dark magic has always been outlawed and it’s use is taboo.

All magic stems from the six elements: fire, earth, metal, air, water, and blood. All witches have control over these elements but their ability to fully control their powers is limited unless they are able to join a Circle.

Each generation forms their own Circle. Until a witch is bound in a Circle, their magic is unpredictable and heavily tied to their emotions. This is extremely dangerous which is why Circles are formed. Witches are born with innate powers but they can also engage in practical forms of magic.

Innate Powers

A witch’s innate powers fall into eight categories.

Atmospheric



Atmokinesis: The ability to influence the weather. With this ability witches can create storms such as thunderstorms, hurricanes, monsoons and tornadoes. They can also change the temperature and weather patterns.


Water



Hydrokinesis: The ability to control and manipulate water. This is another innate ability that does not generally require a specific spell. Particularly powerful witches are even able to conjure rather than simply extracting it from an existing source.


Earth



Terrakinesis: The ability to control and manipulate solid rock and sediment formations, such as stone, brick, dirt, mud and basic rock. With this power, one could levitate and throw rocks, form solid structures out of rock and mud, cause landslides, avalanches and earthquakes.

Gaiakinesis/Chlorokinesis/Ecokinesis: The ability to manipulate plants. (i.e. animate and control plant life, rapidly speed up the growth of plants)


Electricity



Gravitokinesis: The ability to manipulate electric currents and produce lightning.

Metakinesis: The ability to manipulate metal and magnetic fields.


Air



Aerokinesis: The ability to manipulate and produce air and affect the flow, velocity, and chemical composition.


Fire



Pyrokinesis: The ability to create, absorb, and manipulate fire. With this ability witches can produce vast amounts of fire, both for an offensive attack and for defense (i.e. protective walls of fire) or for generating a light source (i.e. lighting a candle).

Thermokinesis: The ability to manipulate heat. Particularly powerful witches can even heat rock enough to create lava.


Movement



Telekinesis: The ability to move objects with the mind. This ability can be used move, lift, throw, push, pull, and manipulate objects, humans, animals, and virtually anything within the realm of physical molecular structure.


Ice



Cryokinesis: The ability to manipulate cold and ice. Users can create, shape, and manipulate ice.

Practical Magic

This magic is composed of spells and rituals that can be found in each witch’s Book of Shadows.

Book of Shadows



A Book of Shadows is a journal containing texts and instructions for magical rituals, spells, chants, potions and a wide range of magical information. This may be a sort of diary for the witch, where they collect their experiences, successes and failures, and also facts of particular importance. Books of Shadows become a mirror of the witch, a kind of map of his/her magical journey. These journals are handed down from generation to generation or from teacher to disciple. People who inherit the book, not only have a rich variety of magical information, but they can also learn from previous mistakes that witches encountered in their lifetime. From generation to generation every witch adds something personal to the Book. Some things are common and also shared in many of the journals, others are unique. Some witches keep their books away from others and conceal them in hiding places. Some books are simply filled with notes while others are richly decorated with drawings and dried herbs.


Spells & Rituals



One of the most obvious characteristics of witches, is their ability to cast spells; a "spell" being the word used to signify the means employed to carry out a magical action. A spell could consist of a ritual action, a set of words, a verse, or any combination of these. Although the majority of the spells are spoken in the native language of the witch, some spells require the use of other languages, such as Latin.


Sigils



A type of symbol used in magic as a signature for demons or other entities. It sometimes describes the goal of the user and the outcome of the spell it composes. Sigils can be used to bind a spell.


Elixirs



Also known as potions. They can have different effects and purposes. They are made from various herbs and spices and may require a Witch's blood. Some spells require an elixir to bind the spell.


Medallions



An ancient object that is mentioned in several Book of Shadows but whose origin is dubious in nature. No one living has ever seen one. With this object a witch can use it to absorb the magic of other witches and use the power for themselves. Due to the sinister nature of the object it could be that they were all destroyed which is why none have been found today. It goes without saying that the use of this magical object is forbidden as it falls under the category of dark magic.

