Dragon Age: Conflict

Starting Location and Event: The Grand Tourney hosted by Starkhaven in the Free Marches

Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide

The Free Marches are not a kingdom, nor even a nation in the most basic sense. People from that region dislike even being lumped together as "Marchers." Rather, they are a collection of independent city-states united only when it suits them; in this respect, they resemble the Bannorn before the arrival of King Calenhad. Because of this, the Free Marches have no capital, and what passes for a central government exists only sporadically, a sort of Landsmeet that convenes only during times of crisis.

The Free Marches is a collective name given to the group of city-states situated in eastern Thedas, south of Antiva and the Tevinter Imperium, east of Nevarra, and north of Ferelden. The three real cities with any semblance of power in the Free Marches are Kirkwall, Starkhaven and Tantervale, each having a leader with a title and having the special right to name a Champion of the city.

The "Marchers" are independent descendants from tough barbarians, their cities standing in a loose confederation that rarely unites on any matter unless one of their larger neighbors becomes aggressive. In this event, the Marchers can assemble a united military front that even the greatest powers cannot ignore.

The Free Marches is best known as the breadbasket of Thedas. Its farms along the banks of the Minanter River are the source of much of the continent's food. Starkhaven, the largest of the cities in the Free Marches, is situated on this waterway. During the Fifth Blight, many refugees from Ferelden fled to the Free Marches.

The Grand Tourney

One of the Free Marches' most celebrated events is the Grand Tourney. Participants from all over Thedas converge on this festival of martial skill and valor in a competition to a crown a champion of the games. The victor is awarded a coronet of sage leaves and a trophy blade known as the Celebrant, which is inscribed with the names of every champion since the first Tourney. In one letter by a Free Marcher, he explains, "The most important thing to know about the Free Marches is that we're free. We determine our own destiny, and that pleases us. Beyond that, the only other time we coalesce is when Grand Tourney comes to town. Then we boldly express our pride to any foreigner who'll listen. We'll kiss freedom on the lips and even lock arms with a proud Starkhavener! Alas, it lasts only a day, but there's no harm in that, right?" It is considered one of the only binding aspect of the Free Marches that every Marcher shares in happily, and is a notoriously jubilant phenomenon despite its brevity.

Timeline

The timeline is set after the story of Dragon Age 2 has finished. Hawke is the Champion of Kirkwall, but disappeared after the battle between the Templar's and the Circle of Magi. The Hero of Ferelden has also disappeared. However despite the simmering tension across Thedas between the Circle and the chantry, the Free Marches will still hold their Grand Tourney. Starkhaven sees a mass of people come to either participate or watch the tourney. This is where our characters will all come too, some to compete and some too watch. However the Tourney doesn't finish for whatever reason, and an adventure begins.

Other Information (OOC)

I am looking for between six to eight people for this, with the sexes balanced 3 and 3 or 4 and 4. I hope to also have a cross reference of character types from Mages to Rogues to Warriors. Of course there will be more of each type than just one. But if there is already a specific rogue, please try to vary you're rogue to be something different from the other. so if there's a dual wielding stealth type rogue, then perhaps pick an archer who uses poisons. I will be a Force Mage, a bit like an Arcane Warrior, but not actually an Arcane Warrior as only the Hero Of Ferelden had the opportunity to learn that skill.

As this is based in Dragon Age, some knowledge of the game and world would be good. I don't know everything myself but I do love the game. If you wish to play an actual character that exists in the game, that's cool or you can create someone. And Dragon Age like a lot of Bioware games doesn't shy away from sex and relationships, so I'm sure there will be opportunities for relationships and sexual scenes.

Also when creating characters, don't give them too many talents from the talent trees. I'm going to give a limit of 18 talents, so we'll all be level eight with two specializations.

