Purple Dusk

Over 15 years ago, explorers roaming the vast southern ocean discovered large island upon which, in ancient times, a small asteroid had crashed upon and managed to remain relatively intact.  Laden with rare and exotic starmetals, it quickly attracted prospectors who returned with bounties that convinced larger mining conglomerations to come and seek their fortunes by mining the asteroid of its wealth.  As more and more people came to Heaven's Fall, as the island became so named, the ramshackle mining colony grew into a town and as wealth began to flow through it in even greater torrents, the town became a city they named Kaer Maga.

Years have passed since then, almost without comment, but in recent weeks, the major mining houses have been issuing a call on the mainland for capable mercenaries to aid in dealing with the native wildlife that has began to become a serious issue to their business interests.  The promise of high pay has drawn many a prospective adventurer, mercenary, soldier, thug, and individuals of dubious intent to sail across the seas to claim a portion of the island's vaunted wealth.  Amongst this motley assortment, you and your companions are one of them.

Setting sail along with numerous others, the voyage of three weeks was well and fine until a sudden storm tore down the sails and ran the ship aground.  Fortunately it turned out not to be as serious as it sounded and biggest inconvenience to the expedition has been that you will have to walk the rest of the way to Kaer Maga – about two days by foot.  Along that journey, your group comes across the ruins of a settlement, one that expedition members decided to fortify and camp in for the night.  By chance, in the burnt down monastery you settle in, you discover a hidden passage to some underground chambers.  Perhaps you can start getting paid for you job early...

The story at its most basic.  As I've said before, this will start off as a one-shot dungeon trek rather than a campaign – 30% exploration, 30% survival, and 40% combat (mainly vanilla/unmodified enemies).  Basically, I'm looking to see if I can get a group of players that have some rapport with each other and have them get used to each others playing style in a relatively short and simple dungeon-romp, as well as being a chance to see if my GM style is compatible with them.

If at the end of this 20-30 room dungeon, everyone finds they are still wanting to go on, we can move on to a campaign proper.  For now, build a fun character you'd like to play.  I'll permit you to create new characters and replace your existing ones as you like, if the build you made isn't as suiting as you thought – for now this is all in fun and nobody should be taking things too seriously (i.e. why is the elf beside me suddenly a kobold? Why is the sorcerer suddenly a sword-wielding magus?  Etc, etc...).

  • Characters start at level 5.
  • Points-buy system for ability scores.  20 points usage.
  • Maximum hp roll at 1st level, and a fixed amount at subsequent levels equal to 1/2 HD +1 (i.e. 4 for d6s, 5 for d8s, 6 for d10s, 7 for d12s)
  • 12,000 gp in starting equipment
  • All official classes from published material acceptable.  No 3rd party material please.
  • No psionic classes (I love them dearly, but it's an added complication I don't want to deal with right now)
  • 2 traits per character, with 1 additional trait if drawback is taken
  • Magic users with spell books begin play with a number of spells equal to what they are entitled to at each level, plus 2 additional spells per level (i.e. 10 additional spells)

Despite being an extension of my Poll Group Check, anybody is welcome to show interest.  Feel free to post up your character concept and sheet, but keep in mind that I will have to choose 5 out of all applicants whom I'll post up.  If you're still interested in being part after I make a choice, let me know and I'll keep you on a reserve list in case any chosen players feel they need to leave for any reason.

In addition, since I'm new to Elliquiy's RP community, I have little knowledge of players here, so if you see a character posted up by a member whom you know to be a stable player, just PM me a recommendation (no recommendation for yourself please  ::)).  This is generally because I'd like stable players with some degree of commitment.  :-)

Thanks and hope to see some colourful characters!

Here's a submission for this game.

Name: Annastasia Blaze
Sex: female
Race: Human
Class: swashbuckler 5
Age: 24

Physical Description:
Annastasia can only be described as a voluptuous, vivacious young woman with long, thick midnight hair that falls almost to her waist that she usually keeps in a braide and eyes the color of cobalt. A heart shaped face with full lips and a straight, slightly upturned nose and well defined chin, she is an eye catcher wherever she goes. With a figure that flows from generous breast into a slender waist before flairing out into well rounded hips and tight ass, her long, lean legs blesses her with an unconscious grace that catches the eyes of just about everyone that she passes. Usually dressed in a low cut cream colored tunic and tight leather breaches that tuck into turned-down knee high boots, she is a vision with a roguish grin.

Personality:
Annastasia is a fun-loving woman who tries to live each day as if it were her last. Light hearted and outgoing, she firmly believes that if you waste one day, you may not have another and if the Gods didn’t intend you to enjoy life, they wouldn’t of given you one to live.  Easy going under most circumstances and unafraid to show her flirtatious, hungry side, she none the less has a temper that many walk carefully around. If you’re a friend, you’re a friend for life… if you’re an enemy… well, enjoy the few days that you have left.

Anna does possess a set of strong morals and principles and sticks to them in spite of all things. What those morals and principles may sometimes be in question, but the fact that she'll follow them is without doubt.

Background:
Anna, the daughter of a ship’s captain in the service to the crown, has strove all of her life for two things; to get her father’s approval and to break out from his shadow… usually in ways that wouldn’t get his approval if he actually realized what she was doing. A bit of a rebel in her attitudes, she’s made no secret that she loves men… many men… and hasn’t been all that particular about whether they have made vows or not. If they have wondering eyes and hands, it’s not her fault that their wives can’t… or won’t… keep track of those hands.

Anna set out on her own as soon as she could find a way out from under her parent’s roof and gravitated toward the exciting life of an adventurer and the sea when she could get away with it. Not a pirate, she really couldn’t say that she gave more than a passing respect to any-man’s law when things needed to be done and the legal way didn’t do the job, she’s none-the-less a good hearted woman with perhaps too much of a generous streak for her own good that tends to balance her wicked tendencies toward men in general.

Annestasia, in need of something new, a different challenge, took up the opportunity to see yet another new place and face new challenges. With the offer for good gold for good work, she set sai with others to see what the offer really had to offer, rapier and buckler in hand.

Still under construction, but it's the basics.

Description:
Aiko Konno's appearance

To those who see her Aiko is a goddess. Most of her Charmed associates find her beauty something to behold and those who don't usually are removed from her company. Standing about 5'1" she has flowing indigo black hair that keeps its Lustrous shine. A Regal battle Kimono adorns her frame and accentuates her c cup bust nicely. Wearing a band around her left thigh and a crown atop her head she exudes some of the noble blood that she was born with. Her golden eyes becoming an Entrancing Aqua whenever she uses her magic. The Flowing tail behind her and the ears atop her head covered in the same indigo black hair as her head adorns giving off the visage of an evil Ice queen to her enemies.

Personality: Aiko is a vain woman finding her beauty to be something that should be cherished. She cares little for the laws of the land nor does she desire to create chaos. Having suffered though the Disdain and scorn of her lineage since her banishment she looks out for herself first even if it would bring harm to those she's traveling with. She is a reliable companion though making sure the job assigned gets done.

Background:  Aiko was born in quite the uneventful way to a Knight and a tradeswoman in a bustling city deep in the Southwind Plains of Kolei. Having two older siblings both of which are female and very Human Aiko stood out like a sore thumb for the longest of times. A Kitsune had possessed her mother one day while on the road and Used the woman to seduce her father. The magical properties of the vixen were bound to the egg created by that night and thus Aiko was born. Her parents were scared at first, Fearing retribution in the form of banishment or execution for a girl born with both fox ears and a tail those Fears were slowly put to rest as the community around them were entranced by Aikos Naivete and innocence. This good fortune made its way deep into her childhood where Aiko met another kitsune this one older, More experienced. The Fox taught her how to control her powers, tempered her eagerness to "make things glow" and showed her a focus for her previously untamed powers. Thankfully nothing had been destroyed as she was younger but more than a few people had been charmed by the girl leaving them desiring to please her.

As she aged older into adolescence much quicker than her Siblings good fortune decided to fall upon her again. A knight of the land fresh back from the fame of war and the pride of victory laid his eyes upon her. Budding into quite the beautiful woman he courted her for sometime showering her with gift and training her in use of the crossbow. She became close friends with the knight and eventually let him into her life showing him her expertise in magicks. It wasn't Until later that she found and set her eyes on the first and last man to hold her heart. As the autumn leaves grew and the brisk air blew Aiko found herself enjoying the company of a Priest. The man kind in his words and firm in his convictions showed Aiko a kindness that she was mostly unused to. Her city lover her of course, residual effects of the Uncontrolled charm that she released as a child but outside such a place she felt the hot gaze of scorn.