Crystals



Crystals are powerful magical artifacts that are able to channel and contain magic. A crystal’s power can be used by any witch, even those whose powers have been bound. It’s powers are limited though, a crystal is only ever a temporary solution. The bigger the spell, the more of the crystal’s magic is depleted.

It is said that all crystals are simply smaller pieces of a much larger Crystal that belonged to the Blake family. To create more equality among the witches of Salem, the crystal was separated and dispersed among the sixteen families. After the families fled to their respective locations, they lost all contact. The crystals owned by the Covington families have gone ‘missing’. Many suspect that the Elders hid them, deeming them to be too powerful in the wrong hands. Most witches are unaware that if all sixteen crystals are united it would create a Crystal Skull. A crystal skull can increase a witch’s power tenfold and is would be extremely dangerous in the wrong hands.

• The GM’s word is law. Players in the game are expected to respect the GM's decisions although I will try my best to be a fair and just ruler.
• Characters can’t be killed without the consent of both the writer and the GM.
• I encourage players to post once a week but I am aware that life can get hectic. If you are having any issues keeping up please make the GM and your fellow player aware of this.
• Blood Circle shall be placed in the extreme section. If your post contains any extreme material please post a warning in the tag header and spoiler any particularly gruesome sections of the post.
• Sex scenes must be written out in the Private Thread.
• Face claims must be of real life models, actresses/actors, singers, and other celebrities. In accordance with E rules, all face claims must be over the age of 18.
• Tag avatars should be 150 x 200.
• Each player is allowed to have one character.

Frequently Asked Questions


What types of characters are permitted?

All sexes, races, religions, and sexual orientations are welcome. That being said I do ask the players to keep each family's origins in mind when creating their character.

What genre is the game and where will it be placed?

This game can be classified as urban fantasy or horror. It will be in the Extreme section due to heavy violence and possible non-con.

What is the setting?

The story takes place in an alternate universe. It is pretty much the same as modern day United States (specifically the state of Louisiana) except for the fact that witches, demons, and witch hunters exist. Although the witches’ hometown is listed as Covington, Louisiana, the story will be taking place in both Covington and New Orleans (they are only 50 minutes apart).

Do I need to have read the books or watched the show in order to play the game?

Absolutely not. Although the game is based in a world that was created by LJ Smith, this story deviates from the source material. All the information you need is what’s listed in the thread already.

What is the pacing of the game like?

This will be a guided sandbox game so people don’t necessarily have to rush with their posts. That being said the ideal posting speed would be once a week per player.

How many characters can I make?

There are 10 spots in this game and each player is allowed to have one character.

Do the characters know who and what they are?

No they do not. As far as the characters are concerned, they are human. All they know is that their families have lived in this town for generations and they all know each other but they don't know that they are witches.

What powers can my character have?

Each character can specialize in three types of innate magic (i.e. telekinesis, hydrokinesis, and aerokinesis). They can practise the other innate powers as well but only with their other Circle members. The three innate powers you choose for your characters is what they would be able to perform individually without the help of the Circle.

Character Guidelines

• Face claims must be of real life models, actresses/actors, singers, or other celebrities. In accordance with E rules, all face claims must be over the age of 18.
• Please keep the origins of each family in mind when creating your character.
• Each player is allowed to have one character.
• There is only one character allowed per family (10 families = 10 different characters).
• Characters must have lost at least one parent in the accident that occurred on March 3rd, 1990.
• All character sheets must be PMed to the GM for approval.
• While you are allowed to choose whichever three innate powers for your character that you'd like, please keep in mind that there should be some diversity among the group. Make sure to consult other people's character sheets and see what powers haven't been chosen yet.

Distinguishing Features: Kennedy has the date her mother passed away inked in black Roman Numerals on the inside of her left wrist. It is small and usually escapes notice unless someone is looking closely. She also has double ear piercings but only makes use of one. It would not surprise her if the second has closed from a long period of disuse. Her birthmark is nothing significant; it looks like a small patch of discoloration on her right thigh.

