The basic idea I have for this game, if there is enough interest for it, is that a group of super-heroines have found themselves blackmailed by a villain with dark secrets from their past, information on their secret identities, and so on.  The heroines could be either an official team, or just loosely affiliated.  The game would be high in smut, with a plot focused on them trying to protect the city, but at the same time being ordered into comprising situations, and even forced to commit crimes.

It would use Mutants and Masterminds 3rd Edition.  I'd like a core group of 1-4 heroines.  I would also accept 0-2 heroes, who would probably be being blackmailed separately from the heroines (and used against the heroines.  I'll admit I don't enjoy playing a dom to a male, so that would only be an option if there was a villain player who was willing to), and 0-2 of the villain's henchmen.

It would be the basic PL10 with 150PP.  It would probably be NC-Exotic, though Extreme is possible if enough people were interested.

Would anyone be interested?

I'd be very interested in a game like this, it sounds like a great idea.

I have a couple of character power ideas for just what she might've done that's so bad, I'm thinking mind control right now.

Muse

Jaded, you are an endless font of incredible ideas. Please consider me interested.

I understand if you want a chance to game with others of course.  : )

This does sound interesting; I think I have the M&M core book from one of the editions around here somewhere. I'll have to see if I can dig it up and see if it's 3rd edition.

Blinkin, mutants and masterminds core mechanic is derived from d20.  You'd pick it up fast.  Essentialy, you play the whole game with a single 20 sided dice.  THe only rolls you'll ever make are skill checks, attack rolls, and saving throws.

No hit points.   You have a toughness save to resist damage.

Now, character building is a little more complicated.  This is basically a comic book GURPS.  If you get your hands on the heroes handbook, I also recommend the Power Profile.s  They make character generation MUCH easier.  (Which makes them a good GM tool too!)

If you don't have the books there is an srd for 3rd ed: http://www.d20herosrd.com/

It's been a while since I last looked at it, but I remember the system being fairly straightforward.

D12

The book I had was the core for 2nd edition. Nice to see there's an SRD, I love the PFSRD to pieces; it just makes looking stuff up so much easier.

Character generation is always the hardest part. I have an old 2nd 10 | 150 character, but she's... She's Raven from the Teen Titans cartoon. I was young and naive!  :-[

Count me intrigued and begging for the chance to play. I have a character concept that can easily go either light or dark side. If you have the space, my young woman works best from the protagonist side, but could be a very fun antagonist as well.

Thanks for the SRD site, it'll help me figure this out.

I'm thinking a little about a "dark" heroine, in that her powers would center around shadows and manipulation of shadows. Unless someone else wanted to use that idea.

I have a LOT of ideas, some I've used before and love to revisit, others are new.

What jumps into my mind for this story is a girl with ice powers--and possibly a little bit of majo shojo (magic girl) flare.

Unless, of course, this story can handle just a little bit of silly.  in which case I'd LOVE to play my Comic Book Girl.

Well if the entire team is some form of elemental, light and dark totally count, I'll probably swap from mind manipulation to lightning. Though either way I'm planning on playing a grayer hero morality wise, at least she was in the past when she got into some sort of trouble.

I always like playing lightning specced characters, but the chance rarely comes up.

D12

I'm thinking something like this:

I think I'll call her Lady Radiance, or something along those lines. I think I'll put a heavy dump of her points into moving at light speed and shooting lasers; maybe something like a Glass Cannon in combat.

Over confident, boastful, maybe a little bit arrogant in a kind of buying-her-own-hype sort of thing.

I am having some trouble thinking up a good 'dark secret' for her though. Suggestions?

I'm thinking that it might be an Alternate Form; I like the idea that she has a human shape where the lines are just tattoos, but on the other hand I'm sort of thinking of going with an origin along the lines of... she's an Outsider and her 'dark secret' that she's being blackmailed for/with is something like her True Name; but it's a work in progress.

