BACKGROUND: Quinn is an only child, born to her two very practical parents with very middle-class jobs. Some might say she is nothing extraordinary, and in fact, is rather average. This would not be too far off. Aside from her amateur artistic talents, there isn't much that sets Quinn apart from the crowd. That, coupled with her sometimes introverted ways make for a particularly unimpressive social life, unless tutoring counts as social interaction.

Her grades are not the best; she is not a genius and she is not in any AP courses. However, she has always earned the privilege of being able to tutor others based upon her academics. Anything involving English, writing, reading and literature would be considered her favorite subjects. Yet, classes like science and math are more of a struggle; though she manages to maintain good grades in them, she simply has to work harder in those subjects. This might just be because she is more creatively minded and less analytical. Not the most athletic, she avoids sports as often as possible, though she is slightly envious of the camaraderie and friendships that tend to flourish from being in such activities. Thankfully, gym class is no longer a required course, like it was in high school.

Often she wonders if her talent is good enough to pursue in college and beyond, as a career. It is a very competitive field, and always has been. In high school, she had a few of her art pieces entered into art shows and one that even made it into a gallery for a high school exhibit. But, even then, seeing her artwork beside other, equally if not more talented students artwork, made Quinn question her aspirations of taking her passion for art and turning it into a field of study, and eventually a career. Her mother was always trying to persuade Quinn to do something practical, like pursue a business degree or a degree in communications. However, her father knew how much her dream meant to her and quietly encouraged her to chase her dreams and make them a reality.

Ellie was a bit of an odd duck in high school and only towards the end of it did she start figuring out who she was. Or what she thought she was. Or what everyone thought she should be. Okay, she still doesn't really know who she is and it shows in her flighty disposition. She can love something passionately one moment and quickly move on to something else another. That doesn't exactly go for boys, thankfully. She's never attached herself to one guy for very long but not because she has found someone better. Her attention span for people that vie for her affection is rather short and she has never liked anyone enough to disappoint them or be disappointed by them.

While struggling to make a true personal connection with anyone of the opposite sex her age, Ellie has been able to work past it all when it comes to teammates on her soccer teams. She's never put in a conscious effort to be extra friendly or put aside differences for the good of the team, yet it always seems to work out. As time went on and the prospect of getting into college with some sort of sports scholarship was a real possibility, Ellie's mild alternative ways quietly vanished as she moved towards fitness and being a functional adult. The awkward never-quite-a-punk phase did its damage, however, and it wasn't until her final year of high school that she learned of the prizes of being a girly-girl.

Being accepted into Raft College was, quite possibly, the best thing that had happened to Ellie. As far as Ellie was concerned, anyway. She felt like she finally found a niche for herself in being one of those sporty girls that talk about work out regimes, diets, and get sponsored by clothing brands you've never heard of. So much so that she actually did start doing all of that. It was fun in the beginning. She gained a small following and got a few free backpacks and bikinis to model, though once she stepped onto campus and the idea of having to continue 'always being on' dawned on her, Ellie started to hate the notion. Impeccable timing.

BACKGROUND:
Sacha spent the majority of his time growing up in Shisselberg at the Nevsky Shipyard except at that time his proper name was Luka.  He spent a great deal of time exposed to sailors, dock workers and less savoury elements of the Shisselberg community.  His father was a violent sort but thankfully rarely around and his mother while friendly was drunk often and prone to seeking the company of any man that would come over with a couple bottles of Volk.

When the weather was too inhospitable (which was often), Luka would find himself in one of the offices at the shipyard.  None of the men there could be called wizards when it came to technology so by the time Sacha was thirteen, aside from knowing multiple ways to swear, insult and different ways to refer to a woman's genitalia; Sacha got quite good with computers.

He spent hours...days...and weeks watching North American youtube and online television services through creative uses of proxy servers.  There was also the added bonus that he was legitimately making the Nevsky Shipyards run more efficiently and turn a profit, which in turn caught the eye of local members of the community that had an interest in shipping all manner of things into and out of the country.

By the time Luka was sixteen he was "the tech guy" for a reasonably effective; if a bit small, criminal organization and had made enough money for himself that he was able to charter himself a flight out of Russia and settle in New York. 

Luka was living the dream as far as he was concerned.  Living off of the money he had ferreted away in various undisclosed bank accounts as well as through the judicious application of a reasonable BitCoin fortune that he had amassed.  School could not have been further from his mind.  He was applying his generous intellect to learning the english language fully and from time to time helping his "friends from the old country" make some beneficial shipping arrangements here and there which would in turn generate a modest and steady income for him.

Right up until when the F.B.I. knocked on the door of his penthouse.

Things got decidedly more stressful for Sacha.

In time Luka turned over a great deal of information and evidence over to the F.B.I. which lead them to the criminal organization in Shisselberg, which in turn lead to Moscow...and invariably came back to Russian based organized crime and cyber-terrorism based out of New York.

On Luka's seventeenth birthday he was living in a small town in Alabama under witness protection.  He was no longer Luka Bobrov and was now Sacha Voronin.  The guy that put groceries in your bag at the local grocery store.  For a while...even that was fun.  Small town America high school girls with limited options could be a significant amount of entertainment but even that grew stale after a while.

It took some time to get it all set up and while Raft College had not been his first...or second pick, Sacha got accepted into the computer science program at Raft in Boston.  He's back to living the dream of sorts and is very much looking forward to legitimizing himself in America...well...more having a really great time in America first...legitimizing second.

LANGUAGE(S) SPOKEN: Russian - Sacha can speak perfect English, he chooses not to for reasons explained below.

Sacha isn't necessarily who he says he is.  He's not pretending to be something he's not from a personality perspective but he IS living in America now with a different name because Russian organized crime will indeed kill him dead if they find out where he is.

• Sacha doesn't really take much too seriously.  Being incredibly intelligent as well as incredibly lazy allows him to avoid worrying about much of anything right up until he absolutely, positively has to...and even then...caring might come a bit later than it should have.


• Sacha isn't exactly into permanent or even semi-permanent relationships


• While he can speak perfect English, Sacha chooses to speak with a somewhat cartoonish Russian accent because he finds it gets him laid more.   Like... a lot more.

I've been giving this some thought.  As much as I want to join, I don't think I should yet.  I have a few stories in discussion that I haven't even started yet.  I might lurk every once in a while.  I'll revisit the idea of joining in a month or two when things are less busy.
