The Beginning
No one really knows from who's mind the creatures sprang, even to this day. What scholars have managed to gather, however, is that the planetary alignment of our star system and several others were responsible in part. It was an event never seen before, and one that will likely not occur again for several long millennia. However it happened, the tenuous veil between reality and dream was broached, sending creatures of myth and fiction pouring forth into the world of Ceres.

In an uninhabited mountain reach, a sonic boom lit through the night air as twelve sleek forms soared from what could only be called a tear in the night sky. The coloration varied, but it seemed that there were two of each, and six of the twelve decidedly pregnant. For weeks they traveled by night alone, unsure of the dangers of being seen by what may inhabit the world they had come to be on. Eventually, an opening in the jagged earth was found.

Well hidden, and several thousand feet up, the opening to the cavern system was nigh impossible to get to and even harder to see. All twelve forms arrowed toward the opening, and quickly flitted inside. For nearly a decade, the creatures cleared out all manner of beasts from their new home. Carcasses were burnt to ash so as to leave no trace of anything that might harm the future generations that were still housed safely within female bodies.

Once the caverns were deemed safe, or as safe as they could have been, the building of nests began. Each pair gathered materials, then melted and burned them into shapes and sizes suiting their own needs. It wasn't long before the males were quite literally chased from the nesting areas, and the process of laying the eggs into nests began. Spheres of varying colors and sizes soon filled the small areas, only waiting for the perfect moment in which to awaken and hatch.

Female bodies curled protectively about the nesting sites, letting not even their mates in close. It took another decade before the first, single egg began to rock violently. Arrow-shaped heads swiveled up, watching with intense curiosity as tiny spider-webbing cracks appeared on the perfect golden surface. With a deep, body vibrating hum, the adults began to sing to the young ones still not awake.

The entire process of hatching took nearly seventy years, with only one little stillborn emerald in the clutch that went uncounted for. In one go, the species had grown exponentially, and was well on it's way to flourishing on it's new home.

The coming of the Dragon, had begun.

Current Events
Now that the draconic species was on it's way to populating Ceres, the dragonlets have taken to the skies, exploring the immediate areas around the nesting grounds. It has been nearly three hundred years since the laying, and as the wyrms begin to leave the nest when they reach the appropriate age, they are beginning to discover that the world is not entirely all fun and games like it had been in the first portion of their lives.

Something else has followed their parents through the tears all over Ceres. Where the dragons had been made of the substance of dreams, the flip side has made its presence of known in the stolen body of a silver. Black as night, he has vanished northward, spilling living nightmare into the world in his wake. Millions of tiny spiders are spreading hidden through Ceres, intelligently infecting the most powerful beings they can find, whether man, inanimate object, or beast.

Wars rage to the north as elves and men clash over land rights and natural resources. The ground shakes with an unknown force, timeless in its own right beneath the earth.

The world seems to have reached a boiling point. What role will you play?

FAQ / Dragon Playing 101

QuoteIssue: I love the concept, but I have NO IDEA how to play a dragon!

Answer:
Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
This one is simple, and one of the issues that I run across most during recruitment and talks with potential players. So, here is a list that may help you to slip into character a bit better while playing one of the scaled beauties.

  • First off, Dragons are the top of the food chain. They live longer (in the end) than just about anything within the world of Ceres. Thusly, most of them have realized when it comes to interacting with other life within the world of Ceres that very little proves their equal in raw power.
  • When it comes to Humanoids (elves, men, haas, etc), most Dragons have a wary respect for them, as they haven't the slightest clue what they are capable of. Unpredictability has bred caution into them when it comes to interactions.
  • If you were to peg their grooming habits and sense of self-image, feline would be the best way to describe the race/species. They are usually impeccably groomed, and enjoy knowing how beautiful they are. One of the well-known downfall in most all lore about dragons is their pride in appearance.
  • When it comes to personalities, the draconic race is as varied as any other. Some are vain, others patient beyond measure, and others still may be kind. However, the term "wyrm" is usually a sore spot for them when it comes to pronunciation, and will get a dragons ire worked up more than anything. They don't mind the pronunciation "werm", but if it even comes close to "worm", they find it downright insulting as it picks at an ego best left untouched.
  • Most of the draconic species will nest down and begin collecting things that they treasure and find beautiful. In lore, these treasure troves have been sought after time and time again, claiming vast fortune. While this may be true in some cases for those who have a love for precious metals or gems, the term "beauty" may differ from dragon to dragon (i.e., one may collect paintings, another bits of glass, and another weaponry).
  • Dragons keep their "true" names secret. A true name is ever changing as the creature ages and gains power. An example being my own, Reoallthazin. His name at hatching was simply Reo. At certain stages in a dragons life, their true name changes, and another syllable, letter, etc is tacked on to reflect this. Rarely, if ever will a dragon divulge his entire name to anything other than another wyrm, as it is a measure of respect. The longer the name, the more powerful the dragon feels he is.
  • Curiosity. This is another big one for the draconic race. They are still very, very new by most standards and things that spark their curiosities are often pursued. Riddles and puzzles are definitely something that most, if not all absolutely adore, as very few are able to challenge the beasts in mental capacity.

