So, had an idea for a bit about running an Only War game. The game would be set in a distant part of the galaxy where most of the canonical stuff isn't, so that I can run something without having to worry about stepping on what's already been established in-verse.

The idea behind the game is that the planetary systems where the guardsmen are from is in dire trouble. After fighting off an attack by a Tyranid Hive Fleet, the system's Regiments are severely undermanned. To counter this, the Master of the local Space Marine chapter has ordered that regiments on planets who's numbers have been depleted be merged. Your squad is the result of this reorganization. Though you may be from different planets, and have once served with different men, you fight for one goal; the survival of mankind.

For regiments, you have a bit of a choice. I would be building the regiment either way, but you can choose between a randomly generated one or a more boring basic one that isn't random based on a concept you put forth. Want a Storm Trooper who came from a regiment that did hot drops behind enemy lines but totally isn't an ODST? I'll write it up. Or you can write it up and I'll provide the mechanics.

Inclined to play a penal regiment member... Possibly a rough and tough female, though perhaps also devout.

Hmmm.

Oh this is great, I love Only War and already have several characters made for this.

Oh damn. I never played Only War but I always wanted to try. I'll keep an eye on this.

Yup. I'm setting it away from all the main activity so players can have a bit of attachment before their guardsmen (or women) meet a bloody end.

Actually funny, all the games I have played of this causalities have been pretty damn low.

It would certainly be fun to play Only War for once, instead of DMing. Would I be allowed to play a Commissar or Sanctioned Psyker?

ShadowFox89

I'm going to allow up to 2 people to play one of the Support Specialties, so you may. I'll probably take around 5-6 people depending on gender mix and ability layout.

Hello, I would LOVE to get in on this if you have room. Never actually played the game, but I've got several of the books kicking around and I have a passing familiarity with the rules. I tend to prefer more rules lite/story over dice but I'm good with anything that lets me play in the grimdark future.

I have a couple of concepts I've been playing with:

One is  from a Sapper regiment by the name of Malcolm Octavian Dolittle Winter, serving in the 21st Albion Combat Engineers under Colonel St John Kerr-Avon. A Sergeant, Winter is used to being detached from his unit to help build fortifications, destroy enemy strongpoints, survey land and generally handle all the grunt work that Sappers have always had to handle. Sarcastic and a natural cynic, Winter would really rather be back home working as an architect than here in the mud, but if he has a job to do he'll at least do it properly. His lack of discipline has earned him the occasional sharp word from the Commissar, but engineers are valuable enough in a war zone that the only punishment he has gotten so far is a long list of more difficult and dirty jobs to do. This, of course, is his plan. So long as he keeps busy digging trenches and setting up latrines he's not getting shot at and if there's one thing Winter wants, it's to make it through the war alive.

The other's a little odd, but bear with me. Priscilla "Pixie" Harkness volunteered to take her older brother's place when he was conscripted. Her brother Priam was sickly and his parents needed him to help manage their business, and she knew that she was tougher than him in spite of her small size. A natural talent with machinery and her diminutive size helped her earn a place as a Chimera driver and Operator during training, and her cheerful manner and optimism have made her a good many fast friends among her unit during long months of garrison duty. Her enthusiasm for keeping her squad's morale high has gotten her a few reprimands for little things like 'mistakenly' firing on a herd of groxen while on guard duty and then convincing her platoon sergeant to organize an impromptu barbecue for the men, but so far she's managed to keep her still secret and it's not as though she even turns much of a profit on it. Besides, the Lieutenant seems happy to look the other way so long as the odd bottle shows up in his tent.

Let me know what you think.

Awesome, I'll definitely roll up a Commissar then (as I doubt I can bring in the one I've been using with my group). Perhaps someone new to the front, to ensure morale of this new, ramshackle regiment is within acceptable levels?

Didn't mean to suggest otherwise... though as I recall that can vary widely from regiment to regiment, so long as the Levy is met. No?

But what I meant by odd in Pixie's bio is that she volunteered to take her elder brother's place as a conscript... not a usual situation, for a petite daughter to take the place of a male recruit. But she's a warm body that can carry a lasgun, and it's all grist to the Departmento Munitorum.

So there's two potential specialists, and one is spoken for?  (The comisar?)

Could I bring in either a psyker or an ogryn?

*raises a hand* ShadowFox, I'm perfectly happy with a randomly created regiment.

Yeah I would like a regiment sort of like the Mordians or the Fusiliers

Oh, I thought the idea was that we would be from different regiments, but forced together by a Space Marine jackass who doesn't know better.  :P

My mistake, withdrawing interest, I am already playing in an ordinary OW-game.
