Looking at the lot of you motivated me to start recruiting for another game.. <_<

Highly considering it taking place within the same continuity as this one's. :P

Hexed

@Keelan Huh?  I thought I did. And on checking it's showing the skills grouped by your latest post. Granted I haven't stripped out the non-used skills that weren't changed yet so maybe that's what is causing the problem.

And the update to 10 jutsu at level 1 and each level gets an amount of jutsu's equal to the character level, plus extra for things such as x Adept feats.

Myself I work at the character's mechanics and let each decision build the fluff. Why this was taken/done instead of that and other things.

Zaer Darkwail

Well, neither the above chars I made are taijutsu users so it reflects on them quite well :P. But our ice dragon sage can dish 15d6 dmg (from three different elements top of that) in large area effect and can turn to misty form and whisper people and can do INSANE jumps (+40 jump checks and no height limit how far she goes.....good I gave her jutsu which makes her fall only 10'ft despite height she falls from or rather falls 10'ft per round only; effectively allowing her 'jump and glide' long distances).

Anycase reason I gave Wolfy's char trueblood was that I doubt regular human would have natural genius ninja and also ice element stuff in first level (plus she needed bonus to Con and Charisma badly for her build). Plus the vision is nice plus. I am aware she could get more techniques, ranks and bonus feat as regular human (I build mine char as regular human because of this), but I think she is fine as trueblood :P. She just needs take consideration that she is from several generations of shinobi family and as genius ninja she was genin when she hit on age of 7 (as mentored by ice dragons no less). So even if she is 18 she is considered genius (and for reason; she has far above her chuunin rank techniques who should send even jounin scared of her when it comes to ninjutsu duels as she knows one extra element beyond most jounin).

Flip side because of feat she cannot never learn further element profiencies unless she takes feat which demands her to be genius ninja (and could take it in 9th level or 11th, ligthning would be very useful as many water techniques have useful combos with ligthning). Another flip side is that to make use of her ice jutsu or water jutsu she must have lots bodies of water near by (or snow), but I gave her one wind attack jutsu (sort of tornado attack) which she can use and empower to blast foes.

Wolfy; Cute pic, just need photoshop to have paler/icier hair and paler skin and would be exact same as the pic I posted :). At 2th level when you go 'sage mode' you gain +1 natural armor as sage (sort of buff based on sage pact you got). Also summoning ice dragons is good as their physically very durable (high AC).

And I need work Tashi's updates also which I haven't done yet.....sorry :P. But as Keelan says; years being GM and player plus unlimited net access in weekend combined allows me spend rapidly 2-3 hours make char (my first draw took 5 hours until I developed method quickly check techniques and find quick way find modern feats in the list; those two take longest times really in naruto d20 char gen besides double checking for facts of the PrC's and wealth stuff). Both above chars miss gear and haven't done Wolfy's wealth rolls.

Hexed: Simplest math is 45 + 8 per adept feat (spend for said field) and additional +8 if got genius ninja for said field. But do take E, D techniques first (easy check reference in clicking directly to bloodlines at PDF file and then scroll up until you get to actual technique/jutsu list and scroll way up to E and D techniques; the short english descriptions should give idea and with search engine I provide should give you info quicker than just scroll through PDF file the technique list which is hurdle to go through) and then do B and A techniques then in.

Keelan

Oh derp, you're right; I didn't look into detail, saw a few that weren't supposed to be there, made an ass of me (but not u :3)

And that makes sense, it's about how I generate characters.  I typically get a concept, then work with mechanics until that concept is likely destroyed, then build character around mechanics to explain who what when where how and why...

Wolfy/Zaer need items, otherwise it's golden it seems for 3 chars, right?

Zaer Darkwail

Yeah and Wolfy needs name which village he is from if any; or was his char adopted into village or overall background story (my char is not from any village but he can be hired to joint part of any squad for long term even; his background wise he is wandering shinobi who has opened clincis, taught medicine craft or even medicine jutsu for regular people in said clinics across in poorer countries and such).