Very new to the site, but interested, if possible.  Quite familiar with M&M.

One notion I've had: Think about being a Batgirl-type superhero.  You dress up in a tight costume (sometimes taking your clothes off to change in an alley), wrestle with strange men and women (sometimes also wearing skintight or skimpy costumes) and crawl around on rooftops, peeking through skylights to find information.  You can't tell any "normal" people about this, which really limits your social life.  And if all your most exciting contact is with perverse, strange people, then you might start to get perverse and strange yourself.

The blackmail might become a convenient justification for cutting loose, in time.

A Batgirl-type might have had a lesbian tryst with a Catwoman type, who took pictures, as one idea.

Or a sorceress who had to deal with a demon or other sorcerer/sorceress, giving up part of her soul to get out of a sticky situation... and the demon might be working through a local crime lord or super villain, for local blackmail goals.

I'm thinking about a young speedster whose origin is a lot darker than is known to the public.

So I'm pretty sure I'll go with the telepath/mind controller. Someone who made a few major mistakes when she first came to her power that she's been trying to atone even though she really wants to continue doing it.

She's a pretty serious girl that's used to hiding in the background/working from the shadows since her powers only give her the ability to dodge attacks from people well, no additional durability or strength that makes fights sort of tricky. If we are a team she'd probably want to play mission control or infiltrator as much as she can.

The blackmail is probably forcing her to act much more openly than she feels comfortable with.

Also, D12 seconding the appreciation for the awesome picture. A dangerous, but rare, weakness might make a good dark secret if you go with the Outsider idea. True name could be that or maybe a means of attack.

Muse

<--is rolling on the keyboard, laughing at the top of his frontal lobe at the accidental and utterly perfect play on names he made!

This is the character audition I'm working on:

Mary Robinson

Name:         Mary Robinson
Build Points:      150/150
Concept:         Comic Book Girl
Faith:         Mormon
Origin:         Mary has no clue how or why it happened, but for 9 months now she has found herself responding to danger--especially threats to the innocent--by turning into characters from the racy comic books she writes.  She then retains the form, powers, and personality of these uninhibited character ‘til the next rising of the sun.
This has lead to a lot of blushing…
Race:         Human

Age:            24
Birthday:         11th of February
Gender:         Female
height:         5’5”
Weight:         135lbs
Measures:       36”D, 26”, 32”
Skin:         Fair and creamy.
Hair:            Raven black, usually kept in a long french braid.
Eyes:         Beautiful, vivid sapphire, usually muted by her glasses.
Style:         Whenever going out, Marry usually wears the same conservative but elegant dresses she does when doing missionary work.

So, I randomly asked some people for a good name for a girl born in a Mormon family.  Mary was suggested--for Mary the mother of Christ.  I replied that was more a catholic name, but then I flashed on Marry Magdeline--whom it is entirely likely Jesus married at the wedding at Caina, but is usually combined with the prostitute who washed Jesus's feet...  Cause we can't have the son of god get married like every other man in his culture!

I decided this was entirely appropriate for a a girl who changes forms between a conservative, compassionate virgin and a variety of playful wenches.

I missed the point completely!

So, Mary is a shy and repressed conservative Mormon, but she writes about uninhabited, wild and sexy comic book heroines.  They're an outlet for her own repressed sexuality and other wild aspects.

So, what do you call it when a writer inserts themselves into their own stories, with superpowers, and the freedom to do the things they can't do in real life?

Her supper power is that she's a Mary Sue!!!

I think I will go with the Outsider idea; drawing some inspiration from Meridia have her be something like an actual demon that abhors evil/darkness in all it's forms. (Still working on what she hates)

Thinking maybe she got summoned by some unlucky dark wizard whom she promptly smote and then; now being free in the mortal world, she goes about smiting other 'dark' beings like criminals & villains so she can get some of that sweet sweet (fan) worship action.

