Story thread

OOC / char gen thread

______________________________

Ok, so this is my first request thing, and I hope I'm doing it right. ><

I had this idea for a freeform rp, based in the future. I would love some help/advice developing this.

Here's a basic premise:

It is the future, 2220 AD, on a horribly polluted Earth. There's very few natural resources. Most animals and plants have perished via human irresponsibility, disease and genetic sterility, a lot of the food is synthetic.

The world is mostly run by companies. "Civilised" people live and work in huge company buildings, like towers. Many live in physical isolation, all but married to work, communicating through neurally transmitted computer and phone signals. Life is very difficult for those who live outside the cities and do not work for a company.

Large companies can even form their own cities of employees. Gencorp, a company specialising in genetic engineering (and rumoured to be responsible for some of the disasters that made earth this way) is such a company, very powerful. Its city is called "New Olympus". Outside of this city are toxic swamplands, a very few non-employee settlements and several illegal shanty-towns.

In response to the lack of animal life and plants,  GenCorp  created hybrid plant/humans. Fresh fruit is a rich man's luxury and these plants are extremely expensive, rich man's items. In time, the plants were given more and more human elements, as a kind of companion creature as well as a source of fresh produce. One of their earliest but still popular models was the FructaFille, a plant that resembles a woman's torso and face, albeit ending at the hips in a rootball that sinks into a vat of nutrients.

GenCorp has also conducted other experiments with animal dna, in which more human matter is evident in the "models" they produce. These experiments are/were extremely controversial, but there's a definite market for what they make among the monied classes.

The company has a secret lab where they're continuing hybridisation experiments, producing "dryads" like the FructaFille 9 (these later models are more woman-like) and satyrs, goatish men with vast sexual appetite, things like that. The object in this is to cater to the sex slave and companion creature market, though the experiments are still technically illegal. Money talks, though, and the officials are looking the other way as long as things are kept discreet, since the very people who can afford to buy such creatures are the ones in power.

A group of rebel environmentalists want to expose this and bring down Gencorps and like companies, who actually profit from the wasted condition of Earth and its natural species. They also object to the treatment of these new lifeforms. The rebels are seen as terrorists, and hunted down where possible. Some rebels actually work at Gencorps, while others hide out in the swamps and shanty towns outside the city. The rebels have taken to stealing GenMod critters, worth millions each, and setting them loose in the "wilderness", or what's left of it, or otherwise trying to give them freedom, since they are not deemed sentient and have no rights at all.

___

Possible roles here are:

GenCorps scientists / Company honchos
Security forces who hunt the rebels/recapture or exterminate the liberated GenMod critters
Scientists who are leaning toward agreeing with/co-operating with the rebels
Rebels in and outside of the company
Rich GenMod critter owners
Rebels who care for/shelter the liberated critters
Advanced, sentient experimental creatures, dryads, satyrs, minotaurs, catpeople, whatevers.

___

Opinions/ideas appreciated!

Crovonovin

Getting ready to hit the hay at the moment, but I just wanted to express my interest in this game!  I would be able to play multiple characters if necessary.  Perhaps an Experiment Hunter/Enforcer and an Experimental Runaway, to get on both sides of the conflict.

Hi Shihong,

I thought I might play both sides, too.

I'm still working up my char sheets right now, but here's a sketch of chars I like:

Dr. Tamis Dunsany
Age: 32
sex- F
orientation - Straight
Auburn hair, green eyes
Assistant Chief Psychobiologist, GenCorp

Dr. Dunsany is one the scientists who became increasingly disturbed by the bend GenCorps is taking toward illegal experiments-- not only for the slave trade, but some of their  hideous and top-secret bioweapon experiments -- including the mysterious "Chimaera" which she only knows about as a brief hint on paper.

Knowing exactly what happens to people who voice dissent, she seeks contact with one of the rebel groups near Greentown, led by notorious environmental terrorist Harlan Soames.  While she doesn't like what Soames is doing either (blowing up labs, releasing the GenMods to their almost certain death in the wild, etc) she does agree that GenCorp has to be stopped (she knows a lot more than the rebels do about their atrocities).

-- Soames and four others are subsequently arrested in a raid, during which 12 'feral' ModGen units are shot and 9 others recovered. These nine are sent to Dunsany's dept for re-programming. Due to her seeking Soames out in custody, Tamis falls under suspicion from SecCom (the security division/army of GenCorps), their Director personally out to prove her a traitor.

