Some reactions to yesterday's women protests in Poland:

1. Our Minister of Foreign Affairs continued being nasty, calling the protests "marginal" (even thought there were ten of thousands women protesting), as well as a "joke". Having heard that, even the Prime Minister decided to have a disciplinary talk to him... or so she claims.

2. As I mentioned earlier, the Polish Catholic Church condemned the protests. One of our archbishops, when in interviewed in TV, said that the women who took part in the protest were "afraid of life". He also said he wanted to tell them that "life is beautiful". When asked about pregnancies caused by rapes, he said that "there aren't that many of such cases", because (apparently) the rape-related stress makes it difficult for women to conceive. *headdesk*

3. One of our better-known Catholic publicists, in the course of the TV show he runs in the state TV, criticised one well-known female TV personality who supported the protests. "Criticised" isn't really a good word here - he actually compared her looks to that of a cow or a pig (because the woman is question is obese).

Aaaaargh! :(

holy crap... did you take all of texas's crazy...
I seriously think the new polish government is dipping into texas's private stash of far right crazy. Might be why they're suffering so many setbacks for "tradtional values" in the heart of red-country.

Also that bishop must be reading the same thing a little known texan state senator was, because two years ago he proclaimed the same thing. that stress hormones make it impossible for conception to occur... says the far right think tank on "family values"...he paid to give him a reason...to oppose abortion...
Prudence, justice, temperance, courage, faith, hope, love...
debate any other aspect of my faith these are the heavenly virtues. this flawed mortal is going to try to adhere to them.

The thing that worries me is that originally this all started with one man in a clown suit trying to lure kids away from a school bus stop...that guy is still out there walking free.

It's funny I read "*facedesking* as "*face desk king*" which incidentally remains applicable. [Insert success kid meme here]

In all seriousness however, Utah is predominantly Mormon and Provo has a fairly large Mormon population as well. Given the characteristics of Mormon doctrine it's not the least bit surprising to me at all.

CITY ON LOCKDOWN ‘Terror attack’ in Brussels as two cops are stabbed and train station evacuated over bomb scare
Sigh... I was actually around in August when a crazy (?) person started stabbing people in a bus, in my relative's neighbourhood of Uccle. Thankfully didn't witness anything.

Tyson Fury openly admits to suicide thoughts and being knee deep in manic depression and cocaine abuse in an interview in Rolling Stone, an interview that's apparently beyond candid. (Not linking due to the troubling nature of these issues). "I've done lots of coke, who hasn't? -- I sometimes wish somebody would just kill me before I do it myself --- I don't know if I'm going to see the year out."

Some good news for a change: it seems that PiS got scared by the Monday's protests. And, in an express move, they voted the bill out:

Meanwhile, thousands of Aghan translators are caught in bureaucratic red tape trying to immigrate legally despite being at risk of assassination every day they stay in the Middle East.

Hmm I never actually checked but I wonder if some of those people are at risk due to WikiLeaks putting out so many documents. I remember hearing that that was one of the fears they had when all the controversy first started.

I don't know how true it is, but in one documentary someone claimed Assage was very callous about the possibility of such an occurrence. He didn't want any of the published document redacted, not even names of translates and other intel assets, rationalizing that they deserved it for working with governments. Hard to know what to make of these claims, since there is definity political motions to discredit Assage, but its certainly a possibility.

Congratulations. Was worried that your government was gonna go full Todd Aiken.

Well, it's not impossible that they will try changing the laws again. They only kicked out the uber-radical project prepared by the pro-life organisations. Now, PiS suggests that they might write their own law... which *will* tighten the already-stringent regulations. So it's not over yet...

Ow...my broken heart.....

Hopefully they get charged with Attempted Murder, and get the full punishment. It doesn't matter if they are children, they are old enough to know what Death is and what Murder is.

It doesn't look good for the kid. They may end up getting the premeditated murder treatment.