The priest didn't return her affections so readily. Caring as he was he came off to be more the fatherly figure than the lover Aiko so desired. Desiring the man so fiercely the young girl started a plan of Innuendo Lies and blackmail that eventually drove the kindly man from his position as a priest. Once free from his fealty to the divine being she assumed that he would come to her. What happened was he grew into a saddened despairing man. it tugged at her heart seeing the man so defeated that she began work fixing what she broke. By the end of the next year he had been let back into the clergy and she had been banished for Seducing a man of the cloth. Disgraced she packed what little things she had and Left exploring the lands for a place in her life.

It took her some time but the girl found work as an adventurer delving dungeons and gathering her wealth. Walking openly in her natural form of a beautiful woman with fox ears and a flowing tail that matched her indigo hair she suffered both fear and Unfair treatment by her employers. Getting paid considerably less than the others it was only her powers of seduction and charm that kept her adventuring at times. Such powers were eventually used on a adventurer that had used her as a scapegoat. The adventurer was later found murdered. Poisoned by a consort he had bought with his ill gotten gains and his reward and goods were split among the party. Aiko gained her Handy Haversack that day as well as her companion Masaki Sagami.

The Gecko became one of her dearest companions as she adventured from then on. Her work as an Arcanist and her seducing technique started spreading to the populous gaining her titles that she would rather had been without. Even now she continues to adventure searching for Prestige. Her intentions were to gain the power to stay forever beautiful and young. Such artifacts clouded in legend enticed the vain woman. She continued to use her body to garner good will as well. Sometimes a minor knight other times a wealthy merchant. The flings never lasted long and were quickly forgotten. Her heart still held by that one priest from so long ago.

Can she even stand with that score, never mind walk under her own strength?

It is just barely possible to do so, since virtually all the weight is handle by the Efficient Quiver and Handy Haversack, though she may have to wear something other than a Noble's Outfit to manage it.  Once she starts taking things of the sack, weight also becomes a problem.  But it is doable from the brief glance that I've taken.  Plus, a noble-minded character, I'm sure she'll have her horse do all the heavy lifting  ::)

Other than that, keep 'em coming  :-)

From what I understand from all the games I've been in the clothes don't apply to weight when they're the outfit you're wearing. At least they never have with any gms that Ive played with.

Outside of that there's a reason I have a handy haversack and a efficient quiver Shes barely into the medium encumbrance bracket because all of her items are in one of those two items which weigh only 2/5 lbs respectively. If needed I can easily knock her down to the light encumbrance bracket by having my handy haversack be carried by Masaki

5 strength means that 16 pounds of weight is light encumbrance with my two items holding everything I'm only carrying 19.5 lbs

If this gm though wants me to count my worn outfit as weight as well then I will I'm still within the medium encumbrance bracket.

Yes you can someone with 1 strength can stand and walk under their own power you would have to have a strength of 0 to not be able to carry your own weight.

Well the rather large gecko yes :P. I can also remove 6 lbs of weight if I put the 3 bags of marbles in my belt pouch to the side pocket of my handy haversack and then another 5 if I put that Handy haversack on Masaki so 11 lbs can disappear in an instant if I need to climb anywhere (though if I'm climbing I'm just hopping right on Masaki and letting him carry me lol). Weight management isn't an issue and if I have to pull out my heavy crossbow to attack with then that means Ive run out of spells and arcane reservoir points. Probably means we are in some dire straights if I'm out of spells already.

1) Clothing weight does not apply when worn
2) For the same reason, a person's base weight does not affect their carrying capacity
3) She seems more than capable of getting someone else to carry junk for her, anyway.

also, I guess I'll hold off on my Dimensionally-sliding Arcanist for this one  ;D That's a fun exploit, innit?

It is a fun exploit though Ive got a specific idea for her so I'm taking a few non amaze exploits as well like the Force strike and Flame arc ones. Shes gonna be my seducer and i never got to play her in another game I made her for as it folded before it ever started >.<

True its something I'm going to work on remedying in game :3

no one ever said that people had to start out as Adonis's in game shes playable at the moment and there's ways to boost her strength a bit. Shes just more of a talker than a fighter that's all and her stats show that.

Ummm, who exactly is she going to be seducing? Animals or undead? ;)

I usually try to offer a balanced character so that it's not pidgeoned holed and of limited one trick kinda use.

The big problem with "fixing" things in game is that it usually requires magic and you're hoping that the GM is generous enough to give you that kinda specific item. I'm not saying not to play it, the options for replaying characters on a whim is there... but I personally don't like the option so I'll be playing Amelia all of the way through unless she gets killed... if she gets in. ;)

True if its really a problem I can remedy it quite easily with only a loss of 2 dex points wouldnt change anything else but lower me by 2 dex and raise me by 3 strength so yeah. Also She does have a Alter self racial illusion she could give off the appearance of not being as scrawny as she is and it would work out. Instead of it being a Humanoid change since shes already mostly humanoid shell just look a bit more healthy than she is.

KASSEY LEHANE
Diplomat, Healer and Jill-Of-All-Trades

[FLOATLEFT][/FLOATLEFT]
Gender: Female
Race: Human
Alignment: Neutral Good
Class: Cleric 5
Traits: Desperate Resolve, Seeker, Sacred Touch
Flaws: Overprotective
Ability spread: Str 13, Dex 12, Con 14, Int 14, Wis 16, Cha 12

Equipment: Bedroll, Blanket, Elixir of Swimming (2), Entertainer's Outfit (wearing), Grooming Kit, Healer's gloves, Healer's Kit (2), Silver Holy Symbol Flask, Ioun Torch, Masterwork Backpack, Masterwork Morningstar, Mithral Heavy Shield, Mithral Shirt [Glamoured], Ring of Sustenance, Traveler's Any-Tool.

Personality: Kassey is a fiery and just exemplar of her Goddess, seeking to care for the innocent, redeem the unsavory, and chase away the shadows with her holy light.  She bears the burden of outliving many of her fellow priests, those who the Goddess chose not to resurrect, which at times leaves Kassey to wonder if she too may one day be found wanting on the field of battle.

Having a Sister of Rapture for a mother, along with growing up around like-minded individuals has given Kassey an open outlook towards sexuality, provided it does not come at the cost of unwanted abuse.  She has lay with partners, both male and female from many races, however she has yet to find one with whom she might settle down and start a family with, but still hopes to one day be a parent.

Background: Kassey grew up within a temple of the infamous Sisters of Rapture, spending many of her years studying in their impressive library, with an upbringing tinged with sexual undertones and bare flesh; indeed her mother hoped that she would one day become a part of their Order, but Sarenrae had other plans for her.  The Dawnflower came to her in a vision only weeks before she was to join the Sisters, telling the young woman that her path was one of redemption and that she must walk a different path.

At the age of thirteen, her disappointed but supportive mother brought her to a temple of the Everlight; telling Kassey they she was proud of her and would always be there if her daughter needed her.  Over the next five years Kassey learnt the ways of her patron Goddess, helping those in the nearby farming communities and learning how to defend her flock in times of war.

Then, upon the dawning of her twenty-second year, Kassey left the safety of the temple to spread the word of the Goddess, guided by another vision.  Since then the red-head has crossed the lands and seas, drawing ever closer to fulfilling her purpose within Sarenrae's grand design.

If someone could check Kassey's sheet (I'm still making the transition from 3.5), I'd really appreciate it

Working on that kobold character! .w.; I see Blinkin wants to play a swashbuckler, which is similar to what I had in mind (I don't mind it though!)

Purple, how do you feel about firearms? can I draw up a bushwacker? they seem to be a good blend of nervous bravery a clanless kobold would need to become an adventurer.

hahah, yeah it has been awhile  ::) Ive been busy with work and generally not much into the mood to roleplay until very recently. Send me a PM sometime. I'm usually on about once a day.
Anyways, Here's the rough draft for the character. I'm still working on the details however.

Thwip Arkai

Race: Kobold
Sex: Male
Age: 17 years old
Height: 3'5"
Weight: 38 lbs

Class: Bushwacker (Kobold Archetype gunslinger)
Traits: Exiled, (tobedetermined)

Personality:
Thwip was kicked out of his home warren at a young age due to disabling his hometown's defenses so he could talk with some strangers he noticed were exploring their underground tunnels. It... didn't go well. His reckless curiosity is his damning flaw, but it's also defined Thwip early on in life. Playing with some borrowed black powder, Twhip discovered it's use for self defense purely by accident. Since then, he's scrounged up the money to buy the bits and bobs to create his very first firearm, and he's been tweaking and improving it ever since.