-- so that's charry 1. Charry 2 (I would be happy for someone else to play her) is:

Gretal Luxom
Age: 24
Orientation: Omni
Blonde hair, pale blue eyes
Wife of Luxom Exports CEO, Robert Luxom (age 58)

Gretal is the spoiled-rotten younger wife of a powerful man high up in the GenMod business chain. She is the proud owner of several ModGen units including an original Fructafille I, a Peach Dryad (Suki), a Wolfen bodyguard (Dreyfus), a Minotaur groundskeeper/estate security (Orlando) and a Bovine house servant (Betsy).

Her sexual appetites are enormous and varied, though she smart enough to keep these discreet. Still, rumours abound among the servant classes about her legendary excesses, especially those involving her inhuman slaves.

While she pretends to be a dumb blonde, she weilds a deal more power than most realise, directly influencing many important deals via her skills at social charm and manipulation, and her hold over her older husband, who is on several important boards including GenCorps. It was at her instigation that the Satyr Mods were created, for example.

_____

Just some further thoughts:

The ModGen "units" resemble humans more than animals, but they have clear bestial/plantlike features and traits. So the later Minotaur units aren't necessarily bull-headed men, so much as men who carry a brute-muscled bullish physiology and bull-like features. Ok, and horns and a tail. :>

The Dryad series are a step up from the relatively inhuman FructaFilles. These plantlike women are mobile, for a start, though still dependant on abundant water and nutrients to bathe in daily. They do flower and may bear fruit, if properly pollinated. Dryads developed for sexual slavery give off exquisite perfume when aroused, and are very submissive.

-- Some rebels want all GenMod production to cease and all GenMods destoyed. Other want them granted rights as "Humanoid Sentients".

Nim

Very well thought out first idea.  One that I really cant resist even with the full plate I seem to have picked up lately.  Thinking of maybe playing a duel role as well.  Rebel of some sort, haven't really decided yet on details/Advanced, sentient experimental creatures, dryads, satyrs, minotaurs, catpeople, whatevers. Again undecided on what exactly... will have to put some thought into it.

Hey Shihong, funny seeing you here.

S1DESH0W

I'd be interested in playing a Security force or hunter type human. Or a "critter". Or both if need be.
In the end, everything tastes like chicken. And chicken, my friend, tastes good.

Nim

S1DESH0W

ya. tryin to get a few things goin.
In the end, everything tastes like chicken. And chicken, my friend, tastes good.

Nim

Sounds like a plan to me.  It's not all that hard to get things going the hardest part is slowing them down once they start to roll.  hehe

Well, since there's some enthusiasm, I'll post the RP thread tomorrow.

I'm going to try to set up a sense of place here (please offer suggestions, this is not one of my strengths):

Climate change and political unrest in the past has changed the face of America.
There are no longer "states" as such but corporate territories. Think of giant, complex, legal gangs.
There are no police, but contracted security companies which police areas and manage prisons.
New Olympus is secured by SecCom, a company contracted by GenCorps.
The law is based around what does and does not support business.
Human rights have taken a steady nose dive, but those who suffer from it know better than to protest.

New Olympus

GenCorps' main North American city, New Olympus, is in Florida. It's named for its massive high-rise buildings.
People live where they work. Marriage is no longer a valued institution. Single people are rewarded faster than those who live with partners
so a lot more people live alone (this increases productivity, it was discovered).
Everything is monitored here-- what you eat, what you weigh, how much time you devote to the company.
Everyone can presume they are under some kind of surveillance at any given time.
Smoking and alcohol, along with high-fat natural foods etc, are prohibited by company Law (health and fitness = better company commodities).
Food is mostly synthetic, with natural supplements provided by GenMod grain grown in the company's Mid-Western crop sheds.
However, the extremely wealthy can afford "real food", meat, coffee and dairy produce for example, brought in from the world's very few remaining
viable farmlands. Their consumption of these illicit luxury goods is never questioned. The highest levels of the corporate sector are above the Law.

Greentown

West of New Olympus is the smaller settlement of Greentown, home to blue collar workers who cannot afford the city: janitors, food technicians, etc.
Still very crowded, but there's a little more room out here. More like the old style cities of the 21st C, but rather run-down.
It's not such a big deal if you live with a partner/family in Greentown. However, there's also less protection against pollutants and food
and other supplies are sometimes unreliable. A term for being an outcast or slated for failure in the corporate world is "living in/being sent to Greentown".

