Edit/Note: Deadline! I have made my final PC selections & am not currently recruiting.

Making a recruitment thread based on some feedback here! Preference will be given to those I noticed in that thread, as a heads up. I think I am willing to GM a game of Changeling the Dreaming. To play, please read the worldbuilding thread here!

To pull from one important post, though, this is what you need to know to play:

  • You need this book. I'm using the 20th anniversary rules. I might allow content from previous edition books, if I own them, but if I do not own a book that you want to use content from, the answer will always be 'no.'
  • Create a character as per the rulebook. You do not start with any extra EXP.
  • You do not have to have your PC originally be from the Duchy of Storms; they could have just arrived! If anything, this creates a great hook for me to give your character something to do. Or if you want your PC to be from the Duchy, that is also okay.
  • Starting date for the game, IC-time, is January 1st, 2018, if that helps to know for creating your character.
  • Massive patience with me, please? I have literally never run/played this before, but I am eager to have it go well. I am always open to positive feedback in PMs about ways to make things better. But please do be patient with me as I adjust and learn the game properly! You'll notice the NPC section in the world building thread was really sparse! I hope the populate this setting with characters tied to your PCs!
  • All characters should be 18+, please.
  • LGBTQA content welcome.
  • You should be open to crossgender writers and willing to write with them (Lords writing female characters, Ladies writing male characters, Lieges writing characters that don't match their gender identity, Legates writing any character gender). This is for my own sanity for a small group & as a Liege myself. It's hard for me to cater to RL writer gender preferences in a small group game, so I won't be. It's nothing personal.
  • All Kithain and Nunnehi types are playable. If you want to play something else, you'll have to inquire, but I'm likely to say no. I think I'm being quite open with character-types I'm allowing as-is.
  • I don't have a set minimum posting rate or posting length requirement, but if you vanish on me for two weeks without notice, I'll mark you inactive or ask you to step out of the game. I reserve the right to take control of your character as an NPC if this happens. If you are not okay with this, I don't advise playing. I would be very respectful of your character and would just be looking to write them out of any ongoing scenes, just for continuity's sake.
  • Erotic content will be kept to its own thread. I haven't decided on a rating for this game. I was thinking perhaps Bondage - Exotic small groups? Either way, I'll ask people tag erotic content accordingly if there's something in there that might squick another player.
  • All dice rolls must be made with Elliquiy's Dicebot and sent to my ID, which is 42233.
  • I encourage an atmosphere of civility and respect at all times. If you have a dispute with another player, please try to handle it privately. If you can't resolve it, please PM me.
  • I will use a post tagging system for IC threads. All posts will need to use this tagging system, if only because at times not every PC will be with the group! :)
  • Character sheets should use the format I've laid out and be submitted to me via the interest check. :)
I will keep recruitment open two weeks or until I feel I have a 'full' roster of accepted characters. I'm roughly looking for about 4 - 6 players. I might be able to be flexible on those numbers, depending on a few circumstances.

The character sheet format is available in the world building thread. Please submit sheets to this interest check thread.

Feel free to ask any questions you might have. If you run into any trouble with the BBCode for the sheet, just holler, I'm sure I can help! I'm incredibly new at GMing this or even playing it, so questions are always okay. If anything, it means I'll have to look up info and learn something!

The setting's not really to my personal taste, but as someone that's run a lot of Changeling, I figured it would still be worth a quick note before you crash into this in game instead and get headaches:

I would recommend from my own experience to keep a bit of an eye as a GM on the whole unleashing power that was added in C20, and just as advice to players themselves to show some personal restraint with it to better sustain the lifespan of a game. It wasn't the most firmly thought out idea and various examples of its use from the book range from everything from using an entire neighbourhood as a weapon, to resurrecting the recently dead, to time travel into the relatively immediate past, to removing the memory of a day from the entire world, to group teleportation to wherever, to what reads like instakilling people. It impacts the real world just fine at that.

Basically stuff can devolve into "whosoever successfully unleashes first wins at whatever thing they wanted to happen within the thematic bounds of their unleashing ability", it carries some drawbacks, but they're not exactly enough to really discourage going for it, and even "an uncontrolled success" can verge on "well, hold on while I rethink the plotline.." all in a roll. C20 also removed countermagic, so even theoretically resisting it is kinda out the window.

Like I can see why they did it? It certainly makes Changelings considerably more powerful than before, and in theory the idea is that it's a risky yet mighty option to briefly touch the ancient fae power of old and what have you. The execution however has problems and there's not really going to be much in the way of guidelines for it until the C20 player's guide, by my understanding. On the one hand they give an example of using it for some desperate risky escape mass teleportation thing. On the other hand... all the other stuff I noted. It's not exactly clear what if any limitations there are beyond "the themes of the power you are unleashing". And yet if you outright remove it you kinda rob the game of something the writers wanted to play a considerable role in it.

Essentially it's just something that before any given game starts, the players and GM should have a bit of a talk on how they see it and how they're cool to see it go in play. Otherwise it can lead to arguments in game about any given unleashing.

Muse

  I'd love to play, Blythe.

I'll finish reading up tomorow and pitch some basic ideas around in here.  :)

I'm quite open to the opinions of players interested in joining about how to handle Unleashings of course, but I'm likely to work with players to ensure an Unleashing 'fits' a given scene. I'm sure everyone will want to tell a great story and will want to be sure things fit or work, and I know I trust players to want to work together and not abuse Unleashings. I generally trust folks to be mature. (From a GM standpoint, I don't mind periodically having to be like "well, let me rethink some plotline." That's the way the dice roll sometimes! I'm good at improv, at any rate!)

And Thorne, Muse, and Eobelle, happy to see you all here in the thread! Glad that you are all interested. Please do feel free to toss around concepts or ideas, and don't hesitate to ask questions if you have them. (I'm always willing to do my best to answer! Just means I gotta read through more of this lovely book!  ;D )

OMG, I love this setting! I was thinking of a martial artist/stripper Leanhaun Sidhe... probably has a massive crush on Gabriella Cox too.  I'm thinking she came to the duchy of storms relatively recently SPECIFICALLY because the wanted to meet Gabriella and fight by her side.

*Gently touches the thread*

I would have to aquire the book and have a look as I have not done changeling before but have been real interested in it

Blythe

Hooray, more interest!

And newcomers to the system are totally welcome. I myself am new to it, so it'd be super hypocritical if I wasn't open to others new to it. Just means people get to learn along with me. ^^;

Nadir

I am thinking about mebbe a pooka

though I am still reading about all the new things~

I am sort of interested in the Sluagh *shifty eyes* quiet goth

Pooka & Slaugh would fit just fine in this sort of game. :)

I have a Seelie-ish Redcap that I would love to take out for a spin again. He would definitely not be a local.

Colour me interested.

Birthright:
Shapechanging — All pooka have an affinity with a particular animal. This is always a natural animal, never a mythological one. This animal affects her appearance and personality, and she is able to shapeshift into the animal at will. If completely alone, a pooka can shapechange for free, but if another changeling or enchanted mortal is present the change costs one Glamour. A pooka can never shift into an animal when being observed by a mundane mortal. Shifting back from animal form is always free and can be done at any time (again, as long as the pooka is unobserved by mortal eyes).

Confidante — Even complete strangers often spill their guts to a pooka. This ability of getting people to open up and talk, even about their darkest secrets, is an innate talent common to all pooka. Each has his own way of going about it, but the end result is the same. Some put people off balance with mixed insults and compliments, others rapid fire questions so fast that the target loses track of what is being said, and some are just so darned cute that no one can resist them.
Once, during a conversation, a pooka’s player may make an opposed Perception + Empathy (or Subterfuge, player’s choice) roll resisted by the target’s Willpower, to get the answer to a question. The number of successes determines how many questions the pooka can have answered. The target can also spend Willpower to resist this effect; each point of Willpower cancels one of the pooka’s successes.

Frailty:
Untruths: Perhaps the greatest con the pooka have pulled is making everyone believe that they never tell the truth. Under most circumstances a pooka can speak the truth as long as its mixed with lies, half-truths, and exaggerations. The trouble comes when a pooka is asked a direct question. A pooka who is asked a direct question must answer with a falsehood. If he wishes to answer truthfully the player must make a Willpower roll (difficulty 8) and spend a point of Willpower.

Merits & Flaws

Merits

Voice of a Songbird (2pt. Merit) The satyrs say your voice could charm apples from the trees. You have perfect pitch and can sing a cappella without missing a single note or going off key. Even when only speaking, your voice has a seductive quality that attracts people to you. Whenever you make a roll that involves inspirational speaking or singing, you are at a –2 difficulty.
Master Craftsman (3pt. Merit) When designing, building, or repairing something, the difficulty of your rolls is reduced by two. Additionally, you require three fewer successes on any extended rolls required when working on large or complex projects.