One of the things Thwip is NOT curious about in the slightest is magic. He has never had a good experience with magic, and is convinced he never will.

Despite his new life aboveground, he does regret the simple life he lived with his clan underground, and wishes to return. Part of the reason he even decided to become an adventurer is because exploring caves reminds him of his youth. the other reason is... well...

(note: would anyone be interested in being Thwip's superior? We'd work out some backstory of how I came to be your servant. On one hand, You'd get someone to boss around, if that's your thing. On the other hand, You'd be legally responsible for any bad business I might get into when you're not paying attention. And, we might feel a tad bit extra responsible for each other's well being or something, I dunno XD)

Like other kobolds, Thwip has few muscles for facial expressions, and usually relies on body language to express himself.

Appearance:
Thwip is slightly above average in size, compared to other kobolds. His skin coloration is yellow with orange details, a variety of spots and stripes. His eye color is emerald green, which shines reflectively in the dark. He wears overlaying strips of cloth and leather over his body and head, partly to hide what he has on him (usually something dangerous) and also to lower his profile. Most people think of kobolds as reactionary, xenophobic cave dwellers, and although Thwip does look the part, those who take to time to talk to him notice he's intelligent enough to not give into his people's race-hate. He's had to for survival, after all.

If Aiko gets accepted that can easily be arranged. Aiko's background is filled with living with races deemed evil to normal folk (goblins orcs kobolds lizardkin so on so forth) Could easily work it in.

Hmmm, looking at a Rogue with some sort of martial dip. One of the "Greenskin" races (Orc, half-orc, hobgoblin, or "oversized goblin" from Monster Codex)

Something to ponder at work, I guess.

I tend to think that the kits leave you missing things that you have to buy to cover what it's suppose to be... like tents.

There is also the question of who gets in after planning something like this and what parts of the kit might get in. I would prefer to just get a hatchet and a tent, a pot and mess kit. Carrying wood in, when you'll be in a forest, sort of pointless.

So, need to update the character's equipment a bit.

That's what a handy Haversack is for. Just stuff the tent (broken down) into it and go. They're fairly roomie all in all. Not as roomie as a bag of holding, but weight less. It's a trade off.

Does extra-dimensional space protect the contents from exposure to the elements, such as water or fireballs? (yes, Fireballs is an element)

Yes. They're on a different plane.

Which is where that fireball becomes a bit nasty as you watch your handy haversack or bag of holding burn... muhahaha

I remember a AD&D 2nd ed. game many, many years ago inwhich one of our players had a dwarf who took greed to a whole new level. He had a bag of holding, and seemed to never have any coinage, no matter what we got as loot, when it came time to replace things, get rooms in an inn, etc, his donations to a party fund was always a lot more coming out than going in. The players knew this, the characters knew this, but ultimately couldn't do anything about it. The two rules that my games live by (You don't steal from companions, and you don't try to kill companions) pretty much meant that we just forced him to pay for his own stuff... which somehow he always managed to not do.

The DM got annoyed about this after several months and one night, had a thief steal the bag of holding, along with the thousands in gold, gems and general loot that the dwarf had snuck in over the adventure. The dwarf gave chase, but an accidental fireball from our wizard cooked the thief, and the bag as we all tried to stop him... No more gold, no more gems, no more "borrowed" food from inns and so on. Admittedly, at the time, I didn't think that a fireball could harm a bag-of-holding, but I was wrong. I actually felt bad for turning the greedy bastard into a palper... for a few minutes.

The dwarf, of course, found the bag of holding after his backpack, stuffed to bursting with gold coins, dropped the bag one time too many and the sides split out of it... on a city street... so what little he recovered went into buying a very expensive bag of holding... which got stolen and burned. Did the dwarf learn a lesson? What do you think? ;)

How much powder are you expecting to need? A couple of pounds should do you for weeks. The average load for a breach loading pistol is only about an ounce, usually less.

+Kassey's Character Sheet+
If someone could check Kassey's sheet (I'm still making the transition from 3.5), I'd really appreciate it

Well looking it over heres a few things to start with.

- Your Shield and your armor aren't fully filled out the Shield is missing the max dex and speed and the armor is missing speed (even if they don't change it messes with the sheet a tad in other places if not filled out like for example your AC is 1 short because the dex isnt being read.)

- Your armor type would be considered Light also changes some things on the sheet

- you have 5 skill points over what you can have for your class. 2 +int = 4 + 1 for fast learner so 5 the fast learner counts for your favored class

- (not really wrong but some advice) might want to spend a few more of your gold on things like wands or something like that. Wands can be bought via per charge at 15 gp X Spell level X caster level (ie for a Sorcerer to make a wand of fireball its 15 x 3 x 6 or 270 gp per charge)

Fighter gets: 2 skill points per level:
Int mod (13-14) gets you 2 skill points
Human gets you 1 skill point
Fast Learner gets you the option of 1 skill point (or 1 favored class feature+1 skill point, 1 skill point and 1 HP or 1 HP and 1 feature)

S... 2+2+1+1=6 per level.

"That's not six. "

"One plus two plus two plus one. "

"Uh-uh, there was only one shot that got the chandelier. That's one plus two plus *one* plus one. "

"Even if you were right, that would be one plus one plus two plus one, not one plus *two* plus one plus one. "

Oh yeah your right I forgot about the Skilled trait... so never mind on the skills part the other one is a quick fix other than that it looks good... I'm not sure about the spells though cause I'm not sure if you get the extra 10 spells like i do.

I think clerics get to choose from all the spells each day they don't have restrictions to what is considered a known spell and what is not. but dont quote me on that.

Seems like everyone has taken care of each others queries, so great teamwork everyone!  I'll be letting the recruitment period go on for a few more days, say up to Friday, before making final decisions regarding character choices.

Whilst any character is fine for this one shot adventure, it should be noted that if we do go on for a campaign, I'd recommend humanoid characters (or those who can pass for one), simply because they'll be the one's to get the most out of it (mainly because it's what I'm most familiar with).

Here's my application in progress, character sheet except for gear: http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheetview.php?sheetid=1109316

Feasts-On-The-White's-Liver "Vivian DeWheatley"
Female Mermaid Heavy Metal Chaotic Neutral BloodRager

Description: A mermaid with the upper body of an amazon warrioress and a long, almost serpentine tail. On land she usually carries herself between six to seven feet tall. She wears a royal-looking diadem upon her head and wields a trident with three wickedly sharp points. Her voice is clear, melodious and authoritative, with a singing voice to make a siren envious.

Personality: Cynical, easily angered, and used to getting her way. But behind that exterior is an extremely driven and calculating princess-in-exile, who is slowly setting pieces into motion as part of a master plan to serve revenge, very cold.

Background: Born (or hatched?) to the chief of a tribe of mermaid barbarians, she proved her ferocity and martial prowess at a young age. At her coming-of-age ceremony she killed a great white shark and devoured its liver, an impressive task that earned her the name "Feasts-On-The-White's-Liver". At the same time she possessed a singing voice that few mortals, merfolk or otherwise, could match. Skilled in both the ways of war and peace and considered by all her subjects to be the herald of a coming golden age for her tribe, she never had the chance to inherit her birthright as the rightful heir to the chiefdom of her tribe. On the night of a sacred feast, a raiding part of Sahuagin launched a cowardly raid on her tribe, either killing or enslaving all the mermaids in the tribe except for her - and she herself only escaped a similar fate thanks to the sacrifices of her most faithful friends and bodyguards with whom she had grown up with.

Homeless, tribeless and friendless, she formed a plan to wreak vengeance upon the Sahuagin, but she knew she would only be able to do it with lots of help. So she took on the dangerous life of an adventurer, and the name of "Vivian DeWheatley" as a corruption of her true name, to find the fame and fortune she would need to return to the waters of her birthplace with an army at her back to bring long-delayed an long-deserved justice upon her old foes. The sea was too dangerous for her to seek her fortune there, her status as the last of her tribe making her an even greater prize for the evil hunters eager to get their webbed hands on her, forcing her to take up her travels upon dry land. She still sings her songs in the dark watches of the night, singing of the sorrows and remembrances of friends and family lost, to carry over the winds to wherever their spirits now dwell.

So Ive given it some honest thought worked around my points a bit and decided I shall go with the slightly more naive approach and drop wisdom down 2 to up Strength by 3.

(if your curious how this works it was really drop int down 1 up strength by 1 and cha by 1 then drop wis by 2 and up strength another 2 add my 4th level skill bonus to int and I keep my mental stats but now have stronger strength)

Was a tossup between Dexterity and wisdom though in the end I decided wisdom could take the hit easier than dexterity.

