Soldier Girls

Replacements And Recruits Needed

There's a war on. Where is it? We don't care. Why are we fighting? Because we're told to. Who's the enemy? Hell, they're just like us, only on the wrong side. Who says we're on the right side? The generals who tell us where to go and who to kill. We're just infantry. Fighting, killing and dying because we're told to, "Theirs not to reason why, theirs but to do and die".

Oh, there is just one thing about our unit you might want to know: We're all girls.

So, here's the deal: I had this idea a while ago. Tried to run it as a one-on-one game, that seems to have died. Then someone posted an enquiry thread looking for an all-girl sci-fi game. I have serious reservations about "closed environment games" like the crew of a small space ship, but this idea should work just fine...

Setting:

The game is set in the future, on a world very like Earth - it might actually be Earth. The exact location isn't important, nor is the the exact year. Enough to say it's science Fiction.

Mission One is all-but complete. Mission two will be starting soon. The platoon has taken 50% casualties though (as predicted OOC by myself) and needs to be brought back up to strength. Any players joining the game will do so at the start of Mission two, during a brief respite while the platoon recovers and licks it's metaphorical wounds!

Technology:

There is power armour - the above image not withstanding. The armour is capable of changing to several different colours - black, dark green, green and brown cammo, black and white cammo, white, sand, blue, rust, day-glo orange (for SAR), and silver (in case anyone is silly enough to fire a laser beam at you...)

Weapons are projectile throwers still. Seriously, the best defence against a laser is a mirror, and the only defence against a bullet is armour plate, and armour plate thick enough to stop a bullet is heavy and restricts your movement. A hit at close range (about 10m) will penetrate the armour. A hit at longer range (up to about 100m will damage and/or disable armour depending on where it hits. The one totally vulnerable point is the face plate, get hit there enough times and the plate will crack. Get hit there again and it's goodnight Vienna.

Heavy weapons exist, such as rockets and artillery, also rail-guns of various sizes, but all we really need be concerned with is the ammunition that comes out of the ones owned by the other side. The usual mix: High Explosive, for use against soft targets and buildings - Armour will protect you from anything short of a direct hit, but not if several tonnes of concrete land on top of you as a result; Armour Piercing - usually for use against armoured vehicles, will make a serious mess of a trooper in battle armour, but kind-of hard to hit you with; EMP - ElectroMagnetic Pulse weapons are used to cripple the other side's electronics, but use sparingly because they will also cripple your own. Anti-personnel - the sort to be wary of, these shells explode before reaching the target, spraying the area with dozens of smaller armour-piercing warheads - the logical next step up from the canister round!

Communication: Yes this comes under technology, but it exists as a heading in it's own right because of Battlenet®. Battlenet is a hardened distributed secure WiFi network, that is AI controlled, and has a node in every suit of combat armour, every vehicle, every aircraft and yes, even in every smart weapon.

Battlenet is maintained by specially trained techs at the company level, sometimes (but rarely) at platoon level. Battlenet will provide a Heads-Up-Display (HUD) of the know positions of friendly units and known enemy units, will give targeting information to individual weapons interfaced with the suit, will relay information to artillery and air units and smart munitions. It also monitors the lifesigns of every member of a command, and is used to transmit orders down the command structure as well as relay information back up.

The distributed nature of Battlenet means that taking out a single node will not affect anything. Just as if a Colonel is killed, so the Major below her steps into her shoes, the same with Battlenet. This transition is instant and automatic and actually removes the uncertainty from such "battlefield promotions".

Battlenet is vulnerable to EMP weapons, which will cause all electronics in the vicinity to temporarily overload. Hardening and fail-safes prevent permanent damage, but the only way to prevent your suit from being temporarily disabled by an EMP is to turn it off. This renders you blind, deaf, dumb and immobile, but so does the EMP, just for longer!