Keelan

oh right, haven't looked at the actual background yet... was imagining that one way or another they were part of Konoha now, just became Chuunin.  Also had planned them all to be 18, but I remember seeing you were 20 and so was Ice-girl, and I can probably work with that too.  Can't be too old at level 6 though in the narutoverse ^_^

Zaer Darkwail

Well, I can make 18 the ice girl, but my char is 20 because he was not raised in shinobi village and overall he has been unassociated ninja working and doing good doctor deeds in countries who lack proper hospitals or cannot afford ninja from one five great villages to solve problems (which do not involve killing mind you). But he may have been recruited to Konoha (so that part background him refusing join any villages need taken out; he had not offered position in village before and even still not much trusted because his shinobi skills origins are vague/mystery). I can PM you full details of his background and explain how he got trained as shinobi. Most his present techniques are self-taught or self-discoveries.

Keelan

Hm, not as concerned about 'how' the training went and more about the village associations, which from what you've explained thus far sounds pretty okay ^_^

Ok, so background wise he was recruited to Konoha somepoint and I let you decide how/where it happened (as I think you form team around with present applicants so present Kage must had decided add my char into team than assign to Konohan hospital).

Wolfy

I'm going to say that my character is part of Konoha, having been raised and mentored by Ice Dragons until she was allowed to go to the village and train as a ninja. She would have had her own home, and learned slowly how to cook her own meals, being a Genius at Ninjutsu but failing at other every day things like cooking. ;3

Also, she hates frozen meals...oddly enough, considering her 'parents'. xD

And I'm fine with her being 18.

She just needs a name, though...

Aoi Sanseki.

Blue Diamond.

^0^

Edit:

Yuki Aoi Sanseki

Snowy Blue Diamond

With Yuki being her Clan name....though perhaps one she's unaware of.

Zaer Darkwail

Well, Artisan covers cooking skills also and she's not that bad (but it may be that in past she was :P).

ShadowFox89

And if anyone's interested, I'm planning a dragonball game using the system, taking you from the power level of Dragon Ball to the end of Z :P

Vex

Nice job, Zaer! You're pretty quick with those! And it checks out, for the most part. The only thing I caught off about the sheet is that you have Iryou Ninjutsu techniques under Chakra Control rather than Ninjutsu. Medical techniques do have the additional requirement of having a very high Chakra Control skill to use, but they're still Ninjutsu techniques, essentially requiring a Medical-Nin to max both. All and all, it's still pretty great that you're able to nail all that down so swiftly!

I'm barely starting on my character's sheet, but I have a good idea of where I wanna take it. Basically, I'm going a standard Hyuuga Dedicated Hero/White-Knight/Taijutsu Master route, but I'm going to throw in the Pressure Point techniques from Way of the Master, which I think meshes incredibly well with the Gentle Fist style. She'll constantly be debuffing opponents while she's striking them. It's almost a shame I can't really have her utilize the Sacred Fist style along side the Juukan style, as the two work so well together (although, she theoretically could in Epic levels if she goes Epic Taijutsu Master, but I'm not gonna assume we're going to go that high ::) ). It also allows her to use her abilities to serve as a limited back-up natural healer when necessary, albeit one who's not nearly as capable as Zaraki, mostly just for out of combat, non-emergency uses.

Playing off the angle, I'm probably going to have her embrace Hyuga traditions in a rather spiritual sense, in a way the Hyuga characters in the series really didn't (Neji and Hinata always seemed rather reluctant to embrace their respective duties, and if anything seemed to be fighting against them). I expect her to be a bit of a traditional and conservative sort, wise, insightful, but rather judgmental and somewhat strict in her philosophy. Definitely the "Lady of War", although it could be fun to throw in a few matters she's a bit hot-boiled over. I could also have some fun with the often implied fact that the Byakugan can see through clothes and armor (which is no doubt true, just not much explored).

I'm just not sure whether to fit her into the Main House or the Branch House. Mechanically, it doesn't make a difference, but story-wise, it's pretty important. I suppose being a Main House member would give her more readily explained access to their more powerful techniques. But, I think having her as a member of the Branch House has a lot of potential RP complications to it that might be fun to play out. I know that Hinata's personal maid was a Hyuga ninja, and I thought the aspect of the "taijutsu powerhouse maid" would be pretty amusing, although I'm not sure how that would play out practically.

