Welcome to the War for Reality

Remember the stories where the ghosts or the monster were real only if you believed in them? This is not those stories. This is a tale about a monster that is real if you don’t believe, and even more real if you do. Yet to destroy it, you must know it’s there.

The Truth is a being unknown, which is destroying both the physical world and reality itself in a worse way than any mage, vampire, werewolf, promethean, demon, geist or other supernatural creature has ever managed. An alliance of powerful supernaturals fights The Truth while keeping it a secret from their brethren and from the mortal population. Because the more sentient beings who know it’s real, the more real it becomes.

Creatures from differing supernatural backgrounds must balance the fight, the secret, and their dealings with one another. All three tasks are difficult enough on their own. Together they make for some high drama and explosive action.

Welcome to the New World of Darkness: The Accord, a game where you are one of these creatures, fighting the strange and twisted offspring of The Truth, the monsters that slip into reality from that other, unknown realm.

Compared to this, to cheat death with a giest or an embrace seems natural, to transform from human into panther seems workaday, and to claim descendance from Lucifer seems inconsequential.

It’s a game with high local storyteller discretion, impressive characters, and RP boosted by the interactions between disparate supernatural races desperate to get along.

So choose your character, write your background and join your friends in The Accord.

The Truth is waiting.

Welcome to the New World of Darkness Combined Venue known as The Accord.

The darkness beyond our reality does not simply wait to be released. Rather, its tentacles and influence reach into our world, corrupting and destroying. If not for the efforts of a small number of chosen denizens, The Truth would soon devour our world entirely. To some, these supernatural beings are heroes. Others know a starker truth--good, evil, in between, all these denizens have in common is the fight against the darkness and the dread secret they must keep. For the Enemy’s power over our world will grow with every individual who learns The Truth.

The Council first formed prior to the 1100s as an advisory system for managing conflicts between various groups of supernaturals. Over the ages, its numbers and influence waned as the supernatural groups in question began to resent Council interference into their affairs. Recently however, the Council was revitalized and re-armed to fight a new threat--a threat that is beyond any one group’s power to defeat. Something has bored a hole into our reality, silently threading its corruption into the deep places of power in our world. This insidious enemy-- “the Truth” --
is bent on devouring our dimension entirely. Only those who have come into contact with agents of The Truth are offered a chance to join to Accord, to fight to save reality itself.

Chronicle Structure:

You will be playing a member of the local Accord group in your city, known as a Cell. Each Cell does its best to fight the agents of The Truth. Some fight by killing the monstrous Abominations that The Truth sends into our reality. Others track down and destroy supernaturals who have become Corrupted to serve The Truth. Still others locate, infiltrate, and disband cults of normal humans who worship The Truth. Some Cells spend time and resources tracking down powerful Corrupted Artifacts whose very existence tears at the fabric of reality.
Saving reality is hard work, and there is never a shortage of things to do.

As if all that wasn’t enough to deal with, tensions run high between the different types of supernaturals in each Cell. A werewolf might have trouble accepting the presence of a vampire who she sees as an affront to nature. A changeling might have a mind and manner so alien that he constantly sparks conflict. Or there may be a human hunter who sees all these supernaturals as monsters to be destroyed, and barely keeps his mind on the real enemy--the Truth.

What you will be facing:

The Truth has invaded our reality in many ways. Here are some of the things your PC will need to deal with as an agent of the Accord:

Believers: Anyone who accepts that The Truth is a real thing and exists is considered a Believer. Note that they don’t have to worship The Truth or serve it or even be correct in what they think it is. The fact that they know of it and that it is truly real is enough. All Accord agents are Believers. Any Believer who dies has their soul devoured by The Truth. If they are not a Servant, then the RQ will increase.

Servants: Believers who know what The Truth is and have accepted The Truth as their Master. Once a Believer does this, they are forever connected to and controlled by The Truth. If they die, the RQ usually goes down. Any PC who becomes a Servant immediately turns into an NPC controlled by the VST.

The Church of Ultimate Truth: This is an official, highly organized and well-funded religion that is fully recognized in the United States. They put forward The Truth as an abstract source of all things good. Most of these people are like typical, everyday members of a religion. They just happen to be tied to The Truth. Most would be horrified if they knew what they were really worshiping. The vast majority of them are Believers, but not Servants.