Have her big secret be her true nature/True Name, and other weaknesses be derived from what her true nature is; stuff like, because she's a demon pure iron & holy water wound her, while her True Name can be like... spoken three times to compel her to appear, or deliberately mispronounced to stun or maybe impair her.

Some stuff on my character idea...

Blitz-Beine (German for "Lightning Legs")
Real Name: Angelika Marie Gauss
Date of Birth: 28 May (age 17)
Place of Birth: Munich,  Germany
Height: 5'4"  Weight: 116 lbs.
Hair: Blonde  Eyes: Blue
Measurements: 34C-24-35

History: Angelika Gauss is the daughter of a Bavarian State Police officer killed in the line of duty when she was very young. As a child, Angelika became interested in gymnastics and had hopes of going to the Olympics. When she was 16, she was involved in an automobile accident when the car she was in struck a power pole. Rushed to the hospital, it was discovered that the exposure to electricity had given her superhuman speed. Angelika was recruited into Spezialjäger ("Special Hunters"), Germany's small but official superhuman team. After a period of training, Angelika was given a costume and the codename Blitz-Beine. Due to the high cut of her outfit's bottom, some members of the German media dubbed her Blitz-Backen ("Lightning Cheeks") much to her chagrin.

Recently, Blitz-Beine was chosen was selected by Germany as a liaison to the United States. While honored to be part of such an international gesture of goodwill, Angelika worries if she is somehow underperforming and is thus expendable. So far she has mixed feelings about her mission. Meanwhile back in Germany, a young reporter has uncovered some discrepancies in Blitz-Beine's origin tale. For one thing, there is no sign of an accident occurring where it is said to have happened. The leadership of Spezialjäger is aware of his investigation and relocated Angelika while they consider their options.

Appearance: Blitz-Beine is a young blonde with long hair she wears braided. She has a small scar on her face near her chin she says is from the accident that gave her the powers she has. Her uniform consists of a sleeveless long-sleeved tunic that leaves her muscular legs bare. It also exposes a great deal of her buttocks, much to the delight of aficionados of female super-heroes. Blitz-Beine has the dubious honor of being voted "Ultimate Ass" according to one popular lad's mag. Her uniform varies in color, usually it is white but she also has versions in green, pink, blue, and black. She wears either a garrison cap or a beret, which gives her something of a military look, and protective bracers on her forearms. She also paints lightning bolts on her legs as a nod to her alias.

Personality: Angelika tries to always come off as a no-nonsense professional. She tends to follow orders from superiors with little question. A big reason for this is that she is a fairly insecure person and doesn't think she is taken seriously. As a result, Blitz-Beine is always eager to please in hopes of getting some sort of validation.

I have a biomanipulator in mind, limited strictly to personal. Able to control her body and change herself, prehensile hair, produce a tail, claws, fangs, alter joints to increase leap and run speeds. She would work alot as an infiltrator as well as options girl.

A more full concept:

Oversight
Real Name: Katja Hayward
Age: 19
Home City: New York, New York
Height: 5'1"  Weight: 90 lbs.
Hair: Black  Eyes: Violet

History: Katja had always been the smart girl in the back of the class that knew the answer to every question, but would only speak when spoken to. It wasn't due to a lack of interest though, she was watching everyone very intently. She simply preferred watching people and figuring out how they work over actually interacting with them.

This all changed when her powers started developing. She'd known that sometimes people simply got super powers, but never dreamed it would happen to her. It started with being able to feel the presence of minds around her. Soon after that she could tell what they were feeling, then what they were thinking. Then she pushed further. The teenage mind turned out to be a terribly easy thing to control. A slight tweak of emotion here, an inserted thought there, and they can be molded into whatever you desire.

For Katja, this power was too great and her self-control too low. She spent about a month as the hidden queen of her school. That all ended when she went too far. If any hero had realized she would have instantly been branded a heinous villain,

She ran away when she realized what happened, unwilling to believe that she let herself go that far. Katja had been planing to go to college for psychiatry, thinking her powers would help her. Instead she went out to fight crime, anything to atone for what she'd done. Thankfully, mind reading made it easy to both find and apprehend common criminals.

