Indeed! It's been a while! I wonder what happened to him...

In any case, it seems you're correct. I just downloaded the free update (I was a paid backer shouldn't be using the same version as you peasant *grumblegrumble*) and it looks like they did change it. Carry on then!

Errybody else, note that the rules have been updated so check carefully to make sure there are no differences between the CompCon and the rulebook :-)

Men in general judge more by the sense of sight than by that of touch, because everyone can see but few can test by feeling. Everyone sees what you seem to be, few know what you really are; and those few do not dare take a stand against the general opinion. Therefore it is unnecessary to have all the qualities I have enumerated, but it is very necessary to appear to have them. And I shall dare to say this also, that to have them and always observe them is injurious, and that to appear to have them is useful; to appear merciful, faithful, humane, religious, upright, and be so, but with a mind so framed that should you require not to be so, you may be able and know how to change to the opposite.

Talent Changes
Total change: Infiltrator
Mechanical change: Siege Specialist, Stormbending
Wording changes: Juggernaut, Leader

Those are the other changes I have seen so far. I haven't gone looking through the mechs though

Vergil Tanner

I'll go through it bit by bit when I get home from work this afternoon and try to compile a mechanical change log. :-)

A question: It's not obvious what kind of equipment we should have that's *totally* sub-Mech Combat scale. For example, if someone wants a conventional pistol (useless for attacking mecha or even pilot suits) is that just represented by them rolling whatever trigger is appropriate?

== Personnel File ==

Name: Domino Khan
Callsign: Noise
Aliases: "Doctor" Domino

Age: Subjective 65, Objective mid-hundreds, biologically about 30 due to expensive meds. He's mostly been a Cosmopolitan.
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Hetero.

Background: Celebrity

Appearance: Dresses too well for most situations. Conscientiously good hygiene, but sometimes a little hung-over.

Basic History: Domino was a musician on the very edge of being completely washed up. He'd drifted further and further out from the core worlds as his career faded, and as his tastes got more jaded. There's a lot more kinds of fun you can have once you're in a world less under Union's thumb. The flipside of that is that the further out you go, the fewer people can afford to pay much for live music. Well, sometimes a little stash of something illicit can help balance the books, when you're in enough of a backwater that you have to worry about money. See, that's the central paradox - the more freedom you get, the more you have to worry about taking care of yourself. Domino, stage name Doctor Domino, had been wandering on the fringe for too long. His body was still healthy thanks to futuristic medicine, but he was getting tired. He needed a change.

He was playing a show on a colony, in a community verging on native planetary wilderness, when it was attacked by...some kind of bug-monster. He used the (civilian grade) cybernetic control units that he used to operate his instruments, speakers, and roadie-drones, pushed everything past the specifications, and managed to drive them back. Killed a few. Minimal human casualties. He also suffered significant neurological damage. However, the fact that he did it at all showed he had a savant-level aptitude for direct control of combat hardware, a knack vastly more valuable than his fading career as a tunesmith. He was rehabilitated in return for entering service as a mech pilot, despite his lack of formal military background. [Maybe someone in the command structure of our mercenary group happened to be a fan of one of his albums, and his concierge flagged the article about a has-been rock star who hospitalized himself trying to fight giant spiders with a pack of controlled subalterns?]

Domino Khan has managed to translate his pre-existing skills somehow into mech piloting ability, and particularly his neurology perceives mech-assisted hacking through some kind of musical metaphor that lets him play enemy computer hardware like a recalcitrant guitar. But he's still not exactly a soldier if you take him out of a power suit. He's not particularly comfortable with fighting individual opponents, and the strictures of formal command structures rub him the wrong way. He's used to cruising into town, disappearing into some bars, shooting pool, and trying to convince people he deserves groupies. He struggles with the concept of uniforms or military discipline, so it's probably for the best he's in an elite mercenary unit rather than being a cadet in some kind of planetary defense force.

But he likes the idea of being the big hero. Saving the town. Winning the praise and adulation of the people. All that stuff sounds pretty good to him.

You still have to have the proper equipment equipped. Eg, your character can't use a pistol because it isn't listed on his pilot equipment list. Past that, pilot play is narratively focused.

"I want to knock him the fuck out for spilling my drink."
"Roll Apply Fists to Faces"
"I got a 12"
"*describes what happens in response to your action*"

That looks good and accurate so far! You'll need to plug it into the CS Template and sort out the Mech, obviously, but from what I can tell what you have so far is perfectly accurate :D

Thinking about swapping out the Jump Jets for COMP/CON and bumping the personal armor up to Assault to better embrace those Titanfall roots a bit.

Thanks. I've read the backer release now, and you're clearly correct.

I think in one of the alpha or beta versions, hardsuit-scale weapons weren't usable by pilots, but it looks like in the release version they're the same. So! Problem solved.

Huh, I don't remember that. But then, I didn't look at the rules until a few months ago, so *shrug* xD

I have been kinda busy but I have a char done in Compcon, I just need to port it over to how you want to have it written up in here and give them a backstory. I hope things get better for you, TheLaugingOne.

Vergil Tanner

Oooh, interesting! What kinda build are you thinking for them? Are they a Striker, a tank, a Dodgetank, DPS, Long Range Artillery, Support, etc etc? :D

I suppose when I say I have 'A build' I have two in mind. Build A is just going with a Drake to be as heavy in combat and immovable as possible. I also have a build that plans to go with Tortuga instead - being a bit more mobile, and also focusing a little more in potential hacking and tech attacks in addition to setting up overwatche retaliation. Might also use Heavy Gunner to impair and eventually immobilize enemies at a distance, too.

...I really like lancer character building.

Vergil Tanner

Oooh! Well, there's no reason you can't be all three, considering how easy it is to change loadouts between missions :P

And yeah, character building using Compcon is fun. I already have like...six different builds that I might be using for NPC's. I already have a future antagonist planned out, and I have your Training Officers build all worked out, too. :P

Both will have a potentially different set of talents and licences so we'll see! Either way I have a background in my head, just need to flesh it out.... And find good artwork for the character.
