"Once upon a time there was a land called Emile. It was a shrinking land, beset and devoured at all sides by death and terror. As Undeath gnawed at the edges of the Emile, it forced all of it's inhabitants to flee to the center of the continent. Fate would have all the races stand as one as a bulwark against the dark forces arrayed against them.

But there was little space left for the refugees in the Center of Emile. Close quarters sparked conflict. Old racial tensions flared back to life. It would seem that the land would be undone from within.

The King acted radically. He changed numerous laws and set a different punishment for chaos and racial tensions; forced marriage. Although people could raise arms against each other, it was much harder to fight against family... at least without harming their matrimonially held hostage. There was much protest for many years and more than one failed rebellion, but the Undead were always out there, forcing tremendous sacrifice for the safety of the living. It became the way of life.

Now in Emile there was a poor girl and her father. She barely saw him since they had fled to the capital city. The desperate man seemed to do anything to keep his family fed, including stealing from the wealthy Devon family, his employer. The family head challenged the girl's father to a duel and killed him. According to law, one member of his family married into the Devon head.

But something was wrong. Her father would never steal! Perhaps someone in the Devon household set him up..."


This idea is a long term plot exploring a large polygamous family. The main plot will revolve around the girl and the head of the Devon, but other family members will get involved and we'll be playing multiple parts. Though I used a girl in the protagonist in the intro, the genders and even the races of the characters aren't important and up for discussion. The plot can be adapted for gothic modern or Sci-fi settings as well!
