Creation is vast, from the chill winds of the north, to the deserts of the south, it’s peoples and faiths are as diverse as it’s climates, it’s gender rolls as diverse as it’s morals.

Ultimately, the Chosen of the Sun, Moon, and Five Maidens are exactly the ones to say what is right and wrong, just as it is their duty to not only rule Creation, but rule wisely and well.  But to the men who walk the deserts of the south in their silken robes, to the women who walk a pace behind them in their scant garb, rich jewels, and often slave collars, flushed with pride at the riches of their beloved that they display, right, wrong, and wisdom are far away concepts.  Morality is learned from the culture they grew up in, the culture of the South.  To rule, conquer, and protect the South from the soul eating Raksha, the greedy dragon blooded of the Dynasty, the avarice of rival Paragon, and the all consuming entropy of the undead is a more immediate goal by far than ruling with morality or ethics.

This is not the story of good kings and wise queens…  At least, not any time soon.  This is a story of men who conquer, men who protect.  This is a story of women who love them, wives and slaves, and yet women who overcome their station enough to fight beside their lords and masters with the power of the Chosen.

This is a story of the Exalted.

Of Righteous Devils.

And a story of an ancient ghost, a guide to the Underworld…

The Torchbearer.

I've been hoping than an Exalted game would show up while I was here, though it appears I didn't have to wait too long. I love the South, particularly the cultural aspects that it looks like you've already brought up. You can count me in, new as I am, and hopefully we'll get a few more!

DarkWhisper

Wow that was good,I couldn't get my eyes away from it. I haven't got to do the game yet ,but had a good post for it for some reason. xD

You know this sounds very intriguing, but sadly I don't even know what Exalted is...want to learn about though, if anyone is interested. I love learning new games.

I can certainly help beginers.

It's more a matter of wear to start.

Chronosmaker, in this case, imagine a world where the 1,001 arabian nights, the original, were directed at by day by Miyazaki, and by night by alternatily Boris Valejo and the producer of the anime Fencer of Minerva with special guiest appearences by the man who did Legend of the Overfiend.

Okay, so maybe my references got a bit obscure there.  Exalted is an anime fantasy game, rather than a Tolkien inspired fantasy game.  THe South is a region that draws inspiration from the arabian nights and also from Africa.  But in both cases from the 'classical world'.  However, it is most defiantly not a place of hard and fast cultural analogues.

Your charecter was probably an extraordinary person in a slightly over the top reality, who nonetheless didn't have any extraordinary or blatantly supernatural powers 'til the day that the Unconqered sun touched him or her and said, "here you go, a portion of my limitless power, the power you need to do the imposible, how will you change the world?"

I picked up the main Exalted book a while ago, haven't even had a chance to use it yet, though. If you don't mind another beginner, put me down as definatly interested ^_^.

The Chosen of the Sun, Moon, and Five Maidens are essentially a bunch of thugs created to beat up their employers' parents, killing and imprisoning them, so that the kids could spend the rest of eternity smoking the parents' stash of godly crack.

"Harem-gathering conquerers" is, morally speaking, probably a step up for them.

Muse

*chuckles*  Certainly an easy point to argue from the omniscient stand point.

Well, sure.  "I am dazzled by Solar mind control," or perhaps "I have no idea that my Solar masters just killed 20 million people in a military training exercise" are much more realistic viewpoints in the context of the game world.

But it's a bit pointless to argue from those.

I'm working on my PC but 333 EXP is a bit mind numbing to burn through.
