Deamonbane

#1
Name:
Dathlorien Kaxlytheri

Age
237

Appearance:
Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide

Personality:
A Prince of the White Elves, and their name belies their true nature. Bloodthirsty, having given up the crafting of beautiful things long ago in favor of clever items of warfare and destruction.

Bio:
As a youth, Kax, for that was how he was called, was given over in training to a War Master of his kind. Being a Prince, he was always expected to go above and beyond anything any other students had gone through, and come out on top. When he wasn't he was severely beaten. Being the son of the head of the clan did not provide him any benefits, and indeed added much more hardship to his life. He went through it without a word of complaint, easily surpassing any marks that any students alongside him held, and he became the pride of his father. When the war broke out between them and the Tree elves, Kax was naturally expected to be at the front lines of every engagement that he possibly could, and he was, his Silver Lance becoming the bane of his enemies and that of the White Elves. Bloodthirsty, vicious, and extremely violent, he very hotly disagreed to the peace in which the two kingdoms were now negotiating, and the news that he would be married to one of them only served to incense his anger ever more hotly.

Name: Anira Filidhrentithiel Solorfainiel
Age: 200 (20 in human years)

Appearance:

Personality: Anira is in many ways the idealized Ash Tree Elf, gentle, loving, artistic and attached to nature. In other ways she can be harsh, with a sharp with and specific opinions.

Bio: Anira is the eldest daughter of the Solorfainiel family, rulers of the Ash Tree Elfs that reside deep in the Spring Woods. She was long awaited for, thus her first name meaning desired, and once born she was much celebrated among the artistic and magic based elvish society. It was not long after her birth that the Ash Tree Elve’s relationships with their violent neighbors began to fall apart, soon devolving into war. As Anira came of age it became clear both sides  were tired of war and suddenly it was suggested a marriage cement a truce. She was distraught but agreed in order to stop  the deaths that had only been increasing.

Yzza

Anira was sitting in her borrowed room in a rough castle made of rough cut stone pilled only a hundred or so years ago. It was a human castle and so far different than the building she was used to at home, pearlized wood seeming carved from a single stump with great spires and bridges spanning a collection of rivers and ponds. It was a home she would miss dearly now that she was to be leaving forever, traveling across the human land to enter White Elf territory as a bride.  The basis of the treaty her father and the White Elf King had made was not something she would have chosen for herself but it was not something she could refuse. The Tree Elves had  been at war for hundreds of years,  longer than any human kingdom had been around, and while they had not lost any ground and little resources it was clear by now that the war would gain nothing for either kingdom. The White Elves were fantastic fighters, as  good with a blade as they were with tactics, but the Ash Tree Elves were protected by deep magic and a connection with the forest in which they lived and the White Elves had found it impossible to march on very far. This mixed with the guerilla tactics used by the tribalized Jungle Elves who had joined the kingdom a century earlier had created a war where chaos reigned and no one got anywhere. Even the White Elf King had to admit the war was useless; Anira imagined he  simply had decided to try his luck elsewhere.

The human land, going by a name she didn’t remember, had agreed to act as a neutral ground for the two elvish clans to meet. It was rather useful as they both needed somewhere to go and despite  her knowledge that the human’s acted only out of selfishness, wanting good relations, she still appreciated it. On human land she could be with her family, specifically her grandfather whom she adored more than anyone. He was an old Jungle Elf Chief, his skin a dark brown and his hair cut short  as many of them did. While her mother had looked decidedly more Ash Tree Elf Anira had taken some of her grandfather’s traits, lavender eyes and soft brown hair,  and had a skin tone unique to both, being slightly tanned yet almost luminescent like her father’s.  She was unique for sure but now it seemed as if her beauty was going to come back to bite her. Anira…desired. Damn. She turned as a knock came, a servant opening the door to allow Vasile, her grandfather in.

“Grandfather.” Anira smiled and stood, moving over to wrap her arms about the man’s neck.

“Filidhrentithiel.” He hugged her back, using the name he had given her when she was young meaning ‘little wise bird.’ She had been a small child and  even now she stood at only 5 feet, several inches shorter than almost all other  Ash Tree Elves, with  a delicate seeming frame. It was hard to imagine how good she was with a bow and climbing but sometimes smaller women were better. “They are about to arrive.” He spoke softly but Anira felt herself freeze anyway; she had not expected them till later. “You should change as I don’t imagine they will want to chat much…business like I hear.”