The Unit:

This is an all female infantry unit. Just regular infantry. Unit designation is 1st Battalion, 435th Mechanised Infantry. There are five companies in the Battalion, plus a HQ company, each company consists of five platoons, one of which is a support platoon with heavier weapons, each infantry platoon consists of three squads, each squad is composed of three fire-teams, and each fire team has three members.

Company level and up need not really concern us, as I doubt we'll get that many players....

As you can see, there are spaces for 35 players including two GMs (including me). I very much doubt I will get that many.

The opening scene:

Okay, this is important, so read it carefully please.

The game will start with the unit already in combat.

There will be no "meet and great" scene, no tense scene with someone playing a harmonica, no witty banter as we ride into battle. We start actually deployed on the front line with incoming fire already coming our way. Got that? Good.

Why, you are probably asking?

Because it means the game will survive those of you who join, post once and never post again.

Casualties:

In war there are always casualties. People die, people are wounded. Now, obviously, people are going to drop out of the game. This goes without saying. I wish it didn't and in an ideal world there would be no drop-outs. But I've grown cynical realistic in this regard. Even your best friends sometimes have too many other commitments in real life and are forced to withdraw from a game.

Any player who drops out, either by informing me of this or by not posting for two weeks (or so) will have their character killed or wounded by enemy (or possibly, friendly) fire.

And yes, this is the reason we are starting with a combat scene. Because I anticipate 50% casualties within the first few weeks of IC posting.

If You Do Not Want Your Character To Die, Don't Drop Out!

Players who fail to post will have their character wounded rather than killed, so they will be able to rejoin at a later date if they wish.

Other than drop-outs, other casualties will be NPCs.

Replacements:

New players can join at any time, by simply moving into the platoon's area and joining the fight... They can have been there all along, or (if the game is well advanced) can actively join the platoon as replacements.

Missions:

All missions will take place within the regiment's designated area of operations. Missions may include, but will not be limited to:

  • Defending a strong point
  • Taking an enemy strong point by direct assault
  • Infiltrating an enemy position at night
  • Crossing a river
  • Taking a bridge
  • Defending a bridge
  • Blowing a bridge
  • Rescuing POWs
  • Escorting a VIP
  • Anything else I can think of
  • Anything suggested by others that I like

There will be "down time", time when the unit is not actually in active combat operations, but can still come under random enemy fire from snipers and/or artillery. This will be the time for characters to get to know each other, get out of the armour and make out. If enough characters survive long enough, I will also consider a period of R&R for the survivors.

If you are interested, please post below. Character sheets and Rules of play will follow if I get enough interest.

Please check out my latest A/A post.

Group Game Checklist

Game:

  • The game will go in Extreme, purely because of the level of violence
  • The game is open to all players, but only female characters please.
  • Game Synopsis: A regular line infantry unit composed exclusively of women, engaged in combat operations
  • Setting: Science Fiction - a world similar to Earth, some time in the future
  • Plot Summary: An all female infantry unit will be involved in futuristic combat operations
  • Character creation info/guidelines will be provided below
  • Required Resources: None
  • Game Pacing: The game will move forward at a rate to be determined by the GMs. Any scenes are apt to be interrupted at any time by orders coming from HQ
  • How much sexual activity is likely to occur: There will be sexual activity but it will be secondary to the military activity and is liable to be interrupted at any time!
  • Post headers will be used, code for them will be supplied
Game Master Info / GM(s) Participation Level (If/where applicable)

  • There will (hopefully) be a Co-GM who will be the Platoon Sergeant.
  • The game will be GM directed, but with sandbox elements. players wishing to go of and "do there own thing" will be shot as deserters
  • Players will be free to fill in the details of the environment, that will be sketched in by the GMs, however if the GMs are specific about somethiong, it will probably be important so please don't change it!
  • Friendly NPCs within the same unit will be largely handled by players, created and/or killed off on the fly. Friendly units external to this platoon will be handled by the Co-GM. Senior officers and enemy forces will be handled by the GM.
  • The GM will control the Platoon Commander, and possibly one other character within the platoon. The Co-GM will control the Platoon Sergeant and possibly one other character within the platoon.
  • The OOC thread will be available for players to discuss the game, speculate about possible missions, make suggestions regarding the game, etc. The thread will also be available for non-game-related chat, but priority must be given to game related discussions
  • Please either post here or in the OOC thread, or send me a PM, if you have a question. I reserve the right to answer public questions privately and private questions publicly if I think the situation warrants it.
  • Any descisions that need taking will be resolved in accordance with my standard rules of play (see below)
  • PVP is allowed, but inadvisable, as you are all supposed to be on the same side and if you star fighting each other that gives the advantage to the Enemy.
Additional:

