Los Santos:  Nuestra Muerte

One of the most feared and respected of the major crime families in the world, their reputation has long been seen as one of swift and cunning.
La familia de Los Santos is an organization so renowned within the criminal world, that it's reached almost mythical levels of greatness.  But greatness also paints a target on their back for others to aim for.  And there are always many aiming for the top.

Two years ago, the Ninth boss, or head of the family was killed when assassins were sent to take out the main family.  The attempt was unsuccessful in that the rest of the family lived.  But they only lived because of the sacrifice of their leader.  The assassins were destroyed by the boss's son, Cesar Santos, the future tenth.  Nobody but Ceser himself knows exactly what went on during that battle, but by the end of it, all the assassins were dead, and Cesar was the only one standing.  Now, years after that fateful event the family is still thriving, and the new Boss' own personal touch has created a unique atmosphere, one that's more than slightly different from the way things were run in the past.

Nuestra Muerte is a Mexican organized crime-themed sandbox game set in San Diego.  Here you can play anything from members of la familia de los Santos, or citizens living in the city they inhabit.  Nuestra Muerte is a dark fantasy game, centered around crime, danger, violence, and Death.  Alongside the mundane dangers of criminal life, the familia is also inflicted with the blessing of Death.  So it is Lady Death herself that they worship and offer fealty to.  And with it, the city itself belongs under Deaths jurisdiction.

Deity

Alongside the usual aspects of crime and violence, there is also a very prevalent supernatural theme wound throughout the game.  The family worships death but their worship differs slightly from Santa Muerte.  One of the main differences being that in their family,  they treat the worship of this figure as a deity not related to the catholic faith.  To them, Death is a Goddess, and their Goddess is one that is involved in every aspect of their lives.  If you join the family, you worship their God, if you are of little faith, you are no longer family.  This isn't blind fanaticism.  But devotion to a being that is real, and has guided their family for generations.  So prevalent is their practice that their religion has even spread to those who aren't directly involved with the family.  To some, it's seen more like a cult, to others, just another branch of Santa Muerte.  But it's gained a foothold in the southern part of San Diego, and the believers are increasing every day.

Death hounds

A hallmark of those with actual Santos blood is the Death hound that is assigned to them at birth.  A companion for life, and the afterlife, the hounds are large black dogs with pitch black fur, intense red eyes, and long tails.  They can only be seen completely and clearly by those with Santos blood, but they can be heard by anyone they or their masters wish.  Those involved with the family, or who may be targeted by the family, may catch glimpses of them out of the corner of their eyes, but they'll never see them clearly or in detail.  They are used frequently as protection or weapons depending on the situation, but all have their own distinct personalities.  They are all keen hunters, with sharp senses and brilliant minds, and work well together or alone.  They may choose to listen to others with Santos blood, but their allegiance will always be with their bonded Master or Mistress.  Those who are bonded to a hell hound share in certain characteristics.  They can be seen as a bit more...animalistic than an average person, since they can and often share an emotional connection that goes both ways.  When one feels blood lust, the other will often feel it as well; so some of the feelings their hounds feel can influence the person as well if said person isn't in complete control of themselves.  If one betrays the familia, or turns their back on their faith, they lose their connection to their Death hound; an extremely disabling experience that will impact the person for life.  Once a connection is cut, it cannot be remade, and the hound itself goes into the possession of the Boss for safekeeping.

