Lets get our cut! Sons of Anarchy interest check

So I just finished season 3 of SoA and I'm thinking it would be a fun set-up for an RP, maybe focus it around a smallish charter, just got some prospects in.
Would people be interested? Game would need everything from the Charter's President & VP, Sergeant at Arms right down to prospects, not to mention female characters, from Old Ladies to Broads. Depending on interest we could split it up to rival groups, another Outlaw Biker Gang in the same area, rivals.

I'm thinking the group could get most of its money from Running Guns, same as Samcro, but perhaps something else for some flavour (ideas?)
Also looking for idea's on where people think might be a fun locale for the Charter (Atlanta? SanFran?)

Opinions? Ideas? Expressions of interest?

I'm something of an SOA fan myself, I've gotten through the first season and half of the second on Netflix.

What I would suggest is starting with something less elaborate.  Let's say you have a medium-sized suburb--you know, white picket fences and soccer moms...but also a seedy underbelly.  Two or three bikers come to the place, looking to set up their own chapter in this place that's ripe for the picking.  This would let people get in at the ground floor, so to speak.  SOA would be used as inspiration, but the storyline here would not necessarily follow canon.  Some adventures might include:

1) Picking up (or forcing) some of the local women (i.e., MILFs and college girls and high school seniors) to both please the bikers and serve as hookers.
2) Running drugs
3) Butting up against a local gang, battling for turf
4) Pulling off heists
5) Building up the new chapter's power base.

Some possible twists:

The bikers are Mayans!  Might be fun to play this from the perspective of the SOA antagonists...
The bikers are white supremacists (see above).  For added fun, the suburb they're moving into is mostly black.
We open up a second thread for a competing biker gang.
We really go off-script and introduce some larger event as a backdrop after the storyline develops (anything from a zombie outbreak to alien invasion).

I noticed this thread the other day, and messaged Primarch the other day about it, and he suggested I pop in here as well! So hi! :)

This idea quite intrigued me, so I'd love to see it get off the ground. Confession time, I haven't seen the show. But I am aware of the basic premise of it, and since it sounds like this is going to be an original universe, so to speak, that I hope that wouldn't be too big of an issue.

I have to agree with Primarch too, about OSG's ideas! They all sound quite interesting and realistic. Well, maybe not the zombie outbreak/alien invasion

I just starting watching the show today after I saw this thread, so thank you! I love it so far. Anyway I am up for starting off a charter the ideas that OSG has given sound interesting to me.

I am like the idea of a nice neighborhood and having the bikers start taking over it. I am thinking that at least one of the bikers could have a kid  or kids in highschool. It would open up a nice source for prospects.

So ya if this gets off the ground which I hope it does count me in.

Sons is one of the best programmes to come out of the states in a long time, where I am they have just started repeating season one on TV so I have a weekly fix while the powers that be decide when to show season4

We should probably decide what the source of income is for the gang, if we're starting off with a small gang we probably shouldn't have their fingers in too many pies. OSG's post gives a few possibilities.

Hookers, drugs, gun running.

Perhaps due to watching the show so much recently I rather like gun running.

We could go all Saint's Row on this, but that would really change the tone of the game, so it would need to be thought out properly.

I like the idea of it being a small upstart chapter. Perhaps they've just moved into the area or something.

If this helps decide, I was considering making my character (a female) a stripper. I had a couple of other ideas for her, but I don't mind narrowing it down to stripper if it helps, lol. My other ideas could also work with whatever we decide, and I'm totally flexible.

And I realize that I might not have worded my statement well...I didnt mean to imply that just because I was thinking of making a stripper that we would have to go the route of hookers and what not. Just that Im willing to go there.

My ideas for her are pretty basic at this point. I figured if I didnt make her a stripper, I might make her a bartender or maybe even a sort of low level drug dealer. Just trying to think of things that would put her in their orbit, ya know?

Well a Stripper or bartender could work very well. You could also take the hooker route. If you want the character to be an "Old Lady" that is, a Biker's girlfriend, a hooker or bartender might be better, of course if a Biker wants to date a girl who's sleeping with other men for a career its up to him. One of the characters in the show dates a Pornstar!

Which by the way folks, another possible nod from the show, getting money from a porn studio. :P

I'd definitely be down for having her be an Old Lady of one of the fellas. In fact I was going to offer if someone wanted to have a connection to her that I'd be happy to do that. She could be the girlfriend/sister/daughter of one of the guys. She doesnt have to be of course just a thought/offer.

The characters I'd be thinking of playing would be one of the bikers, probably an enforcer.  Another character concept is a white-bread, blonde-haired honor student who is brought rather forcefully into the bikers' milieu.  After the initial encounter (probably a rape), she has to juggle her involvement with the bikers with her (very different) life as an intelligent, outgoing high school senior with a 3.7 GPA.  Of course, the bikers will demand more and more from her, making it increasingly difficult for her to reconcile the two halves of her double life.  Assuming the storyline and cast grow, her family could end up involved too (perhaps a mother, aunt and sister?).

So what type of bikers are we looking at here (Mayans, skinheads...)?

I'd be just as happy to keep that a bit loose until characters are created or leave race stuff up to the players.

I like your concept there OSG! She would certainly be an interesting character that could have an interesting ongoing SL. You should do that one for sure.

I was leaning toward Mayans myself, but could certainly be persuaded to go skinhead instead.  If the latter, my female character would probably be black, but with the same overall personality type and background.

We could go a few different ways. Could stick with California, or theres always places like Las Vegas, New Orleans, Miami. Could do Texas as well. Or something else entirely. Detroit, Boston, Philadelphia. Depending on the setting we pick it can add different factors. Miami for example is coastal, has a large port, a large immigrant population.

Florida could be entertaining or somewhere else that has swamps since we could use them to move product just like using a port. I have no real idea since I am up in Canada so if I make a mistake about a state or something forgive me lol.

I could certainly play the boyfriend, if someone else is interested in playing the father or even an older brother.

Regardless, if we take example roles from the series which I believe are somewhat taken from actual Biker Gang structure we need/can fill up

President
VP
Sergeant at Arms
Secretary

Then its regular members and prospects. If the gang is new and small then it might only be those roles perhaps not even if the group isn't large enough to require a structure. Depends on interest.