Flaws
Curiosity (2pt. Flaw) You’re a naturally curious person, your curiosity easily overriding your common sense. To resist temptation, make a Willpower roll. The difficult varies based on the temptation; difficulty 5 for simple things like, “I wonder what’s in the armoire,” but difficulty 9 for things like, “I wonder why young men keep going missing around the baron’s freehold. I’ll just slip in and check it out.”
Short Fuse (2pt. Flaw) The slightest provocation against you or one of your close companions compels you to lash out with fists, feet, or whatever comes to hand. When incited, you must make a Willpower roll to compose yourself, with the difficulty decided upon by the Storyteller based on the severity of the insult.
Changeling’s Eyes (1pt. Flaw) Your eyes are a startling color, maybe emerald green, violet, or yellow. This is a sign you are a changeling, recognizable to those who know the ancient lore. (Molten Gold colored)

Freebie Points:

Apperance: 5pts
Charisma: 5pts
Streetwise: 2pts
Freehold: 1pt
Resources: 1pt

Personality: Happy, bubbly, and at times a little incoherent. Lilisa embraces her Coyote heritage, or at least claims she does, and then makes up exactly what that "heritage" means. Quick of wit, fleet of foot, and amazingly strong for such a wiry girl. She tends to have trouble ignoring curious little things going on around her, and Fiercely protective of her friends and family. Her second greatest joys is working her little forge crafting jewelry and trinkets in the real world, weapons and armor in the Fae world. Her Absolute favorite is exploring to find materials to craft these items, even if its just going to local market and bartering.

History: Lilisa Langly is a Pooka of some minor renown, mainly in how she tends to tell stories that some find unbelievable even for a pooka, but a good note towards her work in jewelry making in the real world, and construction of Chimerical objects in the Fae world. Claiming she is the daughter of a Troll, and the daughter of the Nez Perce god Coyote, she is a well noted crafts person for her work. She moved to Oklahoma recently after inheriting a small house holding a tiny freehold in lieu of payment from a noble that commissioned her for a special suit of armor and arms. Having packed up her tiny shop and few items she arrives in town with eye set for adventure..

Accompanying her is her dog, a giant melanistic Tibetan Mastiff (Tsang-Khyi) she calls Woofs (due to the fact his actual name, Shuck, causes some Fae discomfort and nervousness). A giant stoic beast that endures her shenanigans, provided she is generous with table scraps, ear scratches, and playing with the hose.

Let me look up your critter question and get back to you soon!

'Freehold' Background is called 'Holdings' in C20--might want to edit to fix that. ^^

Squee! And Fixed!

Side note:

The boy who cried wolf was a pooka. Wolf pooka to be precise. He kept looking in the river while watching the sheep and saw his ears and tail and everything, and would call to the village to warn them of a wolf, and each time they got angry and punished him and wouldnt feed him, until he got so hungry the wolf took over and he ate the sheep, at which point the village punished him heavily, and he learned to not tell the truth as it will get you hurt...

Hmmm. The book does not say, but I'm super open to this idea, if only because I love the idea of a fae-doggo.

Given that the book said Autumn People could even be enchanted with enough work, I really feel that adorable doggo is not too far-fetched. We just might have to stat Woofs and do a bit of flavor changing for any bestowments Woof has.  :D

I'll get a PM sent your way some time today with a rough draft of Woof's stats. :)

Though to be clear, I haven't accepted anyone into the game formally just yet (too early). I won't be selecting my final roster until two weeks is fully up or until I see enough sheets that I want for a full party. ^^

Birthright:
Unearthly Beauty — Sidhe stand out in a crowd due to their beauty and regal bearing. Sidhe receive two additional dots of Appearance, even if this brings that rating above 5. When they invoke the Wyrd (p. 259), this beauty becomes overpowering. If a sidhe invokes the Wyrd in the presence of a character, the player must roll Willpower (difficulty 8). If that roll fails, the character can only stare in awestruck wonder at the sidhe for one turn for each dot of the sidhe’s Appearance.

Noble Bearing — Sidhe carry a quiet dignity at all times. Cantrips designed to humiliate them or make them look foolish automatically fail (that does not prevent cantrips from harming them, of course, they just don’t lose their poise when it happens). Sidhe cannot botch Etiquette or Politics rolls.

Frailty:
Curse of Banality — While the commoner kiths have learned to make their peace with the mortal world and live within it, the Arcadian sidhe still live with their minds and hearts in the Dreaming. As such, they are even more susceptible to Banality. Each point of Banality a sidhe would receive becomes two.

House Boon
The Muses are unnaturally charismatic. Leanhaun receive a free dot of Charisma, even if this takes them above 5. A Muse can also focus the full force of her charms on one person; all Social rolls involving that individual are at –1 difficulty, as are any rolls to gather Glamour involving that person. A Leanhaun can only target one individual this way per scene.

House Flaw
House Leanhaun members age rapidly when denied access to fresh mortal Glamour. Each week a Leanhaun does not gain Glamour from a Dreamer, she effectively ages one year. Glamour gained from Reverie or Rapture reverses such aging at a rate of 1 year for every 5 points gained, while Glamour from Ravaging cancels one year per point gained, and Glamour from Rhapsody restores 5 years per point. Revelry does not restore youth at all. Note that a Muse cannot become younger than her actual age by infusion of Glamour; any “excess” rejuvenation is lost. This aging carries over to the mortal seeming, meaning Leanhaun must monitor their Glamour acquisition carefully to avoid arousing suspicion.

This unnatural aging toll is suspended for Leanhaun living in freeholds or the Dreaming, and does not apply to those who have yet to experience their Chrysalis or whose fae seemings are currently slumbering (such as from chimerical death or being permanently Undone). Of course, spending a lot of time in freeholds or the Dreaming holds problems of its own, but sometimes a desperate Leanhaun finds it necessary to stave off advancing age.

Merits & Flaws

Merits
Double-Jointed/1pt. Merit/You’re unusually supple. Reduce the difficulty of any roll involving body flexibility by two. Squeezing through a tiny space is one example of a use for this Merit.

Perfect Balance/3pt. Merit/Whether through constant training or inherited skill, your sense of balance is akin to that of a circus performer or bird on a wire. It’s very unlikely you’ll ever fall during your life. You may trip, but you’ll always catch yourself before you fully lose your footing or handhold. This Merit functions for such actions as tightrope walking, crossing ice, and climbing mountains. All difficulties involving such feats are reduced by three.

Sex Appeal/3pt. Merit/You put it down to your looks and charm, but the dark truth is you have a dangerous, and perhaps unconscious, level of control over your pheromones. Your sexiness and sensuality attracts lovers to you like moths to a flame. You are the irresistible center of attention at any gathering. All rolls where sexual attraction matters have the difficulty reduced by three. This Merit cannot be used to seduce someone lacking a baseline of sexual attraction to the character.

Blessing of Atlas/5pt. Merit/Remarkable among trolls and seen as a true miracle among other kiths, the Blessing of Atlas permanently raises your Strength by one, and raises the potential maximum Strength rating by one. You’re only slightly larger than your fellows, but defined as if carved of marble. Should it become known by others you possess this Merit, you’ll be expected to act the hero or be feared as a budding warlord.

Faerie Eternity/1pt. Merit/After you went through your Chrysalis, you had a birthday, and then another, and then another. Strangely, however — you didn’t seem to be growing or getting older. You’re touched with a vestige of the immortality that was the birthright of all fae. As long as your fae seeming is active, you will age at one-tenth that of a normal human or changeling and remain a childling. Should your fae seeming be permanently destroyed, or should you retreat into Banality, you begin to age normally.

Flaws
Changeling’s Eyes/1pt. Flaw/Your eyes are not only a startling color, but they change based on the light you are in, like alexandrite.  In candle or incandescent light they are a purple/red, while in daylight they are a jewel-like blue/green. This is a sign you are a changeling, recognizable to those who know the ancient lore.

Geas/3pt. Flaw/You are under a ban never, ever to seek retribution/recompense for non-consensual sex.  If anyone ever rapes you, you cannot even refer to it as such, or change your behavior towards you attacker in any way that would punish them.  You came under this ban after a poorly executed blackmail scheme with a powerful sidhe noble. The scheme was not made public, but he extracted this geas and an oath from you in lieu of a duel that most certainly would have ended in your chimerical death.

Oath/3pt. Flaw/You are under and Oath to always dress exceedingly sexily and provocative.  This usually means that most of her body must be exposed (or under completely sheer fabric that shows off her form).  Dressing conservatively or frumpily would violate this oath.  Her tits and ass are easily seen in just about everything she wears, shirt skirts with no underwear are common, or if she is wearing underwear, it is usually as overwear and only barely covers anything, if at all.  Whatever she wears, it is tiny for its type.  if she wears a bikini, it must be a microbikini that only covers her clit and nipples, if it is a dress it maybe covers her ass and pussy is you squint real hard and think of England.  In any regard

Treasures

Treasure/3pt./A series of six silver captive-ball labia rings that causes the character’s presence and appearance to be inhumanly captivating and compelling.  Appearance may expressly be used for most Manipulation and Charisma rolls against someone in your presence. (summer 3).

Treasure/3pt./A white gold capture ball clitoral hood ring inscribed with γνῶθι σεαυτόν, that allows the bearer to know their own true name (Saining 3).

Treasure/2pt./A pair of captive ball nipple rings that, when worn, give the character a mystical, alluring aire.  The character becomes freshly bathed, teeth brushed and perfect, hair and make up done in any manner the Changeling can imagine. Roll Glamor TN 8 (modified by bunks or other modifiers to arts) adding a number of automatic successes to all social rolls for the scene equal to the number of successes. (Grandeur 2)

Treasure/2pt./Black knee high boots that can become any article(s) of clothing that covers up to 3.5x it’s normal size or 1/16th its size (can shrink to a single anklet or something similar as well as grow to be a who (but tiny) clothing set) (Metamorphosis 2).