“Yes grandfather.”

The White Elves had once been a great race. Works of art, both in iron, gold, steel and wood were common among them at the time. Anything that they set their minds to do flourished. Time passed and they eventually became one of the greatest civilizations ever known to the world. They had awesome armies, great fleets of ships for both the trading of goods and the defense of their borders. Unified under one king they had been at that time, and the great city of Arthuniel, with it's black walls of enchanted rock, high towers, and strong keeps had been a wonder without peer in the known world. Kings and lords from the outside felt like beggars and paupers when they steeped under the might gates, made of oak, reinforced by steel and bronze, spells of protection and power cast over it. Poverty was virtually nonexistent inside the walls, and all the men, women, and even children were known to be happily occupied in their many tasks in keeping the colorful city flourishing. But something changed in their nature. Happiness was replaced by greed, and the want for more. A new, younger king came to power, and he immediately turned forces that had originally been designed to maintain peace and order in the land towards looking outwards, into the untamed lands on their borders.

And as happens to all things greedy, the change was not for the good. It was subtle at first, and it took many lives of men, and even elves, to finally notice what had happened. Division and malcontent had seeped into the lands of the White Elves, and they engaged in a bloody and dreadful civil war, that spanned over a thousand years. Arthuniel was at the center of this conflict, and over the long years of bloody conflict had become nothing more than a ruined city, fulled of ghosts, memories, and legend told of gold beyond belief hidden somewhere. But nothing of the sort could be found, and it would take a bold adventurer indeed to brave the lands, ravaged by war, and try to find treasure in the haunted place. It had been named Murgoluther, Land of the dead, by the time that the war was over. By then, the once great civilization had been torn to many pieces, and the remnants, now tribes, struggled to make an existence. They had long forgotten the crafts of their fathers, and turned their expertise and cunning towards the making of weapons, and the developing of  war-magicks and machines and engines of like purpose.

Kax himself was of the old line of kings. It was well proven, although, without might of arms it meant less than nothing. But he had might of arms. His father did, anyway, even though he had proven time and time again that he was more than capable of fielding, feeding, and fighting his own forces. Not very into the magic, he turned himself towards the art of combat, and was virtually unbeatable in th field, with any weapon. The blood of kings ran true in him, he was told. His father had managed, somehow, to reunite all of the tribes of the White Elves, and they had formed a fighting force immense strength. Warring with their Sylvan kin had only been logical. Despite the way that the war had gone, his power only seemed to grown, and he had even begun rebuilding the ruins of the the great city, although it was a work to last many lifetimes to complete it, and restoring it to it's former glory was hardly to be expected.

So Kax was surprised and angry when his father told him that peace negotiations had been initiated. The details of the truce had not been told to him, and, in his opinion, they could be shoved into a dark hole, or burned. If he was to take up his father's place as ruler, he would disregard any peace truce, and kill all that stood in his path. Of course, he wasn't leader yet. His pointed ear still burned with anger as they rode their troops of horsemen, with himself and his father at the fore, to finalize the peace treaty.

"The castle is three leagues distant, sire," One of the scouts reported. The king told his men to take their horses ahead, as he wished to have a few words with his son.

"Do you comprehend why we are making peace, my son?" He asked in a deep voice.

"No," Was the simple answer, with more anger and fire in it than any spell.

"You will, my son. You will."

Anira fiddled as her grandfather left, watching as a servant girl pulled out her dress and set it on the bed. Once the treaty had been arranged her father had set about getting ready all the things Anira would need, particularly clothes. She was to be a crown princess and he had obviously wanted her to be dressed like it. “Your majesty?” Anira’s mind had wandered off and as the girl spoke she shook her head clear, turning with a weak smile and removing her clothes to replace them. The underdress was a soft white silk, loose sleeves and a fitted around the bust, the overdress was rather beautiful, made of a soft green linen with silver embroidery. It was fit to her chest and waist perfectly, showing off her small but fit figure. The arms were tight to the elbow, so as to see her muscle move a bit, and became loose to form an almost sake like drape of fabric in which her arm could almost hide in, with only a slit in the front from which she would move. She looked lovely, the dress matched by her delicate silver crown and her hair left loose and smooth, but she couldn’t help but wonder what the White Elf Prince would think. They were bound to have a different styles.