:D least now I'm not one poison away from death.

Currently working up a Brawler (Steel-Breaker) Human for the game.  I'll have something concrete up tomorrow.

Dynamod

trying to make a bushwacker work is... difficult. On one hand, grit-free sneak attack damage promotes making as many attacks as possible. On the other hand, you can't use stealth to go unnoticed after full-round actions unless the action includes movement. Leaping Shot feat lets you make movement while attacking, but you only get to make two attacks at max, then you fall prone, not to mention you need dodge and mobility to get it. '~'

Kobolds get a feat which supports sniping, but sniping requires a move action, so you can only do a single attack.

reduced max grit is also a thing as well to worry about. I need at least 16 wisdom in order to have 2 grit, so I can have at least one point to expend.

in short... still working on the character. might change away from bushwacker, because Pistolero gets the precision damage easier without losing out on potential feats each level, and musketeer gets a free feat to deal with reloading as well.

Ideally, I'd like to go for a stealth based gunslinger. Still trying to figure out how to make it work though.

Name: Ogzi Thorn
Race: Half-Orc
Class: Rogue 4 / Something 1
Sheet: http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheetview.php?sheetid=1108404 (still WIP)

Description: Ogzi isn't like your other half-orcs. His muscles don't bulge, his teeth don't jut, and he can certainly speak better than a grunt here and there. Rather, he's a lithe, agile young man, green skin taut over lean muscle. Pointed ears poke through wild hair that combines shades of green, brown, and black, save for a pale streak noting where a scar lies on his scalp. He's quick to smile and laugh - or to growl and snap, putting his sharper-than-human teeth on display either way. he usually wears rather little by way of clothing or armor when he can, and his skin shows the scratches and bruises of a life in the wilderness. Exposed on his left side is a winding tattoo, the same yellow-orange shade as his eyes.

Personality: Though wary of strangers, Ogzi makes friends quickly (maybe so long on his own has something to do with that.) He's self-assured to the point of cockiness, and like many young men his age, doesn't really understand that he can fail. He's eager to join combat, though more due to the rush and opportunity to show off, than any actual like of hurting people. Due to his past, he's suspicious of magic, particularly magic of a divine nature.

Background: Ogzi's story begins in an Orcish village somewhere in the island of Heaven's Fall (though his people know it by a different name.) The seer at his birth proclaimed that due to his mixed nature, he would never be a warrior, and htat Ogzi should be remanded to the tribe's shaman's. And so hit was. Whether by taking a stronger inheritance from his human father, or due to the shaman's training, he grew up tough, but not especially strong. Every day a new ritual awaited him, a new burden to bear, more skin cut and painted with his tribe's marks.

Ogzi strove to be like the other orcs; big, strong, warlike, ferocious. he never quite matched up to them. Usually he never even came close, and the other males joked that his mother was really a goblin. After a while of taunts of this nature, he decided, alright, let's fight like a goblin; His orcish "peers," so used to trouncing the boy with brute strength, were unpleasantly surprised when he began fighting dirty, using his wits and agility against them. of course, nothing is angry like an orc who took a good hit to the nuts, so Ogzi still got his share of batterings and broken bones.

Finally, he was fed up with the life he suffered; to be abused and near-tortured by the shamans on the one hand, then to be bullied and beaten by warriors on the other. it was under a new moon that he slipped away into the deeper forests of ht island, to live as his own prerogatives told him. And so he has, hunting, fishing, gathering his own food and building shelters to keep out of the island's sometimes-fierce weather.

it was some of that weather that brought him where he is now; a foreign ship ran aground on one of the rocky shoals near "his" beach. Noting that these strangers were too many to fight or flee from, Ogzi has decided to make friends, offering the stranded adventurers a portion of his food, and to act as scout and guide. And of course, he's heard their talk of riches and adventure, and without a doubt, his curiosity is piqued...

Still getting some of the kinks out - like what class to take a 1-level dip in (Ranger / Barbarian seems most fitting) and what direction I want to take him for combat.

Purple Dusk

If he's going dual kukri wielding and rogue, maybe you might want to multi into a Slayer? (Advanced Class Guide)  Come to think of it, the Slayer is a cross between a Rogue and Ranger, so maybe even a full Slayer? (since his backstory mentions he tried to match up to the martial prowess of his orc cousins)

Blinkin

Isn't it going to be kinda hard to sneak about after firing off a firearm, they are, afterall, very noisy and produce a ton of smoke... it's going to set you up for every ranged attack in the area and sneaking away from that is going to be difficult with everyone looking in that direction... and sneak attacks have a maximum range so there's that issue. I'm not sure a "Bang!" tip-toe off to go "Bang!" again is going to work out for you.

I'm not sure about the kukris. I might fiddle around with sword-and-board dual wielding (sneak attack with a shield? Why not!) and even going two-hand whacking is an option. Slayer is just so terribly boring to me, and doesn't really fit Ogzi in my head. Thanks though :)

I have a couple of ruling questions:
1:it says that you can use a two handed weapon while holding a buckler. You still can't use a buckler and a weapon in the same turn correct? Im assuming thats the case, it makes sense from a gameplay perspective.
2: when using dragons breath Ammunition you misfire on a damage roll of 1 instead of the attack roll. Can a reliable blunderbuss reduce this chance to 0?
3: in the above scenario, do you get to modify the damage dealt at all? Does dragons breath just replace your damage dice or is it basically alchemists fire all over again?

To clarify, dragons breath is special ammunition that makes your spread attack deal 2d6 fire damage (reflex 15 for half) instead of the normal attack roll. Almost all alchemist cartridges increase your odds to misfire by about 5 or 10%, but these misfire about 32% of the time.

In any case, ive thought it over tonight ill have thwip be a musketeer. Small arms seem to lend themselves better to the snap shot feat tree, while the larger weapons seem to prefer single shot, big damage feats which i think is more in line with how thwip prefers to fight. I wanna follow the spirit of bushwacker without the crappy trades '~'

Unless you're a thunderstriker barbarian, correct, you can't use a two-handed weapon and get the benefits of the buckler. It's a per-round thing. Like "This round I'm using my buckler, next round I'll use my two-handed weapon"

Quote2: when using dragons breath Ammunition you misfire on a damage roll of 1 instead of the attack roll. Can a reliable blunderbuss reduce this chance to 0?

Reliable is an effect on the firearm. It has no effect on the properties of ammunition. It's gonna give you a misfire if you roll 1's on the damage no matter what.

Quote3: in the above scenario, do you get to modify the damage dealt at all? Does dragons breath just replace your damage dice or is it basically alchemists fire all over again?

The latter. If you have a trait or feat that lets you do extra damage with fire or alchemical weapons, that would apply but otherwise, you're basically stuffing alchemist's fire into your gun and pulling the trigger like a lunatic.

Wow, excuuuse me~ im not just stuffing alchemists fire fown the tube like a lunatic.

...theres also the black powder which makes it explode. So yeah. Perfectly sane.

(I am beginning to see why the chance to break the weapon is so high)

Well, muzzle loaders were still having the occasional catastrophic failure well into the last quarter of the 19th century... after having centuries of refinement. In this kind of setting, they're still more a danger to the user than the target and "state of the art" was code for where angels fear to tread.. ;) Just imagine how nasty it could be if the thing actually blew up in your face because you tapped that dragon's fire too hard. lol

Mort "Riddle" Sevryn
The Explosives Expert
Level 5 Tiefling Alchemist

Background:
The most important discovery the young Tiefling ever made was the miraculous ability to focus light through a magnifying glass to incinerate little ants.  Thus began a life full of learning and scientific discovery.

Magic, he began to feel, was an excuse to not learn about the world and the way it worked.  Of course magic was a part of the world, but there was a way to quantify it, measure it, and know it in ways that Wizards and Sorcerers and their ilk did not know.  He dismissed it out of hand as something not worth his attention, and instead focused his mind on the building blocks of the world and the alchemical components that could be created from them.  He dove into the study of philosophy and the development of his mind first and foremost, which left him less able-bodied than some others--and somewhat bookish, though he still managed to strike up good conversations from time to time.

His bombs were an invention from necessity as he grew restless with his books and decided "field experimentation" was required.  So he set out as something of an adventurer, offering up his alchemical skills while developing them in further ways that he couldn't do in a lab.  His knowledge of engineering was, of course, indispensable when traps in the dark parts of the world needed to be "disarmed".

When the sky stone had fallen he found himself wanting to journey early on to the island to get a look at it and study it, but it would be years until he found himself free enough to journey there with a good enough an excuse--they were calling for help!  Of course helping is all well and good, but the greater good is always served best by uncovering some new piece of lore.  So the brilliant Tiefling set off in the pursuit of knowledge (and maybe a little personal wealth).