Although, it seems there's a bit of despite over whether female Hyuga members are even branded in the same way that male Branch members are. Hinabi, Hinata's sister, was never branded, after all. She might had been the heir's sister, but that being the sibling of the heir didn't seem to matter in Hiashi/Hizashi's case. Maybe things changed after that incident, but the Hyuga clan comes off as more traditionally minded than most, and traditionally in Japan, women can't branch off with their families. They only become heads via inheritance, and even then, often when there's no obvious male heir. So, maybe that's the reason? Still wouldn't address the practical element of protecting the bloodline from those who would want to steal it's secrets, though, and as oppressive as the seal is, required obedience and destruction their genetic inheritance from their bodies is a damn good way to make sure it never falls into enemy hands.

Any thoughts on this, Keelan? Or do you not have any opinion about these?

Quote from: Zaer Darkwail on August 13, 2015, 08:10:22 PM
Indeed in fuinjutsu there is variety. Although did not spot many medical ones (just one which prevented someone doing suicide with some couple jutsus). But I redo bit my fuinjutsu picks as I get advanced seals feat and so can get more better fuinjutsu to use (one more obscure one is increase objects weight by a lot).

Then you'll be pleasantly surprised with Tobikiri Saisei no Jutsu, and Souzou Saisei, arguably the high-level Medical-nin's last defense and what basically makes them damn near immortal. Granted, the latter technically doesn't require one to be a Medical Specialist, but seeing as it's basically just an epic version of the former, I always saw that as an oversight on the author's part. Shiketsu no In comes off as thematically appropriate as well. I could see Keiyaku Houjin being extremely useful as well, if one also has Retrieval Expert. Gets your allies out of emergency situations in a hurry, and into relative safety so you can heal them, or brings a tougher ally in to help you out, seeing as combat isn't so much a Medical-nin's forte.

Ah, then I swap then some techniques to make room for the Iryou Ninjutsu for ninjutsu side....and likely need pick some new chakra control jutsus and those jutsus you suggested :). Anycase your concept sounds interesting; always big question go for main or branch family albeit for women it seems not matter much it seems. Although if your 'kick ass maid' then you would need assigned under someone's control in the party (or rather protect them).

Well, some of those jutsu I mentioned might still be a bit high level for you. I was just stating some potential examples of Fuinjutsu that a Medical-nin could use. Still, I hope you found it useful for future planning, at least. ;D

And I'm not sure whether or not the Main or Branch family decision wouldn't matter just as much for women. I was merely speculating on the curious matter of Hinabi. Granted, she's the likely heir at the end of the series, after Hinata married out of the clan, but that still doesn't explain why she wasn't branded as a young child, as Neji had (and presumably Hizashi before him). I just wondered if it might had been because of traditional gender roles. I honestly don't know. That's why I was bringing it up, to see if Keelan might had had a take for their game. Of course, I don't really mind making it up, if they're not interested.

But yeah, the "kick ass maid" did sound fun in concept, but it would likely need a rather specific kind of person in the party, and I don't think any concepts quite fit the bill. Still, I kinda see her as more of a servant than a leader, at least at this stage, so I'm somewhat inclined to stick her in the Branch family. Although, I imagine she could always "marry up", in the end, assuming the Main House finds it a suitable arrangement.

Anyway, I have a rough draft of a character sheet sorta finished. I still need to do the Equipment and Technique sections, and I'll of course do a write up for background and personality afterwards, maybe do a few more tweaks along the way. Still quite a ways from finished. But, for now, this is where I'm at. Feel free to have a look, if you wan an eyeful of stats.  ;)

In doing so, a couple of questions popped up. How are we determining HP? Are we rolling? Taking the average? Or maxing it out each level?

Similar question with Wealth. I understand how to do it, theoretically. But normally, while one is playing, it's quite normal to end up buying things early on that would exceed one's Wealth, thus lowering it. If we're just doing a straight up Wealth check for each level, without any purchases in-between, then it's bound to be higher than just about any natural Wealth bonus would be at this level. Are we okay with that? Or should we modify it somehow?