Treasure/1pt./A navel capture bar that staves off cold and regulates heat no matter how cold the temperature it. (pyretics 1)

Treasure/1pt./A silver tongue stud that cools the bearer to a comfortable temperature whenever they get too hot. (winter 1)

Personality: Arwen is libertine to a fault and rarely lets anything get in the way of herself and enjoying something. She is quick to laugh and quicker to kiss, she is a sensate who is always looking for the next thing. Her first love has always been movement, either writhing in a strip club, fighting in a pit, or dancing on stage, she loves the feeling of artistically moving her body for an audience... and she does certainly love an audience.  She loved being adored... that feeling of being wanted almost as much as the visceral pleasure of fucking someone.  She identifies as a lesbian, but that doesn't stop her from fucking men for fun and profit.  She also has a massive crush on Duchess Gabrielle.  She wouldn't admit it to anyone for fear that The Duxhess would not return the feeling and kick her out of the Duchy of Storms.

History: Arwen grew up a dancer, which quickly included martial arts and stripping after her chrysalis and she moved out on her great adventure.  She never stayed in one place for too long, using her money from stripping to fun martial arts classes as well as meeting men to extract glamour from as her curse required.  She first began in California, but Las Vegas is the mecca for both blood sports and strip clubs.  As an unseelie, Arwen is completely without moral qualm when it comes to using the dreamers she comes across, who could not possibly resist her charms.  Whoring herself out to them is an easy as stealing candy from a baby, both for money and for glamour.  Prize fighting is also a surprising source of glamour, for if she loses, her opponent sees their hope for their dreams to come true expand, while if she wins, she crushes those hopes.  Either way, she gets what she wants.  Dreamers are rare in the pro scene, so she keeps to the amateur scene, before they can get their wild-eyed dreams literally beaten out of them.

Arwen left Las Vegas for the Duchy of Storms because of the tales of heroism and glory around its Troll Duchess.  Arwen still travels back to Las Vegasn to make quick money or to fight, but now makes her home in Oklahoma.  She first made the trip because she wanted to feel like she was doing something interesting with her life, instead of just doing the same thing over and over.  Fighting Werewolves and protecting a balefire seemed like the next step in her growth... a few months there and then on to more interesting places, like a warrior pilgrimage.  Once she saw Duchess Gabrielle, all those plans came to a screeching halt.  She has decided to make this place her home, and has even managed to be knighted by the woman she adores.  Every time she sees the Troll, her heart thuds in her chest, and her mind wanders to how much she wants to be in those strong arms.

I'm .. still thinking. The Sluagh appeal to my 'wanna play the sneaky!' but ... I keep looking at the clurichaun and thinking .. I .. could do something with that.

Still plenty of time for people to think of a character & submit a sheet, so no rush, Thorne. :)

@Eobelle: Could you link rather than embed that 2nd image of your character & tag it NSFW? This request board is publicly visible and quite a bit of frontal is present, so would rather see NSFW character images linked/tagged appropriately. ^^

Birthright: Dark Appetite - Redcaps can eat anything. Full stop. Their horrific jagged teeth are hard as metal and their digestive systems are best left up to the imagination. A cross between a shark and a Kithain garbage disposal, redcaps can eat anything they can put their mouth around, and chew larger objects down into smaller pieces to ingest. Tough or toxic materials (waste products, jagged metal, wood, etc.) take a point of Glamour to keep down. Redcaps prefer meat, animal or human, but once the hunger gets going, they will eat anything. Do not ever place anything in front of a redcap’s mouth you wouldn’t mind losing.

Should a redcap attempt to use his Birthright in combat, the player must spend a point of Glamour. The base damage for the bite is Strength + 2 (difficulty 5). A redcap may also try to sever a limb in a fight, which requires five successes on a Dexterity + Brawl roll (difficulty 8), or three successes if the victim has already been grappled. If successful, the attack inflicts a minimum of three health levels of damage in addition to any damage rolled, and the redcap comes away with a mid-fight snack.

Bully Browbeat - Redcaps are so frightening they can Intimidate anything, from mortals and unenchanted supernatural beings to imaginary or chimerical creatures. The difficulty of all Intimidation rolls is reduced by two, and they can never botch Intimidation rolls.

Frailty: Bad Attitude - Nobody likes a redcap, just on general principle. Whether it’s their eating habits, their issues with authority, or just their tendency for destruction, redcaps are often targeted by nobles for exclusion from freeholds. If something goes wrong, the redcap is the first suspect. This stigma comes with a +2 difficulty (or greater) penalty on any roll involving social situations other than Intimidation.

Antithesis: Wearing a suit and tie on his mortal body.

Merits & Flaws

Merits
- NAME / COST / DESCRIPTION
Ambidextrous (1 pt) - You have a high degree of off-hand dexterity and can perform tasks with the “wrong” hand at no penalty. The rules for taking multiple actions still apply, but you do not suffer a difficulty penalty if you use two weapons or are forced to use your off hand.

Natural Leader (1 pt) - You’re gifted with a certain magnetism to which others naturally defer. Difficulties of all attempts to rally people with your words are reduced by two. You must have a Charisma rating of 3 or greater to purchase this Merit.

Crack Shot (2 pts) - Whether pointing a gun, arrow, or dart, you hit your target with great accuracy. You receive no increased difficulty when targeting any specific location and reduce the difficulty of rolls not involving specific targeting by one.

Danger Sense (2 pts) - You have a sixth sense warning you of danger. When in danger, the Storyteller will make a roll against your Perception + Alertness; the difficulty depends on the remoteness of the danger. If the roll succeeds, the Storyteller will say you have a sense of foreboding. Multiple successes may refine the feeling and give an indication of direction, distance, or nature.

Flaws
- NAME / COST / DESCRIPTION
Addiction (1 pt) - Smoking. You suffer from an addiction to a substance or experience. If the addiction is to something sedative and a fix cannot be obtained, you should roll to avoid triggering a gain of temporary Banality, as the mists of fugue gnaw at you. If the addiction is to something stimulating and a fix cannot be obtained, the Storyteller can choose to give you a point of Nightmare or even an Imbalance. For a one-point Flaw, the addiction must be satiated weekly; for a two-point Flaw, the addiction must be satiated daily; for a three-point Flaw, the addiction must be satiated after an hour of sobriety.

Impatient (1 pt) - Action always trumps inaction, and standing around is for grumps. Once per story, if you’re forced to wait around instead of acting, make a Willpower roll (difficulty 5). Failure makes you repeatedly insist on action, to the likely annoyance of your motley. If they do not follow your advice, you likely act no matter their attempts to stop you.

Insubordinate (1 pt) - Following the orders of leaders you do not respect rankles you like nothing else. Whenever such a leader makes a command or request of you, roll Willpower (difficulty 5) and on a failure, you will work against their decree.

Short Fuse (2pts) - The slightest provocation against you or one of your close companions compels you to lash out with fists, feet, or whatever comes to hand. When incited, you must make a Willpower roll to compose yourself, with the difficulty decided upon by the Storyteller based on the severity of the insult.

Personality: Rick (never Richard) is a Redcap. He is loud, argumentative, bucks the system except for the rare few that he respects. He drinks, smokes, swears, gambles, enjoys a good fight (brawl), and will stand up for those who he gives his word to (good luck getting it in the first place). He will skirt the law as far as he can get away with, and not give a rat’s arse (or any other part of any other rodent) who he pisses off along the way, mainly because those higher up the ladder have pissed him off, or worse, pissed on him. But he has enough sense to keep his mouth shut during formal occasions, leaving as soon as it is socially acceptable.

History: Rick Lancaster was born John Smith and was raised in a lower social standing family in Brisbane. He always resented his father, who was authoritarian to his bones, who never thought John would amount to much. Even as a kid, he had a short temper, and his father never tried to find out why his son was constantly angry.

After undergoing his Chrysalis and finding that he was a Redcap, he found his way into the local court of the Duchy of the Winding River. His experiences at the hands of his father, and the mortal authorities, left him with little patience for the matters of Court, so he forged his own path. He encountered mortal law on too many occasions, and through a combination of narrow book learning, and too much practical experience in getting himself out of legal trouble, he managed to keep his formal charges from ever turning into convictions.

But he was burning more Bridges than he could build, and decided it was time to find fresh fields further away. With the assistance of Baroness Alicia de Wynter of House Fiona, a childling who took a shine to Rick, he was able to leave not only the Duchy, but also the country, and found himself landing on the West Coast of the United States, and slowly made his way to the Duchy of Storms.

Being in a totally different land, with a totally different legal system, Rick knuckled down, and took advantage of a plethora of online courses to hone his knowledge of the new laws, and managed to put his skills to great use, collecting a small group of mortals who he helped get out of their troubled lives, and led them into a different type of troubled life, at least one that was more profitable for the group as a whole.

