Greetings writers and welcome to Hellgate.

Hellgate is a Modern Apocalyptic Guided-Sandbox that takes place in the not so distant future of 2022, in a world very much like our own.

We thought we were alone in the universe. We believed ourselves to be the top of the food chain. We thought all those stories about good and evil were just bits for the superstitious. Those stories in the bible about heaven and hell were just fiction to help some people cope with life easier. We were fucking wrong.

April 23, 2019, that was the first time we saw them. The god damn sky ripped open out of no where and these giant bat things rained down over Los Angeles. They looked like something taken right out of a bad horror flick with their long arms, big claws, leathery wings and disfigured faces. The way they snatched people into the air and started dropping them from five hundred feet or so in the air didn't help the notion that they came out of a bad horror film. Sure as shit though, there they were and the fuckers wouldn't just die. People went crazy, popping the things with their little street guns, but it wasn't until the F-16's from the LA Air Force Base showed up that any progress was actually made. The hole in the sky? It fixed itself, but we hadn't seen the last of the bastards. Not even close.

Turns out that American's weren't even special in this whole doomsday event; over the weeks that followed at least four more of these tears were reported across the globe: two in Africa, one in Canada and another in China. That was good for the global community because there was a lot of rumors that this was some sort of secret Chinese invasion plot - turns out that people stop thinking that when one of the rifts opens and blows up a countries capitol. Not so surprisingly people wanted to figure out what was going on, and everyone working on their own was really slowing things down. That's when Samantha Hall stepped up and proposed to the United Nations Security Council that something needed to be done in a big way. Thus she was appointed Director of the Strategic Enemy Response and Activity Prevention Hierarchy, otherwise known as S.E.R.A.P.H., an organization sanctioned by the world governments to assess, deal with and defend against these attacks. Recruiting from around the globe, pooling resources, and gathering strength and brilliance from every country had a lot of benefits. Before the first year was out we hadn't identified the creatures but we did understand more about them and sort of where they came from.

We coined the term Hellgates, which was the name we gave to the tears - what science calls dimensional fissures - the baddies came out of. Truth is the first two years of SERAPH were pretty rocky. The first one was spent just scrambling to figure things out, and the second was full of very ineffective fighting methods. So ineffective that Samantha was - forcefully - replaced as the director of SERAPH by Benjamin Cade. Cade was a hard ass but he was also very effective at his job. He restructured the entire organization, gave it more clear purpose and definition. He gave us a vision and then equipped us with the tools to make that vision a reality. There were a lot of different teams, units and operations but there was one among us that was the best...

The Archangels. Our best, our elite, our top of the line. These folks live, breath, eat, sleep and shit demonic death. A single team equipped with the best, most cutting edge technology the best minds in the world can produce. They're the front line of defense against these Hellspawn fuckers. They don't just clean up messes, they jump into the god damn mud puddle and kick Lucifer's ass right back into his fiery pit.

Game Information

• Who is running this game?
  That would be Wispyr
• How many players will there be?
  At this time I am looking to take six to eight people with me. That means that this game is not first come first serve and will instead use a brief application process, of which I will select those I feel will be best suited for the game.
• Who can play?
  Anyone and everyone.
• What about posting guidelines?
  Enough content in each post for players to work with, however we'd like to see a bare minimum of roughly 300 words (3 solid paragraphs) per post. Posts should be written in the third person past tense. This game will use a standard seven day posting cycle.
• What board will this play in?
  Extreme. This is to facilitate anything that may come up, however individual preferences can and will be respected. That said this game is like to get very graphic (not sexually speaking), and players should be prepared to cover a variety of dark themes, as well as explicit violent content.
• Can I play a bad guy?
  Not in the truest sense of the word. However, so long as they can take orders and work as part of a team, the Archangels recruit the best despite some... character flaws.
• Where should character applications be submitted?
  In this thread.