Kennedy is often found with a wide smile, one which could easily compete with someone who has won the jackpot lottery. To some people, she pretty much did upon inhaling her first intake of air as an infant. Despite losing her twin brother, she managed to keep a positive exterior rather than sink into permanent depression. Constant moves throughout her life required for her to become adaptable to her surroundings and different types of people. Her handsome face has sometimes lead to people underestimating her in the journalism arena but she had quickly proven to have a sharp tongue and ability to ask difficult questions others in her network shied away from.

History:

Born about three or four minutes after her older brother, Isaac the II, Kennedy always had a second opinion and someone at her side to experience the marvels of the world with. Despite being fraternal twins, their physical attributes resembled each other immensely to the point where they never needed to wonder how they would appear if born the opposite sex.

Her parents’ financial security, with her father working as a lawyer and her mother a successful financial consultant, assured Isaac and Kennedy were well-cared for in their early years. The first few years of their life were spent on the family’s property, where the two children played and made mud pies like any other child.

About a year before it was time for them to enroll into their first year of preschool did their mother reignite what their father hoped to be a dead argument. Their mother, Margaret Blake, was originally from the east coast of the United States, New York to be exact. She had met their father, Isaac, during his university years as he studied in her home state. A blind date set up by their mutual friend turned into a serious relationship and then eventually marriage after the years. During those years, they eventually relocated to Isaac’s home state of Louisiana despite her lack of enthusiasm for what she believed to be a slow pace of life and people who refused to progress into the here and now.

Eventually, Isaac and Kennedy were put on a plane and shipped away to live in New York City with their maternal grandmother. There, they were enrolled into the artsy Calhoun, where organic popsicles and visits from influential people around the world was the norm for the young student populace. During the short summers, the siblings were put back on the plane to spend the season with their parents. Although young and impressionable, Kennedy noticed how strained her parents appeared around each other. She did not know it then but the reason was directly related to her brother and her. Her father was not pleased with their mother’s persistence for them to receive their education in New York.

Both of them returned soon enough though. It happened sometime during her year in first grade. One second, her brother had been laughing and playing soccer with their friends in the park. In the next, he fell down and was suddenly gone.

Gone.

All of the autopsy reports did not shed any light on the situation. Instead, all they did was create more unanswered questions. Birthdays became constant reminders of who was not there to share them with her. As life settled down into some sense of normalcy again after the death of a child, their house once again became assaulted by coldness and despair. Kennedy was robbed of the presence of her mother.

Always, Kennedy has been ashamed to admit she never truly grieved for her mother’s disappearance from her life. It had taken a tremendous amount of to force tears from her eyes for the sake of appearances. In fact, it was only when she thought of her brother did she genuinely cry.

Again, somehow, life moved on despite some people’s preference for it to simply stop.

Kennedy adjusted easily enough to her new environment even though she found herself missing the fast pace of NYC. However, there was a lot to love and be discovered about Covington, a town rich with history and untold stories. People were more considerate and it was nice to have people remember her name when she walked into stores. Her newness and genuinely friendly demeanor allowed her the ability to make new friends quickly. One of which was a girl named Sarah. The two girls became inseparable, joined at the hip like how she had been with Isaac. A lot of her childhood photographs, from Disney vacations to joint birthday parties, had Sarah in them as well.
Again, life decided to change the layout of Kennedy’s life in high school.

Despite her repeated pleas to continue her education with her peers, her father enrolled her in the local private high school in New Orleans. The decision forced her to separate from the friends she had established since her return from NYC.

Kennedy adjusted and adapted, as she always managed to do, and excelled in her courses. Her teachers liked her well enough because she did not act like an idiot in her classes and also managed to contribute intelligent responses to classroom discussions. More people liked than disliked her. Distance caused a rift to develop between those she had graduated with from elementary school. Everyday phone calls became less common until they eventually petered out into not talking at all. 