  • "The Oath of the Drake" is pretty basic stuff and much of it is common sense and common courtesy, but I think we all need reminding of those occasionally.
  • It should go without saying, but Non-Consent applies to the CHARACTER and not the PLAYER. If another player askes you not to do something to their character, please don't do it!
  • Player Participation Expectations: Players are asked to post once a week or state in the OOC thread why they are unable to do so. Players failing to post for two whole weeks will be liable to have their character(s) killes or wounded. Players indicating an intention to leave the game permanently will have their characters killed.
  • New players may join the game at any time. They may simply appear and join the action as if they had been there all along, or, if the game has already been running a while they may "transfer in" from outside the unit.
  • Players may post in whatever writing style they feel most comfortable with.

RULES OF PLAY

These are my standard OOC rules of play for group games. I put them in every group game I run, usually with minor variations to suit the specific setting. I like to think there is nothing draconian or unacceptable here, and I ask all players to read them. Submitting a character sheet to me implies that you have read and are in agreement with these rules.

IF YOU DO NOT AGREE WITH SOMETHING HERE, PLEASE TELL ME!

All rules except two are negotiable!

Fog Of War!

This is a GM directed roleplay with sandbox elements. What that means is that I as GM provide you the players with an environment to have fun in, and will throw a continuous stream of events at you. How you react to those events is up to you. The sandbox elements are that each event woll be a discreet "mission", and within that mission, you are free to create your own stories as long as they fit within the overall game structure.

RULES:

  • The GM's word is law. This does not mean I'm not open to discussion, but if it comes to an impasse, if a decision needs to be made, or a discussion is getting out of bounds, I will render a decision that I expect to be abided by. I will do this based upon context.
  • Respect other players ons and more importantly, their offs! This is NOT negotiable. Ons and offs are there for a reason. If you feel someone has broken this rule, please PM them first to talk about it. If they will not change their post, then contact me via PM and I will deal with it. Please note that persistently ignoring another players O/Os is grounds for reporting to staff!
  • Try to post at least once a week. If you know you will be unable to post for a while please let us know in advance in the OOC. it is a good idea to create an Apologies/Absences (A/A) thread so everyone you are RPing with knows where you've gone. Players who fail to post for a considerable length of time will have their characters removed by enemy action,
  • If you know you are going to be away for a considerable time (more than a week) please bring any story-arcs you are involved in to a conclusion , or extract your character from them. If you inform me you will be away, I will not kill off your character!
  • If you find your character is sitting around doing nothing, post something to the OOC, or PM me. If you wait for someone to interact with you, you will wait a long time. Let me know and I will create an event for you.
  • If you have any questions about anything in the game, ASK! The only stupid questions are "how many beans make five" and ones that aren't asked!
  • The OOC-Chat thread will be for people to chat. I have no problems with you guys discussing the latest football results if you wish, (although I'd rather you didn't), because it means you are getting on as a group. Use that thread as you see fit, but please give priority to game related discussion.
  • Please tag all IC posts using the code that will be supplied, editing the details as appropriate. This will enable other players and myself to track where everyone is.
  • There is no rule 9.
  • Players who drop out of the game will have their character removed by enemy fire. If this is unacceptable to you, don't drop out of the game.
  • Please try to post a minimum of 200 words per post. If you post short once in a while, that isn't going to be a problem, but doing so consistently will draw my attention and I will ask you to expand your posts. If the player you are responding to has not given you enough material to write a decent length post from, PM them and ask them to expand their post.
  • God-Moding is a big no-no, but in a n/c game a certain amount of "moving the story on" needs to be expected. If you feel you have been god-moded, talk it over by PM, and if you cannot reach a satisfactory solution, bring it to me or the other GM. Please note that Auto-hitting on Enemy NPCs is not allowed any more than it would be on a player character!
  • Actions have consequences! If your post has been replied to, it has become canon. Please do not edit it without permission.
  • HAVE FUN! This too is non-negotiable. If you aren't having fun, I would like to know why, so I can change whatever it is that is stopping you having fun!