Down stairs her father, King Almirtic, was waiting in contemplation. He had been surprised at the White Elf King’s easy agreement to the truce, having expected a firm refusal, so now that it was about to take place he thought he had puzzled it out. The White Elves had been a great civilization once, greater than them by far, but had fallen apart and caused sorrow among all elven peoples. To see such beauty ruined was a heartbreaking thing so when Almirtic had heard of how they hoped to rebuild the city he was ecstatic…if doubtful. They had long ago lost their touch with nature and magic, having thrown it away to focus on war, and their people needed that to be great once more. Anira was the link, thus why Almirtic had offered her, but their sudden acceptance made him wonder now if that wasn’t the whole point of the war to begin with.

Of course the reason behind why they were there was besides the point as what was most important now was how to move forward. He knew the White Elves were very physical, interested in fighting ability and fitness. Anira was strong and almost untouchable with a bow but she was small, even for their standards, and he did not want her to seem fragile to her new family. The clothing he had made for was similar to the fashion of their home but was different in small ways, fit or cut to reveal more than just her size. As a servant informed him their new ‘allies’ were arriving the king stood and made his way outside with the human king and several guards. As the riders came in Almirtic stood back, letting the human king do to greetings as it was his home after all. As the White Elf King came riding in the human smiled and stepped forward and greeted him.

“Most warm welcome good elves.” The human smiled wide behind his bushy beard and fur mantle. “Please come inside. We have food and drink ready for you.”

The horses arrived. about two dozen of the escorting party arrived before the king and his son. Despite the fighting prowess of both the elves, they traveled with an escort because, while the king was a good ruler, as rulers came, there were those that were greedy for the crown of the white elves. And wouldn't be adverse to taking it through brute force, and, facing the facts, White Elves respected brute force greatly. They would accept any king that could remove the previous one, as well as his son, in one stroke. Dathlorien Hathiisan, Kax's father, had learned this lesson the hard way when he was ambushed by men of a rather powerful tribe, and had never trusted in teh good will of his people again. Being king was all about cunning, strength, and power, and if he lost even a fraction of that which he held, doubt would seep in, and it wouldn't be long before he was removed, forcibly, and killed, along with his family. Which was why he intended to remove himself from kingship soon, and allow his son, a brutal man, to take his place.

They hooves of the shod horses clattered on the cobbles of the street that led up to the fortress, and the peasants, trudging about in their daily work, looked up in awe at the might, beautiful, and terrifying men that rode past. All clad in silver-black armor, that seemed to mix in with the with their surroundings. Made from the special smiths, and very useful when the user did not want to be seen. Their helmets were at their sides, and a diverse selection of blades, axes, and magic staves, and they rode by without even giving the humans a glance. White elves were an arrogant folk, after all. When they finally arrived, the two royal elves had caught up with the rest, and they arrived together. There was a reason, after all, why they had selected this place. Humans, once their peace with the Sylvan Elves was completed, were their next war interest, if civil war didn't suddenly erupt, that is, and the studying of fortresses was a good start. Secrets gleaned might prove useful indeed.

The human king stepped out, and Hath descended from his mount. His own armor was similar in look to that of his escort except for a round crown that had been crafted to fit into his helmet when he wore it. For now, it rested on his head of silvery white hair," I thank you, my lord," He bowed slightly," For receiving us in your most hospitable abode. May the stars shine on your house and family," It was the ancient, more civil greeting of the White Elves. Kax, and almost precise replica of his father stood in the background sullenly, and he did not bow, and followed silently after his father into the castle, after telling the men to care for the horses before they were shown to their chambers.

Anira had dressed just in time to hear the horses arrive and moved to the window. There were a great many guards dressed in fine armor but she had expected no less. As the king  dismounted and moved to the human monarch Anira’s eyes shifted to see the prince step up behind him. He was larger than the others but just as pale, a mat harsh paleness that made him stick out from all others. She wondered how big he would be in person, as compared to her. She was small for her people but she knew her people to be slightly  larger than the White Elves but seeing the height difference between the prince and his father she doubted it would feel much different. As they all headed inside Anira assumed they would be taken to rooms where they would change and return so as to finalize the treaty. She would need to be present for that so while she had a chance she wished to get some air; the human castles where so restricting.