The Pits

South of Greentown is a swampland (maybe once the everglades?) where criminals and other undesirables like to hide out.
The name for this area is The Pits, after its dangerous sinkholes, quicksands and high pollution levels.
One has to know where one is going, in The Pits. This is why SecCom is so reluctant to send security details into it.
There's still some vegetation but it's sickly and diseased, lots of algae. Wildlife is almost all gone.
There's still the occasional alligator or python, though these are rare. Starvation and sickness make them highly aggressive.
Water filters and pre-packaged food are a must, to avoid contamination. If, that is, you don't know where to find clean water food.
One or two unpolluted springs exist, and enterprising "highwaymen" waylay supplies intended for New Olympus. Including good steaks.
Very few people actually dwell in The Pits, it's more a stop-over for those who need a refuge from the law.

Locations of Note:

GenCorps Laboratories

- Psych Lab (where the critters are imprinted with desired behavioural traits)
- Gen Lab (where the critters are made)
- "Upstairs" - Nickname for the Upper Management Sector
- "Dowstairs: - Nickname for the Restricted Area Labs

Luxom Exports

- Apartment of Gretal and Robert Luxom
- Loading Sheds

SecCom High Security Facility:

- Holding Cells
- Interrogation Room
- Prison

(I'd like some ideas for locations in Greentown)

Francie's Place

- a speakeasy and whorehouse deep in The Pits where alcohol, tobacco and a variety of other illegal substances are sold.
It's said, "At Francie's, everything is for sale" - including weapons, explosives and even corporate secrets.
A favourite haunt of decadent corporate types who like to "slum it"-- even though, among many other dangers, some type of blackmail is almost a certainty.

Nim

"Smoking and alcohol, along with high-fat natural foods etc, are prohibited by company Law"

This statement only serves to solidify the fact that yes I shall be a REBEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!    Down with Prohibition!!!!!  Oops sorry man's got to have his beer and whiskey after all... not to mention a nice cool menthol ciggy or two...

I really think you don't give yourself enough credit your idea's and way of putting this altogether really don't lack for anything to be added to.  At least in my humble opinion.

Nim

Oh... but if I might be so bold.  Due to the nature of the subject matter that may possibly be brought to play I think Extreme might be a better forum than NC... Just a thought anyway.

wolfsgirl

Ah-- yes, okay. Good point, thanks!

I take it you'll be a regular at Francie's? ;)

Nim

Hehe... well I'm not normally one to give away trade secrets so early at in the game... but possibly... LOL

Doomsday

Game looks damn interesting, but may I make a suggestion? You should decrease the scope of the game a little bit... Not of the story, but of the game itself. Giving players so many options to play as... Rebels and scientists and dryads and satyrs and minotaurs and neko's... What's probably going to happen is that you'll get a couple people playing as the genetic freaks, maybe one rebel, a handful of scientists... And nobody will really be interacting together. The scope and focus of the game is too scattered.

Do you sort of get my drift? ::)

Odin

Well, even though the scope is apparently wide, its caught my attention.

PM sent!

Nim

I really don't think there will be as many problems as one would think.  Sure there is a wide scope but all it takes is a little imagination to pull the characters together.  It should work out fine.  However if it does turn out to be a problem I'm quite certain our fearless leader will find a good way for us to work around it as we discuss the problems that may or may not arrive.

Doomsday

What I mean is, is there some sort of goal that's going to be on the character's minds, or is the plot just sort of... Free floating?

Ramael

Expressing interest!
I would like to play an advanced satyr...? Where would be best to slot one in?

Nim

I'm not really all that sure on the exact plot as of yet but the game is a foot and running.  here's the link if you haven't already taken a peak. https://elliquiy.com/forums/index.php?topic=63688.0

Nim

And here is the new O.O.C thread as well.  https://elliquiy.com/forums/index.php?topic=63682.0  Wolfsgirl is working on a post so I'm just kinda playing mediator till she's done... LOL

wolfsgirl

.. this is such a long-ass post, Nim. o.o Promise they won't all be like this =P

Your help's very appreciated, also. <3

Nim

*chuckles lightly*  No worries on this end and you are more than welcome.  Looking forward to reading your book... oh... I mean post when ever it happens to arrive.   ;)

wolfsgirl

LOL. Ps: The old doesn't have to be Kirk's real mother, haha. She could be a front-- I'll leave it up to you.

Nim

Hmmm curious to see what the old is about but I am sure I'll see once I read your post.

Ramael

Ah. Thanks for that.

I'm quite happy to keep my Satyr voice-less until vocal chords can be implanted, which I assume would be after Kirk's rescue operation.

When would be a good time to insert my char? I should perhaps write up a char sheet, tho it may be quite small if he is just a creation.
