For J.R.R.Tolkien.

Those who cannot see, seek their sight. Powerful beings; men, orcs, elves and dwarfs alike, sought to overthrow the other. Blind were they that their lust for power entitles the dark lord Sauron to the gift of control. Seven rings were forged for them. Elves, dwarves, men, all former warriors now seduced by the harsh powers of the rings granted to them. But one ring stood above all else. One ring for no man, elf, dwarf or orc to bear. The one ring for the dark lord Sauron; The one ring to rule them all. Through centuries of war, this ring was lost by its bearer. Slain, the ring's power fell into the greedy hearts of men. They sought out to destroy it, finding only that it destroyed them. The ring had since then disappeared from the eyes of the world, in the very same caverns in which it were crafted: Mount Doom.

Centuries later in the merry, hobbit run town of the shire, the young hobbit Frodo Baggins comes into possession of the ring through his uncle, Bilbo Baggins. One night, he wore the ring, an act that would change the fate of middle earth as we knew it. He saw through his eyes what no man should ever see: The eye of Sauron. A wizard by the name of Gandalf the Grey, sought out the help and council of the elves. The council devised a fellowship, consisting of a ranger, and elf, a dwarf, a rider of Gondor, and four hobbits. Guiding their path would be Gandalf, the wisest of the quest. The quest for Mordor, and the fires of mount Doom where the ring would be destroyed once and for all. Along their travels, they come across a small village, one in which you reside. Your people have welcomed them and they invite the willing to join their quest. Will you join them in a quest to throw the veils of death over all evil? Or will you stay with your town, praying against the inevitable destruction to be brought forth by the known forces of Sauron?

Name: Evelyn Draucher
Race: Human
Age : 19
Appearance: Tall with blonde hair, a seemingly fragile structure as portrayed by her clothing, hiding quite a bit of muscle and her knowledge of the blade. With blue eyes and a charming face, Evelyn has been asked by her parents to marry many times, all of which she turned down as arranged marriage was not one of her views, though her parents may say otherwise.

Weapons: A longsword and a shield.
Burden: A week's ration of food, a wineskin, a whetstone, two changes of clothes, a mirror, a small knife, a dagger and a pair of flint stones.

Bio: Born and raised in the small village of Kandar, near Bree, Evelyn was raised to marry, forced to learn to cook and clean after a man. She secretly watched her brothers train for war and sought their wisdom of the blade. Being their sister, they happily obligued, teaching her in secret until the day she was asked to marry. She turned down the offer and got into a scuffle with her parents. She became a pariah to the family and continued training of swordplay on her own as her brothers had been forbidden to teach her how to use a sword any further. Her hopes of escaping the village however, came true on the day the fellowship travelled through the town.

Have you read the books? : Yes - GM
Have you seen the movie? : Yes - GM [all three too! :) gosh I miss those days :P]

Abilities: Evelyn has an advanced knowledge in swordplay. She can wield a sword well and has a higher chance than most men in combat, simply because of quicker reaction times.

BrokenMirror

I have a question before I join this, are you using the lord of the Rings role play books at all?  And do you mind if a player has only read a couple of the books?

applesauce

A couple of the books are fine, and I am not using the lord of the rings rp book. I'm going by the original storyline.

Kiric Rand

If you guys would like, I can jump in and make a character. Sounds fun after all.

Name: Lethran Pellarhil.
Age: 32.
Race: Human.
Appearance: A well-muscled man of 32. A head of dirty blonde hair adorns his head. Aside from his handsome features, the only standout attributes would be his various and intricate tattoos.
Weapons: A short-sword, dagger, bow with a handful of arrows typically used for hunting.
Burden: Substantial rations, a couple of extra pairs of clothing, sharpening stones, a single pot and bowl.
Bio: Lethran was born in Southern Gondor, many miles from the capital city of Minas Tirith. He was raised in a small, nameless village and spent most of his time in the processes of farming, herding, and other duties required of those who live off the land. This simple life was short lived, seeing as roving bands of orcs from Mordor were prone to plundering these most empty lands between the two metropolitan areas of Minas Tirith and Dol Amroth. In one such attack, his family was slaughtered, save his sister. The pair of them were whisked off to Minas Tirith to relative safety. Here, Lethran thrived. His new found vigor for combat made him perfect for an apprentice ship with the soldiers of Gondor. Years passed and his skills only increased. During a visit with his sister to Esgaroth, his sister was tragically killed in a goblin raid. This was the proverbial nail in the coffin, pushing Lethran to become a career military man. And so he did, spending his years in combat or training for combat. However, shortly after his 30th year, the man suddenly retired. His yearning for violence suddenly ended and he quickly left the city to begin a life once again living off the land in a small village, until the Fellowship arrived.

Have you read the books?: [Yes]
Have you seen the movie?: [Yes]

Abilities: Swift, agile swordplay.

Bio: Varis is an orphan, his last name long forgotten. As a young teenager he had found his way to Rohan, serving as a scout and ranger for the Horselords. Eep, I still haven't found the time to create my character. I'll try to get that done later. =X

EDIT: Eh, I'm just wondering if it's okay for me to make a male character? Or if it's a good idea. There's already an even mix of male and female now. I just thought male would be more fitting into the LotR setting.