Rick's Retinue
Keith Stowers (Accountant) – Both Keith and Rick were waiting in the court chambers, and being bored, Rick started talking to Keith. Keith had been caught cooking some books, lost his job and was facing charges. He had no money to pay for a legal rep, so in return for some help with money matters, Rick was Keith’s legal rep. He got Keith off the charges, and the pair have been together since.

Nancy ?????? (Thug) – Rather than getting her off any charges, Rick jumped into a brawl where the woman was losing the fight. He impressed her with his skill, that she invited him to join the gang she was a member of. It didn’t go well, and they blamed her, and booted her out with him. After he pulled her arse out of the grinder again, she decided to throw her lot in with him.

Mike Hammer (Thug) – “Think of Jayne from Firefly, but not as pretty” is the line Rick uses to describe Mike. Big, nasty, enjoys a brawl even more than Rick does, and is willing to do anything for his cut of the loot. More mercenary than loyal, he has stuck around because the pay and benefits have been the best he has got so far.

Annabelle Howitt (Doctor) – The young doctor couldn’t handle the pace early in her career and resorted to stimulants to get her through. But the need grew stronger, and the strength of stimulants needed grew stronger, resulting in her stealing from the hospital pharmacy. This led to her dismissal, and loss of her licence to practice. While he was getting Mike out of legal trouble, he noticed Anna waiting for her turn, and like he did with Keith, he made her an offer. She didn’t hesitate, and she has been helping folks where she can and keeping the group as healthy as possible.

*updates* Woot, yay!

To mention, as I don't know if it helps people to know, I have absolutely no issue with 'overlap'--I am totally okay with more than one person playing a Pooka or Slaugh or Troll, etc. I'm of the opinion that people make their characters unique via RPing so some statistical resemblance is often totes okay to me.

Muse

Okay...

Could I have some feedback please.  Here's a tagline Ill pitch:

Male Seelie Troll Knight
Old Wilder or young Grump.
He makes his mundane living as a published author, and I'm torn between his being a conventional fantasy author, or him using a female alias to write and publish romance novels.

heheh...  I think I just answered my own question.  (With some input elsewhere from Atarn making me take the romance novelist idea a lot more seriously.)  I think he does both!  Fantasy under his own name and romance novels under a female psuedonym.

Might even be a fun little personal sub plot for him to decide that his agent was wrong, that the nome de plume is an unaceptable deception, and for him to reveal his identity to his romance fans.  :)

I say we gather all the Unseelie together and go on a quest to pants all the Seelie Changlings in either public, or for bonus points, during High Court events.

Consider it a fallback plan if we don't have anything better to do.

As a heads up for people, my activity levels will be slower for the next week, though that still should be well within the original two weeks I gave from when I first posted the interest check to submit sheets. But if I don't reply to a PM or post in this thread, I promise I'm still interested & super hyped to GM, it just means that RL's eating my time a bit more than I'd like. Will try to keep up, but I wanted to give notice since I may very well be much slower than normal for the next week so people didn't wonder what was going on. ^^;

Well, if you want feed back from me, I think that sounds great!  Would you be popular enough that some of us may have heard of your or be a fan of your work?  I know "I" would flip the fuck out if I found out that my favorite fantasy author and favorite romance author were one and the same.  Also, book groupies are a thing.

Personally, I love the idea. I think I like the idea of fantasy under his own name and romance under a female pseudonym. Given the general culture of the setting for this CtD game, you'll get some excellent IC reaction from NPCs with a 'big reveal' to fans. ^^

I lean a bit more to the Young Grump than Old Wilder, though there's nothing wrong with either, obviously. :)

Birthright: Squirm — Confining or restraining a sluagh is almost impossible because they are able to contort their bodies with ease. They cannot change their mass, but can contort into almost any shape. The player must roll Dexterity + Athletics, with the difficulty ranging from 6 to escape from ropes to 9 to worm through the bars of a locked cell. A sluagh cannot use this Birthright when restrained or confined by cold iron.
Sharpened Senses — Sluagh reduce the difficulty for all Perception rolls by one. They can also see through any illusory magic; this requires the expenditure of a point of Willpower and a successful Perception + Alertness roll (difficulty 7).
Sluagh are also capable of seeing lurking ghosts. This requires the player to make a successful Perception + Kenning roll (difficulty 7). By spending a point of Glamour, the sluagh can also converse with these spirits.

Frailty: Curse of Silence — No matter how hard they try, Sluagh cannot speak above a whisper. Even a scream only comes out as a soft sigh. They are very awkward in social situations and must add two to the difficulty of any Social rolls when interacting with anyone other than other sluagh.

Antithesis: Having to cut-off or leave a conversation when someone is gushing about something they love.

Merits & Flaws

Merits
- Night Sight / 2pt / Night blinds many eyes, but not yours. Regardless of the lighting conditions, your eyes adjust automatically, so you can see equally well at high noon, midnight, or entering pitch darkness. The adjustment is instantaneous, so if you are standing in a dark room and someone lights a candle, you’re not blinded.

- Surreal Beauty / 2pt / You possess a beauty far beyond that of normal mortals, unsettling in its perfection. People stand in awe of your ideal, yet alien, form while an inexplicable nausea subconsciously rises to the fore. Reduce the difficulty by three on any roll in which you try and acquire a changeling or faetouched individual’s attention, or win them over with your looks. Other beings find your beauty unnatural, imposing a +1 difficulty on attempts at winning such a person’s trust.

- Calming Presence / 1pt / Common among the pooka is the ability to calm any animal or child with a quiet word or even a look. Something in your aura conveys safety and security to the animal or child. Guard dogs and wild animals never attack you, and babies in your presence calm and gaze up at you in fascination and wonder.

Flaws
- Twitch / 1pt / You’ve some sort of repetitive motion that manifests in times of stress, and it’s a dead giveaway as to your identity. Examples include a nervous cough, constantly wringing your hands, cracking your knuckles, and so on. It costs one Willpower point to refrain from engaging in your tic. (Hums under their breath when nervous)

- Ward / 3pt / You are devoted to the protection of a mortal or Kinain. This character may be a friend or relative from your pre-Chrysalis days. Wards get caught up in the action of stories, and they’re frequent catalysts for dangerous situations. Describe your ward to your Storyteller in advance of your chronicle’s commencement. (Twin Sister)

- Bard’s Tongue / 1pt / You speak the truth, uncannily so. Things you say tend
to come true. This is not a facility for blessing or cursing, or an effect that can be ruled by any conscious control. At least once per story, an uncomfortable truth regarding any current situation will appear in your head and through your lips. To avoid speaking prophecy, you must expend a Willpower point and take a Health Level (bashing) from the strain of resisting.

- Bizzare Quality / 2pt / Mortals find something about you disturbingly fascinating. At inappropriate times, mortals stare at you and strike up conversations in the hopes of getting to know you better. Worse still, mortals of less savory natures will choose you over other potential targets for their illicit acts.

Fear: 2pts - The chimera can cause its target to flee screaming in terror, or freeze in paralytic horror. Bloodcurdling shrieks, mental domination, horrific physical appearance, and natural auras of terror are common methods of using this Rede. Fear lasts for a number of rounds equal to the chimera’s permanent Glamour. The victim may roll Willpower (difficulty 6) to reduce the duration by one turn per success. (Use Cost: 1 Glamour)
Sense Banality: 2pts - The chimera can tell exactly how much Banality is in a person, place or thing. This is a prized ability for chimerical companions of urban changelings especially, who appreciate an early warning for approaching Autumn People and assessments of areas where they plan on using Arts or other faerie magic. (Use Cost: 1 WP/scene)
Befuddle: 3pts - This Rede allows the chimera to confuse its target, clouding its mind and making it difficult to perform any action. The Storyteller rolls the chimera’s Glamour at a difficulty equal to its target’s Willpower. The target loses one die from all dice pools per success the chimera achieves. The effect lasts for one minute per success, or until the chimera leaves the vicinity of its victim. (Use Cost: 1 Glamour)

Personality: Quinn is an absolute nerd, and loves collecting things relating to their interests. While their own tastes tend to be a bit darker (horror movies, novels, games - along with anything particularly stereotypically Goth), they love to listen to anyone talk about their particular passions. Seeing what makes people get fired up is fascinating to them, even if it was something bright and bubbly. They are also deeply fascinated by the life they have recently been thrust into, and they devote a fair amount of their time, when not occupied with something else, looking into the culture and history and other mysteries. They are not the best at navigating social situations - though plenty would say that is expected for a Sluagh - unfortunately they tend to attract a fair amount of attention because of their looks, leading them to cover up quite a bit in both voile and mundane dress.

History: Quinn only experienced their Dream Dance a couple of years ago, making them relatively new to the scene. Only a little more recently have they gained relative independence, both in the Saining and in their more mundane life. They make a living with a mix of part-time work at the local library and doing ASMR videos on youtube, both lending well to their particular frailty. They were born and raised in Oklahoma, and continue to live with their twin sister, who is incredibly creative and often works with them on videos. Quinn is incredibly devoted to their sister, and considers her to be even more important than their multitude of interests and studies.

Quinn mostly kept to themselves during their Pre-Chrysalis life, and still mostly does so, though they have, oddly, come out of their shell a little in recent months. Their curiosity about learning more has made them a bit bolder, getting themselves involved in Changeling life much more than they ever did in human affairs. They speak with their Mentor, another Sluagh, regularly to learn more or even just to talk a while to someone more on their speed. After all, some kith can be very loud.

