The Grim Collide (Fate/Stay Inspired Anime Mash-up) - Interest Check

  Hi, I'm Presta!

  As an Assistant GM of Game Protagonists at War, is it any wonder I like character mash-ups?  I so do!  So delicious!  We used to have a few anime mashups running around, but they died for whatever reason.  So, while I was thinking about that, after binge-watching Fate/Stay Night and playing with photoshop, this happened..



  Ignoring the fact that I can't shade Goku worth a damn, the premise is pretty clear!

  This will be an Anime Character Mash-up, at least partly based on the mythos and structure of the Holy Grail Wars from Fate/Stay Night.  Seven human Masters have been been imbued with powerful spiritual Servants, for the sole purpose of partaking in a death-match between each other.  The last one standing will win the Holy Grail, and subsequently be granted any wish of their choosing.  At least, that's what you've been told.

  Players will be able to choose both Master and Servant.  The twist, of course, comes from the Mash-Up.  Any character from any anime is welcome!

  A Master is a human or humanoid with a large amount of spiritual energy.  These individuals often come from powerful magician families, whether they are aware of it or not.  A few of them are cultivated for the War over the course of generations, while others are not mages at all, and stumble into the fray through unlikely actions.  Once a Servant appears, Masters form a link with their Servants, creating a pact that is unique between themselves.  A Master provides the spiritual energy a Servant needs to remain in this world, and for that, a Servant usually obeys them.  Still, it doesn't always mean they agree.  And for that, the Masters have 3 Command Seals, tattoos which force utter compliance to a single instruction.
 
  While Masters are not necessarily helpless, they are almost always weaker than any one Servant.  For the purposes of this game, a Master is "only human."  They might have certain powers, weapons, or even exemplary skills.  But they cannot reliably achieve what you'd call a super-human level of ability.  This complicates battles because, with very few exceptions, it is always easier to kill the Master and allow the Servant to starve, than it is to go the other way around.  Examples of Masters would be Osaka up there, early-series Tenchi, Yoko Litner, or Super Milk Chan.

  Servants, in the original material, were Heroic Spirits of Legend, forcibly incarnated by the Grail and summoned by a Master to participate in the War.  In The Grim Collide, Servants are powerful anime characters, forcibly ripped from their own reality to serve in this one.  The original material bears noting, however, because these things are ferociously strong.  They come from worlds where the superhuman is often observed, making it merely exceptional as opposed to unrealistic.  And boy, are these guys exceptional!  Many Servants can dematerialize at will, allowing them to leave and appear without a trace.  A Servant requires spiritual energy to retain its incarnation, as well as to perform better in battle. This energy is usually given by the Master, but for those unconfined by morality, there are other ways to go about getting it.  Everybody has a little Mana, after all..

  There are seven kinds of servants in the Fate/Stay series, each with their own perks.  They also have Noble Phantasms, a weaponized or mythic representation of their Heroic Legacy, which basically becomes a super move.  For the purposes of this game, I'm not going to have Noble Phantasms, since I feel they'd be unnecessary and restrictive.  I mean, this is anime we're talking about!  Having just one super move is sometimes a handicap on its own!  xD  I am, however, considering using the 7 Classes System, however, just because I think it might give people a little inspiration into what or who they'd like to pick. 

  Saber is a close combat weapons specialist, often considered to be the strongest out of all the classes.  Their high agility and strength are somewhat offset by their inability to diversify, or to dematerialize.
    (ex: Dracule "Hawk Eyes" Mihawk, Guts, etc..)  Dibs have been called!
  Archer is a long range specialist.  They have incredible eye-sight, able to fire any projectile accurately across vast distances.  They also have an ability to survive long periods without a Master's mana supply.
    (ex: Goku, Mami Tomoe, etc..) - Dibs have been called!
  Assassin is a stealth specialist.  Deception, concealment, slight of hand, and shadows are the hallmarks of the class, despite not usually being as strong as other classes.
    (ex: Shijima, Yoruichi, etc..) - Dibs have been called!
  Rider is a mounted combatant.  While they aren't usually as powerful as other classes, their mounts and their abilities to ride damn near anything give them a wild edge.
    (ex: Bean Bandit, Hiiro Yuui, etc..}  Dibs!
  Caster is a magician specialist.  Sometimes the most feared of the classes, Caster is often subtle, usually prioritizing territory over combat to achieve victory.
    (ex: Lina Inverse, Dark Schnieder, etc..)  Dibs!
  Berserker is a physical monster.  They trade their sense and reason for raw power, allowing even weaker characters to achieve more potent abilities.  Or make already strong characters crazy strong!
    (ex: Luffy, Takamura Mamoru, etc..)  Dibs have been called!
  Lancer is a harrier specialist, prioritizing speed and versatile weapons to break their foes.
    (ex: Yukimura Sanada, Maka Alburn, etc..}  Dibs!