Truth Cults: Usually lead by a charismatic Corrupted ex-member of the Church of Ultimate Truth, these groups of Servants actively seek to increase the RQ so The Truth will manifest more strongly in the area. They usually have a Corrupted Artifact, which bestows power (Corruptions) on them.

Corrupted Supernaturals: These are Servants who have a Template. Corrupted versions of everything exist from Vampires to Werewolves. Where those fighting against The Truth are weakened by Mutations, those who have accepted The Truth as their master are instead made strong. As far as anyone has been able to ascertain, Corruption is permanent.

Corrupted Artifacts: These are normal physical items that have become imbued with the Unreality power of The Truth. They appear spontaneously in an area where the RQ is too high. Those who Serve The Truth are called to acquire these Artifacts, and they usually become the centerpiece of a Cult. Often, the physical embodiment of the Artifact colors the type of worship the Cultists do. For example, a human skull might attract a necromancy-focused cult. Corrupted Artifacts grow in power over time. For more information, see the Guide to Corruptions.

Tear: This is a rip in the fabric of our reality. When a Corrupted Artifact becomes powerful enough, it will implode. The resulting hole in our reality leads directly out to The Truth. Usually, the first effect after a Tear forms is that an Abomination is pushed into our world.

Abominations: These creatures come from outside our reality. How they are created is a mystery. Are they remnants of previously devoured realities? Are they chunks of The Truth itself? No one is sure. Of three things you can be certain: Abominations are very dangerous, very powerful, and extremely hard to kill.

Dear Diary
'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;

When I was a little girl, my father use to always read me this story before bed. But not this year. No this year was quite different. I'm not sure how to even start, but I guess this all started back in October when I first encountered the Horsemen. Then came the news reports, and my own research that I was trying to do. Last but not less the strange email we got from Boulders.

The fact that I had everything laid out before me, and I still could not see how the puzzle fit together still kind of throws me off. Or maybe it is the realization that has been slapping me in the face that the other cell members -who we need to Rely on- didn't seem to view this threat the same way I did. In the beginning they ether didn't seem to care at all or they had already lost hope in a way. I'm not sure, I guess I was just hoping back in the beginning I would be able to  work with them the same way I work with people at my job or something like that. I'm starting to see that is not the case.

The Vampires think that they will out live anything that the Truth will throw at them.

The Changing Breeds at times are two stubborn to think before the leap....to see reason before action. And yes I'm talking about my own Sister. CJ seems to have his head together and I don't know about this new girl yet. But I'm sure I have flaws as well that they others see.

The Mages....I don't know what to think about the mages. They seems to be the only ones to have their shit together besides the older members of the Cell.

The Changelings are just odd and so are the Morals.

That hacker...she is so...I don't even know the word, but it's hard to think while she is yelling and jumping around like a child playing a video game. Useful, yes, but my head is still pounding.

The Ghost Boy seems nice enough.

I'm just glad the leaders of the Cell are there to keep us all in line.

Anyways I'm getting way off track. Last night:

The Police station was attacked by one of the Horsemen: Chaos. He did his best to get the police to wound him, his blood making some kind of ritual circle. Then he tried to kill the Horse of War and brake the seal that could be found there. The hacker the able to shut down the cameras for a while, and after some fighting I was able to get the Police to leave. We stopped him from killing the Horse and it's not safe at the Citadel.

I learned from Frost that his team went threw something like what we did.

The next seal I went to was at the airport, which was a rush in itself. I remember racing there after Frost spotted two aircraft about to crash into one another. We where able to turn the power back on and radio the aircraft to safety....after that I don't remember anything.

Needless to say I learned a lot about the local history last night. I'll write all that down later. But I will finish with saying: The Spirit of Christmas has been almost reborn in me last night. That and a good deed and a little Hope go a long way.

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight—
“Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!”