Personality:
Part Mad Scientist, part Explorer, he is an eccentric individual who enjoys learning new things about the world.  Skeptical of conventional "magic" he tends to put more faith in his own discoveries and scientific advancements rather than the esoteric craft of finger wiggling--of course he's quite open to talking about the various arts.

Appearance:
Red skin, horns growing from his brow, and glowing yellow eyes are just a handful of his other-worldly traits.  He dresses in typically scholarly looking (even if only vaguely) clothing and typically has a number of vials strapped to his belt, or potions slipped into pockets.

Tatia Berrioategortua
Level 5 Human Brawler (Steel-Breaker)

Background: Tatia never knew her parents, both of them having died in a cave-in while mining when she was barely more than a year old.  She was raised by her uncle, who was a blacksmith and a bachelor, not at all suited to the raising of a girl child.  However, he did his best, with the help of a pair of spinster sisters who lived next door and were all too happy to care for the girl while her uncle was at work.  The older she got, the more time she spent away from the sisters and in her uncle's workshop, staying out from under foot and helping where she could.  As a result, she grew up with an appreciation for strength and power, rather than the more feminine pursuits of hearth and home.

When she was old enough, and against the protests of her uncle, she took a job in the mines.  The decision was largely based on her fear of the underground that had stolen her parents from her before she ever got the chance to know them.  She was determined to face her fear head-on and overcome it, viewing her claustrophobia as a weakness that she simply could not abide.  After several weeks in which her extreme anxiety gradually lessened to nervousness and then disappeared altogether, she discovered an inherent skill and pleasure for the work.  Her uncle explained this with tales of a Dwarven ancestor, stating that her mother had also enjoyed the mines, which was why she'd gone back to them after giving birth.

Mining further strengthened the muscles that Tatia had developed by helping her uncle in his blacksmithing, and nights spent carousing with the other miners gave Tatia a taste for pugilism.  Granted, at first her forays into boxing were limited to barroom brawls and the occasional amateur match fueled by betting and booze, but it wasn't long before her raw skill drew the attention of a well-trained brawler.  She took to the training he provided, and eventually her trips to the bars after a long day in the mines grew fewer and further between, though they never stopped altogether.  She began spending her days underground and her nights developing her jabs and footwork, learning to spot her opponent's weaknesses and exploit them to her best advantage.

When she learned of the troubles in Kaer Maga, she decided to set out for its shores.  She felt it was time to put her training to good use, and protecting a city of miners from the dangers of the wild seemed the ideal chance.

Personality: Tatia is quite pleasant company, quick to smile and friendly.  While not dazzlingly intelligent, she has an undeniable cunning and a wealth of amusing stories about life in her home town.  When she is relaxed, one can not find a more enjoyable companion with which to past the time drinking, singing off-key, trading bawdy limericks or commiserating over one's troubles.  However, when angered or focused on a goal, there is little sign of the fun-loving good-ol'-girl.  Many have witnessed the transformation, and few who have would dare trigger it again.  Tatia is a proud woman, and a slight against that pride can cause a dramatic shift in her demeanor, changing a smile to a terrifying glower and an open hand to a closed fist.  When angered her penetrating eyes and pretty, if roughened, visage can strike fear into the heart of even the most foolish men or monsters.

Appearance:  Tatia is not classically beautiful, too scarred, weathered and powerful to ever conform to the conventional ideals of feminine beauty.  Her features are pleasingly arranged, and her body, while well-muscled, doesn't entirely lack the soft curves expected of the female form.  However, her hands are calloused and battered from her work in the mines and her years of using her fists to prove a point or win a bet.  Freckles smatter her face and form, scattered across the landscape of tanned and scarred skin that molds to toned muscles.  Her thick hair is the color of strong coffee, softer than one might expect and often braided or tousled without a care for style.  It contrasts with the golden-green color of her eyes, which reflect the strength of her will, the force of her personality and the shadows of experience that have molded her, normally sparkling with amusement or curiosity, they can easily darken and sharpen to pierce the resolve of even the most stalwart opponent.

Complete!

It's really up to how the players want to play their charisma stat, but yes you're right as well. I really don't think having a low charisma makes you look ugly, but it just means you can't carry yourself at social gatherings. You get flustered, and subconciously shrink yourself. Characters with high charisma still might be especially beautiful however, and that might even be why their precense is so high to start with, before social skills were developed growing up.

Charisma means sheer force of presence.

Someone with 18 CHA can be the ugliest motherfucker in the room, but when they speak people listen. At the other end of the spectrum, someone with 8 CHA could be gorgeous, but people are more interested in the thing between their legs than anything they have to say.

I think I discovered just where Im tripping everyone up XD.

I consider beauty to be more than looks you don't have to have a DD Hourglass shape with a plush smack-able Derriere to be beautiful to me if you have the personality.

There's Physical beauty and then there's mental/emotional beauty. I usually weigh both in equal amount when i say the word beauty so for Aiko specifically.

Yes shes beautiful she's actually quite vain about her appearance, she can be selfish at times but she is charming and understanding when she wants to be. If you're a friend you'll never have someone more loyal, if your an enemy shell probably use that charm to get what she wants out of you and then chuck you like last weeks refuse.

First thing i can already see about it :3

Your elven curved sword is a 2 handed weapon therefore you do 1.5 strength for it so it would be 1d10+3 not 1d10+2

Might even want to just put the attack bonus at 8 and add the Power attack of 4 to the weapon as well chances are if you're heading into melee you'll want that extra 4 points of damage.

I'm liking how hes coming out though already there shall be much debate wither we should stay in the law to accomplish or goals or say screw the law and accomplish the goals that much quicker between us.

EDIT:

Same with deadly aim might as well drop attack down 2 and add 4 to the damage to your bow too.

Like how Varsuuvius signed a contract with demons for the chance to stop that lich who killed his friend, you know?

To be honest I wouldn't say Aiko is loyal to the team. Shes about as loyal as Belkar is. So long as the things the party does furthers her own goal to eventually have a kingdom of her own she's loyal. If the goals of the team start actively going against that though she might need convinced to give it her time.

Certain people on the team she would be loyal to directly like if you and I are on the team she wouldn't leave Thwip behind to save her own hide. She'd be having Masaki grab the kobold and dash off with both of them.

That's the selfish side of her shes helpful and loyal but only so long as the means help lead her to the goal.

Well, point of design, my guy's not exactly "part of the team" - he helped fish them out of the water, and has basically signed on as scout / guide, and is most definitely driven by the possibility of gold. And fame. And skirts.

As Kassey's Traits and Flaw suggest, she's concerned with preventing everyone around her from dying.  Perhaps she faces a losing battle, as a test of faith from the Goddess of Resurrection herself.

Kassey's is a story of perserverance and hope, doing what she can till her time passes; whilst her loyalty is above question amongst those who work on the side of good.

Ultimately, her story only grows darker with every death she fails to prevent or undo, leaving her with nothing but memories and ghosts.

Nys Vendatti
Elven Transmuter
116 years old, 5'8", 150 lbs.

Nys' Background

Nys Vendatti (Niss Venn dot ee) is the young scion of the Vendatti clan, a group of elves committed to trade, diplomacy and neutrality.  The clan has a long history as nomads and craftsman, and several hundred years ago used their travels and knowledge toward trade.  They now stand as a wealthy group with a mixed reputation: they are known to trade with anyone, for anything.  They are the source turned to for the exotic, strange, or blatantly illegal.  Recently they’ve gained both renown and condemnation as sellers of exceptional slaves.

The physical appearance of the clan – silver hair and black nails - is said to derive from a history as dusk elves coupled with an influx of drow heritage, as they utilized marriage unions to gain entry into the markets of the underworld.  Relations are maintained to this day, and the Vendatti clan routinely roam the upper tunnels of the underdark.  Nys himself spent many summers during his youth with his beloved "Nana," a drow matriarch and the sister of his grandfather, the closest pure drow in his line.  Despite her fearsome reputation in the underdark, Nys is very fond of his Nana and often recounts stories of his adventures, mostly beginning with some sort of misbehavior - this sometimes gives him a unique viewpoint of understanding societies that don't adhere to the philosophies of men.

As the only son of the Highlord Varthen Vendatti, a remote and stern if loving man, Nys was raised with a certain expectation to one day assume a role of leadership within the clan.  Despite this, the long lives of elven kind imply any ascension to serious leadership is centuries away.  Varthen holds noble titles from many lands, given as reward or purchased for the convenience of nobility, and some devolve to Nys as well; however, they put little stock in them, and the only one Nys views as anything more than a credential is his clan title: the Silver Prince of the Vendatti.  His training has been long and practical, including swordplay, magic and business.  He's also developed a talent for body art, including temporary and permanent inks.