Also, a minor note, but I really think Ride and Handle Animal should be grouped together. They're pretty niche skills that fit a similar category, and considering how many skills have been consolidated thusfar, I'd think this one would be appropriate as well. But, it's no big deal to me if it isn't. I doubt Masumi would invest in it either way.  :P

I'm done! Yippee!

Here's Ranko Kita, wire fighter and merchants daughter. (Her parents are so sad at her lack of merchant like skills.) Also, to save space in the technique list I put the techniques with various ranks in the same space. So rank 1/2/3/4 speed for instance.

http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheet.html#id=311758

Well. Mostly at least. Can't decide which of these two pictures I want to use for her.
Option 1
http://gelbooru.com//images/58/a1/58a1e979a63678acb58d1336119afc5d.jpeg?2754442

Her background's kind of... bland right now. But that's so it can be fleshed out as we see how the game goes. Such as exactly how far past the fourth war it is and such.
Background
Born in konoha to the Kita merchant family, sellers of fine household goods. Energetic and curious it wasn't long before young Ranko met Konoha's beasts and was enthralled by their tales of Youth and Martial Arts. To the beast's dismay, and her parents delight she turned down their offer of a training suit. Her almost instantly asking for one in a darker color brought great dismay to her parents.  It took her a fair bit of whining and asking to get her parents to allow her to attend the academy.
Her academy years taught her that while she'd probably never match the beasts in strength her very flexible build had its own advantages, especially when combined with the battle wire that one of the history teachers showed off.
Despite her talent in the combat arts she graduated in the middle of her class due to her complete lack of skill in genjutsu and her low skill in Chakra Control.
One of the biggest blows to her cheerful nature was her first kill as her fighting style does not leave nice corpses, what with her normal attack method literally flaying her opponents alive. It took her months to overcome the mess of her first kill enough that she could bring herself to fight all out again.

Keelan

@Hexed: I do like 2 better as well ^_^

@Vex: sorry on slow response was one for about 24hrs!  Regarding 'main' and 'branch' families; the practice of branding I'd say probably went out of practice by this point, especially since the head of the Hyuuga is now an Uzumaki and the whole 'branding and stigmatizing' thing would be something the Seventh would really, uh, have issues with.  Also Hinata I imagine isn't very fond of it after Neji's pain and heroic actions.

Also, HP is 1/2HD with full at first (that's 1/2 full, not average or 1/2+1, so a d6 is 3, d8 is 4, etc).  Wealth is rolled, roll on here and either link or send to me.  Though honestly I know what they're supposed to look like for level so I'm not too much of a stickler, and you are limited to Restricted as the highest 'rarity' you can buy.

And yeah, I originally had Ride/Handle Animal as one skill, but I wanted to have 20 skills, and as it stands if you put anything into INT at all you can do some disgustingly skilled builds from my tests.  That and they are sufficiently distinct in my opinion, and CHA has so few skills now as is so... yeah...

If it really messes things up, I may reconsider, but for the moment let's keep as-is

I think she looks fine! There's plenty of time to refine it, as you said.

I like both images, so I'd say it depends on the tone you're trying to set for her. Which one do you think reflects her personality more? If she's modest and delicate, I'd go more for the first image. She comes off more as firm, but quietly so, maybe even a little shy, although maybe she wouldn't admit it. If you think her more of a passionate and energetic type (and maybe a tad on the sensual side), the latter fits that profile more. I think this fits her description better, personally. From how you seemed to describe her in her background, at least.