Please check out my latest A/A post.

#3
Character Creation

These are the rules for character creation. Submission of a character sheet implies you have read the rules above, and these rules and are in agreement with them.

Please PM all character sheets to Chrystal and Lynnette. Do not post them here.

A maximum of two characters per player, excluding NPCs.

All characters must be female. Players may be of whatever gender you happen to be, but characters are all female.

I will fill each fire-team in sequence, and each squad in sequence. The NCO roles are first come first served. But until I have two privates, I will not accept a second PFC, and until I have six privates and three PFCs I will not accept a second sergeant or corporal.

I will give preference to lower ranks anyway. I would rather have eleven privates than have a full squad. We can always have NPC NCOs, and if your character survives an engagement they might just end up being promoted.

I reserve the right to reject any character without giving a reason. However, I will usually try to give a reason, and further I will usually suggest ways in which the character may be made acceptable.

Possible reasons for characters being rejected:

  • Non female and/or non-human characters
  • Over-powered characters
  • Mary-Sue characters
  • Unrealistically proportioned characters
  • Characters that don't fit the overall scenario
  • Characters that are clearly designed to disrupt
  • Incomplete, modified or incorrectly filled in character sheets

Notes

Image: Please use a photograph rather than artwork. The picture does not have to be in uniform and in fact would be better not. I also suggest saving the image to an image repository such as photobucket, or better yet, the wiki on this site, as this way you will not loose it if the original owner takes it down or blocks hotlinking. Please also create a face-only shot of the character for use in post headers.

Player ID: Your Login ID. For some reason, some people do have difficulty with this! It is the name that appears next to all your posts, above the badge saying if you are a lord, lady or liege.

Name: The name of your character. NOT your name. I will reject characters that have the same name as the player!

Age: Age is directly linked to rank which is linked to length of service. Officers start as cadets, then second lieutenants, then lieutenants. My character is going to be the only officer! Other ranks start as recruits, then privates, then work up through the ranks. Some get a field commission, others reach the exalted heights of Warrant Officer. Please see the list below for character age ranges.

Rank: Okay...... First of all, I am going to be Bitchy GM Cow here. This is my game and my rules. And quite frankly, trying to determine what the actual rank structure of an existing army is leaves me baffled. Not withstanding the fact that in the British army a PFC is called a Lance Corporal, in the Royal; Artillery a private is a Gunnar and a Lance Corporal is a Bombardier! In the cavalry, a private is a trooper; and then you have the whole "Specialist" miasma!

So I am simplifying things. You may choose from the list of ranks below, and your character's age should be within the bracket specified.

RankMin AgeMax Age
Private
18
25
PFC
20
27
Corporal
21
28
Sergeant
23
30
First Sergeant
25
32

Note that there is only one first sergeant and that is Reaper's character

Sexuality: Your character can be a lesbian if you wish. Or she can be as straight as a Vicar's wife! The emphasis of the game is on the adventure and the combat, not the sex. If you want your character to be celibate, then all other players will respect this! Please note, however, that character consent and player consent are two different things. What you wan needs to be specified in the O/O section of the character sheet. You can also say whether she is Domme or Sub, Top or Bottom, Butch or Femme.

Height: Minimum is 167 cm. No maximum, but be realistic please.