Quinn's chimerical companion is a large spider (similar in size and shape to a Goliath Birdeater) that is dark-red and black, named Ungoliant. It has been with them since their Dream Dance, slowly developing as time went on.

Hope this is ok~ Will detail the Mentor and the twin sister a bit more if/when needed ^^

Well I am looking at bringing an Autumn Sidhe Diplomat,Caregiver,Host/Hostess and jack of all trades.

I decided to  go with this option for the character and I am working on the sheet.

The other way I do this concept as a member of  House Fiona and he/she fulfills her role to those in  need of  his/her services as a Neutral party, Providing entertainment relaxation,Pleasure and confidences in  the path he/she has chosen to show his/her leadership through service to others and follow the passions with his/her individual take on the Oath taken as a member of House Fiona. Though this concept would also be much more open to a variety of  background ties.

This is a sample of another CtD game I played elsewhere. I hope people like it.

~||~

Rick was licking their blood off his knuckles as he was sauntering towards Hammerstein Avenue. He smiled as in his memory he listened to Weedy's pleading for mercy. Rick had been feeling generous and hadn't broken any of his bones in the beating Rick delivered. At least Weedy would be in a state capable of getting his operation out of Rick's turf. The muscle, on the other hand, would be resting up in a clinic somewhere for a while at least, while internal bruising subsided and bones could set.

"Hardly worth getting excited about. He should have brought at least one more heavy with him. It would have made it at least some fun. Hmmpf. Stupid human." He turned left onto Hammerstein and was brought to a halt by what he saw. Sitting not too far from the corner was a woman in her middle years, the lightest touches of frost amongst the rich autumn hues of her hair. Her face was equally touched by the passage of time, though it seemed to accentuate her features rather than deteriorate them at all. Her eyes, when she turned them his way, seemed to sparkle with some suppressed mirth. He saw that she was wearing an emerald green gown better suited for a theatre than for wearing on the street. Rick found a spot to sit, watching her the way a child watched a clown, or a costumed performer of some favourite cartoon character. She bent down and opened the large case at her side. Out came a cello that Rick knew beyond doubt that was as old as she was at least. She got the instrument settled, and gave it a quick check.

Even the warm up notes touched him deeply. The deep, mellow feel that accompanied the short pieces of music made Rick wish they could carry him with them, so he could relish them further. He caught the warm smile from her as she started her first piece. She was no longer a woman with a string instrument; they combined to become an artist. She closed her eyes, and seemed to connect to music and the cello. The result was amazing. Here was a woman as old as his mum, but the years weren't a burden, but a welcomed addition. A refinement like the soothing hand that time has for a good vintage of wine. She drew on her experiences of her life, and gave it to the music.

That was why her music captivated him so greatly. She didn't play it; she lived it and shared that passion she held for the music. Her heart was the metronome. Her soul resonated to every note born of her cello, amplifying each in a way that no technology ever would. Because of that deeply spiritual amplification, she filled the air not only with nearly unearthly beautiful sounds, but colour, warmth, joy and wonder. The icy feeling deep within Rick slowly thawed as the strands of the centuries old piece carried all that heard it further from dearth of winter and closer to the glories of summer.

He didn't care how long he sat there. He didn't even know. All he did was sit and listen to her play until she was done. A face that was almost perpetually in an expression of contempt and annoyance was trying to deal with the instructions to show awe. Tears of joy streamed down his face as he walked over to the little tin box she had opened to receive monetary appreciation of her music. Rick reached her, gently taking her bow clasping hand to his lips, brushing them with the lightest of kisses across her knuckles. With equal care, he released her hand, oblivious to the degree of surprise on the woman's face. He dug through one of his pockets, pulling out some notes and spare change and placed them within the tin. He turned from her, and walked back to the freehold. It took all his efforts to resume his normal expression by the time he reached the freehold door.

"The day has really been a fucking good one so far."

I'm afraid not, no. I have a strong preference to have all sheets on-site, and I rather dislike Google Docs in particular, unfortunately, as a way of keeping track of PC info.

I can, however, boop that sheet into BBCode for you some time later (might be a few days), if that would help. :)

Thorne

Setting these sheets up just makes me appreciate being able to use Hero Labs all the more. ^^;

I managed to nail down at least a start; still have to do the actual set up and figure out what kind of clurichaun I am actually building here. And write a description, and find an image .. and figure out what the hell she collects, because I think I have a wilder here.

Arianthe
Birds of a feather flock together, so the saying went. For a younger Arianthe, it just meant her normal was somebody else's insanity. Grandma Katleen was sometimes human, sometimes a cat, and never capable of a straight answer. Grandma Masla told stories that always came true. Mama's hair moved with the wind, like fire ... and Arianthe accepted it, with the simple faith of a child. All of the dozen or so members of that small caravan were something Else, something of wonderment. And they met others, no less strange, many terrifying, but all their own kind of normal, everywhere they went.
As she matured, she learned that her normal was fair from normal, and most people's normal was boring. But they enjoyed her stories, even if most of them didn't think they were true. That suited Arianthe; they weren't meant to believe, only to learn. Only to see, for a moment or two, a spark of wonder, to remember what it was to dream.
The dreams seemed real, more and more, every night. Dreams of music, of dancing and laughter and everything seemed so /real/ ... and then, one day, Arianthe woke up, and began to understand.

These days, she has settled. It happens, not all of them are wanderers by nature, and her family knows where she is and why she chose to stay and make her way in this city. Arianthe spends much of her time telling tales in a small tavern, and the rest collecting tales to tell. This place is ... well. It is full of stories, and even more full of people who need to hear them.

Updated the character sheet with 98% of the relevant info on it. If there is anything drastic that needs changing, please let me know.

To other players, I am fine having some past connections with any other PCs if there is desire, and a feasible reason for them to have encountered each other. PM me if that is something you want to look into.

Blythe

I can do some feedback on sheets tomorrow, in all likelihood.

A question for everyone: do you prefer feedback in PM or here in-thread? I know some people prefer to have feedback be a more private thing & some like to have it out there for people to see to keep people abreast of changes & giving people an idea of what the GM wants, etc.

Marie Reynolds

I don't think my character will have a lot of skeletons in  the closet so I am cool with feedback in the thread.

Blythe

It looks like most people prefer feedback in PMs, so I'll review what sheets have been submitted when I can and give feedback accordingly via PM. It's easier for me to do feedback the same way for each player, so over the next few days, I will try to get feedback to everyone who has submitted a sheet via PM. I'm admittedly going to be slow about this until I no longer have company at home, as it's limited my ability to be on and post anything substantial. (My sister is not slated to go home until the 17th, so my posting/feedback is almost assuredly going to be slow until then).  ^^;

Cool, Glad you Like it Blythe I hope too have this done soon, has there been any changes in the deadline to submit characters.

At the moment, the deadline is still around February 19th. I may extend a final deadline to the 24th, depending on how long it takes me to provide CS feedback, as I will want people to be able to have time to make edits after getting feedback before I make my final selections. But for now, assume I'd like the first rough draft of any sheet by the 19th. :)

Hey Blythe, is there room for another person?

And if so, more importantly, is there any holes in the party I could get a character to fill for youse?

Blythe

Well, since I'm only taking 4 - 6 players, I'm guaranteed to have to turn some folks down if everyone who expressed interest submits a sheet, but if you are still wanting to toss in a CS/app, I'm still taking initial CS drafts until the 19th. :)

Since Muse already has a Seelie Troll character submitted, should I grab something else? I could do up an Autumn Sidhe I think.

I don't mind character overlap, so if you want to submit a Seelie Troll, you still can if you like.

Righto, it's only fair that those who've shown interest should get in before me, so I'll sit out for now.

Sure, though I am slow to respond to PMs at the moment, but will try to get to them as I'm able.

My personal recommendation would be to add the professional abilities at the bottom of the column most appropriate. In the main rule book, the professional talent/skill/knowledge is the last one, so appending them to the end of the core list of abilities would be how I would do it if I had any.

Copy the entire last line of the abilities code, and paste it to the bottom how ever many times you need to, blank out the repeated abilities, and fill in the new ones, with the proper levels.

Again, that is how I would do it, but it is Bly's call to make as the ST.

Alright Ill do that after I put it in the forum again the coding has shifted around a bit do to the margins of the word document I am working out of.

M13 and Muse, you'll get PMs within the next 24 hours or so from me, and thank you both so much for your patience. :)

It looks like you have more than enough players already, and since I haven't even got started on a sheet yet, I think I'll bow out from this one.

Am working on sheet feedback still--am currently working on that as I type. Am hoping to get Muse's and M13's PMs out tonight.

A question for everyone: What erotic content rating are you most comfortable with/do you most enjoy?