To Do List (Resolve+1)
1. I told Vincent and Frost I would go see Officer Rick Jones at OLOL and after last night the idea doesn't seem like a burden anymore. Vincent told me he is a Devout Christian so I'm going to stop off somewhere and pick him up a Christmas gift, maybe something from a local Christian Store. I know I need to ask him questions about CUT and get him to deface them, but building his faith and a friendship could not hurt. After all, this is the season. Also Zeke, wants to come with me.

I would also like to talk to Murdoch about this. Seems that CUT is trying to clam his Christmas Miracle as their own. I remember Murdoch taking me and SteelSoul to a priest to get some healing done after the first Horsemen attack back in Oct. Maybe he can talk to the same Priest about going make a few visits to Officer Rick Jones, to maybe keep his faith up. We have to keep his faith up.

The Cell
Lafayette, LA

Lafayette, the heartbeat of Acadiana, a city rich in culture surrounded by the swamp, but the swamp and it's dark secrets never left. For all it's culture and heritage a seedy underbelly hides just below the surface. Political corruption, crime, and superstition run through the city and surroundings like blood in the veins, but not all superstition is myth.

Since the first days, legends of the Loup Garou stalking the swamps have been told in homes, not as myth, but fact. Vampires have pulled the strings of mortal society, men make deals with demons in places both high and low, and voodoo finds it's way into the lives of the unknowing populace. But it isn't the stuff of legend that now preys on man, something from a darker place has forced it's way in and it threatens to devour all of reality.

It calls itself The Truth, but this truth is something that can not be. Its servants work in secret, from the mad cultist slitting throats in the swamp, to your next door neighbor. They are everywhere, their work pervades our own, and worst of all, they are growing. Quietly converting the world, they corrupt it on every level, and because you know, your death will only fuel its cause making its power grow.

Their works must be undone, their power destroyed, and no one must know, for each being whose eyes are opened to The Truth, it gets stronger.

Now we know why Man has always feared to tread in darkness, but where man fears to go, the Hound hunts.

I'm highly interested in this. Lot of options to play around with-oh, and I hope I'm not stomping on your toes by posting here! I like the concept a lot, so I'll see what I can do. Here's hoping for lots of interest!

Excellent! I already have a few ideas of who to play, although my decision will probably be most likely based on "who am I most comfortable with dying?" That being said, are you at all familiar with the fan-made splat Princess The Hopeful? It wasn't listed on either the "allowed" or "not-allowed" lists, so I thought I'd ask. If you need a link to the book I can send it to you.

1- What do you say about female playing male characters?
2- I am thinking of going Geist or Werewolf would that be okay with you?

Appearance

Standing at about 5'3", with very stricking amber eyes and short, dark red hair, she is not really one to stand out. She tends to dress rather casual, though nice. On her left ear is a black metal ear ring with a chain leading to a cuff on the upper ear, and another that hangs to her shoulder with two feathers. Those that are close to her know that she has a Kitsune Tattoo on her left shoulder.

Personality

Sorcha dose her best to think before speaking, and making sure to pick her words wisely. Though intelligent, she tends to not really "get" the politics that she often sees happening between other supernaturals. Maybe that's because she is not one for politics. She is open to work with just about anyone, and dose her best to be friendly; although she seems to treat everyone the same wither they are friend, family or otherwise. Slow to anger, but once she is it's best to let it all blow over before confronting her once again.

Timeline

Sorcha is a Red Fox (Scandinavian red fox V. v. vulpes), her shifter blood line can be traced back threw her Father's side of the family. Her father's family in turn can be traced back to Scandinavia and the northern and middle districts of the European part of the former Soviet Union. Oddly enough some people still consider her Haritage to be that of Japanese Bloodlines which she finds amusing.

Oct 31, 1989 - Sorcha is born in Baton Rouge, LA.
Jan 10, 1990 - Sorcha's Father gets full custody of her and moves to Houston, TX.
        June 17, 1994 - Sorcha's Father Marries
        March 19, 1995 - Sorcha's 1st Half Brother is born.
        September 29, 1999 - Sorcha's 2nd Half Brother is born
May 2007 - Sorcha graduates High School and is accepted into the "University of Houston."
September 2007 - Sorcha shifts for the first time.
December 2009 - Sorcha meets Snark for the first time.
December 2012 - Sorcha gets her college degree in criminal justice (Bachelors)
Jan 2014- Sorcha Moves to Lafayette, LA

Accord is my favorite MES venue, and I'm quite sad there isn't a local game within travel distance for actual live play. But I can settle for playing it in PbP, I think.