La orden de la Rosa

Founded shortly after the rise of the Santos name, the order was created as a reward to the first Boss' daughter, the only daughter who unflinchingly stayed loyal to her father and brother, even when everyone else had given them up for dead.  Maria Santos had been a girl of strong will and unending grit.  And when Death gave them her blessing Maria was unwilling to sit back and contribute nothing to the familia.  So with her father's blessing, she learned the deadly art's.  In exchange, she and every firstborn girl child born from her direct line would forgo marriage, and dedicate themselves to teaching and caring for a small number of women who would serve the family whenever their talents were needed.  The order is small, and they recruit from the young orphaned girls who show promise.  As is the case, there won't be a lot of them in-game, and those characters who are a part of the Order all would share a common background.  Orphaned around 5-10, they would be visited by the Orders head, and if they passed whatever test the Sister posed to them, they'd be adopted by the family, and taken in.  They would then spend the rest of their youth training in subterfuge and assassination.  The way of their training would be a well-guarded secret, even from those of the highest levels in the Familia.  The only one who would know the most would be the Boss themselves.  But even they don't know every well-kept secret within the Order.  They are all fierce women, and extremely loyal.

Religion

"nuestra muerte sagrada"

"La muerte viene por todos nosotros"

The Worship of Our Lady Death has similarities to other religions, but also many differences.  They do have holy places of worship, For the Familia, it's a Little church in Barrio Logan.  An all-black building, along the far back wall, is an enormous alter with a large figure of Lady Death, her arm's outstretched as if welcoming you home.  Surrounding her is offerings made by the church and the congregation.  The offerings include mostly food items, but can also be pictures of deceased loved one's, trinkets, and letters.  Along with the offerings are numerous amounts of candles, usually kept lit by church devotees.  Unlike other religions, they do not hold sermons or keep to regularly scheduled meetings.  Most devotees congregate when they can, and take up solitary seats in the pews to pray to their Lady silently.  They do not keep to a regulated standard of behavior to guarantee entrance into an afterlife.  They know that death comes for them all, rich and poor, good or bad.  As long as they worship the Goddess, that's all that matters.  The main blood family has a small chapel in their main home.  And most devotees keep a small alter in their home as well.

Actions & Reactions

This game is going to be placed in Extreme to support the overall theme of crime and violence.  While this may allow a certain leeway with things of a sexual nature, such as non-consent, know that these actions have in-game repercussions.  The family will tolerate a lot of things, but some things are too dishonorable for them to allow.  Big actions=big consequences for the characters involved.

I'm thinking it would be fun to play a member of the Order of the Rose.

Torn between two potential face claims, though.

Made my decision.  I'd love to claim Cindy Gradilla when you have the time, hun.

Character Name: Ana Sofia Juárez
Age: 25
Gender: Cis-Female
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Occupation: Private Detective
Place of Birth: San Diego, California
Religion: Nuestra Muerte

Physical Appearance:  Ana Sofia is 5'9" of lean, well-toned muscle, with legs that seem to go on for miles and a face that, though sometimes severe, can make a saint consider sinning.  She favors form-fitting, but stretchy, jeans when she is on the job and in her everyday life, usually pairing them with low-heeled boots and plain shirts or tank-tops under one of her many leather jackets.  Her shoulder-length dark brown hair is worn loose and smoothed back from her face, or up in a small knot or ponytail, and she forgoes any make-up aside from eyeliner, mascara, and lip balm.

Personality:  To those who meet her while she's working, or who are simply strangers she doesn't trust enough let her guard down around, Ana can seem distant, even cold, holding others at arms-length.  But, once one gets to know her better, and spends time with her off the clock, they will find a deeply passionate woman who loves to drink, dance, and spend time with those she cares about.  When she trusts someone, she doesn't hold back, sharing herself fully with those she considers her friends and family.  She's fiercely loyal, fearless, wild, and intelligent enough to make her mind even more deadly than her skills with a gun.

Connection to the Family: Member of the Order of the Rose

Background:
Ana Sofia was born in America, but her parents were not.  They had immigrated illegally when her mother, Bianca, learned that she was pregnant.  Neither her mother nor her father, Ernesto, wanted their daughter to grow up in Tiajuana, where they struggled just to feed themselves and feared the dangers in their neighborhood.  So, they made the difficult, and dangerous, trek across the border with the help of a coyote, who nearly cleaned out their entire meager savings, and found refuge with Bianca's aunt.