Weight: Maximum is 110 kg, Min is 50 kg. This chart is useful.

Appearance: A written summary of what is in the image is always good, but anything like tattoos, piercings, scars etc should be detailed here. Also if the eye colour, hair colour or build are not obvious please state them here.

Skills: These will determine the squad assignments of the characters.

Weaknesses: If you say "nothing", your character will be rejected out of hand!

Likes: Please list at least five likes.

Dislikes: Please list at least five dislikes.

Personality: A "decent size" paragraph would be about the same as I have written under "Sexuality", above.

Player Ons and Offs: This is mandatory. Saying to me that you are "up for anything" is not good enough. Everyone has a limit, and if you have stated you are "up for anything", and someone reaches your limit, that is a recipe for disaster.

Face Claim: If you know the name of the person who's photo you are using, please say who it is so I can make sure we don't get duplicates, unless anyone is planning on making sisters!

Other: No one is perfect, least of all me, so if there is anything else you want to include, please put it here.

Please note that I have deliberately excluded the history/back-story and service record, for a number of reasons: Firstly, unless I give a detailed history and location of the war, you aren't going to have anything to base it on. Secondly, even if I do that, I know for a fact that at least half the back-stories will be incompatible with the other half, and two-thirds will have some element that jars with what I have detailed. So, let's just leave that aside.

ALL CHARACTER SHEETS ARE TO BE PMED TO THE GMS FOR APPROVAL.

One of us will post them to the approved characters thread. Thanks,

Please check out my latest A/A post.

Technology

Power Armour:

All troopers in line infantry units are equipped with the same power armour. The suit is highly sophisticated and is powered by a power cell on the back of the suit. Details of this are classified need to know.

The suits come in one basic size that can be adjusted to fit most body shapes. However, if the wearer is too thin, the suit's minimum contraction will be reached and the suits sensors will no longer have a connection to the wearer's skin. If the wearer is too fat, the suit will extend beyond it's maximum safe expansion and the armour plates will no longer offer adequate protection. The same applies if the wearer is too tall. If the wearer is too short, the joint plates get too close together and restrict the suits mobility.

Each suit is capable of interfacing directly with a number of weapon systems including the standard Assault Rifle, Squad Rail Gun, and standard side arm. Data from the weapon is fed directly to the wearer's HUD, including the exact aim-point, the current load status and number of rounds remaining. The suit has built in Infrared and radar targeting systems. Active emission is possible but not recommended for use under normal conditions. Passive detection only will generally enable targeting of any target that is emitting heat or radar.

The suites are equipped with a limited Battlenet® node. This suit continuously monitors the status of the wearer and transmits this status via Battlenet up the chain of command. This data is then relayed back down so that every member of a unit can see the status and (overlaid on a map of the immediate area) locations of all friendly units. Also on the same map, Battlenet will display the last known locations of enemy units, extrapolated from incoming fire data, actual sightings and contact reports from all; friendly units. It will also overlay probability data regarding assumed locations of unknown enemy units, and display real-time updates to commanders regarding battle plans that have been entered into it.

NOTE: While Battlenet is secure and encripted, it is known that the enemy have their own version. In the event of capture or death, a suit's Battlenet node will wipe itself clean automatically.

Each suit is capable of taking on a number of colours, besides the neutral blue-gray.

  • Black: used for night and EVA operations
  • Green: used for rural operations
  • Green-brown camouflage: used for jungle operations
  • Sand: used for dessert operations
  • Black and white camouflage: used for urban operations
  • White: used for snowfield operations
  • Blue: used for waterborne operations
  • Day-Glow Orange: used for Search And Rescue
  • Blue-grey Metalic: used for ship-board operations
  • Rust: used for industrial plant operations

Note that the colours are selected by the wearer for the suit as a whole.

The armour is powered, and as well as affording limited protection from projectiles and blasts, it also provides protection from excessive heat and cold. The air filters will exclude harmful chemicals and pathogens, and it provides some protection against radiation. In addition, the suit has a limited self contained air supply and can be used in hostile environments such as unbreathable atmosphere, vacuum or under water for limited periods.