Anira had soon made her way through the castle and outside to the small garden in the back, followed by several guards of course. The garden was rather large by  human standards but Anira had been raised with access to a whole forest and could not help but see this as a bit sad. As she walked forward she found a bench set under a tree and surrounded by rose bushes. Before their arrival the garden had been sad looking, so she had been told, with the turn of season sending all the plants into hibernation but now the trees and flowers were in bloom, much to the happiness of the human Queen. As Anira sat the rose bushes bloomed even more as the tree became bright green once more and itself bloomed small white flowers. She wondered if she would be free to roam the forest once she arrived to the White Elf Castle but knew it would be unlikely; then again she would like to see them stop her, she was very quiet when she needed to be.

Kax and his father moved into the halls of the palace. A young place this was, for the elves, anyway. The stones barely telling of a couple centuries in this place, but they had been well laid. Humans excelled with works of stone, and while not quite as cunning with spells as the elven-kind, they made up for it with cunning defenses, and well laid plans. If the White Elves ever went to war with the humans of this kingdom, they would have to prepare accordingly. They had all the time in the world, of course, and Hath was loth to begin another bloody conflict. His people had seen enough bloodshed in his time, in his opinion, and so long as he was king, he wouldn't risk open war again. His son, he knew, was a different matter. Kax was a brooding youth, born into war, and seeming to be lost when he wasn't surrounded by enemies, his blades flashing, felling as many as his eyes could catch. He had actually been called a Sylvan-bane once, and wherever he went, his enemies were afraid to follow. He didn't mind. He was blood-thirsty, cunning, and vicious. Not a man to desire for an enemy, although a worthy opponent indeed.

They came upon the meeting hall, the table of which had been laden with fruits, sweet-meats, dainties, delicacies, and many, many dishes of the finest quality. Hath was polite, and sampled a few, as well as a cup of the fruity wine that was served in golden goblets, and he moved over to converse with the many people that were gathered, elven and human alike. Kax did no such thing. He had a cup in his hand, but did not drink, or eat. His rather intimidating glare was directed towards the Sylvan Elves that were here gathered. Enemies were enemies, in his opinion, and this was no exception. eating with an enemy was something that he did not do. He stayed for as long as was considered polite to the host, and he slipped out. He needed some air. He needed to clear his head. Peace? The very idea boggled his mind. Their kind had always been at some war or another, and he had always been at the battlefront. He would have had it no other way.

At least one set of eyes, his father's followed him.

He moved out into the garden, his mind mulling over what would happen when peace was finally established when he saw her.

Anira had not been sitting long when she felt a shift in the air around her; someone had entered the garden. She looked up from her lap where she held a rose and turned to see the prince of all people. What where the chances? He quickly saw her as well and so she stood, her dress falling into place easily as she did so. She looked him over for a few seconds and gave a small curtsy before speaking in her small, almost bird like voice. “Your highness.”

The tall elf was initially surprised by her presence there. The fact that he was standing in a garden, and, apparently a well tended one by human standards, completely slipped his mind. It would use a bit of of sprucing, elf sprucing, as had happened in the spot where the young Sylvan elf was standing. He bowed back, as manners had been ingrained in his mind, against his will, and for her to be here, she had to be some sort of royalty," An honor to meet you in person, my lady..."

"Anira" She smiled back at him but was a bit confused, who did he think she was? "My father is King Almirtic." She shifted a bit as she spoke, not really one who enjoyed stating her status but it was necessary at the moment and she hoped it didn't seem rude.

His eyes hardened sharply, and any indication of the honor that he had spoken of vanished. He never smiled anyway, and that particular stance seemed to be one that he adopted permanently, so nothing much really changed of his look towards her," I am Prince Kaxlytheri," He didn't need to tell her whom his father was," Why are you out here, and not in the hall with the others?"

"Yes I know my lord." She kept her smile steady despite becoming nervous. He was very intense and she was unsure how to deal with it.  The tree behind her must have felt her nerves and so seemed to shiver its branches,as if a wind hand moved through. She felt the small white flowers hit her hair and turned a bit 'whispering to it before it settled. She returned her  gaze to the prince before her and spoke. "I suppose I needed some air. Human castles are so stuffy."