Flora was a naturalized citizen who often took in immigrants until they could work and purchase themselves the necessary papers to find a place to live.  However, since Bianca was pregnant and the baby would need watching while both parents worked, they ended up remaining with Bianca until Ana Sofia was old enough to start school.  It was two weeks before she was meant to start kindergarten when ICE took her parents away and left her alone with Flora.

Three months later Flora received word that Bianca and Ernesto had been caught trying to cross the border again, but this time by American citizens acting as vigilantes.  They'd been gunned down trying to flee on foot from the trio of men in a jeep, then left for the birds.  It wasn't long after that when the head of the Order came and administered the test to see if Ana Sofia was the right fit.  From that day on, she was a member of the Los Santos family, taught how to fight and to kill, trained in ways that remained a mystery even to la Familia itself.  They honed her body, sharpened her wits, and taught her how to use her fiery spirit to her advantage.

Heya Biblio!

My character has been accepted, so let's say hello to...

Colin Bracken
Character Name:
Colin Bracken

Age:
32

Gender:
Male

Sexuality:
Fluid

Occupation:
Killer for Hire

Place of Birth:
Buffalo, New York. Raised in Polk County, Arkansas.

Religion:
None.

Physical Appearance:
One of millions of Caucasian men with black hair and a little too much of a five-o'clock shadow. At first glance, there is nothing notable about him. His eyes are dark brown and his hair is generally kept short and presentable. His dress sense is even less distinctive, although most would note that he prefers to wear a leather jacket.

The only thing to set him apart from most others is that his five-ten, one hundred and seventy-five pound frame appears to be pure muscle, along with a handful of scars. He has no tattoos. Probably a gym rat. Likely lists which celebrities he could beat up when drunk.

Right?

Personality:
Colin was diagnosed at a very young age with primary psychopathy, with all the usual characteristics of the disorder such as callousness, shallow affect, manipulation, and superficial charm. While not overtly sadistic, he has no qualms about inflicting violence and pain.

He only drinks socially, and takes no drugs. His sole vice is smoking, which is a habit that he's never been able to quit despite regular attempts.

Connection to the Family:
A 'known associate'. Someone outside the family contracted for his particular set of skills.

Background:
He was born to a single mother in Buffalo New York. His mother never told him who his father was, although there were a few hushed whispers here or there. His grandparents were supportive, providing his mother with work and even a place to live in the city, although they kept the shameful secret of her bearing a child out of wedlock a secret from their friends. Colin only interacted with the couple, except when they came to visit on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and his birthday.

He was diagnosed as a psychopath early on by the therapist that his grandparents paid for, showing the distinctive traits when tested. Therapy and treatment was ongoing when his parents and grandparents were involved in a car crash, leaving his mother and grandfather dead, and his grandmother in a wheelchair. Most of the rest of the family was not even aware of his existence, and after a few months in a foster home, his father came to offer him a home. A DNA test proved the man's paternity, and Colin joined the man on his property in Arkansas.

As it turned out, his father was a former Marine and an intelligence operative for most of the 90s. The man believed that a reckoning was coming for the country, and had been a recluse on his property in the years since his retirement, collecting weapons and hoarding survival equipment. From the age of seven, Colin was raised and trained as a soldier, preparing for the war that his father thought was coming. Colin was put in contact with others across the country that felt the same way, enhancing his training regimen.

Colin's father had a stroke and died when Colin was nineteen, leaving the youth the whole of his estate, which was a respectable property in Polk County Arkansas. The boy did not believe as his father did, but had no trouble influencing his father's friends and fellow believers into buying the property for a price well above the market value, and finding him work as a security consultant around the country.

As his business was established, Colin found himself in contact with a variety of less-than-scrupulous lawyers that were willing to pay well to see certain court cases go their way by any means necessary. Colin quickly came to the conclusion that these murders would be best covered up as the actions of a serial killer.