Now still a young adult by elven standards, Nys is nevertheless well traveled and much older than most mortals he encounters.  As the only son of the Highlord, expectations of him are high – possibly unachievably so.  He is impatient and reckless by elven standards although most short lived races don’t have the same perspective on time.  He has never felt any lack of bravery or honor, though he views them much differently than traditional nobility.  Risk is foolish without promise of return and bringing the clan profit and success is the highest form of duty.  He'll certainly help the damsel in distress: he just won't be suicidal about it, and failure to compensate him for the deed, at least within their capability, would be offensive.

Nys joined the current expedition less for the promise of a mercenary's pay - sizable though it may be - and more for the opportunity to be paid to explore the potential for a business venture to Kaer Maga.  This isn't to say his magical powers aren't impressively destructive, of course.

Clan is the one thing sacred to Nys; nearly every action is weighed for its benefit to the family, and betrayal is unthinkable.  He would sacrifice anything to protect them – especially for his two younger sisters.

Orientation: Nys is strictly dominant, and primarily heterosexual.

& Olivia Vendatti
Raven Familiar
A black raven with a single silver feather
Or sometimes human, early 20's, 120 lbs, 5'5", auburn hair and green eyes

Olivia's Background

Nys' familiar is a Raven named Olivia; as with other raven familiars she speaks common, with a lovely feminine voice.  In personality she is a foil to her master, beloved but also a frequent source of frustration; where he is affable and diplomatic, she enjoys shocking others with periodic vulgarity and pranks.  Although bisexual, Nys has forbidden her from touching other men: something she finds "rather fucking annoying," but abides by with the dedication of a true submissive.  She is surprisingly (and rather pointlessly) kleptomaniac and often steals anything shiny and small that's left out, usually abandoning it once bored (although she is more capable of judging value than most humans, this rarely influences her desires.  She particularly prizes mirrors - she's a bit of a narcissist - bits of glass, beads, buttons, and coins).  She lives moment to moment, with no long term goals and a somewhat childish lack of foresight.

Several years ago, Nys crafted a unique magical item for Olivia: a silver feather that allows her to alter her shape at will.  Although the shapes available to her are many, her favorite is a pale human woman.

Nys is a creature of civilization, manners and logic; violent barbarity is a bit lost on him.  Besides that, he would do anything for his family, including Olivia; a true tragedy would see him knowingly sacrifice himself to protect them.

...In addition, since I'm new to Elliquiy's RP community, I have little knowledge of players here, so if you see a character posted up by a member whom you know to be a stable (edit: and committed) player, just PM me a recommendation...
That would really help me immensely.  Thanks!

I'd like to help, but as this is only my second Pathfinder related application on E! I haven't played with many of these folks before, sorry.

Blinkin

Annastasia, as having experience in being part of a ship's crew and aware of what happens if you don't stand together when the sea itself is against you, isn't so much a team player as simply aware that you take care of your team mates and she'll take care of you. She really doesn't have a "dark" side so much as a practical and ruthlessly pragmatic point of view. She enjoys life to the most that she can because she knows that it may very well be her last. In any situation, she'll literally stand over your unconscious body and defend it until the last because she would like to believe that you would do the same. If you would or not may effect future dealings, but that's a point for tomorrow... if there is one... If you try to stab her in the back in some way... refusing to engage when the party needs you, walking away when you started something... just being a bitch for no reason when you don't know her... things may turn out differently. But, overall, she views a party much like a ship's crew, and it's the sea against you and no one stands up against it alone.

On the topic of characters either not wanting to be part of something, or not wanting to be "there"... this is a bit of a pet peeve for me and it bleeds off into the character as the character sees things the same way. If you don't want to be here, then why are you here? You're free to go off on your own at any time and I'm not going to go out of my way to say, "no, don't go." more of a "Here's the boot, have a good life."

Anyway, if you show that you're trustworthy, then you'll get her trust and her loyalty.

#94
Name: Kastell

Background:

Within the mainland there are many nobles; some of them aloof and disdainful of the common citizens and serfs, others more friendly, open and sympathetic to listening to the woes brought before them. But amidst them, there were few more diverse than the family that bore Kastell. The telling of this tale though goes back further, to his parents. One, an elf maiden of almost two-hundred years, warm and kind to the people beholden to her, the other a human lad barely out of his teens, cold and aloof. Their marriage was not one of love or passion, but rather of necessity and politics, seeking to bridge the strife between the elf and human lands.

It was an uneasy truce, and though the couple kept up the appearance that all was well with them, there were often arguments behind closed doors--that the maiden was too forgiving of wrongs, that she did not have the strength of will to make hard decisions, or that the lad, no a virile young man, was as cool as ice and as hard as a rock with no passion or sympathy for anyone but his own poltiical gain and the stability of his domain, preferring what was politically correct over what was just.

It was no wonder, then, that they seldom bedded together, and oftimes they would part ways for a time, the man following his own pursuits among the wenches that filled the taverns and streetwalkers that prowled the streets at night, for he was a man, and as such had needs that were only rarely fulfilled by his wife. He barely made effort at keeping these visits from her knowledge, and few lacked the knowing of his infidelity, though none dared to speak it to her aloud.

It smote her heart and angered her to see him like this, but there was no one she could confide in, having left her own ancestral lands and people to dwell among his. And so she was left distraught and lonely. Time passed, yet finally she made a friend; a half-orc guardsman. The guardsman was an old adventurer who now dwelt within the lord's house for he had long since stopped his wanderings out in the wide world and now his heart longed for a place to call his own, a place to warm himself by a hearthfire without the need to prepare to journey on the morrow. It was he who opened himself to the lady, and oftimes they were deep in conversation of his past deeds, and her own rulings among her own people.

Not much time passed before they fell from enjoying each other's company into a calm acceptance of one another, and shared pleasure in each other's flesh and warmth as well. From this union was born Kastell, though the lord took the babe to be his own son, born from the few times he had bedded his lady, and none disagreed with him for his wrath could be most terrible.

And so Kastell grew, and was trained in letters, figuring, weapons, and magic as any of the nobility should be. Yet there was always an air about him, as though he had a purpose greater than the cold keep within which he dwelled. Time passed and he reached his majority, and then struck out on his own for a time. It was during this wandering that he found his true calling, enacting good upon an unjust and cruel world where people could not defend themselves. It always brought a smile to his face and warmed his heart when he heard the thanks of the common folk after an unsuccessful orc raid and the like.

It was on his travels that he encountered another paladin, Mylla. They both traveled together, fitting well together. Their talk was comfortable, and a camaraderie grew between them. So much so that a deep respect for each other grew between them. Their relationship never went deeper than the clasping of hands or a hug after a nearly mortal situation, at least physically, but together they travelled for a long time and he learned of her just as she learned of him.

She told him of the city which she had made her home, Kaer Maga, and of the wonders she had seen that seemed to sprout about where the asteroid had fallen. She had bid those lands goodbye for a time, but had begun to feel a calling and longing for her homeland, one that was quickly becoming urgent. Kastell wished he might join her, but he knew that he had pressing matters to, that he must prepare to become the heir to his father's house.

Finally, the time was coming when they would have to part ways, he to his noble house, and she back to her home. She agreed to accompany him, for he wished to introduce her to his mother, and she agreed before they set out towards his ancestral lands. But all was not as it seemed.

When they reached his home, something was amiss. Blood covered the stone floors and bodies lay strewn upon the cobbles, guards and soldiers he had grown up with, and even serving folk. Rushing into the keep with sword in hand and Mylla at his side, he found his father kneeling atop the body of a recently-slain guardsman, breath ragged and slowly dying of the dozens of wounds received that should have already put him down. A single word snarled at his son passed his lips. "Bastard!" There was so much venom and hate in the word that Kastell reeled back, almost as though it were a blow that might bring him to his knees, but before he could speak a syllable, his father expired, dead at his feet.

A noise reached them, a whimper of fear, and he and Mylla found one survivor, a goat girl who tended one of the flocks upon the property. She relayed to him what had happened, that the old half-orc had finally succumbed to a disease, and only afterwards his lady Mother had divulged to her lord of Kastell's parentage and her own betrayal. She had been the first he had killed in his rage, before going on to slaughter every other person in the keep he could find, continuing to fight on despite the wounds he took from a dozen slashes. She had escaped only because of her quick feet and small form, allowing her to hide in a cupboard and watch helplessly at the rampage.