A scandal, where a teacher was discovered to be having sexual relations with a student, propelled her father to transfer her in the middle of the school year to the local public high school. This time, Kennedy found it difficult to flounder in unexplored waters. The distance from her old peers had been easily ignored before but now it was thrusted right into her face. She found a place to belong when she joined the cheerleading team. It was pretty great since most of the time they were away from the school due to cheering for the football team at away games. Her most memorable moment from high school was when her father surprised her with a Porsche on her 16th birthday and spontaneous weekend trip to be pampered and treated like a queen for her girlfriends and herself in Atlanta. Like any girl in high school, she had first loves and crushes on unattainable boys but none of them became incredibly serious. Her father would not permit it.

Dreams of becoming a world class journalist propelled Kennedy to leave the humid weather of Louisiana to brave the frigid winters of Evanston, Illinois at Northwestern University. Needless to say, that dream was not realized. Despite busting her behind, she did not manage to get her dream job at one of the more recognized and popular networks. Instead, she ended up back in Covington. The only positive note was that she did not return alone. Instead, she brought her fiancé, Thomas, with her. They lived together for a time in her newly renovated condo as preparations for their lavish wedding was put into motion. Invitations were sent out to hundreds of people. However, a day before the ceremony, the wedding was canceled and Thomas moved back to his hometown. Never seen in Covington again. People never really knew the truth behind what happened but most people place the blame on Kennedy’s shoulders.

Kennedy worked as a field reporter, making her way from being given silly assignments to actually being tasked with seeking out verbal responses from important people in town. One of her favorites was ruffling the feathers of certain politicians. For a second time, she became engaged. This time, her choice of beau was native to her hometown. Her father wished for a large service befitting his only daughter but she refused adamantly. A small ceremony with a small handful of people would suffice. This time, the wedding was called off much earlier and not by Kennedy. Her would-be fiancé was discovered having relations with another woman.

Since then, her interest in men has been minute as she would rather focus on her career. Lately, she had been contemplating the pros and cons of adoption.

Visual Description: Xavier is not exactly classically handsome yet possesses a certain something that simply works for him. He's not particularly fussy about his appearance though he does aim to be clean and mostly presentable these days. He keeps himself lean and trim though more often or not he works out to relieve stress rather than for visual appeal. His look is very casual out of uniform.

Due to his upbringing and the stigma that follows him, Xavier gives the impression that he is a maverick who cares for little to nothing outside of his own pleasure. He was once a precocious and curious boy but when that wasn't well received he learned to hide his intelligence and genuine interests until he was nearly indistinguishable from your typical local "bad boy". He was always caught in the wrong spots, ignored authority, and tended to act with a force of will that was nigh untameable, seemingly with little care for the actual consequences of his actions. What most didn't/don't realize, or care to recognize, is that though the truth of him is difficult to parse from the image he projects it is there to be found nonetheless. The classic underachiever, Xavier possesses an agile and adaptive mind that likes to investigate the world around him but he can quickly become bored with the mundane and routine. He won't announce this obviously but he is a voracious reader and pays keen attention to those around him often wondering at the how and, perhaps most importantly, the why behind things. Xavier himself will tell you that he gives no fucks what happens to those around him but in reality he is incapable of turning his back completely, something that his successful military career exemplifies when the details are examined. Still, despite his quiet defense of others, he is not the type to defend himself. His pride simply won't let him and thus any sorts of explanations, justifications, and the like are almost never forthcoming, leaving people to believe as they will. And it has always been easiest to believe the worst of Xavier.

History: Xavier's very existence is something of a mark of shame. The story goes that his father, a well known blight on the town of Covington, seduced his beloved mother away from a happy home and knocked her up, leaving her family in turmoil. As penance for that transgression his mother died giving birth to him and left behind a number of individuals who hated Xavier for simply existing--her previous family which included her husband and a half brother and half sister, as well as his own father. Such a doomed start seemed to produce lingering ripples too as his father fell into the bottle and never seemed to drag himself fully back out before the accident in 1990 took his life.