The power servos in all joints will respond to normal muscle movements of the wearer, and will assist the wearer's movements. The suit has several settings:

  • Lock - used to remain immobile for an indefinite period. The suit will remain rigid in whatever position it is in.
  • Standard - Movements will be assisted to compensate for the weight of the armour only.
  • Enhance x 2 - Any movement is doubled in power.
  • Enhance x 3 - Any movement is trippled in power - use with caution
  • Enhance x 4 - movements are quadrupled in power - emergency use only

The reason for the restrictions on E3 and E4 settings should be obvious, but I will state them anyway: If you normally run at 20kph (12mph), E4 is going to make you run at 80kph (48mph). The average human running stride is about 150 cm. Do the maths: that comes out at about 15 strides every second! so each leg moves forward and back seven times. Can you move your legs that fast? Set the suit running in E4 mode and  you are likely to end up in hospital!

The suit responds to voice commands as well as thought commands transmitted via a microchip implanted at the back of the wearer's neck that plugs directly into the suit, players need not generally worry about these as it can be assumed that they are fully trained in the suit's basic operation and field maintenance.

Weapons

Every soldier is issued with a standard Hamp K Assault Rifle. This is optionally available to officers up to Major.

The rifle has a clip of 20 solid tip high velocity 6.50x50mm bullets, designed to penetrate enemy power armour. It has a built in optical sight that feeds directly to the suit's HUD via a connection on the hand-grip and glove. This enables the user to "fire blind" around an obstruction, and to use the rifle's pick-up as a periscope.

It can, optionally, be fitted with a laser sight for greater accuracy, and a grenade launcher. The combat knife that is integral to the combat suit can be fitted as a bayonet into the socket beneath the barrel, so long as the grenade launcher is not fitted.

The rifle will fire single shot, three-round burst and full auto. Automatic safety means that the weapon will safe itself when disconnected from the combat suit interface, safety can be turned on and must be released manually by command transmitted via the suit.

Officers and NCOs are issued with a standard side-arm. This is optionally available for enlisted ranks below Sergeant.

The Glock 32 is a .45 calibre automatic pistol. The clip in the pistol grip holds 12 rounds of .45 GAP, which has not changed in centuries! (If it works, don't fix it). The pistol is equipped with a suit interface and optical pick-up, and can fire single shot or full auto. Automatic safety means that the weapon will safe itself when disconnected from the combat suit interface, safety can be turned on and must be released manually by command transmitted via the suit.

Heavy Weapons:

In place of the light machine gun (M249 Squad Automatic Weapon), we now have the S.G.W, or Squad Gauss Weapon. This is a man-pprtable rail gun, that is capable of sustained fire at a rate of five rounds per second.

The ammunition is iron banded tungsten .50 calibre by 75mm armour piercing. The magazine holds 50 rounds or the weapon can be adapted to use a continuous belt feed. Operators must carry the weapon's power supply as a back-pack. This power cell will allow up to one hour continuous fire on full automatic.

And how would you feel about either a Demolitions expert... or an expert in knowing how to block an enemy's path... or a mixture of both but not truly an expert at both tasks, such as like a "Combat Engineer" ?
Can you capture this fiery Angel and make her yours?!  Try before she slips away into the night... If you wish.

Well I'm definitely interested, though since someone else wants demolition expert I guess my interest lies in being the support, I do so love machine guns!

So, Chrystal is going to be out of town for roughly a week, so she asked me if I could handle incoming questions etc. Which I'll do to the best of my ability. Take it with a grain of salt though, since I don't know exactly what Chrystal has in mind regarding everything, so I'll just answer backing myself up with logic. So yeah, you have been warned! :)

How do you feel about snipers?

I don't see any problem with it. Considering the tags Chrys set up for the game, it's fair to presume that the communication technology is good enough for it to break away the possible communication-barrier.