Is it same to assume you are using NWoD 1.0, without the God-Machine Chronicles update? 100 XP would be kind of insane otherwise.

Yeah. God-Machine is NWoD 2.0, I wanted to clarify if you were using NWoD 1.0 plus the various splats, or 2.0 baseline with the 1.0 splats.

No, that's Demon: The Descent. Its lore is heavily tied to the new God-Machine setting, but the actual title of the 2.0 core book is NWoD: The God-Machine Chronicles. Hence my confusion - there are a bunch of small but significant changes, including how XP is earned/spent.

EDIT: Regardless, I'm looking at one of the Purified - it was my character back when I still had hope of finding a live local venue, and I still want to realize the concept. Also, it looks like your sample NPC must have been built using a 1.0 chassis, so I've answered my own question with a bit more thought.

Will work on the appearance and background overnight, but he's a 17th century German alchemist who was searching for the philosopher's stone and found the elixir of immortality instead. He encountered an Abomination in the trenches of the first World War in 1916, was recruited into the Council shortly afterwards, and has been fighting the Truth off and on ever since.

Your character sheet looks good but you need to work on your history. The game is taking place in 2015 Lafayette LA how and why is your character there. Also, you would not be on the Council because they are not Player Characters.

So you will be sticking to the MES-official timeline then, where no characters were members of the organization before 1999? If so, that is definitely something you'd want to add to the opening post - a lot of the Useful Notes documents are club-specific stuff, so it'll help the people who aren't familiar with it to know which ones they can ignore entirely (like the CCD, the NSS, the Research system, the mailing list stuff...) and which ones they'll care about (metaplot timeline, Mutations, popular template starting information).

I'm very much interested! I really appreciate the amount of work you put into trying to consolidate the different splats too -- That google docs is clear and concise, which I appreciate!

Can I ask what the thought process is behind using the LARP draw rules instead of normal table-top dice mechanics...? Hell, when I ran a NWoD LARP we didn't even use the LARP Draw rules... We came up with a system of drawing two cards and reference a chart to create the same statistical spread that rolling dice uses.

Are you also using the rolling a 1 = Auto fail? And 10s still explode?
Like what you see? I am currently looking for new plots!

Detailed List of O/Os and Plot Seeds

All of my image links were previously photobucket and broken -- I'm fixing them as I use the avatars again, or for current games. Please let me know if there is something that needs updating!

Those are are all the Mind's Eye Rules so you would have to ask them lol

And yes 1 is auto fail and 10 you roll again.

Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear --

The concept of the Draw system was only because rolling dice isn't conducive to a LARP; it was the means to an end. It breaks the moment to find a flat surface and roll dice and squint over them, since that flat surface is most likely waist height.

So my question is: Is there any reason you're not just using everything identical to the Mind's Eyes Rules -- except allow for rolling dice since we don't have that positioning issue? This isn't supposed to be a criticism or anything -- it's an honest suggestion! I think the setting is a neat idea, and I admit, I haven't read all the linked supplements, so I don't know how much content there is linked to the Mind's Eyes Rules -- but how much would you lose taking the setting/concepts, but using the regular tabletop rules?

I was going to post my opinions on the Draw system, and why I think it's poorly designed -- but I didn't think this was the place for it. It's not my intent to create any disinterest in the game, or create a opinionated argument that is off the topic of your post!

Yes, it's because the pull method is easier to do instead of having people roll up to 35+ d10s.

As for not following all of the Mind's Eye rules, everything I'm using for the RP WAS pulled from the Documents Mind Eye uses to run accord. Everything I have posted was copied and pasted from the Accord Docs that Mind's Eye put in place so players and STs can use use it to start up new chapters. The only thing I'm not doing it making this an Office Chapter (because it would end with a lot of paper work on my end and a 20$ fee for everyone that wants to be an official Mind's Eye member) which means we will not be involved in national plot.