Jalen Rivers Intro

The City of Starkhaven was buzzing with activity, as crowds upon crowds of people were being herded into the makeshift stadium for the Grand Tourney. Starkhaven had always been a very busy city with some of the proudest of those who lived in the Free Marches calling it home. But in the weeks building up until this Grand Tourney, it had just got busier and busier. People from all over Thedas had come. From the Rich wanting to see a good show, to mercenaries and soldiers wanting fame and fortune. Brothels had sprung up in buildings all over town and fights were becoming more and more common in the pubs. But there was a general excitement and merchants, landlords and other rich people, were getting extremely richer.

And some would say something like this was needed. After the events at Kirkwall, the tension between the Templars/Chantry and the Circle of Magi was ever growing, and that seemed to filter down into how the Templars treated the normal folk, and more and more people were being accused of being apostate. Add to that the fact that some of the Quanari had fled from Kirkwall and set a camp outside Starkhaven had made everyone in Starkhaven a bit wary. And the Prince of Starkhaven had been building an army to go to Kirkwall and bring a magician named Anders to justice for his actions in Kirkwall that saw the Chantry attacked by some sort of magic. The Quanari mistook this army as a threat to them, which is why that Army had not left Starkhaven yet. And everything had been put on hold for the Grand Tourney. That was a Free Marches tradition that even the Prince of Starkhaven wouldn't break.

And it was the Grand Tourney that was responsible for Jalen Rivers current employement. With the Prince of Starkhaven having started recruiting for the army, the City Guard was short on numbers, and had hired mercenaries for the event. The success of these hirings varied drastically, some mercenaries being sentenced to death for some of the things they did as "City Guards". But Starkhaven were paying Jalen, and his orders were to keep the peace and that's what he had been doing. So much so that he had risen enough to be considered one of the most reliable mercenaries and had been stationed inside the stadium to keep the peace during the Grand Tourney.

He would have loved to have competed in the Tourney, but Jalen knew that without his magic, he was no match for some of the people he would have to duel. He was a great warrior, he didn't doubt that. But what turned his good skills with a blade into being a great warrior was the magic inside of him. He could enchant his weapon, surrounded himself with a protective shield and Rock Armor, heal himself and throw people around with his Force Magic. Without that, he would be good enough to beat a few people, but he wouldn't be a contender. And it wasn't a good time to be a Mage. Even if you were in the Circle of Magic, the Templars were reportedly getting crueller and crueller. And their pursuit of Apostates had grown in fevre. So to come to the Grand Tourney and start flaunting magic would be a stupid idea.

Instead he was to stand on the sidelines and watch the competition. He couldn't complain, because he would have the best seat in the house. Some even said the Hero of Ferelden or Hawke may show up to the Tourney, but neither seemed like the type that needed to boost their reputation. A loud gong interupted his thoughts as the Master of Ceremonies started to introduce the Grand Tourney.

The Show was about to begin!

Character Name: Kashund of the Meladari
Nationality: Qunari
Race: Qunari
Class: Warrior
Specialization: Champion and Berserker
Talents from Talent Tree: Powerful, Threaten, Bravery, Death Blow, War cry, Rally, Motivate, Superiority, Mighty Blow, Powerful Swings, Two-handed Strenght, Two-handed Sweep, Berserk, Resilience, Constraint, Final Blow, Sunder Arms, Shattering Blows
Background: Kashund of the Meladari is from beyond the ocean from nations ruled by Qunari, he was born to a mother who was renown smith. Unusual she had been given expection to ruling for women to be involved with warfare as she crafted swords and armor! She proved her skills by crafting a blade which had surpassed all siblings blades in all tests and even resisted from breaking from all siblings blades which repeatedly struck on her crafted blade and only ended up broken while her blade persisted.