QuoteIssue: Ugh - I want to join, but there are so many things going on, and so many PEOPLE!

Answer: This is another common one, and usually a deterrent to most people when it comes to joining Eden. However, the one thing that I would like to point out, is that there isn't quite as much going on as you might think! Eden encompasses an entire world Your play will happen in a much more localized area, depending on where you choose to start. Anything happening on other continents, or even in another part of the continent that you may currently be on is of no matter to you, and you honestly don't need to pay any attention to it if you don't want to.

QuoteIssue: Okay, I have my character made, but I have NO idea where to start. Sooo overwhelming!

Answer: Another easy one. As a Dragon, most of the time you will start out in or around the nesting area in the Kayzorian thread, or in the nest itself. After you're established and comfortable, you're more than free to head out and explore on your own, or with a few of the others (most of the players in Eden are extremely friendly, and love having more people to interact with.

As a humanoid character, where you start out is really up to you. Each continent has icons on the individual maps in each thread that indicate cities and who owns them. If all else fails, simply see which thread has the most posts (as those tend to be the most active, obviously), and hop right in.

QuoteIssue: Okay, so I've figured out where I want to start. What do I do now?

Answer: Pretty much whatever you want! The world is made as a "sandbox", which means that you're free to shape things, kill things, work, whatever you'd like. The only thing that I can point out to you for this question is to BE AWARE - *ALL* (and I cant stress this enough) - ALL of your actions have consequences!. If you set about killing people, eventually some form of law is going to catch word of it, and the hunt will be on!

Humanoid Races (Now playable!)

Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide

Peranos

Desc: Of the two known sub-races of surface dwelling elves, the Peranos are the race closer to nature itself. Their homes are not built, but grown over centuries within the treetops of the dense forests across Ceres. Their skin tones, rather than being pale whites and lighter tans lean more towards the richer earth tones mirroring the trees from living in and under the sun their entire lives. They are flighty, and more playful than their city-dwelling cousins, and delight in teasing one another openly in both sexual and non-sexual natures.

Other Details:

Crafting Specialty - Woodworking/weaving
Preferred Dwelling - Treetrunks/treetops
Aging - x8 slower than normal (800 year max)

Trithos

Desc: Of the two known sub-races of surface dwelling elves, the Trithos are more earthbound, and prefer to have static homes that need no tending. This allows them to build upon the libraries of knowledge that are kept hidden in the depths of their libraries. They tend to be slightly more serious than their cousins, spending quite a bit more time within their cities, rather than out in the open woods.  Their skin tones vary from pearlescent whites to lighter tans, but rarely darker than that.

Other Details:

Crafting Specialty - Precious Metalworking
Preferred Dwelling - "temple" cities (Marble/crystalline, etc)
Aging - 8x slower than normal (800 year max)

Draishok

The Draishok were rumored to have once been elves that chose to worship an offshoot of the main elven deities. Rather than revere the earth, they worshipped the sea and all of its bringings. Thus they were granted the ability to breathe underwater for months at a time simply by filtering seawater through the pores of their skin. They’ve built their cities within coral reefs in the more tropical waters of Ceres. Physically, their skin tends to be lighter, with hints of blue and green coloring. Upon land, they appear to look almost identical to the Trithos other than the skin undertones.