Personality: Katja is a quiet girl who spends a lot of her time planning out every action and trying to stop violence before it occurs, or if it's unavoidable ending the fight as quickly as she can. She wants to help people and understands many at a level they themselves don't, but has trouble with things like consent and letting people make choices she thinks are bad. While she realizes this and tries to compensate, in the heat of the moment it's hard.

I was not expecting this much interest.   :o  Though I was willing to accept up to 8, and we appear to have 8.  ;)

The characters sound interesting so far. :-)

Was everyone interested in playing heroes/heroines?  If so I'll probably look to divide the various characters into groups of 2-4.  Whether teams, sidekick type duos, or just 'friends.'  From there I will (at least some of the time) have them playing against each other to lighten my own workload.

The characters would all have been blackmailed by the same villain, who has powers useful in that regard.  However few if any of them have met him directly.  The villain wouldn't be opposed to them battling other villains, as it helps remove his competition, so they would be allowed to continue their regular jobs at least some of the time.

I don't have a specific city or period in mind.  Do people prefer one from the rulebooks?  One that is basically today but with superheroes?  Or any other suggestions?

Also, what is everyone's preference in terms of content and what section this goes in?  NC-Human, NC-Exotic, or Extreme?

I am good with anywhere from the spectrum from NC-human to Extreme; I think I would probably favor more toward the Extreme if only because it allows for more options, though I will admit few of my interests would fall too far out NC-Exotic, I am flexible.

As for a setting I think, basically today with supers, maybe a little toward to future would be my preference; but again I am flexible, since I'm playing a more 'alien' character I could probably fit her into whatever era we like. I don't need guns/super science or anything. Just magic :P

And since everyone else is posting character stuff, and I'm getting jealous here's a Heavy Beta Sheet. I'm still working through Powers, the the whole, Area, Modifiers, Effect, Descriptors thing took some getting used to again, but I'm pretty sure I've got everything where its supposed to be. A more refined character concept here.

Name:         Rebecca Harrigan
Build Points:      150/150
Concept:         Personal Bio-Manipulator
Faith:         Menonite
Origin:   Rebecca's powers first came to light as a youth of eight. She was on the family fishing vessel on the open seas. The waters had the most intriguing pink and white floating balloons and she jumped in to swim with them. They were jellyfish, and as her family raced to free her of the deadly waters, she just laughed at their caress and danced in the waters with them. She emerged unscathed, without any effects of the jellyfish poisons.

Race:         Human

Age:            21
Birthday:       11th of February
Gender:         Female
height:         6’3”
Weight:         225 lbs
Measures:       42”DD, 34”, 36”
Skin:         Fair and creamy.
Hair:            Raven black, often kept loose or in exotic braidings.
Eyes:         Beautiful, vibrant green
Style: Born of children of the 90s, she likes the urban look, wearing a long black trench, hiking boots, and her ever-present walkman.

Becca has always had an interest in animals, and biology. This increased as her powers manifested and she became more able to manipulate her body to mimic their defenses and biological structures. She makes her money by using her bodies defense to refine and sell lab quality chemicals.

As for setting, now is fine or moderately in the future for setting is perfect for Rebecca as far as  time period. I would go with Extreme just to leave the options open, but personally am not into most of what fits that profile.

Could she be effectively blackmailed long term if her personality shifts a lot?

Hm...

Good question.  (Especialy sine the cave girl is a ditz and the gunslinger-girl is rather amoral...)

I think the answer is yes.  As each of the characters is basicly a repressed aspect of Marry's personality taking charge, they still care about most of the things that she does--and their own continued existence.