Male it is! They'd be more inclined to take a male anyway as you said, by the setting.

minerva7790

Name: Thoronur (lit. 'eagle-fire') of Lorien
Age: only about 500; looks to be in his early 20s
Race: Elf
Appearance: (I can't draw, so I'll describe) Shoulder-length silvery-blond hair crowns the head of this elf-lord. Thoronur wears his hair straight down, with small braids near his ears, as befits an elf of his status. Under his trimmed eyebrows, his slanted-eyes are amber. Like most elves, his complexion is pale, and his frame is tall and thin. Thoronur wears light leather armour over a beige tunic and pants, usually covered with a dark grey cloak. He wears a ring on his left hand too. Slung on his back is his sturdy bow and a quiver of arrows that never seems to run out. At his left side, he caries two light curved blades with elven script carved into the hilt.
Weapons: A bow and quiver of arrows, two curved blades of elven design.
Burden: Water skin, lembas rations, bedroll, a mess tin for cooking and eating, and a wooden flute. Shampoo and conditioner.
Bio: War is upon Middle Earth, and yet all the his people can think of is flee over the sea. This war is the human's war, they say. Disgusted by the mentality of his people, Thoronur often leaves home on long journeys, hunting orc and gathering news of the war. With his skill in arms trained from young, and his knowledge of herblore, Thoronur is able to survive fairly well alone in the wild. When he is home, he tries to persuade his people that this war concerns them too. But his hope of persuading his kin to take up arms is failing. This journey, Thoronur is determined not to return home. If the elves would not fight, then he would have to turn to humans, and the other Free Peoples of Middle Earth as allies.

Have you read the books?: Yes, including the Hobbit and bits of The Silmarillion.
Have you seen the movie?: Yes!

Abilities: Apart from the agility and dexterity of his people, Thoronur has some skill in manipulating the elements, as his people does, using (one of) the elven language, Sindarin.

Umm, hope the ability is okay, since elves already have some abilities innate to their race.

Haha, and that's good too. I don't suppose Thoronur would approve, but then, he is already doing something unconventional, so he would understand eventually.

Sometimes has a lightweight helm with metal cross but leather between the spaces.

Anyone playing a magic-using character, and is there room for one more?

Anyone playing a magic-using character, and is there room for one more?

Uhh, pardon me, but I'm a little bit of a stickler for canon. I don't think there was ever any magic in LotR. The elves (of which my character is one of) are good at enhancing ordinary items (like Galadriel's cloaks for the Fellowship) and control the elements (like Elrond did at the Ford of Bruinen). Things that Samwise Gamgee calls 'elf-magic'. And the wizards we see in the books are actually of the race of Maiar, or lesser gods, as I tend to think of them. Their 'magic' is supernatural power.

So, if you mean 'elf-magic', then since my character is an elf, then yes, I am playing a magic-using character. Magic is not his biggest strength, though. So perhaps you could think of creating an elf character that is more adept at controlling the elements? Just my humble opinion... What does our GM think?

Did I say Wizard, there are magic items like rings other than the Rings of Power as noted in the film.

I'm thinking a powerful ring but not the biggies, her talent is attunement to that item.

The Forestbraids, the Rings of Nature's Friendship

Description undecided and will have an elven name this ring was forged with a sister ring to beheld by two a bearer from the race of men aand one of the race of elves to allow the wearer to become one with nature as its friend be that beast or plant or surviving (magic effects help one survive in the wilds as any skilled ranger), the ring allows communication with but not command of animals and plants (if intelligent like Ents or living trees). But it does cause strong empathy and friendship with the wearer and a sense of the wilderness they are in aidingin their duty. The wearer is bound to it and is obligated to assist the wild places when harmed and be a Warden of the forests and natural places. This doesn't demand combat however but they are bound to try any means to do their duty. The bearers are chosen by the ring and well thought of by rangers and elven-folk.

minerva7790

Sorry, I'm just pointing out that Tolkien almost never used the word 'magic', unless it was in speech. The Hobbits, for example, tended to think of elves as magical. The Rings of Power would be a fine example of the elves' ability to imbue objects with unnatural properties, I think.

But as I say, I'm a stickler for canon. It's entirely up to the GM, applesauce. It's not entirely impossible for someone to have a ring with certain 'magical' properties. Maybe a family heirloom, or something given to your character by an elf as a token of friendship?

Again, just my opinion. I apologise if I am overstepping the line. *bows*

There are wizards in LOTR. Gandalf the Gray was a wizard. So there is "magic" in this world.

minerva7790

Hmm, yes, as I said, 'wizards' like Gandalf and Saruman are of the race of the Maiar. They're akin to lesser gods, which is where their power comes from. It's not the kind of magic that is conventional in most fantasy books. You'll never see Gandalf chanting an incantation or brewing a potion.

RubySlippers

He is right Wizards were a small and elite group of beings immortal and in human male form.

Elves have magical powers, so do the powerful divine forces and Sauron and some of his servants, Wraiths.