**Gm's Note: Please note, these are NOT mermaids/mermen. The first sheet I get with fins, I will roll it up, and redden your bottom with it. Then kindly hand it back, and ask for you to edit  :-)

Other Details:

Crafting Specialty - Glazing (Glassmaking)
Preferred Dwelling - Modified Coral
Aging - 6x slower aging (600 Year max)

Haas-Filoth

The Haas-Filoth, or “Desert Born” are a nomadic culture consisting mainly of what technically is a half-breed of the Centos and Peranos. Of all the cultures, the Haas are the most openly military-trained of the known humanoids. Preferring to use the culturally trained weapon, the “Tier-Dran”, they are among the most deadly of combatants at close range. The Tier-Dran is a blade, roughly two to three feet in length that attaches to the inner arms of the warriors (both male and female), and is able to be pushed out and retracted using simple centrifugal force.

Other Details:

Crafting Specialty - Carpet Weaving
Preferred Dwelling - Tents (Nomadic)
Aging - 4x slower than normal (400 Year Max)

Centos

The most common of the five races, the Centos are what we would refer to as human. They vary as much in personality as they do color, size, and shape. Even with a shorter lifespan than the other main races, their thirst for knowledge has made them considerable, and powerful masters of the studies that they choose to pursue, whether it be politics, tinkering, or any of the other fine arts and scientific studies that the mind may wander towards.

Other Details:

Crafting Specialty - Alchemical
Preferred Dwelling - Stone/Clay building
Aging - Normal Aging (80 Year max)

Racial War Tactics & Technology

Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide

Peranos

The Peranos fighting style is adapted to the thick cover that their forest homes normally allow them. They prefer hit and run tactics to minimalize effort while maximizing the damage they're able to inflict on large forces. They will almost never confront an enemy head on if it can be avoided. They excel in flanking maneuvers, night attacks, supply raids, poisoning, and ambushes. All weapons are made from the natural materials at hand, including wooden quarterstaves, bows, spears, and stone tipped arrows. Metal tipped spears and arrows are ocassionally seen, likely traded for crafted items via the Trithos.

Trithos

The trithos are the only true elven force that excels in head-on, open field combat. Using inderlocking body-length shields made of thin, enchanted metals, and a devastating combination of long spears, they are well known to break cavalry attacks with efficiency and ruthlessness. When forced to break ranks, they prefer simple broadswords as defense. Support for the ranks of shield walled trithos are most often longbowmen.

Centos
The Centos thrive in locations that they are able to use cavalry and superior numbers to overwhelm their enemies. The sheer amount of ground forces that they are able to muster, combined with a high pain threshold often yeilds a high bodycount, both on the enemy side, as well as their own. Most Centos have adapted the battle cry "Bury them in bodies", and it is noted that most Centosian foot soldiers have a touch of wreckless madness to them.

Draishok

The Draishok prefer, much like their cousins the Peranos, to use guerilla warfare to conquer any land based threats. As battles to overtake their cities have never occured, they tend to focus more on water-source assaults. Whereas the Peranos lie in wait up in the trees, the Draishok tend to occupy rivers, lakes, ponds, and beaches. Their strategies are simple, allow the invaders no water to sate thirst, and attack them when they become weakened. Preferred weaponry includes slings, tridents, and thin, needle-like daggers often grown from coral that are meant to break off after enterting a body. Most weapons are coated in a thin layer of venom from what would be known as Lionfish, or the ever dangerous puffer fish.

Haas-Filoth

The Haas have a dervish style fighting that is unique to their culture. Whereas most of the other land-based races are set in clear defense, the Haas believe that the best defense is a distraction based offense. Close quarters combat with shorter, smaller weapons is their forte, along with using the cloth often draped about their bodies to hide the locations of weapons in motion. When it comes to assaults against others, they often prefer flanking tactics paired with diversion and confusion.

Siege Engines
The Centos and the Trithos have roughly the same mastery of usage. Most commonly the ballistae, trebuchet, and war tower are smong their arsenal. The other three races prefer not to use anything that they cannoy carry easily.

Dragon & Human Mating
Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide

Dragon + Dragon mating.

~Dragon mating between any male and female of an species may produce offspring.
~Offspring of a mated draconic pair produces eggs of every color, due to a randomization of genetic code
~Gestation of the female, due to instinctual need to re-populate, is days alone until the eggs are laid into a suitable nest. The eggs WILL NOT be laid until a suitable, defensable nest has been found and built.

