I'm a big fan of noir scenes, so I think I'd enjoy A Portrait of Darkness, though I would be satisfied with whatever we ended up with depending on how comfortable other players were with it.

And as long as we could find/grab a wand of CLW or infernal healing or something similar, I think we could be okay even without an official healer :-)

I like the idea of the two groups rarely ever interacting, but sometimes circumstances forcing them together. Do they become rivals? Assist each other? Etc. Could be awesome.

Elven Sex Goddess

PC Description:  Wahida Samura human bard,  a bard of the dervish.  A requiem of silk and steel in a swirling dance of death.   A whirlwind of sensual delight.   Her prior life a haze which only fragments seep through,  a former school teacher.   Whose most daring provocative thoughts were through the fantasy romance novels she would read.

Game Type:System

Featured Nemesis: Other blade singers,  blade dancers,  duelists, dervishes and swashbucklers.   Only one dance and song of the blade can be the best.  To hone the steel of a dervish, it must be sharpen against the sands of chance.   Less the waters of entropy dull ones dance.

Favourite Companions:  No matter how skilled Wahida becomes in her art of the dervish.    Her mindset is always to be a faithful follower.    Perhaps a hold over to her prior life,  a shyness that gives her a submissive aura.   So those that are charismatic, bold the hero from many of a romance novel.   Is what she will gravitate towards.  Always the faithful side kick to the leader.    Especially if that leader is a strong charismatic male.

Sexual Themes:  Heterosexual,  she herself is a hopeless romantic.   Through in a dark world she could quite easily become someones sexual toy.    (As for this character, I am envisioning her not into she males or other women.  Nor into any of the heavy vore and gore.)

assleigh

I'll vote for Portrait of Darkness too, as I figure part of the 'fun' of an evil world is the wickedness. It makes it feel different then a 'good' game... The difference in say the Riddick movies from lord of the rings.

@ Elven Sex Goddess: Looks great!  And a big welcome too!

I think we just have some characters left from from other players, but in general, everyone can begin working on character sheets for submission.  Just remember, two traits per character, or three if they take a flaw in addition.  Keep the following in mind when creating characters:

  • Characters have grown up in the small walled village of Loam's Hollow, and have not left far from its walls all their life.  The village has a population of approximately 240 people of many races and ethnicities.  Like many settlements here, Loam's Hollow is a frontier town, and it's primary existence is lumber and prospecting for gold in the river that flows through the town.  There is also a sizeable elven enclave just near the time who assist and trade (approx 120 population).  In the last 10 years there has been no less than 38 full-scale goblin and hob-goblin raids, 7 of which actually broke through the walls.
  • The town is administered by five its Councillors, who mostly look out for themselves first.  There is a contingent of about 40 soldiers and sorcerers who form the core of the militia.  Ideally, they are responsible for the town's safety, but everyone knows they look out for the interests of the town of Sand Fort (the largest and pre-eminent settlement on the isle), where they are based from.
  • Remember that parents tend to see their offspring as assets and heirs first before anything else.
  • As of puberty, all PCs are able to sense the presence of each other.  This strange sense allows them to feel the presence of translocated people like themselves out to a range of a mile, and pin-point within 50 meters.  This ablity only allows the senseing of presence and nothing else, and seems to be unique to the PCs, feeling like a strange ephemeral breeze that blows from the direction of the others with a strange droning buzz.  Apart from PCs, no one else can feel or hear these effects.
  • Approximate 6 years before current time, the village sees the arrival of an elderly priestess of the Silver Flame who uncannily finds all PCs.  She was also the person who was supposed to meet and tutor the PCs when they first came to the world, but things seem to have gone awry and it has been 30 years since the time they were first summoned to Allukashia (hence characters should be within 16 - 30 years of age).  This priestess, Marryn, provides the only bastion of warmth and real human affection PCs will know of in the village.  She is shocked how things turned out, but takes her role to guide the PCs as a serious duty.

I believe a more detailed OOC shall soon be started, but this will do for now.  Happy character creation!

Muse

PC Description: Oramar: Male Half Giant Cleric of the Silver Flame.  Oramar teeters between lawful neutral and lawful good.  As a cleric of the Silver Flame he 'courts the argent shieldmaiden'--striving to please and emulate the knightly aspects of the triune goddess.

Game Type: System

Featured Nemesis: Dragons and drow both sound like a lot of fun.  Oramar also has quite fantasies about ravishing the witch-queen...