  Now, in true Fate-Stay fashion, every rule has an exception.  There might be more servants running around, even from previous Wars.  The boundary between which is the Master and which is the Servant can be blurred into meaninglessness.  And of course, the class system described can reinterpreted until The Archer is fighting with his bare hands against a Saber with a Gun Blade.  That's why I wanted to throw this out there!  Almost all the rules are made to be broken, at least if you have a good reason for breaking them!

  A couple rules I will state are final, however!

  1) - I'd like to have some kind of connection between the Masters and Servants.  At least a nod to the genre, the personality, or some kind of common ground.  Osaka and Goku are a good pair, because even coming from vastly different realities, they share a common, erm, intellectual discourse and love of fine cuisine.  xD Another example..:

   Yes:  Spike Spiegel summoned Vash the Stampede.  He's been turning him in for Bounty Money, breaking him back out, and doing it again in seven countries, just to make sure the Grail War isn't a total wash!  AWESOME!
   No: Spike Spiegel summoned Card Captor Sakura, because those are the player's favorite animes.  ...they have nothing in common, and every battle is screwball awkward.  See what I mean, there?

  2) - Character Death

   Sorry guys, but this is even a theme in the actual material.  Love it or hate it, this is a war to the death.  And your characters all face the likely possibility of being destroyed.

   Now, there is a caveat.  If your Master loses a Servant, you can head to the Overseer (played by me) who will either keep you safe or hook you up with another Servant, if they are able.  The Overseer remains on Neutral Ground, and is scary strong for a human.  However, the Overseer is not invincible, and if someone really wants your melty bloods, they can try to get it, even there.

   There's also a caveat for Servants that lose their Masters.  Losing your mana supply is crippling, but it doesn't mean you die right off the bat.  If you can find another Master with sufficient energy before you starve out, you can start fresh again.  Just check with me, because if you do that, I might want to insist that another player try to take the role of your Master.

  EDIT:  ..sigh.  Yes, rerolling does happen, even in the source material.  Yes, Masters can order their Servants to kill themselves, and Servants can turn on their Masters.  Just.. try not to overdo it, eh?

  3) - No System means Honor System

  I don't want a system in this game.  It screws me up.  So, there are no Mana Tallys, no life bars, no agility scaling, stuff like that.  But that does mean we're on the honor system.  Fights should be fun, but work out between yourselves how you want things to end up.  Remember the effects of crippling injuries, and keep a mental note of how much Mana you are blasting around, verses how much you'd actually have.  I'll step in to review disputes and such as they occur, but please be civil and keep the focus on the game play!

  4) - Power-Balancing

  I had a funny thought when I imagined Goku fighting.. well, anybody not from DBZ.  It mostly centered around how a man that can regularly destroy planets would have ANY difficulty beating ANYONE.  So, I came up with a somewhat inspired solution!  This reality is simply LESS FRAGILE than his home one.  The same goes for other heavies like Toriko and Ichigo.  Planets simply don't break as easily here.  Animals aren't as easy to chop into sashimi off screen, and souls don't get paralyzed under spiritual pressure as readily.  While you're still strong as hell, the setting world is simply made of stronger stuff, as a baseline.  Conversely, characters like Yuuse that aren't as powerful came from slightly studier realities.  This allows us all to fight on a relatively even playing field.

  If that's too confusing to use, we'll go with the other solution!  Ahem..  your Master doesn't have the mana to let you do that!  Simple as that!  Let me know which one you like, but in effect, it's you keeping ALL your powers, just in a place where things don't break as easily.  Or, you have to charge up / slaughter a town or two and reap their spiritual energy in order to pull off a big attack or power-state.  Honestly, not sure which I like better, so I'll take suggestions.

  5) - Forum Housekeeping

  ...You all do know what Type-Moon is known for, right?  And given how many times I yelled "JUST FUCK, ALREADY!" at Tohsaka Rin and Shirou, this should probably be pretty simple.  Yes, sex is allowed.  I'm going to ask that people put headers in red if something yummy is happening in the post, just to be polite.
  I like games in the Extreme Section, especially because it gives me the freedom to write the actual Holy Grail the way it's meant to be written.  Foreboding, ne?
  I am looking for a relaxed game.  I have a lot on my plate as it is, really.  So, if you guys are good with a once a week kind of posting schedule, this will prolly be your bag of chips!

  6) - One last thing..

  This is a competitive game.  The game ends when or if the last remaining Master / Servant combination causes the Holy Grail to appear, and with what they decide to do with it.  If this does happen, the RP might be sequeled.  But like some bizarre Hunger Games Anime Mash-up, the previous winners and/or survivors will still exist.  And so will the effects of their wishes.  It's a thing!

Wow! Fate Stay with Anime? You my dear friend just made me nerdgasm. Im a huge Fate fan. Though I am partial to Fate Zero myself! Ya you are right though, few rp's like this get really started. I joined one not to long before my hiatus and I do believe that barely got started. It was like a anime, fate stay as well but in a programmed VR world like in Sword Art. Any way I am interested.