No worries! I mean, it's not like we're in a rush yet, are we? If not, then a day or two is just fine by me for a response. That's fairly reasonable, I think. So, thanks for getting back to me! ;D

You're right that Naruto did want to change how the Hyuuga ran themselves. I could see him wanting to change things. But, I could also see some resistance from the elder Hyuuga lords, especially those from the Main house. It's a potentially cruel practice, no doubt, but it's also a very effective one. The Byakugan bloodline is one of the strongest and most pure of all kekkei genkai, with the strongest ties to the origin of virtually all Doujutsu lines (the Ōtsutsuki Clan). I could very well see them arguing that the practice, of obedience to the line and destruction of their bodies, is what helped them maintain it's purity and strength, by limiting dilution of the blood and preventing any competing lines. Naruto might disagree with the method, and perhaps that could be more readily tweaked, but it's hard to argue against centuries-old traditions and historical results, and the Hyuuga are one of the clans with the kind of pull that I could see might make even a stubborn Hokage think twice about ruling too harshly against them.

That's not to say I won't run with your interpretation, though. It's your game, and I want to be a part of it. I just might be inclined to play someone from a branch of the family who want to reinstate the practice, or a version of it, if it was removed. That should be dramatic and interesting, shouldn't it?  ;)

Thanks! That HP figure helps with one figure. What about Action points? I kinda forgot to ask about those! ^.^;;

Yeah, Wealth is a difficult one to nail down on a hypothetical basis. It works much better when one is practicing with it from level 1, but speculating on what it "should" be at a particular level is bound to result in some rather large presumptions about their spending habits. It's one of those things where spending practices actually have a large long-term effect. Those that save money hurt a lot early on, but pay off big time in the end. The current method assumed everyone has been scraping by with modest practices since the beginning, doing without armor or weapons the whole time, etc. But, really, it's hard to tell who would or wouldn't do that, and it would make a big difference. There isn't going to be a perfect method to determine this.

Your method is definitely on the rather generous side, though. If you're fine each player having some pretty luxurious items, it'll work just fine, I suppose. But, if you're looking to limit things, maybe just assume every purchase one make starting out reduces their Wealth by 1 additional point (min 1), unless it's worth under half their current total? Just an idea. Though, I'm sure there's problems with that too. Like I said, there's no perfect method to this.

I don't think it'll mess anything up to leave them separate. It just makes it a little less likely that anyone would invest, because those skills are a little too niche compared to everything else. Adding the +2 skill/lvl was pretty generous as well, especially on top of the skill grouping (although the skill division in d20 modern was pretty silly). Still, between obscure knowledge skills, cross-class skills, and skill tactics (costing 2 skill points a piece), I'd think a high Int character would still have plenty of uses for their points. Again, though, not exactly gonna protest it. It's not like it'll concern my character much.

Anyway, thanks again! With any luck, I might have a completed character sheet for you and a basic write up tonight. If not, then certainly in the next couple of days.  :D

Zaer Darkwail

I actually forgot that +2 SP per level thing.....updated both sheets again :P. Also this time rolled wealth for Wolfy's char as well. Now besides buying gear, chars are done.

Yuki Aoi Sanseki Wealth

Starting Wealth; 6 (+1 occupation, +1 genin, +1 profession)
2-7 level profession rolls; 15, 23, 19, 22, 22 and 15
Math; 15 vs 5 = +2 and +1 from profession for 8, 23 vs 8 = +3 and +2 profession 13, 19 vs 13 = +1 and +2 profession 16, 22 vs 16 = +1 and +2 profession 19, 22 vs 19 = +0 and +2 profession 21, 15 vs 21 = no wealth progress.

Feel free to have a look, if you wan an eyeful of stats.  ;)

Would you mind if I used your sheet for my character? Or perhaps pin-point as to where you found this?

Still trying to figure out how this works. It is not often I play stuff like this so I am kinda... confused.

Vex

Sure! I actually just adapted it from an old 3.5e sheet I found. I'm not quite finished with it, I meant to add a Technique section and maybe expand on the battle stats a little, but if you like it, feel free! Anyone is free to use it however they want!

Yeah, the 3.5e/Pathfinder/d20 systems are on the heavy side, to be sure. If you're not familiar with the system, I could see anyone being pretty confused by it all. Heck, I'm very familiar with it, but it even takes me a while to put together. Still, don't hesitate to ask for help if you need it. I'll be sure to answer any questions if I can, and Zaer is amazingly quick with these things. I'm sure he'd be able to help you out, if he has the time.
