It was a short story that was originally published on Butchers website, and later included in the anthology Side Jobs.

As I recall that was the first Dresden story he wrote in college.

Sweet Serenade:  You can totally play a character who owns a magical resources shop!  That sounds freaking awesome.  Unfortunately, I'm going to have to say no to the hiding from the White Council bit.  They could have been in trouble and are now under the doom of Damocles, but with what I have planned for the first episode of our game...I just can't permit it.

Mister Grimm

AndyZ: Haha, you should. Side Jobs is good read and has.... 11 stories I think? Most of them are set between the book, and I think one is told from Thomas' POV, while another is from Murphy's. But the short story is also still on his website too.

Crash: It might be? I think it was published after Blood Rites, but it could have been from his college days.

edit: actually, Semiautomagic was the first one he wrote, which was then retitled to Storm Front, the first book in the series.

And Crash get's a gold star.

Amelia is a physically weak changeling illusionist who refuses to seriously use any seelie magic.  She'd be no help on a quest like that.  She could have called in a favor to find the location of the troll for him though.  -shrugs-

Thank you. ;)

He wouldn't let Amelia come along anyway.  No way he would do anything to endanger her.  The location information would be unexpected and maybe she gets it for him without him knowing she was going to.

Quote from: Mister Grimm on July 22, 2014, 01:43:22 PM
Crash: Jacob could have helped, though if I recall correctly, Trolls were nasty pieces of work that took a lot to take down. Could have been paid to help, or made an Oath that requires that one day your character might have to help him with something.

AndyZ: In the short story Restoration of Faith, Harry encountered one that wanted to eat the girl he was escorted as toll to cross the bridge. So its likely.

That makes sense.  It would irk Jonas to no end to owe anybody anything but he would agree because he would need the help.

AndyZ: Trolls are nasty creatures but we have a connection with the boxing match so if you don't think Charity would be involved that is okay.  Charity would have had to talk Jonas into fighting the vamp but we can say she brought him to a match and when he saw the pain inflicted it would spur him to right the wrong.

Hmmm, well the whole purpose of the not being known was because people often overlook and just think she is a New Age junkie sort of person. Thus they do not believe there is any bit of talent there, and can often save her ass in situations where she might have to use her magic...

The reasoning I had behind it would be Node Magic is not exactly an approved form of magic (Node Magic is where you pull energy from Ley Lines and Nodes) to fuel your magic, it often burns out the user - most often die before they are 40 - and it is impossible for them to do magic using anything but Nodal energy... meaning if someone taints a Ley Line, the Practitioner is screwed.

SweetSerenade:  Well, black magic is forbidden.  Would node magic be a kind of black magic?  I don't remember reading about it...And if she has a store that serves the magical community, wouldn't the supernatural community be aware of her existence?

Crash: Sounds perfect.....and finish your profile already!  :P

Easily works.  First she tries to get him to do it, then when that doesn't work, she asks him just to come see it.  Then he sees the WCV humiliating these people through supernatural talents and then feeding on their despair, and steps up.

However, she also doesn't just kill just because.  She'll wound seriously badly if necessary, but if she's going to kill the troll, it'll be because it's eating people or similar.  She's also Extremely reticent to kill pure mortals in anything sort of self-defense.

Still, probably better to let you two have that connection ^_^

SweetSerenade, our connection would likely be Charity shopping at your place and finding out if it has anything worthwhile.  Charity probably wouldn't come back if she figured the owner was just a New Age junkie, though, unless the book she happened to get actually did have something decent.

She might be notably more powerful than people think she is and just deliberately fail the tests they give her.
It's all good, and it's all in fun.  Now get in the pit and try to love someone.

This works, I would totally be up for Sweetserenade rocking this.