His father was a much humbler origin; a simple legionnaire who had risen to second in command in one border outpost until Kashund came to age to pick his life as a warrior. He had a sister; Kulia, who studied to become a weaver. Altough it seems her path promised only failures in that field despite it was her designed role in life. She was lousy cook and a hunter as well. Making her shameful spot in family but still cared for and hoping she gets a husband who forgives her flaws and picks her because she is at least pretty. Kashund became renown skilled warrior and a commander of raiding squads which spread terror. However he did not receive much public praise nor recognition besides his expectational understanding of the Qun, code of honor of the qunari.

Then life changed dramatically when his sister suddenly manifested sorcery to slay a rampaging wild beast which was about charge on qunari children! As qunari law the law against mages is ruthless, however she managed escape before squad found her and she showed surprising adabillity and quick learning how to weave spells! Many suspecting she had practiced in secret for years! Kashund's family was ashamed and to restore the family honor he took the blame from sister's crime upon himself and declared; "I shall be Tal-Vashoth until I bring my sister's head!" With those words he sealed his fate to fate of his sister and top of that all soldiers are given execution order if he ever returns to his homeland without his sister's head as proof he had done duty to his people to punish his own sister who is now mage and had fled from qunari law. So he has travelled ever since in the world, looking for his sister best as he can.
Gear: Shush'drame (looks like Blade of Mercy but is made from silverite but has red steel on edges to create image of burning flames), His massive armor looks like Regalia of Weisshaupt but it's made from red steel and the kilt is black/red in color and has no helm.
Personality: Dutiful, determined and also blood thirsty for battle but he keeps his hunger cold which slowly heats up in battle to frightening savagery. Despite blood thirst he is very intelligent and tactical warrior which hardly surrenders to his whims and desires. But he knows to turn off his cold mode in combat and take in delight for 'fullfilling his purpose' as he calls it. Also his shame is sore spot in himself so he does not tell very easily why he is traveling besides that he is tal-vashoth, even to other qundari.
Sexual Orientation: Straight, have not yet married but have mated before.

Are we limited to what a character could use at level 8 or just picking 8 levels worth of talents? And can we choose which talent tree we pick (origins version or DA2 version) or are we using one?

TreyWalker

Your character is level 18 so your can pick 18 talents and two specialisations. You can pick from DA:O or DA2 talent trees. If you want to be an arcane warrior it would have to be a good story to explain it though.

TreyWalker

Zaer Darkwail, you're character has been accepted. Thanks for joining, and we'll start when we get a few more people, but if you want to post you're intro in here just to encourage a few people to join, feel free too.

Well, good to hear you can tolerate my writing for now in this story at least :). Also more often than not feel downed when I see a good game idea but you have already expressed interest on it and I do not want butt in knowing you do not like to be same games with me because just how I write (and so create the drama between choosing me and you).

TheSilkenVoice

I am definitely interested...I've had a dragon age character sitting on the back-burner for ages...Saving this spot for her...Soon as I can I will post up her details.

((If I knew a way to show off my Hawke, I'd do it lol.))

Picture:
Character Name:  Giselle Hawke
Nationality:  Formerly of Feraldan, from the town of Lothering
Race:  Human
Class:  Mage
Specialization:  Arcane Warrior/Blood Mage
Talents from Talent Tree:  Fireball, Winter's Grasp, Cone of Cold, Firestorm, Pyromancer, Elemental Mastery, Combat Magic, Aura of Might, Mind Blast, Crushing Prison, Arcane Shield, Spirit Bolt, Walking Bomb, Dispel Magic, Blood Magic, Hemorrhage, Stone Fist, and Chain Lightning
Background:  She has destroyed dragons in the Bone Pit, slain demons both in and out of the Fade, stopped a war between the Qunari and Kirkwall before it could truly begin although not without its losses to the city, has explored the Deep Roads although it cost her her brother's freedom, having to become a Grey Warden to survive the taint, has lost friends and family alike, and has stopped a mad Templar Knight Commander, siding with the mages in the final battle for the city since she herself is a mage of no small power.  She is Giselle Hawke, Champion of Kirkwall, friend and ally to those that would seek her aid, and this tourney is no different, hoping to see Sebastian once more to stop him from making another grave mistake, the first being trying to rouse an army against Kirkwall, but more specifically Anders.  Despite all that had happened and because of what they did, she still sees the man as a friend that she'd hate to have to strike down.  Even so, Giselle shan't back down from what she knows to be right, using every trick she has up her considerable sleeve to win this tournament if it means stopping another war before it can begin.

