getting voiced?

Quick question: this whole thing about 'getting voiced' on IRC..how does it work? It's like 'claiming' a nickname, right? Thanks in advance ^^

Not quite. I'm not as well-versed in IRC-speak as some others, but I believe that 'claiming' a nickname is when you register your nick.

Getting voiced (that little plus sign next to your nick, I believe) is mostly to show that you're a member of Elliquiy, and not just some random IRC-floater who happened to wander into Elliquiy's channel.

If you want to get voiced, just stick around until Xillen or one of the other IRC-capable mods/sirens/satyrs come on. :)

There's some truth in your original question, though.

We ask members to claim a nickname on the server. Then we add that nickname to a list associated with the channel. Everyone on that list will be voiced automatically. It would be a hassle if we had to do it manually all the time.

And as said before, the network is used by a lot more sites, not just Elliquiy, so chances are that the nickname you're using here on Elliquiy is no longer available in the chat. There's nothing that can be done about it, save for hoping that the current owner stops using the nickname for 25 days, which means they're no longer registered.