SweetSerenade

Cerridwen does do her best not to use her abilities. She would have a back room, that would have real stuff in it. But as it is seen in the Dresden world there are some places that have this aspect, and it is run by a mortal. Cerridwen comes from a family with a lot of natural magics. Basically, her ancestor went batshit nuts, becuase Nodal magic CAN do that, and slaughtered a bunch of people (mind you her ancestor went nuts because her entire village had been slaughtered... but that is besides the point).

I would definitely be up for the "Purposefully Failing tests"; though, in the aspect that the Council thinks she is just a minor practicioner?

Bakemono Shiki RP(Lovely Siggy Layout is thanks to Amaris)

Sephora

Her ancestors actions would have no real effect on her.  And as for natural magics...well, all wizard bloodlines have that.  If you want to play her as pretending to be a focused practitioner, but is in reality a full fledged wizard; game on.  Go for it.  But I'm not sure about the special magic...

Ron Don Volante

FYI, we know of one practitioner at White Council who has purposely hidden their talent from the Wardens for very personal and valid reasons

The nodal magic is what makes my characters lifespan shorter, and has always been a very large part of what she is. She lives her life a certain way, because she knows each use of nodal magic makes her lifespan shorten.

I won't ask you to change a character that you've clearly put a lot of work into, but I'm uncomfortable with approving nodal magic.  You can ask everyone else here, I'm being cautious when it comes to power levels.  Would you be willing to design a different character, if that aspect is so intrinsic to who she is?

SweetSerenade

Cerri is the only character for Dresden that I have. XD

Creating brand new characters is something that takes my weeks to months, I apologize for wasting your time. I wish you all the best and hope you all have some awesome fun!

Okay I have Jonas's background mostly done.  I will post it tonight without the writing prompts when I get home tonight so you can take a look.

Alright, with that I am going to close character openings.  Unless you have already expressed an interest in making a character, consider the game locked.

I will make exceptions if people drop the game, or if you have a freaking amazing character concept/are a brilliant writer, but otherwise.....

Take a look around you folks, here are the people you'll be playing with.  ^_^

Edit:  Note, this does not mean that people whose character's are unfinished are approved yet.  This merely means I am no longer taking on additional players.

Reposting with bio.

Wieland "Will" Malvora
SEX: Lots

ORIENTATION: (Mostly) Straight

APPEARANCE: Will stands 6'0", with brown-black hair that can seem silver in the right light, and always seems to blend into the shadows. Because he is a White Court vampire, he is supernaturally attractive, looking like a cover model, with tanned skin owing to his distant Mediterranean ancestry. His slightly broader than average nose, slanted eyebrows and strong chin would look out of place by themselves, but together they form quite a sculpture.

FLAW: Despite being of House Malvora, Will is a lust-eater. This makes him an outcast amongst the Houses of the White Court. Raith sees him as a pathetic sycophant, Malvora sees him as a treasonous wretch, and Skavis views him as an amusing freak.
Decades ago, Will offended a wizard of the White Council, who cursed him so he can never feed on the same person twice.
Overconfidence: Perhaps due to his curse, Will has developed a habit of "playing with his food," sometimes engaging in excessive foreplay with his meals. This carries over to other aspects of his life. When Will gains the upper hand in a fight, he frequently cannot resist gloating, or otherwise goading a potential opponent. This generally comes back to bite him.

BIOGRAPHY: As per usual for scions of the White Court, Wieland Malvora attended an exclusive private school. He was a creepy child, giving off a The Omen vibe, due to his mother's instilment in him of the belief in frightening others. This put distance between himself and his peers, although he still managed to attract a group of hangers-on. At the age of seventeen, his powers manifested and he Fed upon them, killing one and terrifying two others beyond speech. Thus he became a full-fledged vampire.

As a member of House Malvora, he was naturally not expected to work. He idled away his days in the family mansions or penthouses, and at night fed upon the fear of mortals. Sometimes he and his siblings would put together their own little Hunger Games, turning hapless kine loose in a labyrinth on the grounds and then hunting them down one by one in a competition of sorts.