So, the best way to blackmail Marry and all her alternate forms would be with a threat to her family.  It would have to be an insidious one rather than just, "We've got your little sister hostage."  Like, something that would destroy  her father both financially and legally, plunging the rest of the family into poverty.

Alternatively--and this one might fall apart as Mary matures--but a threat to reveal her 'secret identity.  While she would be very embarrassed if someone were to go public with the fact--and would consider it a threat to her family as well--when multiple characters by the same author come to life, ti would make sense to look into that authors connection to it.  but....

Oooh, okay.  For that route, maybe Mary writes all these comics under a pen name to begin with?  This way she has a secret identity to protect both in and out of heroine i.D.s.  (Even gives her the option of showing up in a costume without changing.)

But yes, the other identities will frequently work in ways that Mary wouldn't like, but they would still take a threat to reveal Mary seriously, both because--unconsciously at least--they care for Marry's family, for Mary, and their own continued ability to express themselves.

Modern or near-future would seem to be the best as far as being familiar and easy to set up... plus cellphone cameras and the internet make blackmail easy and wide-ranging.  In times past, you could move somewhere else and change your name with comparative ease.  Though a late 60s/early 70s period could be fun... funky action during the sexual revolution! :)

Is there a glossary of terms around?  I'm not quite sure I get the difference between Exotic and Extreme yet... mostly-humanoid verses full anthros, tentacles and such?

For blackmail, I'm picturing she had to make her first deal with a demon to get out of a bad situation, giving up a fragment of her soul to him/her/it.  There might be a crime lord with a demon serving him (or her) or else a demon has possessed a local crime lord to promote sin and vice and indulge in wicked appetites.  The fragment could serve as a ritual focus (and just having it in a demon's possession might be changing her body).  It could also be a summoning focus... so it's better that a demon on Earth has it than one on a lower plane, otherwise she could be summoned there.

Costume-wise, she'd have a simple jumpsuit with a few magical accessories, bracelets, belt... but since that big slip-up, might be forced to have her suit unzipped in the front well past her navel.

I've put it in Extreme, I'll ask for it to be moved if the rest of the votes skew towards NC-Exotic.

The thread is here: https://elliquiy.com/forums/index.php?topic=218858.0

Please discuss any shared character backgrounds and teams there.  Thanks!

Okay, for setting I will probably go with our world, but 10 years in the future, and with superheroes having existed for as long as anyone can remember.  Probably rare, but with the world population boom, more focus on them (so fewer of them simply hide their powers and live a normal life), and so on, they are somewhat more common of late.  Still rare, but no longer unknown.  History would be more or less the same, but with the occasional inclusion of super powered people (who probably didn't influence history all that much for various reasons.).

I will try to choose a city and write up at least a little on the last 10 years when I have time.

NC-Exotic is more my speed, but I can tolerate Extreme as long as people don't expect me to be doing much on the Extreme end of the spectrum.

Edit: As for a concept, I think I'm gonna go with a gadgeteer. A little bit of Forge, a little bit of Tony Stark, and in a much cuter package. Wee teleport belts and personal defense shields!

I wouldn't expect a player to do anything they weren't interested in, it just may be in the threads is why I ask for votes.

Sounds good on the character front. :-)

Is there a glossary of terms around?  I'm not quite sure I get the difference between Exotic and Extreme yet... mostly-humanoid verses full anthros, tentacles and such?

If you hover over the names on the main page they show what the sections are for.

Extreme is: involving elements that may squick out even non-con fans (such as bestiality, bathroom play, and gore)

NC-Human is: that involve non-consensual acts (e.g., rape or forced sex), are played with a rules system and feature characters who are human in form or very near (e.g., elves)

NC-Exotic is: that involve non-consensual acts (e.g., rape or forced sex), are played with a rules system and include hermaphrodites (futa) and/or nonhumans (such as furries, beasts, tentacle monsters, etc.)

Unfortunately we are full at the moment and I don't think I could handle anymore players :-(  If you'd like, I'll let you know if someone drops.