Favourite Companions: Submissive but powerful adventuring women? Blink dogs, fair folk and assorted benevolent monsters?  Those who share the courage and faith to imagine a better world and try and make it happen?

Sexual Themes: Oramar's sexual attitudes in very many ways stretch back to when he was Gabriel.  As chubby teenage nerd with a fondness for fantasy novels and anime, he dreamed of being a harem king—arrogant, commanding, and powerful but loving and ministering to his devoted concubines.
As Oramar, he now embodies many of those fantasies.  Standing almost eight feet tall, muscular and well proportioned, he has gained strength, magic, and puissant skill at arms.  He has also suffered things Gabriel never endured outside of his own fantasies.  He never met the titanic wandering swordsman his father is supposed to have been—a man said to be nine feet tall and able to forge a massive blade throuh strength of will alone!  His mother was stern and distant at the best of times.  His uncles were harsh—some of them cruel—and he was forced to begin hard labor at their sides in his 5th year.
Thanks to Gabriel, Oramar still holds to unfashionable concepts like compassion, loyalty, heroism, and even a harsh code of honor.  Ormar's childhood hardened him testing and tempering those alien ideals.  He yearns for love, pleasure, and submission.  The authoritarian cruelty of the women in his life makes him hunger to reverse the scales on as many women as he can collect.
He also has an unhealthy fascination with virgins...
22 years old now, he's trying to work up the courage to make a move on Wahida.  He's extremely attracted to her—mind and body—and he suspects she'd be amiable to many of his fantasies.  If only she hadn't been like a sister to him most of their second lives...

Found a picture for my character, though I'm not super excited about it. I always have such trouble finding fantasy pictures that fit what I want.

I'm cool with Portrait of Darkness, myself.

Are you looking for a more in depth history with the sheet or now?
Like what you see? I am currently looking for new plots!

All of my image links were previously photobucket and broken -- I'm fixing them as I use the avatars again, or for current games. Please let me know if there is something that needs updating!

Callie Del Noire

Not too sure that outright 'Portrait of Darkness' is what I'd enjoy. A struggle is good but one where nothing ever works? I dunno. Still hammering out my character though.

assleigh

Portrait of Darkness doesn't have to do with our effectiveness, just 'what we see' in the background as the scene is set. We're going to be making the world better... Probably... Depending on our choices... So it's more about how graphic you're comfortable with reading the misery and darkness in the world.

My ONs and OFFs

Elven Sex Goddess

EndofDivine

Hate to be "that" person and vote against everyone else but I think I'd prefer the second option. Dark settings are great and all but I feel like too much of it just takes away from the whole mood. A little bit of gore and wickedness here and there is fine for the shock value but I don't want it to turn into "Oh look. Another ritualistically tortured and mutilated body with its entrails thrown about. Ho hum."

SheerFantasia

@ lockepick: The character sheet can come for now, and we can always solidify the details of their history after (it should be easier when the OOC is up so that people can discuss)

@ Elven Sex Goddess: Looking good!

So far I think we'll run the game in the Darkness through Inference vein (and I suspect there should be plenty of content enough to paint the picture).  As for groups, I still haven't gotten any solid responses on that, so I'm thinking that the following will present the best solution:

  • Everyone starts as one big group together in the same world.
  • Whilst doing general exploration and socialising, the large group can stay together (generally within the same area the size of a city so they can reach and 'feel' each other).
  • The group can break into two groups when they go on quests.  I'm seeing this as a way to cover more ground on related quests (e.g. if they don't know where the real bandit camp is, they can split and cover more ground, ensuring that if they missed clues, they can at least reduce the chances the bandits will elude them entirely).  Maybe each group can choose a name for themselves (e.g. The Silver Hand or some other...).  Magic can always provide the means to keep in touch.  This is generally my preference that everyone work together as team.

Now, when splitting into groups, I'd suggest the following, based on what I've seen and read of characters and player preferences:

  • assleigh, Elven Sex Goddess, EndofDivine, Ghostwheel, lockepick
  • Callie Del Noire, Marie Reynolds, Muse, Siereis, torawashi
or

  • Elven Sex Goddess, EndofDivine, Marie Reynolds, Muse, torawashi
  • assleigh, Callie Del Noire, Ghostwheel, lockepick, Siereis
All groups are based on a 3 female, 2 male (regardless of player gender) combination.  If there are any issues or other suggestions/preferences, just let me know, so I can adjust accordingly.

assleigh

I believe Elven Sex Goddess and Muses characters have links in their back story so we should probably keep them together she we break up into two teams. Plus being with the half demons suits My Characters aesthetic  so I'll vote for grouping 2.