After the death of his father, Xavier was given into the care of his grandfather and to be quite frank, the man was no better than his father had been. He wasn't an alcoholic but he was a harsh and mean son of a bitch who liked reminded his grandson of what his very birth had caused every chance he got. It was fortunate then that moving to his grandfather's house moved him onto the very same street as the love of his life: Sarah Bainbridge.

The first time he tried to talk to Sarah they got into a fight that left him more than a little bruised and the very next day he showed up with the plastic ring out of his Cracker Jacks and asked her to marry him. The answer was of course a disdainful no but Xavier was persistent. He asked everyday for two weeks straight until she finally told him she wouldn't marry him but she would take the ring if only he'd shut up. That was the beginning of their relationship--one which lasted despite the various forces that would try to tear them apart over the years. Well.. until that last.

Xavier had been a smart kid, maybe even too smart for his own good because his tendency to correct his teachers or point out errors often got him in more trouble. Eventually he learned to keep his mouth shut and once the monotony of school became too much of a drag he simply quit trying altogether. Test scores and the unwillingness of local educators to deal with him meant that he was passed from one grade to the next even when his grades were clearly not good enough. In high school he ditched more classes than he attended which made him ineligible to play sports. It was a shame as he was good at both football and rugby which he played for club teams outside of school and it was often remarked that it might have been his ticket at a legit chance to make something of himself and even go to college. Ultimately, with the events of his senior year it would have hardly mattered since Xavier did not even have the chance to graduate.

By his senior year, Xavier was one of those people whose reputation had developed a life of its own. His own rebellions were in truth largely mild but the various stories that circulated were outrageous. Yes, he got into fights but he was usually not the one to start it or else there was a very particular reason in which he sought out the altercation. Yes, he skipped class but he could usually be found somewhere quiet with a book or pen and paper. Yes, he frequently ignored authority figures but he was a sucker for sweet older women and could often be found lending a hand here and there when no one was looking. He drove too fast, jay walked, and partied like he might die any day, but he didn't rob people or steal or devour live animals. And he certainly didn't kill anyone.

Unfortunately for him, that last one no one would believe. Especially after he was arrested as a suspect in a murder. It was a simple case of being in the wrong spot at the wrong time but his past transgressions and perceived reputation made the prosecution determined. There was not enough evidence to pin the murder on him but they found a few loopholes that pinned him with enough lesser crimes to send him off to jail. The judge, oddly enough, took some pity on him though and gave him a chance. Xavier was given the option to enlist in the military for a term equal to or greater than that of the time he would serve in jail and deciding it was the lesser evil he agreed. He was held until he could be shipped off and never got a chance to say goodbye to his best friend Victor or to Sarah, let alone give her the real ring he'd saved up to buy with the cash he made helping out in the auto shop the past few years. He also never got to hear what it was she had needed to tell him.

Over the years Xavier did try to get in touch with Sarah. In the beginning he wrote her letters weekly and when that was no longer possible he still wrote her whenever he could. Yet, not once did she write him back. Not even to say not to send her anymore letters. Not until that very last time when he received an unfinished letter along with the news that Sarah had killed herself. Having already received an Honorable Discharge, Xavier did not hesitate to pack up the meager belongings he had with him where he'd been staying in Florida. It had been his intention to return home after finishing graduate school to really show the one person whose opinion had ever mattered to him that he had made something of himself but that chance had been stolen from him. Now he wanted to know why.

Personality: Vic is a playful and very self indulgent kind of guy. Confident and pretty content with his place in life, considering he can pretty much do what he loves for a living and party the rest of the time. Stability is not important to him, freedom definitely is. He has a welcoming and open demeanour, has no trouble talking to strangers and will flirt openly and happily. Despite being a sensual person at heart, he doesn't like random touching. As in, people hugging him without fun intentions or sitting really close to him so that his arm is all trapped. He's intelligent, but he didn't really make use of it until he pursued his interest in music production and went to university, where he fully applied himself and a new ambitious side of him awoke. Through the years he's proven to be rather unreliable in personal matters, and sceptical about other people's true intentions.  Side effects of bitterness that's rooted deeply in him since childhood.