She didn't disappear, but rather after everything that had happened in Kirkwall, Giselle had decided to take a much needed break from everything up in Antiva, where no one knew her save for perhaps Zevran who she ran into by chance alone.  They traveled together for a time, finding an ancient elven ruin that held the means to become an Arcane Warrior.  It wasn't without its trials, finding tons of demons and monsters inhabiting the place, but the rewards were well worth the trials they had faced together before going their separate ways again.  Now in Starkhaven under a false name to hide her identity until the right moment, (or until she is revealed for who she truly is,) Giselle hopes to avoid further blood shed if Kirkwall and Starkhaven were to go to war, hence her reason for joining the tournament at all.
Gear:  Mantle of the Champion.

Staff weapon is The Final Thought

Personality:  Despite Ander's betrayal and his demolishing the Kirkwall Chantry, Giselle Hawke had tried to attain peace between all the opposing forces that had inhabited the city.  She has a sense of humor, a compassionate and caring nature, but earn her anger and be prepared to be completely destroyed by her skill in arms and spells.  Despite losses along the way and betrayals from former friends, Giselle still presses on, hoping to attain peace before more lives are needlessly lost.
Sexual Orientation:  Bi

Vergil, I went back and forth whether to accept as you're character is the main character in DA:2 and as she's an arcane warrior but I've decided to accept. As long as we go on the premise that Zevran was with the Warden when he discovered how to be an Arcane Warrior, and he was determined to find more elven secrets because of how great that one was.

Vergil1989

I can go with that aye.  I normally took him with me during that part of the game anyway lol.  Still, thanks for the all clear and I hope it works out for this game as well as I hope it will.

Carlissa

Oh, I'm interested in this!

Is it okay for me to join even though I didn't play DA 2 (and I read the first paragraph either so it wouldn't spoil the ending for me :P)? I played DAO and all of its expantion packs though.

I'm thinking of an elf mage, shapeshifter/healer maybe. Or is shapeshifter off limits because Morrigan taught it to the Warden?
"Damn kids doing work. Back in my day we worked 18 hours a day and still had time for 12 hours of fun before a solid 8 hours of sleep in 24 hours".

TreyWalker

Your welcome to play carlissa but we have two mages. If you really want to play though I can change to a rogue.

TreyWalker

Also, a quick thing for all you guys that are accepted or planning to play, I have a general storyline arc that I'm planning to follow. But like the Dragon Age games, it would be great if you guys had some sort of individual storylines to pursue as well. So if you think of anything, keep it in mind. Or feel free to PM it to me.

Carlissa

Oh, that's fine. I have a idea for a rouge character anyway. A Ranger, although I can't decide whether she'll be elf or human... Is it okay if she had a Mabari companion as well? I love the Mabaris...

An indivisual storyline? Oh, I have something in mind alright... Mwahaha...

I think I can think of something as well, as soon as I am able to calm down from my little brother's perpetual mouth and his disrespectful attitude that's pretty much 24/7 when he's mad about something.

Well, my char has his own storyline already.

Katra Alexion

I would be very interested in this game. Being a fan of the series I have both games and all dlc to current. What is current;y available?

TreyWalker

Two mages are taken. If enough people want to play, I may take on one more mage. Trying to have the same amount of each type. There is only one warrior officially accepted as well.

Some people have posted their interest but not put up stats so if you want to make sure you get a warrior or rogue, post quickly.

So feel free to post your stats up when you can.

Are Grey Warden playable characters in this RP?

TreyWalker