He enacted his first murder at the age of twenty-two in Oakland, California, covering the murder scenes the sort of characteristics that would lead investigators to believe that the murders were the act of a religious individual. It was lapped up by the locals, and the case was quickly passed onto the FBI. He does find legitimate work as a contractor with a handful of security companies that like having his input around the country, and it provides a good cover for his travelling. The lawyers even pay him as a consultant when his work for them is done.

It amuses him greatly to see 'specialists' trying to determine how he is picking his victims. There are even a few 'True Crime'-like episodes on TV depicting the actions of the The Merritt Ghoul. Not his favorite nickname, but it's the one that stuck, based on the location of his first kill.

Even though he tried to avoid working for organized crime, due to the complications involved, Colin found himself unwittingly doing work for one of the Nuestra Muerte Lawyers. When the lawyer himself ended up dead, there were a few that knew of the man's dealings that thought Colin was responsible. He did eventually end up explaining himself to those that mattered, but in doing so, he found himself tied to the group by association, and thus has no issues with taking what work they sent his way.

While he doesn't particularly believe in any of their beliefs, he knows well enough not to openly question them. He's not stupid, after all.

Caela

Here's the beginning of my Santos sister's sheet. Dis has approved her,  just need to work out a few of the details with Aiden still but it will give an idea of where she's going.

Perséfone Santos
Character Name: Perséfone Santos
Age:
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Occupation: Socialite | Family Assassin
Place of Birth:
Religion: Follower of Death

Physical Appearance: At only 5'2, Perséfone is a petite, delicate looking beauty. Her mane of mahogany waves fall around, what appears to be, a sweetly tempered face that often seems ready to smile but that can become serious or downright predatory in the space of a heartbeat - but few ever see that expression. What people see is what she wants them to see: the well dressed, curvaceous, little sister of Cesar Santos.

Personality: Outwardly, Perséfone projects an aura of kindness, intelligence, mild arrogance, and a willingness to smile, laugh, and entertain her brother's business and personal allies. What people from outside the family don't see are the missing pieces of the delicate brunette's soul. The family assassin is a psychopath who is a truly excellent mimic of other people's expectations. In an intimate gathering of family friends she is witty and charming, telling anecdotes and speaking with authority on a variety of subjects. At a party she is all laughs, smiles, dancing, the perfect hostess encouraging people to see things her brother's way. Fooling and manipulating people is the tamest of the games she plays to keep herself amused.

Connection to the Family: Little sister of Cesar Santos | Family Assassin

Background: One might think that the daughter of the Head of La Familia de los Santos would have grown up like a modern day princess of sorts. In the case of Perséfone Santos, they would have been very, very, wrong. As a young child Perséfone's father noticed her acting out, demanding people do what she wanted, seeking to manipulate them in unskilled/childish ways that showed a complete lack of a moral compass; recognizing his daughter for what she was...a budding psychopath...he had decisions to make. He could have sent her away, had her locked up in some sort of gilded cage for the rest of her life and forgotten about her, but her father wasn't one to waste resources that were presented to him and he devised an entirely different plan for his youngest child.

La Orden de la Rosa.

Under the guise of "boarding school" much of Perséfone's young life was spent with the Order. While not officially one of their trainees, they taught her how to mimic others, to blend in, to manipulate, to fool, to engage...and to kill. Unlike their normal trainees, however, Perséfone had a home to return to and she did, often and her father would come and visit her as well to check in on her progress. As she got older and progressed (read became safer to have around "normal" people) she began to spend more and more time back at home, acclimating to her family, the social demands placed upon her as the daughter of that family, and how she would fit into her father's business structure...basically as a pretty bauble in public, and deadly weapon in private.

It is a dichotomy that appeals to Perséfone's deep seated desire to never be bored.

Face claim: Michelle Hayden
On's & Off's: When fully engaged, Perséfone, has very few limits. Absolute off's, however, include permanent marking (unless she's making them for some reason...in which case the recipient may not like them) animals, bathroom play and anyone she's being sent to "take care of" for the family.