History:

Victor was born on December 13th 1984 to Vivian and Marc Chamberlain. He was five years old when both of them died in a tragic accident involving several other people on a boat. He had no immediate family that could take him in so he was put in foster care where he bounced from one family to the next for ten years. The first family he stayed with did their best to keep him in contact with the people in his life, his parents' friends and their kids. It was enough to maintain the familiarity for when he was moved to another family who didn't care about these things, so from then on and throughout grade school and high school he kept in touch with some of the kids. Some more than others, as it goes. Victor was a reckless and rebellious kid, shaken by the loss of his parents and constantly being uprooted, and no one expected much from him in terms of further education (or even finishing high school for that matter). He got himself into trouble on weekly basis, his friends weren't exactly well behaving A+ students, and his attitude was a cocky I-don't-give-a-crap.

When he eventually knocked up a cheerleader at school at sixteen, his foster parents at the time (Pastor Tom and his wife Susan) gave up. They'd stuck with him through four years of wild antics, but Susan put her foot down at this last stunt and paperwork was started to place him with yet another family. Before it went through, an older 'sibling' from one of his earlier homes took him in instead. David was a 30 year old musician, living in New Orleans where he ran a small recording studio. Why he decided to step in and offer Victor a home was a question Victor never got a real answer to, but it was fantastic. It was nothing like living with the pastor's family, no curfew, no rules about bringing home 'friends'. It truly was like living with an older chill brother. He finished high school in Covington, driven each morning by David until he got a license and scraped together for a car by working at a burger joint down the street. It was a shitty car, but it got him from A to B. (The cheerleader babymomma was kicked off the cheerleader team and moved out of town soon after that. Later on when Victor turned eighteen he started paying child support, but that was about the only connection between him and the child or the girl.)

But first thing first. During his last year and a half of high school, Victor discovered the recording studio. David let him tag along downstairs, watch while he worked and eventually started teaching him when the interest was clearly there. Victor experienced a passion for something for the first time in his life and set out to study audio engineering. This meant he had to step up his game in school to get into the university he wanted. Money was not an issue, or wouldn't be, since he would gain access to what he inherited from his parents when he turned eighteen. It was a big turnaround for the young man who surprised most of his teachers by actually showing up for classes and staying (mostly) out of trouble. Alongside all that he kept accompanying David in the studio, and this singular focus paid off.

Long story short, he got into the Uni and earned his degree, started working with David but soon moved into his own direction. He's now a freelance, lives in New Orleans and does work for TV networks, radio, local music and event venues, whatever really, alongside occasionally working on album or single recordings with musicians. His name's gotten around, and he's developed a very good rep that earns him a nice and fat paycheck. Nothing out of this world, but enough to easily afford a nice apartment, some pro bono pet projects, and sending money in addition to child support for his three girls. Oh I hadn't mentioned yet, he got two girls pregnant after that cheerleader. An inspiring songwriter when he was eighteen, and a law firm secretary on a holiday when he was 26. Neither live in New Orleans or Covington, and Victor has no relationship outside of child support, birthday gifts and Christmas gifts.

Learning of Sarah's death was a shock, a kick in the gut and a strong reminder of his past. A past he'd like to think himself moved from by now, since he no longer ran about in aimless search of mischief. He had a good life, at long last. He had security and confidence in not only himself (because that was always present) but in his immediate surroundings. His work, his clients. Images of times of more turmoil crowded his mind from the moment he got the news. He'd been close with the girl back in high school. Her and Xav. When Xav was sent off to the military it was just Vic and Sarah, and then eventually he lost contact. Things had happened that contributed to the silence, sure, but now he wondered why he hadn't reached out in the last few years. One thing he was certain of. He was going home to attend her funeral.