My ONs and OFFs

Ghostwheel

I'm fine either way.

So we're starting at first level, right? When would you like to get started by? (Sometime this week, or next week?)

SheerFantasia

The OOC and IC will go up this week, latest by Wednesday and Friday, respectively.

Ghostwheel

Will look forward to it :-)

Do you want us to post character sheets and the like anywhere before we begin?

SheerFantasia

You can send me a copy or post it here, just so I can review it (and get an idea and feel for the character since I'm already working on plots and NPCs).  When the OOC comes, we'll at least be able to put up the finalised thing so we can get to playing faster!  ;)

Ghostwheel

So 20 point buy, +2 to Con or Wis if male, +2 to Int or Cha if female, first level characters...

How much gold do we have at the start (if any)? I think that's all we need to have our characters up.

Lockepick

In regards to how the two parties do or don't interact -- I'm fine with doing whatever is easiest for the GM.

Frankly, I don't really want the two parties to meet, because 10 people in a single scene is a bit much, and will take forever even if it's just talking. 10 players in a combat? The game will probably die.

Any preferred website for sheets? dndsheets? Mythweavers?

Elven Sex Goddess

I went with the class average with how much gold started with.   I out of habit since usually the norm,  went with max hit points at first level.    The only thing I rolled was the age in which I got a 2 on a d6 to add to starting age.

As for the settings background theme.   The portrait of darkness is fine.   As it is a dark place, yet I envision like a Frank Miller graphic novel,  the characters as a splash of color in a dark monotone world.   Although I can go with any that the group on a whole wants.   With regards also to including our dungeon master to his preferences.

Group two looks good to me.   As indeed my character and Muse have linked in back story and character build.       Through with groups one or both groups might stagnant as people some times have things come up in real life where they have to withdraw.   I think keeping the option open in the story unfolding with the groups merging if such happens.

Callie Del Noire

Busy weekend.. I'll have my character sheet up and done by tomorrow.

Ghostwheel

I've got mine all ready. Just need final word on gold and I'll have it done.

Fortunately, being a monk means you don't have to invest too heavily in weapons or armor ;D

torawashi

Cool! I'm working on my character sheet as we speak, and finally found a picture of my dude that works for me.

As far as content, I'm mostly okay with Portrait of Darkness with a few exceptions. I don't mind violence for the most part, but I'm not comfortable with descriptions of hard rape and child abuse. I'm okay with them being implied or off-screen.

The first is correct Ghostwheel.  As for money, I recommend taking the average and adding another 15 gp on top of it.

Noted lockepick.  I've never really intended to do 10 people per combat (that's just insane, even for me!  ;D).  What I had intended was to get the two groups by 2nd level (with combat not occurring during the first level, mostly skill checks and general interaction).  By 2nd level, the groups would be on their separate ways (though I'm hoping they'll keep contact and work towards a common goal, but just not together).  Let me know your how that sounds to you (and anyone else who reads this).

As for sheets, I'm fine with whichever site you use, so long as I can access it and read it, I have no problems on my side!

As I told Ghostwheel, if you take the average, you can add another 15 gp on top of that.  Also, there's no need to roll for age - you can set it to whatever you feel fits (but if you're okay with what you rolled, 17 I believe, then you can keep that).  The only thing required is that characters be within 16 - 30 years of age when they start. (Also see ageing below)

2nd and 3rd paragraph well noted.

Picture looks great!  As it is, I think we'll be going with the Darkness through Inference option and occasionally splash some Portrait of Darkness.  Your discomforts are well noted, and I'll be sure to keep away from direct portrayal of them (though given my own preferences, I won't even make mention of child abuse since it's a touchy subject with me).

Now, in other news, the OOC is 75% finished, so it should be up on schedule and will compile all the info we've gone over so far in a single place.

Ageing: As stated before, character's have the potential to age in this campaign (depending on how much time passes by dice roll during interim periods) so I'm going to add the following house rule on ageing, since the original rules kind of suck and are pretty disadvantageous on the whole (in short characters don't mature, they just get weaker).

Marie Reynolds

I have some writers block issues but ill try and get the character ready.

Muse

*Waves*

   Good morning, ESG.  I hope I wasn't out of line there.  ^_^;;

When I read the game premise in detail I noticed it say we all grew up in the same town and met each other growing up, proving to one another that our memories of Earth weren't just dreams or childhood fantasies.

From there I assumed we would have all known each other and it wouldn't be out of line to assume our own character's feelings and intentions towards other characters.