- Light
- Bondage
- NC
- EX

This somewhat affects some PC stuff, so it would help me to know what people are okay with. There's no wrong answer to this question. (No matter what rating I ultimately select, I'll still be keeping sexual content to it's own side-thread so it never becomes the main focus of the game & will require people tag more intense kinks accordingly. No matter what section is picked, no one's ever going to be asked to write anything outside their comfort zone or read sexual content they don't like)

Personally, from a GM standpoint, I have been writing a lot of darker material lately, and I was rather hoping to keep this set in Bondage - Exotic for less dark adult material, but I also am willing to compromise on that depending on player interests. I am fairly well-known to write anything from L to EX, so it's not a huge deal for me.

marauder13

When I joined, I saw the big "[BON]" in the subject line, so my expectations were that it would be a BON level game. So, if you want to keep it at that level, I am fine with that. It would make for a nice change in 'environment' for me, as most of my games are in the darker range of the spectrum.

So, to clarify, I cast me 'vote' for Bondage.

Sparrowhawke

Well, uh, you know me and where my tastes lie, Bly - but I agree with marauder on this one, if you wanna keep it lighter that is fine with me. Quinn was very much written with a more [BON] or lower idea set in mind. Not even entirely sure they're that interested in that. My main focus here is on FAIRIES

Tsk, of course I'd come back too late to get in on this. Woe betide my idea for an Unseelie Boggan. If it's okay I may make them and submit them even if they have no chance of making it. If not I don't want to waste your time. You've gotten plenty of interest.
Sloppy toppy for papi, I leave sloppy Joe shook - I only call you Captain because your dick off the hook!

Eobelle

I'm an [EX] girl, myself, but I think I have got a bead on her personality and wants/hopes/dreams to a good enough scope that I can play her at any level.  Arwen would be very fun cranked up to 11... So I'd vote for [EX]; but regardless, I'm really excited to play.

The deadline for first drafts of character sheets is in two days; I'm still accepting the first round of applications until then, so there's still time for a person to toss something in. I have not made any final player selections yet.

While I do indeed have a lot of interest, I certainly don't mind seeing what you've come up with. :)

If he wishes to answer truthfully the player must make a Willpower roll (difficulty 8).

Merits & Flaws

Merits
- Living Legend / 5pt/ You are the living, breathing incarnation of a great hero or heroine; this does not have to be an actual, historical figure, but can be a character from mythology or even a figure from more contemporary fiction. Note that you are an incarnation, not a reincarnation. You are the embodiment of an individual legend. Your fae mien matches your heritage perfectly. Any Kithain with even the slightest knowledge of the original tale will recognize you immediately, and you are likely to attract a great deal of attention from the cultures that give birth to the legend. When people recognize you, the difficulty of your social rolls reduces by two. You gain access to one of your ancestor’s Attribute or Ability ratings once per chapter. At the Storyteller’s discretion, this Merit may also allow you to have knowledge of, if not access to, certain chimera or Treasures related to your legend. Your appearance and your memories may make it hard to get along unnoticed in ordinary society. It can also be very hard to live up to what is expected of you.

Flaws
- Amnesia / 2pt / Your life is a blank slate. However, your shadowy past may someday come back to haunt you, and the Storyteller is under no obligation to be merciful.
- Wyrd Mind / 2pt / Your mind is extremely chaotic and unpredictable. As a result, you have difficulty concentrating on any one task. You must make a Willpower roll (difficulty 4) for every extended action roll after the second.
- Dangerous Mentor / 1pt / Your mentor is lost to Bedlam, or engages in acts that could cause a tremendous uproar. Any wrong committed by your mentor may affect your reputation, and some of your mentor’s dangerous schemes may somehow involve you.

Item/Treasure

A talking skull cause it’s cool

Personality: Corrin is a bold, outgoing creature with a habit of getting into trouble. He is rarely malicious but can easily be thoughtless, his attention waning quickly from one distraction to the next.

History: Amnesia has stolen away a lot of Corrin’s past, anything Pre-Chrysalis little more than a distorted confusion of emotion and noise. For Corrin, his life began a few years ago under his strange mentor, learning an eclectic mess of knowledge as his mentor lost himself to Bedlam. Perhaps it was his mentor’s game all along or maybe it was just plain luck, but most of what Corrin learned was how to read those around him, manipulate them and achieve what he desired without anyone knowing that they danced to his tune.

In his human life, he works as a barista for a cat cafe. In his fae life he is known to be the incarnation of [open to ideas, though I kindda like the idea of Set. Can look for something less extra though!] and has acquired (aka, stolen) an artifact that he remembers from his life before. Not from before his Chrysalis, but before all of it. He is extremely fond of it, and treasures it above all else - though he’s not about to tell it that, or else it may get a bloated ego.

Birthright: Craftwork: Boggans enjoy nothing more than good, honest work. Their reputation for being consummate craftspeople is well earned. While unobserved, Boggans can accomplish any task involving physical labor or craftsmanship in one third the time. Other Boggans may be present but they must not be observed. No Boggan can ever botch a Crafts roll.

Social Dynamics: Boggans are keen observers of social interactions, and their inherently unobtrusive nature allows them to witness things that otherwise might remain hidden. A successful Perception+Empathy (or subterfuge) roll allows the Boggan to parse the social dynamics together. The difficulty ranges from 5 to 9 at ST discretion. Success on this roll may lower future rolls with interactions with the group, especially Social rolls.

Frailty: Call of the Needy: Boggans are inherently helpful, and cannot resist offering aid when it is needed. When they encounter someone who legitimately needs help, the player must make a Willpower roll at difficulty 8 to not offer some type of aid. This does not apply to sworn enemies.

Antithesis: Not repaying a favor freely given.

Merits & Flaws

Merits
- Blessing of Atlas / 5 / Remarkable among trolls and seen as a true miracle among other kiths, the Blessing of Atlas raises your Strength and permanent Strength cap by 1. You are slightly larger than your ilk and defined as if carved from marble. If it comes to light you possess this merit you will be expected to be a burgeoning hero or feared as an upcoming warlord.

Flaws
- Changeling Eyes / 1 / Your eyes are a startling color, maybe emerald green, violet, or yellow. This is a sign you are a changeling, recognizable to those who know the ancient lore. (White)

Echoes / 3 / When church bells are ringing and Donovan can hear them he is at a -2 (pain) penalty for all actions. This stacks with wound penalties.

Personality: Donovan is an outlier in many ways. He never quite fit in in the Duchy of the Delta Crescent, always “too white” or “too redcap” to fit in places easily. So, in short, he's stopped trying too much. He's brusque but not unnecessarily rude. When you are under his hospitality his nature softens to that of a sweet but stern uncle.

History: Donovan Dubois is from a wealthy Louisiana family in the Duchy of the Delta Crescent. He was raised in finery with nearly every want met by his doting parents. However his peers and extended family were not so kind. His parents had been “lucky” in a court case and won their earnings through trial. This led to him being “new money” for most of his “peers.”

When he grew old enough to go to school he was punished by those who didn't accept him until he grew bitter. His chrysalis came when he was watching the groups flowing around him with the small threads of social intrigue started glowing for him. He suddenly knew Cindy had a crush on Brad who had a crush on Chad or that Beth was bulimic and what drugs Greg did. His plunge into his fae nature was an awakening of glory.

Using his knowledges to ply these people he began to worm his way through the school system and even fae culture. His strength kept growing as he got older until he started falling back on it if his social machinations fell short. He was like the entire crime family in one person.

Life as a Boggan is not easy either. Most fae overlook you as some nonsensical party planner or worthless gossip to pound for information. It was a an uppity Nocker that pushed him over the edge; the man was shaming one of the Changelings who offered hospitality to all. Donovan beat him to an inch of chimerical knockout much to the humor of Lord Glynn of House Daireann.

Lord Glynn took Donovan under his wing, honing this bludgeon into a rough gem. In short time he was the hammer of Lord Glynn, rough muscle who could also snipe easy targets for courtly intrigue.

It was last year when Duchess Gabriella visited the Duchy of the Delta Crescent that Lord Glynn saw a proper opportunity. There was not much room for Donovan to grow in Louisiana, especially with his reputation. However Gabriella needed courtly help and no one could easily turn down such a useful knight. With Lord Glynn's blessing, Donovan was knighted and given to the service of Gabriella for her rule in Oklahoma.

Birthright:
Unearthly Beauty — Sidhe stand out in a crowd due to their beauty and regal bearing. Sidhe receive two additional dots of Appearance, even if this brings that rating above 5. When they invoke the Wyrd (p. 259), this beauty becomes overpowering. If a sidhe invokes the Wyrd in the presence of a character, the player must roll Willpower (diffculty 8).

Frailty:
Adoration — Autumn sidhe are better with mortals than their Arcadian cousins, but that carries problems of its own. Any time an Autumn sidhe successfully enchants or even meaningfully interacts with a mortal (successful use of Intimidation, Expression, Leadership, etc.), the Storyteller should roll the mortal’s Willpower against a diffculty of the sidhe’s Glamour rating. Failure means that the mortal takes an extra interest in the sidhe, which can manifest as anything from persistently offering favors or discounts to asking personal questions or sharing unwelcome confdences, or even asking for pictures or autographs. It also means the mortal has no trouble remembering every word and detail of the interaction, which can be a problem for sidhe trying to remain inconspicuous. A botch on the roll indicates the mortal either develops an unhealthy fascination with the sidhe in the case of a positive interaction, or an obsessive hatred in response to a negative one.