How To Apply
Please fill out the small sheet below and post it into this thread. Once recruitment has concluded we'll take a look at what we have and make choices at that point. Below are the roles that we're looking to fill specifically - please note that I am prepared to take up to four of the "Gunner" role - with an ideal minimum of two. I am open to other role suggestions so long as they fit the theme of the game (hint: stealth is not among them) and do not detract from the roles laid out. Gunners need not be mindless gun brutes (though they certainly can be), they are a critical part of the team, just not a "specialist" role so to speak. If you preform a major edit to your application, please repost it in this thread. You may submit applications for multiple roles if you have various ideas, but please note you're likely only to be approved for one unless recruitment goes particularly poorly.

What has made Cade a better leader than Hall?
Success rates and what he's done with SERAPH are evidence of his superior methods of leadership. This can likely be traced back to the fact that Samantha Hall was a politician and Benjamin Cade is a military man. Samantha is not out of the picture and operates as Benjamin's right hand, however it's clear that he now holds the power of the organization. The two do not get along.

How are Archangels recruited?
It's, usually, a fairly long process. There are interviews, simulations, physical tests, mental tests, really the whole package. Candidates are often found by means of service records, reputation and active service. There's a lot of recruitment from world military organizations - as well as private military organizations. Some people are suggested, and rarely (but not completely unheard of) some random person will be recruited, but never without good reason.

What type of training do Archangels get?
You don't end up an Archangel unless you're already pretty much a baked cookie, in terms of general training, knowledge and skills. The people on the team are meant to be some of the best options available, period. That said they are given classified information and insight into the known Hellspawn. Basically they're trained beyond their normal, to deal with what they're going to be fighting. A lot of the basic skills though would already be possessed.

How new are our characters to the Archangel team?
Assume very new. However I will approve longer term members on a case by case.

2) Where is it going to be headquartered?

Basic Concept: Jasper "Fate" Lafayette
Fate came from a long line of militarists on both sides of his family. Hell, that's how his parents met in the first place. It was the classic tale of soldier meets nurse, nurse patches soldier up, soldier asks nurse out, and then they get married. But that's really neither here nor there. The expectations were no different with Fate. From a young age, he showed active interest in the military. He actually requested to be sent to a military academy upon entering junior high school; he was sent to Randolph-Macon Academy in Front Royal, VA, just 70 miles from his home in Washington, DC. In addition to his studies, he participated in swimming, track and field, the flight program, and the honor guard program, as well as learning Spanish, Japanese, and Arabic. He graduated a year early at the top of his class and immediately enlisted in the Air Force at age 17. 

While he wasn't deployed for most of the action in the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars, he was able to get involved in the tail end of things, spending his first tour of four years in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria. He quickly found that his aptitude fell with the Communications, IT, and Intelligence sector and began to pursue a career path as an intelligence officer. With the rise of the internet and more specifically, the deep web, Fate returned to the States and began working on several operations to halt and take down drug rings, human trafficking, and child pornography.

Once the Hellgates began, he was one of the first to volunteer for defense against the demons, however he was not one of the chosen for SERAPH. Instead, he took to local defense with the military in DC and began to research and study these demons and Hellgates every chance he had, even going so far as flying across the world on a moment's notice just to learn more or if he arrived in enough time, fight against the hellspawns.

Basic Concept:Alexander Tremayne.

One shot, one kill.  Some say he's lazy.  He doesn't talk much, always seems to be moving slowly, looking bored.  Couldn't be further from the truth.  He's efficient.  When he talks, he makes his words count.  When he shoots, he shoots like bullets are an endangered species. 

Originally, Alexander was a member of the LAPD, part of the tactical SWAT team.  His job was to deal with dangerous threats with a minimum of collateral damage.  When SERAPH began recruiting, he was tapped and brought over to use his skills to kill things that were slightly up the food chain than terrorists and bank robbers.  For the most part unassuming, he was originally going to be trained in infiltration and wetwork, however when the Archangels were introduced, it was realized that being sneaky doesn't mean shit to demons. However, talent is talent, and they weren't about to waste it.

Alexander isn't one to really care too much about who he kills, all things considered.  Demons are just targets to him, and he's been happy to see that their heads explode nicely with a high caliber round between the eyes.