Dragon + Human mating

~Male dragons attempting to mate with humans in draconic form will do a significant amount of damage to the females reproductive system (I.e., kill them), due to physiological differences. The barbs on a male dragons anatomy to mate in flight would tear a woman apart, no matter the size.
~Female Dragons attempting to mate with their human counterpart would simply be... akward (Hotdog down a hallway + sharp scales much?)
~Any offspring resulting in a pairing will be that of the form that was taken during the sexual act. (I.e, human horizontalness = human child, while dragon + dragon will yield a clutch of eggs.)

Generalized Dragon Abilities

Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
~Shapeshifting - Each dragon has a human form that it may change into and out of at will. However, once this change has been begun one way or the other, it is continuous, and uncontrolled until finished (i.e, no stopping in the middle of it somewhere). There is no halfway point between forms, Dragons are either reptilian, or humanoid.

~Thermal vision (In addition to normal vision)

~Self-enhanced flight speeds (only usable on cross-continental or oceanic flights.)

~Enhanced Healing - Properties within dragon saliva give the ability to heal non-life threatening cuts and abrasions. Threatening wounds (to an extent), can be brought down to a manageable level, but it saps a large amount of energy.

Magic/Spellcasting - New!

Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
Spellcasting in wars was outlawed and agreed upon back near the first devastating war that broke out among the races. Entire cities were leveled, mountain ranges were toppled, and seas boiled to nothing. As a result, each culture placed strict laws on any caught using spellcasting for offensive purposes, most commonly the removal of both hands and tongue.

As always, those with sly minds were able to work around these laws, and began to practice differing forms of spellcraft. Enchantments laid upon weapons and armor were recognized as the only acceptable form of spellcrafting, as it did not directly involve those rare enough to become adept at such studies. Despite any wars that may or may not be going on, it is not uncommon to find the occasional Centos with elven made weaponry and enchantments mixed in with more traditional soldiers.

Though the elven nations have become the most adept in the usage of these magics, it is the Centos, surprisingly enough, that have made the greatest strides in the study of the subject.

General Info

~ Humanoid spellcasters are known by several names. Spellcasters, soothesayers, witches, and conjurers are but a few, but of the most common.

~ Humanoid magic requires a certain "something" (commonly referred to as "The SparK") to be present within to actually be of use. One may study these things, but never be able to perform them to any use as they are not born with the innate spark needed to shape the forces around them.

~ Humanoid magic may not be taught to dragons, as they are not of the same planes of existence. There may be similarities in result, but the means are different to reach the end. Attempts at using humanoid magic as a wyrm will likely result in headaches, nausea, etc.

~ The spark needed to perform spellwork is a rare, though items that have been enchanted by those with the spark may be used by anyone (unless specified by the items description).

~ Dragon magic as of right now, is an unknown to the world as a whole. The details will be unfurled as the plotline "The Gift of Magic" is progressed in.

QuoteDragon Creation notes to keep in mind!

~As per site rules, ~160 years (16 years old) is the minimum age allowed, but 18(180+) is preferred.
~  MAXIMUM dragon age before they are kicked from the nest is 250. At this point, momma and poppa punt em from the nest and tell em to get a job ;)
~ All six pairs of parents are ALIVE. Please do not kill my parents :(
~ There are no "rogue" dragons that came through and are running around.
~ Ages ABOVE 250 are fine, but please don't go any higher than 300, as it has to make sense with the parents ages as well.
~ Scars and tattoos are fine - As LONG as they have reason to be there.
~GM note* If your character is between 180-240 you were in the last half of eggs hatched, if you are between 241-300 you were in the first half. Please pay attention to how old you are making your characters to keep it realistic. i.e. you cannot be 300 and be the last hatched for example.
~ Contact with the human races has been MINIMAL to NONE AT ALL. They are taught to avoid the humanoid races. Interacting with them risks discovery of the main nest, and puts the little ones in danger.
~ They are considered a MYTH at the moment, akin to the myth of Bigfoot/Sasquatch as a modern comparison.

Pretty interested, but I want more details. And I will not rp sex as a dragon. I know that your other game had humans and dragons. I'd much rather play what I know ;)

Posting rate will be fairly flexible. I'll be working in some nonsense about a secondary sun revolving around the planet itself as it rotates so the day/night phases will be extended. I.e, one side of the map may be lit up as "daytime" for a week, and the same for night. I usually adjust based on the players.