Merits & Flaws

Merits
Jack of All Trades/ 5pts:
You’ve a large pool of miscellaneous skills and knowledge obtained through extensive travels, the jobs you’ve held, or all-around know-how. You automatically have one dot in all Skill and Knowledge Dice Pools. This is an illusory level, used to simulate a wide range of abilities. If you spend experience in any untrained Skill or Knowledge, you must still pay the point cost for the first level.

Natural Linguist/3pts:
The well-traveled changeling knows the use of being able to comprehend many languages. You may reduce the difficulty of any task involving the study of written or spoken languages by three, and each purchase of the Language Merit gives you two languages instead of just one.

Language/1pt:
You know a language in addition to your native one. You can take this Merit multiple times, each reflecting a different language.

Ambidextrous/1pt:
You have a high degree of off-hand dexterity and can perform tasks with the “wrong” hand at no penalty. The rules for taking multiple actions still apply, but you do not suffer a difficulty penalty if you use two weapons or are forced to use your off hand.

Double Jointed/1pt:
You’re unusually supple. Reduce the difficulty of any roll involving body flexibility by two. Squeezing through a tiny space is one example of a use for this Merit.

Friendly Face/1pt:
You have a face strangers are inclined to trust. The effect doesn’t fade even if you attempt self-deprecation, leaving you at –2 difficulty on all appropriate Social rolls (yes for first impressions, no for Intimidation, for example) when a stranger is involved. This Merit only functions on a first meeting.

Dexterous Toes/2pts:
Anything you can do with hands (fring a gun, drawing, playing a musical instrument, etc.) can be done just as well using your feet. Polite society tends to frown on such behavior, but sluagh and pooka laugh at such prissiness.

Good Listener/1pt:
Pooka excel at the ability to get others to open up to them; however, you are a master confidant. A word here, a gesture there, you crack people open like oysters and harvest their secrets like pearls. Your ability to listen makes others tell you their feelings, concerns, and hidden dreams. They don’t know why they’re telling you, but they usually feel better afterwards. All rolls related to obtaining information from others are at a –2 difficulty.

Flaws
Fallen Noble/3pts:
Once, you held near-absolute power in a freehold, but those days are gone. Perhaps you stepped down, or your city fell to a rival Court; it matters little now. What matters is your replacement is aware of your prior position, and has concerns you might be trying to make a comeback. If the new ruler sees an opportunity to get rid of you, she just might take it.

Recruitment Target/3pts:
An enemy organization wants you, and they want you bad. Every effort is being made to recruit you, willing or no, and the press gangs usually show up at the worst possible time. For every friend you have who will defend you, another will wonder what is so special about you that draws this malevolent group to your doorstep.

Enemy/1pt:
You have an enemy, or perhaps a group of enemies, who want you harmed. The value of the Flaw determines how powerful these enemies are. The most powerful enemies (kings or impossible horrors from the Dreaming) would be fve-point Flaws, while someone nearer to your own power would be worth only one point. You must decide who your enemy is and how you earned such enmity in the frst place.

The deadline for the first draft of sheets is still the 19th, so I won't look at any new sheets posted after that date.

When I return to regular posting, will be getting feedback on sheets submitted & will answer PMs. Thanks so much for your patience in advance.

Work in progress; most of the broad strokes are there.
Right. More or less complete; details to be hashed out probably on editing pass. For now though, I'm done; points spent and most of the bits settled.

Birthright:
Twinkling of an Eye — Now you see them, now you don’t. Look away for only a moment, and a clurichaun can disappear into her surroundings, completely undetectable. Unless the clurichaun is bound with iron, she can vanish in a blink, even from someone’s physical grasp, reappearing within the same area but out of her observer/captor’s line of sight. If someone is physically touching the clurichaun, or she is tied up or otherwise restrained, disappearing costs one point of Glamour.
Fighting Words —After only a few moments, a clurichaun can get a read on a person or group, knowing exactly what to say to provoke a fight. Clurichaun view fighting as an ice breaker and a form of rough-and-tumble bonding. The clurichaun can prod anyone into throwing the first punch, which the target can resist through a Willpower roll (difficulty 8). This birthright can be used to incite a fight between the clurichaun and the target, or between the target and another person.
Frailty:
Hoard — For clurichaun, collecting isn’t a mere hobby, but a consuming obsession. They must spend time with their collection frequently to satisfy this aspect of their nature, an easier task for a clurichaun with a smaller, more portable collection than for one whose hoard is large or unwieldy. Spending more than a week away from her collection triggers Banality.

Merits & Flaws

Merits
Eidetic Memory (2pt. Merit)
You remember, with perfect detail, things you see and hear.
Documents, photographs, conversations, etc., can be committed to memory with minor concentration. If you as the player forget an important piece of information the Storyteller believes your character would recall, the Storyteller will jog your memory.
Under stressful conditions involving numerous distractions, you must make a Perception + Alertness roll to concentrate and absorb what your senses detect.
Soul of the Muse (4pt. Merit)
You are an inspiration to creators of all types. Whether you are artistically gifted or not, other artists find it far easier to create masterworks when you are around. If you are in the presence of any creator — whether you are acting as a model, providing counsel, or singing a song — that creator reduces the difficulty
to create his work by three. This creative stimulation applies to works of wonder and destruction alike, as you inspire all.

Flaws
Bard’s Tongue (1pt. Flaw)
You speak the truth, uncannily so. Things you say tend to come true.
Iron Allergy (4pt. Flaw)
Most of the Kithain only suffer pain when in contact with cold iron. You suffer from actual wounds. Cold iron reacts like a hot brand when touching your skin. For each turn in contact with iron, you suffer one Health Level of chimerical damage.
As a four-point Flaw, you take one Health Level of real damage for every three turns in contact with cold iron.
Twitch (1pt. Flaw)
You’ve some sort of repetitive motion that manifests in times of stress, and it’s a dead giveaway as to your identity.
Examples include a nervous cough, constantly wringing your hands, cracking your knuckles, and so on. It costs one Willpower point to refrain from engaging in your tic.

Personality: Arianthe's quiet intensity bleeds into everything she does, and seems to infect everyone around her. She tells stories that sweep up a listener, and she rarely enters a room unnoted. She has a tendency to mutter or hum, or at least move her lips silently to some unheard song or tale that certainly /is/ noticeable.

History:Birds of a feather flock together, so the saying went.

She's been in the Duchy of Storms for a year and a half, give or take a week.

Personality: A little about your character's outlook.

History:   Brandon Patterson can't remember when it first crossed his mind that he wanted to be a writer.  Only child of a single mother who read to him practically from the day he was born, Brandon grew up in the home of his wealthy grandparents.  They owned several cotton gins, and lived in a big house with a nice garden in a small West Texas town called Quana.

School was rough on Brandon.  Big and strong for a boy his age, he was still very much a geek.  A peaceful child who didn't want to hurt anyone, he let himself be beat on by bullies several times in junior high.  In sixth grade, befriending a girl named Anabelle who also loved to read, bullies surrounded the two of them, looking for some fun.  In keeping with the code, the girls started shovving little Annabelle around while the boys grabbed Brandon and took turns punching him.

When Annabelle hit the ground with a cry, Brandon snapped.  He didn't care about his own pain, and he didn’t care about the code.

Those girls were hurting his friend.

   He made them stop.

The principle was not at all happy about finding five girls in the nurses office with black eyes and broken noses.  He had Brandon in his office and sent the others home or to the doctor without a word.  He spent fifteen minutes yelling at Brandon that he shouldn't hit girls...

That was where Brandon's mother found them, and her tongue lashing left the forty year old man sitting at his desk in tears.  Her last words to him before she took Brandon home were, “I didn't raise a sexist.”

*   *   *

Brandon had a much harder time in school for a while, but before long he decided to actually defend himself—usually more by wrestling than throwing punches.  By high school, the bullies were too afraid of being tossed through the air to mess with him, the weaker kids tried to befriend him in hopes that he'd protect them, and the football coach was salivating for him.

“I'm sorry, coach,” Brandon told him, “I had as short story published over the summer.  I'm working on a novel now, and I started taking kendo in Amarillo on the weekends.”  Walking away, arm in arm with Annabelle on their way to their first class, he said softly, “Oh, my Lord...  Football?  How boring is that?”

   The little blond giggled.

On Anabelle's sixteenth birthday, after her party, the two got in Brandon's room. He read two chapters from the fantasy novel he was writing to her, and then they began to kiss.  This time, instead of stopping him when she got too hot, Ana belle began to unbutton her blouse...

Cuddling with his beloved after a long night of passion, Brandon noticed as he was drifting off that his hands looked blue...

The next few days were pretty confusing.  Not only had Brandon gained a foot and a half over night, no one else could see it.  He questioned his sanity a few times, but every time he remembered that—when he woke up in Anabelle's arms, she'd told him that his eyes had changed—going from brown to blue.

It was the little pixie in the garden—a neverlander he half remembered from when she'd enchanted him a as child--who began to explain to him what he was, and actually told him he should sign up for an MMO called Enchanted Star Realms online.

This was where he met the creator of the game, Duke Brenden Beaumayn.  Baroness Tamora Hale knighted him the next year, bringing him into House  Beaumayn and The Knights of the Good Hand.  (Brandon—or Balthazar Tori as the Changelings had known him since his Sain Day—thought Tamora was the most beautiful being he'd ever imagined, but his love for Annabelle kept him from wooing her.