But items of magic did exist which I'm thinking a young human woman just chosen to bear the ring of men of the two rings, by the ring. But she would have no other skills to start so will be wanting to learn fighting and other useful skills. To counterbalance her being a Ringbearer of a powerful ring but not a Ring of Power. Since in the movie Gandalf stated in the Fellowship of the Ring there are many magic rings, I assume other items. She will be just ,training, but have a really nice ring.

minerva7790

Yeah, I do like your story, RubySlippers. And I do agree, it is possible for magical items like weapons or jewelery to exist. Elves were expert craftsmen (having had years to hone their skill), and I wouldn't be surprised if they put a little of their power in their crafts.

Again, sorry for being so picky about staying true to the books. I just feel that it won't do Tolkien justice to have it otherwise.

Haha yay for Tolkien's work! Yeah, 'magic' in the Middle Earth is uncommon and unlike in other universes like, say, DnD or Harry Potter. And that's why I would be wary about calling it magic. I'm glad we're on the same page, though. ;)

I know that everyone has started, but my interest in this group is very high. I would be interested in making a character and joining the game. I'll start working on it without permission, but I'll only post it once i have the word.

I would prefer to have a female, but it was rare for women to appear in the book as travelers or fighters. A male character will be easier for me to make anyway, so I'm going to be working on a woman. I'll wait for the GM's instructions, please let me know if i should rather make a man, or if i should make a character at all.

Thanks, I felt like that was a confusing  post
Apologies and Absences

Lypiphera

I would also like to play a female: A dunedain ranger if possible (Although I understand Varis is currently a ranger and wouldn't want to tread on any toes). I could perhaps join the party later on rather than now everyone has started if thats easier too.

As for so many females joining personally I think that was a reflection of the time in which Tolkien wrote rather than a reflection on the world of middle earth itself. He was quite bold for his time in having strong female characters like Arwen and Eoywn and never once mentions that the characters think of women as 'inadequate' in that regard. I believe the main argument behind Eoywn riding to war wasn't that she didn't know how to fight but that she was needed alive to help carry on her house's name. But hey ho its up to the GM :)!

Let me know if you can accept another ranger, or another female, as i'd love to play!

RubySlippers

By the way my character could use a sister or brother or other party to see to her education and protection since she has zero combat skills or real training, just is a Ringbearer of a ring that has alot to learn.

Malgriff

I'll be your brother or sister ruby, I dont mind which :3

minerva7790

Since your character is an elf-friend, Ruby, I think my character Thoronur will naturally look out for her. ;)

Name: Thalia Tristos

Age: 17

Race: Human

Appearance: https://elliquiy.com/wiki/File:18779801.jpg  -she practicing her swordplay-
Generally she appears feminine, rustic in full garb and equipment and wears the Ring on her right hand on the index finger. Its unique a weaving of leaves and vines, with the race stone of man and elf a green sapphire for elven folk smaller than the ruby for the race of men and an inscription on the inner band - Forestbraide of Man, Warden of the Nature and the Wild is the Bearer (in elven). When relaxing tends to be nearly or totally nude however she is a free spirit and her running in the wilderness in some flowers and enjoying herself is a pleasure to her.

Weapons: Elven Curved Longblade, Knife, Composite Shortbow

Burden: Leather Armor, Backpack, Quiver with 20 Arrows, Lembas Bread in Leaves and a Leather Wrap Enough for 7 Days (she tends to forage with the help of the ring and local animals for food this is her emergency provisioning), Nice Travelors Outfit, Ladies Grooming Kit (traveler friendly), Waterskin and Coins (for the things she needs traveling in the relams of men).

Bio: Born in the North a commoner of sensitive and caring nature she spent much of her time in the woods and among the elves that found her, refreshing. Her father was a ranger one of the long lived ones and her mother is a healer of no small skill. She was visiting her godmother an elvenwoman when the dormant ring awoke in her presence and slide towards her, where she donned it. Word spread of the rings choice and was widely well-regarded and the wearer is deemed an Elf-Friend. Sadly besides the ring she has no combat skills and rangering skills an deficite she is now working on. She knows the common tongue of men and the tongue of elves at a good level for a human (like a teenager).

Have you read the books?: [Yes, The Hobbit]
Have you seen the movie?: [Yes]

Abilities: Ringbearer of the Lesser Ring the Forestbraid of Man and Chosen by the Ring*

* Is one of two rings one held by an elf lord Lortherian an ancient elf and one by a=the raceof men (hers). Both grant similar powers a aura of friendship and kinship with nature, the ability to talk to animals of all sorts who are inclined to ve friendly, an innate understanding of the wilds and an understanding of the health of the wilds where the wearer resides out for at least a league. The ring has like the other the powers to aid plants in growth and health, keeps the wearer warm wearing lighting garments and cooler based on the environment, casts a rich moonlight and minor magics like healing of modest quality - its not immediate however. There is a price the bearer isalso bound to defend the wilds and nature but any means available to them that doesn't have to be direct combat and most are diplomats as much as warriors but based on the bearers skills, the rings are wise not to risk themselves unreasonably in this binding with the wearer.