Everything changed when he began spending time with members of other Houses. House Raith held little attraction for him, being composed almost entirely of females, although he had occasional clandestine meetings with young Raith ladies where they would... pit their hungers against each other. He forged a bond with Arcturo Skavis, a vampire about his age. Both Lady Malvora and Lord Skavis disapproved of their time together, which naturally made it all the more fun. Sometimes they would "share a meal," taking turns alternately horrifying and disheartening a human to death. However, they met their match in a young woman stricken with a terminal illness. Her courage and hope in the face of imminent mortality were strong enough to repel both vampires, and burn Wieland so severely he could not feed for three days. During this time had nothing else to do but ponder, and his first meal after the drought led him to an epiphany: his kind were not apex predators, as his mother had always led him to believe, but parasites. This conclusion and the guilt that came with it were earth-shattering enough to put him off his feed, so to speak. His very nature could not allow him to swear off feeding entirely, so, seeking a lesser evil, he switched to lust as it was somewhat more of a "positive" emotion and he could feed on prey without terrifying or killing them (provided he did not drink too deeply).

He nearly became the laughingstock of the entire Court when his changed appetites became known. Were it not for tension between the White and Red Courts at the time, some agent of House Malvora would likely have ended him, but it was decided to keep him around for the sake of appearing strong. He was, after all, still a powerful vampire even if his choice of "food" made him openly mocked within the privacy of his own House, and regarded with detached curiosity or concealed scorn by the other Houses. His mother also had a soft spot for him and interceded on his behalf.

Arcturo, however, carried a grudge, and it was thanks to his machinations that Wieland found himself on the receiving end of an angry White Council wizard whom he had wronged in the past. This practitioner was not exceptionally powerful, but had a death curse potent enough to rob Will of the ability to feed on the same person more than once.

Thank you Wongbal!

Question:  Is Will still floating about in penthouses and the like?  Or has his change over to lust feeding turned that well dry?

Other thing to note, as we as a group have deemed the mesmerization to be a bit too nonconny--any use of it through your character is only going to be permitted on random throwaway npcs.  Your character is just going to have to use good old fashioned charm in order to screw the pants off of people.  Is that going to be an issue?

ElvenKitten

Been thinking about how to get round the white council stuff with Alexis, thinking she revealed status as a wizard to them but not her past.

Sephora

I'm trying to think as well.  It's a really fun concept, but with what I've got planned an active wizard hunt is troublesome.  Maybe Witchbane never got famous?  She killed wardens, but left no witnesses?  IE: No one knows that it was specifically one person killing them?  That would mean actually losing the nickname though.

Also you need to fill in information for Kate.

I haven't gotten to that part yet, but I was planning to have him work as a model/actor, moving around the country a lot to find new feeding grounds.

That's all good. I wasn't planning on him being a hypno-rapist or anything. I just figured he made everyone in his immediate vicinity mildly wet(/hard?).

Oh and also, hallo everybody! I love the Dresden Files with a slavering, slobbering, passionate loving love. My top six favourite characters not named Harry Dresen are (in no particular order): Waldo Butters, Mouse, Molly Carpenter, Joseph Listens-to-Wind, Michael Carpenter, and Nicodemus Archleone ("favourite" here meaning "hated with a fiery burning hateful hatred"). My favourite books in the series are Dead Beat, Skin Game, Ghost Story and Cold Days, and I love all the rest equally (except I'm not overly fond of Proven Guilty or Fool Moon).

I accept model/actor, but you will still be obliged to create a few character relationships and backgrounds.  Just like everyone else.

And would the 'making everyone in the vicinity mildly wet/hard'  be a permanent fix?  Because that's obviously not going to work.  :P  Or would he consciously be able to control it?  I'm fine with some basic influence to the point of, 'Can make people feel a bit horny' if everyone else is.

Well, I figure it's just a general sort of sexy vampire thing. As in when someone meets him for the first time, they find themselves attracted to him at first. He can't really control it. Of course, repeat exposure inures them to it unless he turns on the charm, so to speak.