Balthazar moved to McAlister, Oklahoma for college and offered his fealty and service as a knight to Duchess Gabriela Cox.  Annabelle went to Dallas to study Biology, and their relationship faded in the coming months.

Balthazar has had a recurring crush on his Lady ever since, but he thinks she's beyond his reach.  He's had a few dalliances since then, but only one was serious.

He threw himself both into changeling life and into his writing, publishing several fantasy and romance novels.

On his editor's advise, he Brenda Aaron for the romances.  The deception bothered him, but he was new to the field and trusted his editor.

Three years ago, a new knight came to town, Dame Onnica Sioban.  Balthazar was utterly taken with the beautiful sidhe.  He wooed her and won her love—or so he thought.  Last Year, Onnica was discovered to be a Shadow Court spy who'd been sewing discord among the Seelie.

For the first and only time to date, Balthazar disobeyed a direct order from Gabriella. He moved ahead of the three knights going to arrest Onnica.  Those three were jumped by Shadow Court assassins.  They were slowed and wounded, but manage to drive the five away.  They found Onnica and Balthazar locked in a fierce duel as Onnica tried to escape with the Pennon of the Freehold.

Onnica escaped in the end, leaping from a high tower to be spirited away by a giant was, but Balthazar's willingness to put his duty before his love—and his lady's orders—allowed him to save the freehold's keys from being carried to the Shadow Court.

Baltahzar took a knee before Gabriella and offered to serve pennace for his disobedience.  She pardoned him, but Baltahzar spent several months fighting with his unseelie legacy.  He took a leave from his duties and poured his energy into a new romance novel.  After it went to the publishers, an order form Gabriella arrived commanding him to return to his duty and deal with a chimera rampaging on the New Mexico border.

It was the last nudge Baltahzar needed to find himself again, and he has happily returned to his duty since.

Eobelle

Hey Nadir, one idea for your Legend could be that you are the Cat Sí, the legendary progenitor of the Ceilican, the fae-cat Bastet changing breed. That might be an interesting connection (or opposition to) garou and other changing breeds as well as give you a mixed and interesting set of possible powers that are still linked to being faerie and changing shape.

Blythe

Noting that the deadline for the first round of CSes has now passed and I will accept no more new sheets at this time. From here on in, the only sheets I'll accept are 'fixed' or 'final' versions of drafts that were submitted before the 19th. I will update the thread's first post to reflect this.

I'll be answering PMs and doing feedback over the next few days; it will take me a bit to catch up. The final deadline for re-done sheets will be March 1st--my apologies on the 'late' deadline for re-done stuff, but my goal is to give myself at least three days to catch up with the thread and get PMs out and 3 - 4 days for people to be able to do edits as needed in response to PMed feedback they get before final selections happen.

Blythe

Slowly working on doing feedback--updating table so it makes it easier. People who have not yet received an initial PM from me will get priority for being PMed tonight so they can have more time to make revisions & provide me information I need.

I've decided I'll be selecting 6 players total overall, that way if I have one or two drops later in the game, I should still have a large enough group to continue. I will have a round of PMs out to people probably within the next 24-48 hours, ideally. If I don't, don't sweat it, it just means its taking me a little longer than anticipated to go over character sheets. :)

Blythe

Everyone has received at least 1 starting PM for an initial sheet review! I am now working on replying to PMs to players in general now that everyone's on the same footing. :)

A few notes for people:
- It helps me in your histories if you mention when your PC came to the Duchy of Storms, if they are not originally from there.
- Remember that Changelings are still part of the real world, too. Make sure they have legal first and last names. (If you have a reason to not know what this name is ICly, we can work out if you are comfortable with me 'naming' your character or if you prefer to name them yourself and simply 'discover' the info ICly)
- Be careful about Backgrounds. If you have no points in Resources, you are in a lot of trouble in-game, because you have no way to pay for a place to stay and no way to pay your bills. There are plenty of IC reasons to have no Resources at all, but consider not putting all your points in Changeling-only backgrounds, or you may find yourself in a spot of trouble in-game. >:)
- For Treasures: When you select the Treasure background, please assign it a Rank in an Art that corresponds to the dot-value of your Treasure. (A one point Treasure should have a level 1 Art)

Muse

So I've been looking at the chimerical items background.  In 2nd edition, having chimera: Items t 4 gave you 4 items, a level 4, a level 3, a level 2 and a level 1.

  It would seem that in this system, to do the same thing, you'd need to spend 10 bacground points on items.  Is this correct?  If so, why would anyone not just buy 4 treasures for the same price?  ^_^;

So I've been looking at the chimerical items background.  In 2nd edition, having chimera: Items t 4 gave you 4 items, a level 4, a level 3, a level 2 and a level 1.

  It would seem that in this system, to do the same thing, you'd need to spend 10 bacground points on items.  Is this correct?  If so, why would anyone not just buy 4 treasures for the same price?  ^_^;
Because chimerical items, while not imbued with arts, came be as massive or fanciful as you want when you get to high levels which is amazing.  Want a Final Fantasy mobile base in the dreaming?  How about magitech armor for your Troll?  And then when you call upon the wyrd, you are are shockingly, horribly beweaponed where ever you are!  Or maybe your mobile base appears out of no where to pick you up from certain doom on a cliffside when you are surrounded by snarling lupines!

Also super useful are high level chimera.  Want a dragon friend that can manifest beside you to fight?  A living flamethrower that no one but changeling can detect or strip from you?  I bet leeches would never expect that coming, and could save your ass if they decided to take an interest in you.  Want to intimidate a redcap?  A 20 foot giant made of obsidian and hate that has 6 very punchy arms might be good backup.

Chimera are super useful in the dreaming... and useful in the Autumn world because they always are useful against changelings, and against non-changelings they are an ace that you can keep up your sleeve that no one can detect.  There are a few non-changeling can can detect chimerical items or creatures, but they are few and far between and know better than to fuck with you if you have a wyvern following you around, or maybe a 12 foot long fuzzy moray eel named Steve.

Oh, so treasures can't be purely chimerical?  That makes sense.

:)  I'm well aware of how nice it is to ave chimerical tools, weapons, and armor.  :)

Chimerical items can have physical form in mortal eorld, but its rarely as its chimerical form. A noble might have a beautiful chimerical sword that is in mortal world a beautiful cane, or a common hunter might have a spear that changes size, and in mortal world is a telescoping radio antenna. Or your chimerical sword could be an actual sword, some fancy wall hanger or an heirloom from way back family.

One thing someone pointed out to me, is if deciding an objects chim/mortal forms, imagine yourself as a child and think of something you might imagine you could pretend is the chimerical item/weapon. Back scratchers become swords, radio antenne become spears, and so forth.

Personality: Just, kind, geeky, and gentle.  Laid back, romantic, and protective.

*   *   *

Deadline is tomorrow! If you haven't, make sure you've made any last-minute changes you want to your sheet, and if you need me from anything PM-wise, today would be the time. If I have not replied to something you sent, absolutely poke me. :)

Just to check to be sure--have I gotten PMs to everyone that needed them? I want to try to give people as much time as possible. Roughly speaking, there's at least 12 hours left before I make decisions on who to accept. If you're unsure about anything, definitely poke me. I'll be online several hours tonight, and PMs about this interest check will be given priority for the next few hours.

And for those curious when the game will start once I make final selections for players--why, it'll start immediately after I make player selections. I have a fairly direct plot hook in mind to get every PC together and get the story going (and am likely to post it up in advance in a few hours), so once I pick my 6 players, we'll be off to the races.

Sheet looks great, Muse! Plus, I saw that Appearance specialty and just had to smile!

The actual 'big blue guy' in your original picture was okay; it was the presence of the young fae girl that was the slight issue. If there were a version of that image without the girl I'd absolutely accept it. If there isn't one, perhaps a new picture would be good. ^^

Muse

*nods* If I can't find another good one I'll trim it out.  i've been looking for images of a long haired beefy boy for his mortal seeming.  i don't think this guy is musuclar enough.

Blythe

I do like that one, but you might be right that maybe he's not beefy enough for the look you're going for!

(Either way, just as a reassurance, character pictures are not something that will affect my final selection of players so there's no rush for you to get a pic selected)

Blythe

Deadline!

I'm going to be honest, this is one of the hardest character selections I've ever had to do. Everyone submitted a good character--literally everyone. Whether or not you are one of the players I selected, please know that everyone did such a good job & I was so impressed by the quality of submissions! I had to try to balance taking people from the original check vs. the new submissions I got when I made a thread here, which added another layer of challenge for me.

My final selections:
- TheLaughingOne
- Marauder13
- Eobelle
- Muse
- Nadir
- Sparrowhawke

If you were not selected, if you are interested in being an 'alternate' that I contact in the advent an approved player needs to drop, please let me know here in-thread. It is also possible that if I become more comfortable with C20 and get in a posting groove, that I may later accept players again, so if you're interested in being contacted in that advent, again, let me know.

Congratulations to those who got in, and again, y'all gave me a serious round of decisions to make! You are all very quality creative people. <3

Approved players, you will be receiving a PM shortly with instructions. :)