It smote his heart to hear of it, and more to hear of his mother's act of betrayal. She had spoken of it only after the old guardsman had left this world so that her love would not have to suffer even if the truth were let out. He knew that his father had sired a dozen bastards out in the nearby town at the foot of the keep, and that each one was as conniving and scheming as the next, ready to snatch any advantage possible. And he, who had previously been the rightful heir to his father's land, was in no better position than the others to take possession of the keep and surrounding lands.

And so he left with Mylla. Her words could not lift his dour mood. Finally she was brought to shouting telling him to snap out of it. He lifted heavy eyes to her, red with unshed tears, and begged her to allow him to rejoin her on her journey home, for there was nothing left to him here. She argued with him, telling him he should stay and see the keep was properly tended, but he knew in his heart that he had no will to do so, and that he could do no more here in his father's lands. Finally she acquiesed, and together they began to make their way towards the city of Kaer Maga.

Personality: Before the death of his mother, Kastell was a sweet and gentle youth, always ready to protect the meek and the downtrodden. Much of this still lies within him, but her death twisted him into something... dangerous. A cruel streak, half-an-inch wide and a league deep has formed within him, and while it rarely comes out, it sometimes spills into his mind, coloring his actions with a malicious hue. Because his code of conduct does not follow that of most paladins, this has not interfered with his heavenly powers, though this might change should he step too far off of the straight-and-narrow.

Appearance: A tall man now, Kastell eschews the armor commonly worn by those who have felt the call. Instead he wears only light clothes made for the Summer of his homeland regardless of the current weather, appearing comfortable even in very hot or cold areas, though sometimes the way the sun seems to shine flashes across virtually transparent ice that encompasses his torso, a testament of his sorcerous heritage. He has a comfortable way with words, both diplomatic and deceptive, and while he never truly outright lies, he has found himself bending the truth or staying silent and leading people on with only facial expressions to allow them to reach the conclusion he would like them to.

Role: Party face, front-line tank, healing, utility. Kastell is a jack of all trades, yet master of none. He can heal the wounds of the hurt, protect his friends with conjured sheets of ice to ward off blows, stand toe-to-toe with the fiercest of monsters, and speak his way past problems, yet very few of these can he do as well to someone dedicated to the specific art. Whether you need someone to help with the healing, face enemies head-on, or activate a found wand, he is a strong fifth wheel that can fit most roles as needed.

Of the people applied that I know here:

Ghostwheel: Played with them before and still do in another game

eBadger: Old dm for a game I miss dearly.

Chulanowa: We haven't always seen eye to eye but we did have fun in the games we shared so there's that

Feycromancer: is this weird guy i know in real life. totally insane don't know why i even play with him. (jk) hes a great guy PFS (Pathfinder Society) certified and a good eye for balance.

Blinkin: Love playing with their chars always makes good detailed people which may or may not be due to the fact that Description is key for him moreso than a picture is. If he never put 50 places that he cant see Id never even known it.

Dynamod: havent played with yet but I have been eager to do so.

Autocad/Re Z L/Bibliophilia/Zaer Darkwail: Haven't had the pleasure of playing with any of them yet but from what Ive noticed they apply to a lot of games and have a good record of acceptance so that has to say something right?

Since everyone seems to be doing it, I'll ump off a bridge too. These are only my own thoughts and not the view of the management. ;)

Ghostwheel: I've played with him a few times and have never noticed a lack of reliable posting from him. We don't always see eye to eye, but he knows how to craft a character and knows the game.

eBadger: I don't really recall playing with him, but with my memory, that may or may not be true. I've heard a lot about him and seems to be consistent overall.

Chulanowa: I've oplayed with him and he knows the game. I don't think I've delved deeper than that but remember his characters as interesting people.

Blinkin: What can I say, this guy is a nut and sometimes difficult, but an amazing writer and is almost as reliable as the dawn, even if he can't see it. ;)

Autocad:
I've played under and with, but it's been a while. Always creative and I hear good things.

Zaer Darkwail: Makes crazy, power-hungry characters and has an unhealthy fasenation with summoning demons, but otherwise, a good, consistent and knowledgable player... yes, I'm teasing about the crazy... a little. ;)

I don't know anything about the others really.

Oh c'mon Blinkin, it was one game with red wizard character (what else expect from wizards which specialize to summoning?). Although I admit in that game I somehow snapped and that's not normal from me. As folks seem to doing this I go a round also (I am still working my char);

Ghostwheel: Regular applier like me and good player and reliable sorts.

eBadger: Name not familiar, so do not know him very well.

Chulanowa: Another regular applier, do not have any strong memories about him though (not bad, not good). I am sure I have been in same game but not that many.

Blinkin: Regular and reliable but also can hold brief arguments about rules/game with fellow players in OOC section (but not drama queen).

Autocad: A good roleplayer and regular applier as well. Reliability is on/off at times (at least in my game he disappeared without trace given nor PM given he has lost interest or such).

The rest; no idea about them.

Keleth
Bloodrager (Blood Conduit)

Description: Keleth is large, in fact large barely sums up this mountainous mass of muscle. There are half-giants that look eye to eye with him, and generally they flinch first because of the two he looks meaner. He is not pretty, his features are misshapen and look mottled. Hands tipped in claws that seem red and scaled, as if from long hours in the sun and baked on dirt, only begin the differences. His head grows hairless, more and more with each passing year, while the rest of his body struggles to shirk off any plumage or covering. In delightful company, he dresses in loose fitting robes of crimson, which seem to match him well and do not do nearly enough to disguise his size. When getting down to business, he wears boiled leather plates hardened into armor, dyed red as well, and wields nothing.

Personality: Some phrases which have been used to reference Keleth's personality follow: "He's big, he's mean, and he's not very bright,"  "I've never seen him take no for an answer; I've occasionally seen him not take yes for an answer either," and "He's like a vicious attack dog that only has two modes, attack and eat." None of these are particularly far off the mark, though he's not necessarily as stupid as everyone else seems to think him. Oh he's no genius, certainly, and he doesn't try to bandy about what little he does know as if it were somehow important. After all, the fox knows many things but the hedgehog knows one important thing. Or to use an analogy that might fit better, when all you have is a hammer everything starts looking like a nail. He is a hammer. If he can't cow it or make it get out of the way, he breaks it. He can talk, but talking doesn't get the job done most of the time. What gets the job done is putting boot/claw/fist/head to ass, and crushing any who oppose whatever it is you happen to want to get done at that point in time.

History: Keleth is the son of a prize-wife, or a battle-bride, any of a number of terms for a woman who was taken, and taken, following the siege of her town. His father was a marauder who subsequently died (in mysterious circumstances, not in battle), leaving Keleth and his mother alone to fend for themselves, which suited Keleth's mother just fine. She was a strong enough woman in her own right, having given birth to what was largely believed the most massive child ever. Occasional jokes were made as to whether she had bedded a Bulette. She simply smiled, and said that her man had certainly acted enough like one, which always gained a chuckle and appreciative nods. It was good to respect the dead, even if you didn't like them much in life.

Growing, Keleth had a sort of problem with authority. His mother would certainly try to beat some sense and learning into him, but to little avail it seems. He was an unruly child and remains an unruly adult. Adding to the strife of his childhood was the lack of a father figure or really anyone who could put him in line. By the time he was in his teens, most were fearful of his wrath more than they were of whatever he had already done. He stole something? Well at least he didn't burn the shop down. He burnt a shop down? Well at least he didn't murder the owner and his family. He murdered.... well, okay, he tended not to go that far, and in his defense the burning down of shops were VERY isolated incidents, and there were usually extenuating circumstances. Usually. Sometimes. Occasionally. Well what jail would you trust to hold him? The trouble with being an unruly youth that develops into an unruly adult is that you wear out your welcome pretty quick. Places decide that they don't want to have to rebuild, or hire clerics to heal, or any of the myriad of problems that a young man too large for the town he's in could cause. So he went to a larger city and tried his luck there, but there were actually people and facilities there to combat his rambunctious behavior! When a disagreement caused him to put a noble's head through a wall (a rather solid wall, in fact), they locked him up! Four years, they had him locked in stir, and this did miraculous things for his temper. It stoked the fires of his rage and anger. It gave him a reason to hate, a reason to destroy, a reason to... well who really needed a reason anyway?