As for playable characters, the story will 95% revolve around the dragons themselves as the story begins.*HOWEVER*, each dragon will be able to choose a humanoid form to shapeshift into, once they have met the respective race. So the possibilities are fairly large. There are no restrictions on male dragon into female form, vice versa. Just know that there will be a "main" shapeshifting form for each dragon that you choose that they basically settle into.

As the game moves on, secondary characters will be allowed to give players a chance to have a humanoid character and a draconic one.

The basics of the mating stuff will be pulled from the first game, with a few minor alterations.

As I said, all dragons will have a humanoid form, and eventually, characters will be made available as human-ish races. It won't be a strictly-lizard game. That'd be kinda boring >.<

I see hell in your eyes. Taken in by surprise. And touching you makes me feel alive.

Here lizard, lizard, lizard.

Speak of the devil. Haha.

Here's an example character sheet, and likely one of the two that I will end up playing. (I have a gold that I'm still debating on using, and can't seem to choose between the two haha.)

Quote
Character:

Name:Reoallthazin (Reo, for the lazy)
SPecies: Silver
Sex: Male
Age: 215

Humanoid Appearance:

Hair: Brown
Eyes: Blue
Skin: Pale
Weight: 185lbs
Height: 6'2
Other: N/A

Information:

Personality: Reo is insatiably curious, overly protective, and has a possessive streak a mile wide. While he exudes an air of cocky-confidence, his naivety often shows through, including his general distaste for non-functional clothing.

Background: [At least two decent paragraphs.]

Reo was one of the first silvers to emerge from his metallic prison just a little over two centuries ago. Into a world of darkness he was born, until the strange vision slipped into place, and suddenly his world was awash in blues, yellows and reds. For almost a century and a half, those were the only colors he knew.

Eventually though, his mentors and parents led him from the caverns and let him peek from the maw of the hidden opening of their den. His eyes naturally adjusted from the thermal to what would be considered normal sight. His eyes were assailed by colors that he'd never before seen or known, and it was absolutely fascinating. They allowed him almost a week to simply sit and observe from nearly a thousand feet up, until they deemed it time for him to take his first flight.

Without warning, both parents simply gave him a shove over the edge. Panic tore through his scaled body as he plunged towards the greenery below. Instinct soon took over though, and the wings on his back snapped out audibly, launching him back upwards with the momentum he'd gained.

And so the process soon went with his nestmates. Each was pushed into flight, and began their exploration of the world, though never leaving the nest for more than a few hours to hunt, and never leaving sight of the hidden cave opening. He still had much to learn as his body grew to maturity, and they all seemed to be of the same mind when it came to straying too far from home.

I'll be happy to return! I might can even get my partners back I miss this group and my characters in it greatly
"One thing you who had secure or happy childhoods should understand about those of us who did not, we who control our feelings, who avoid conflicts at all costs or seem to seek them, who are hypersensitive, self-critical, compulsive, workaholic, and above all survivors, we're not that way from perversity. And we cannot just relax and let it go. We've learned to cope in ways you never had to." ~Author, Piers Anthony

That would be wonderful :) Just keep in mind that this is *not* the old game, and riders/bonding, etc may not happen for a very long time, and even then it's something that won't happen to everyone.

I'm interested in joining the revamp, enjoyed the last iteration of this group game.

Adonis

Glad to hear it. We're in desperate need of some male players it seems!

That's fine. That was the problem with the old ne anyway. Keeping partners. I've only skimmed, but we only get to start as dragons to begin with right? I can easily convert either or both of my dragons.

Quick question about the dragons only...On the CS, it wants a background, but if we're all starting out as hatchlings of the same Nest, wouldn't we all pretty much have the same background?

Yes. Just stick to one for now.

Vaguely, yes. You have to figure that they would have done *something* in the few hundred years that they've been in there though. Everyone starts at at *least* 180 or more. Plenty of time to explore caverns, etc. Does that make a little more sense?

If it helps, take a look at Reo's background for an example. I re-did it to reflect the changes. They're not hatching after 180 years, they've simply been in there that long.

I'll probably bring in my Silver I never got to use before. Background is gonna be tricky. But I can whip up something simple.