Well, it would likely have to be more of a secondary job. You don't need someone who can blow up a bridge 24/7, and for your own sake, to avoid ending up just kicking rocks at the camp all day while waiting for your time to shine, I'd definitely suggest making it more of a specialization with an underlying skill with per say assault rifle, to the point of which it's at the "not useless but not perfect" to make the demolition skills more prominent when the time to shine comes.

Just as an extra notion though, I'd recommend against people making extremely specialized characters. It goes back to the fact that if someone dies, someone else needs to be able to finish the job. you can't just pack your bags and go "Well, going home then" if per say a bomberman gets shot while working. I wouldn't take it too official though since this is fiction, but it's something to keep in the back of your mind.

Changed my mind, back to the drawing board...

All I know is "Private", probably one that shoots... guns... at enemies...

Progress!

What's the policy on character images?

Do you want photos only?

Or do you want art only?

Or are photos and art both okay?

I'd prefer photos-only, then art-only.  This is for the sake of consistency.  I think that allowing both kinds of images to take away from the feel of the game.

Thanks.

Yeah, well I imagine there would still be a way to finish a job, like if a bridge supposed to be blown and the person setting the bomb dies, someone else would probably know how to set the bomb or have another bomb in case the first one is destroyed or taken.

I agree that it should be consistently one type, but I'd rather refrain from answering till Chrys is back since she never set a specific.

Yeah, that's my point. Sure, you probably have someone who's a bit better at it, but in the end, it's extremely rare practice that only one person knows how to do something.

Not a player in this game, but I'm following it and badly-portrayed military characters are my number one pet peeve, so some info re: military structure

Generally, every soldier is a rifleman first and foremost. All of them would meet a basic proficiency as riflemen in addition to their own MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) and probably be cross-trained in every other conceivable job in their unit.

Nobody is immune to engaging in direct combat save for Chaplains, though high-ranking officers tend not to see action unless things are going very badly.

Another key thing: No matter what Hollywood may have you believe, medics do not administer medical attention while their unit is actively engaged with an enemy. They return fire until the threat is suppressed, then administer triage after there's no one left trying to kill them.

Eternaldarkness, you have my open invitation to point things out and give constructive criticism.  That's the best way that I learn.
It's all good, and it's all in fun.  Now get in the pit and try to love someone.

Okay, this is from my phone. I'm not able to quote so please bare with me. Snipers are specialists, one per platoon. I had forgotten to include for one. But the sniper will have a standard small arm as well as a sniper rifle. Not every mission will require a sniper.

Demolition is an even more specialised role which is carried out by combat engineers. We are infantry. This doesn't mean you won't get to blow stuff up, just that you don't get to specialise in doing so.

Pictures will probably be photos rather than art work. I will make that decision when I get home. Pictures will not need to be in uniform and in fact would be better out of it. I will use art work to show the sort of battle armour I intend to use.

The more privates the better, by the way.

Darkness, thanks for leaving your knowledge here. Of course it's understandable if you're serving/have served, that bad portrayals can be annoying to look at, but for a situation like this, it's just fiction. I was in the Norwegian military for about three months myself, so I do notice things every now and then as well, but it usually doesn't lead to anything good to bring it up. Fiction will be fiction. I don't blame my favorite authors if they fuck up a description of something I'm knowledgeable about, I just accept that they probably don't have the same level of knowledge in the field. Suspension of disbelief is vital.

@Eternaldarkness: while I appreciate that you are trying to help, and your comments thus far have been positive (and more to the point, I agree with you), please could you refrain from further input unless you intend to take part in the game? I don't mean to be ungrateful or anything, but this is a work of fiction and while I value realism, some artistic licence is always needed. Most people here (including me) have no military experience and this is for fun, after all.

While I value your opinion, I would rather only people who are intending to participate actually contributed.

If individual players wish to consult with you about their characters I have no objection, but I would prefer it if this could be via PM.

Thanks.