Free and in his late twenties, Keleth is now an adventurer, a soldier of fortune, a mercenary for the highest bidder as long as they don't somehow piss him off in the process of bidding, as if he could be bought like some kind of farm animal. Mmmm.... farm animal. His venture to Heaven's Fall is almost as much for the chance to beat up very large animals and eat them as it is for the money. He heard there was interesting wildlife. The entire pitch to him went something like: Travel to exotic lands. Meet new and interesting creatures. And eat them. What more could you ask for than the chance to test your mettle against what the world has to offer, and to eat it? Dragon heritage rearing its ugly head, though he likely knows nothing of it himself yet, he has come to seek his hoard, to find rare and precious jewels, and perhaps also to start his brood. The world quakes and trembles when such ambitions come to rise. Who should be more afraid, the damsels or the dinosaurs?

Other players:
Zaer is a good poster, albeit sometimes there is a difficulty in translation.

eBadger has played that character and is familiar with it.

Autocad is simply mahvelous.

Chulanowa is aware of how to play, and posts with passion and intensity.

Blinkin posts. With regularity.

Ghostwheel is a good player and writes some evocative stuff.

To my knowledge I have not had the pleasure of playing with Oyabun, Feycro, Biblio, or Dyna. If I have and I forgot, I lament.

Zaer Darkwail

Name: Renud Bloodspear
Gender: Male
Race: Half-Orc
Alignment: Lawful neutral (mercenary attitude)
Class: Fighter (Two-Handed Archtype)
Traits: Eyes and Ears of the City, Bloody Minded, Brave
Flaws: Hedonistic
Ability spread: (Including half-orc stat buff to strength + lvl 4 stat increase to strength) Str (18), Dex (12), Con (14), Int (14), Wis (12), Cha (10)

Description:
appearance

Standing seven foot tall body wired with muscles and with hint of orc ancestry Renud Bloodspear gives a intimidating appearance to anyone even without saying anything. Just merely stare and growl is enough scare most people! However despite his brutish appearance he is quite smart and insightful and lover of finer things of life, including a good fight. He carries a magical spear and enchanted studded leather armor and he keeps his hair cut short and chin shaved.

Personality: Renud Bloodspear is simple man with simple pleasures, he likes to drink, fight and fuck. Give money top of that and all is good for him. However even if he works as mercenary he has principle to hold his contracts and promises even if someone would give him more gold. This much principle was taught by city guard and he dislikes breaking the law and causing trouble in city by doing crime (after all he has worked as city guard and he knows how shitty job it can be so he can sympathize with the guards). Overall he has not thought any big goals in his life, only focus on the moment than future. But if he scores big, well, he could retire, become noble, have harem of women in nice castle and eat good food and ale everyday. Sounds good to him.

Background: Renud was raised in city by half-orc parents, mother baker and father a blacksmith. He himself never fancied to work in forge all day but he did hit things hard with hammer, so he joined town militia and got training which was hammered solidly in. Using his natural strength and appearances made him ideal town guard to settle disputes either by physical might or angry stare alone.

However even if he had good thing going as city guard the city life was outright boring for him. Only few folks fought city guards and town was peaceful overall, so he quit his day job and instead picked life as caravan guard. Travel the world and face dangers of the road! There he felt excitement and joy! Albeit it struggled against his natural desires for comfort and pleasure but he have more than enough found pleasure on the road and because it's bit more rarity makes it that more fulfilling for his hedonistic nature.

Ogzi Thorn
Male Half-Orc Rogue 4, Barbarian 1
Neutral medium humanoid (Human, orc)
Init +8 (+10 in ruins); Senses Darkvision; Perception +8

Defense

AC 21, touch 15, flat-footed 17 (+4 dex, +4 armor, +1 shield, +1 NA, +1 deflect)
hp 42 (1d12+2, 4d8+8)
Fort +8, Ref +11, Will +5 (+1 saves vs. traps and natural hazards)
Defensive Abilities Sacred Tattoo, Evasion, Offensive Defense, Uncanny Dodge

Sacred Tattoo
Many half-orcs decorate themselves with tattoos, piercings, and ritual scarification, which they consider sacred markings. Half-orcs with this racial trait gain a +1 luck bonus on all saving throws. This racial trait replaces orc ferocity.
Evasion
At 2nd level and higher, a rogue can avoid even magical and unusual attacks with great agility. If she makes a successful Reflex saving throw against an attack that normally deals half damage on a successful save, she instead takes no damage. Evasion can be used only if the rogue is wearing light armor or no armor. A helpless rogue does not gain the benefit of evasion.
offensive Defense
When a rogue with this talent hits a creature with a melee attack that deals sneak attack damage, the rogue gains a +1 dodge bonus to AC for each sneak attack die rolled for one round.
Trap Sense +1
At 3rd level, a rogue gains an intuitive sense that alerts her to danger from traps, giving her a +1 bonus on Reflex saves made to avoid traps and a +1 dodge bonus to AC against attacks made by traps. These bonuses rise to +2 when the rogue reaches 6th level, to +3 when she reaches 9th level, to +4 when she reaches 12th level, to +5 at 15th, and to +6 at 18th level. Trap sense bonuses gained from multiple classes stack.
Uncanny Dodge
Starting at 4th level, a rogue can react to danger before her senses would normally allow her to do so. She cannot be caught flat-footed, nor does she lose her Dex bonus to AC if the attacker is invisible. She still loses her Dexterity bonus to AC if immobilized. A rogue with this ability can still lose her Dexterity bonus to AC if an opponent successfully uses the feint action (see Combat) against her.

If a rogue already has uncanny dodge from a different class, she automatically gains improved uncanny dodge (see below) instead.

Okie-dokey, going to call a hold on new characters now.  There's been a few new ones and that cool as well.  For those of you who haven't spent your gold, no worries; as long as the core of the character is there!  Man, I can tell this already going to be one hell of a job, but thanks to all for the recommendations both on forum and by PM, which should help (somewhat).  Anyway, I'll start working through it starting as of now.

Quote from: Dynamod on January 29, 2015, 02:36:07 PM
By the way Purp, when you're on, do you plan for this to get kinky at all down the line? Is that something in the pipes, up to the players, or not being considered at this moment?
Certainly if we go ahead with a full campaign, it'll feature (which is why I recommend human-ish type characters for it as I'm most familiar with that).  For the dungeon-trek, players can feel free to turn up the charm if they like, but let's keep the bump-and-grind for later.  ;D

Anyways, selection begins now.  Thank you all!

LSWSjr

Good luck everyone :D

Okay, the results are in.  Save to say, its been a stressful couple of hours pouring over the really cool characters concepts on offer and weighing them with the recommendations/insights I got from most of you.  After a bit of consideration, I selected four players under the sheer weight of recommendations heaped upon them, which left me with the conundrum of the fifth - two names stood out, as did their characters, and after a bit of agonising I still wasn't really able to favour one or the other - hence the final tally will be 6 players total.

I hate disappointing people, especially when they've put effort, but, alas, I have to pick a number that I can confidently say I can offer a game to - so if you didn't make the final choice, please forgive me! >.<

But as I said before, even if you didn't make the finally tally, if you're still interested in game just leave your interest note here and if anybody in the official group feels they have to leave for any reason, I'll get in contact with you to see if you're still interested in the position!

...AND NOW THE RESULTS

Bibliophilia with Tatia Berrioategortua
Blinkin with Annastasia Blaze
Chulanowa with Ogzi Thorn
Dynamod with Thwip Arkai
LSWSjr with Kassey LeHane
OyabunKyuubi with Aiko Konno

Again, apologies to those who I didn't include, as there really were some cool concepts I would have liked...  :-[

The OOC page shall be worked completed (about 1/2 done) and be up by Sunday or Monday and shortly thereafter, dungeon-stomping and treasure hunting shall begin!

Best to all of you!

Ghostwheel

Will leave my interest here in that case. PM me if things change.

Enjoy the game!

OyabunKobold

Woot for those of you that weren't accepted I will definitely have chances in the future to journey with you I'm sure!

Very exited to play in my first game pathfinder game! ^_^ getting all my thoughts and ideas together for how to roleplay this was quite a blur... it all went so fast. Looking forward to the upcoming adventures! (and some interpersonal conflict / bonding)

Zaer Darkwail

Congratulations to those who got accepted, have fun :). However if there are drop outs (which sadly usually happens in any forums), PM to me.

Im still interested, but I would like to get in with OyabunKyuubi if that would be alright in the hypothetical future.

Sorry. Got a sudden call that required new resume this week. 6 bucks more a hour plus ability to tell my OM to kiss it means I have to try.

You know gossip, it rarely seems to include anything good, even though it's usually good clean dirty entertainment. ;) I do seem to recall now, that we did both have a common interest in a game with a lot o set-up and no delivery.

Id be fine with that for others I'm able to go Aiko mode whenever kind of something you need when you are playing in 5 different games >.<