He ignored the way the branches moved according to her mood, even if he understood her mood at all. Sylvans were odd folk, no mistake, and while he understood about the stuffy air of human castles, he felt uncomfortable anywhere that wasn't home or in the field. Peace was certainly making his stomach shudder. His jaw clenched. Being around an enemy, and not cutting her down as making him feel stuffy," Indeed... Well, if you will excuse me.."

Almirtic had been seated in the center of the table, his wife to one side and the White Elf King to the other. As he tasted of the human food and drink he looked about at the way the white elf guards moved and acted. They were hardened for sure and it seemed the prince was very similar. He wondered how the boy had taken to the idea of a marriage. It was obvious he had agreed as he  was present, which was goods, as Almirtic would never give his daughter to an unwilling  husband. That was just asking for trouble. As the pale man beside him ate Almirtic spoke. “So how is your boy taking everything?”

Hath watched the young man go. Kax was so very similar to what he had been at the youth's ago. Violent, aggressive, always wanting to prove himself better than the rest of the elves around, or even in the world. That fact saddened him a bit, making his mind wander so that he didn't realize he was being spoken to. His head shot up," Hmm? Oh... I haven't told him what the terms of your sur... our agreement was."

Almirtic froze and looked at them man hard. "You haven’t told him yet?" Next to him the Queen could feel her husband go still and looked over, her eyes shifting as she realized he was very unhappy. The king was willing to overlook the surrender 'slip up' but if the white elf fool thought he was going to toss his daughter to the dogs he had another thing coming.

Hath didn't want to admit why he hadn't told his son. The youth was more powerful than he was at everything, really. Fear was what had held him back. Having watched teh way that he enjoyed war had almost made the king change his mind over trying to sue for peace. He was, quite frankly, afraid that the young man would overtake his kingdom, and kill him in the process. But he couldn't say that," You don't know the 'boy'. He lives for war. He has been at war all of his life, and it is all he understands. Peace was hard enough for him. Can you imagine what telling him that he was going to marry the daughter of the people that have been his enemies for as long as he can remember, and being told all of this at the same time," He shook his head, thinking of his son once more," No... "

"So what is keeping him from beating my daughter or even killing  her once he takes the thrown?" Almirtic looked at the King and shook his head. "She could do great things for your people Hath; she has more natural magic in her than any of us but I will not risk her saftey over your son's pride." He turned and motioned for a gaurd to retrieve Anira before returning his gaze. "Tell him now."

Hath nodded, ashamed," Yes... but the only thing now that is keeping him from killing me is the fact that he is among 'allies,'" He spat the word out like a curse, his heritage revealing it's colors," once he has had the time to mull over it, there will be less of a chance haveing a violent outbreak over it," He paused, adn turned away," Of course, I can make no promises, other than that I will make my finest attempt to stop him should the need arise."
Almirtic breathed in deeply as Hath spoke. He could see the truth in the king's eyes when he spoke of protecting his daughter but it was not good enough. "I am sorry but I need more than that. If your son doesnt agree then the agreement is off." He hated to yank away their only hope but he would.

Hath smiled grimly, snorting a bit," I am afraid, my dear Almirtic, that my son, and others, would enjoy that all too much," He scowled.

“Of course.”  Anira bent her head to the prince once more as he was about to leave, ready to regain her seat as her grandfather arrived with a guard. He was small, an inch taller than Anira, but with dark tanned skin and red hair cut short. He wore the clothes of his own home,  dark pants that came in just under his knee to show bare feet and a loose dark green shirt that was kept close by a thick leather belt on which his sword hung. His face was worn and wrinkled but his stance and body was strong, giving off the air of a warrior. “Filidhrentithiel my child come to me.” Vasile held a hand out and Anira immediately moved to him, her lavender eyes staying on Kax for a second before she reached her grandfather and took his hand.

As Anira reached her grandfather she looked up into his eyes and frowned. “What is it?” Vasile looked over to the prince for a moment and looked back, his face easing a bit. “Your father has called you, go to him.” Anira nodded and immediately made her way inside, followed by the guard. As she left Vasile turned to look at  Kax, his face hard. “If you don’t want her ghost boy then just say so and be gone but know you are a fool. Look around you. This whole place blooms like  it is the middle of spring yet the snow will come any day now; if she could do this to the human lands imagine the greatest that would become of your dead city. But as I said, feel free to refuse. I would rather she stay anyhow.” With that Vasile turned and made his way in, returning to his seat with a flourish.

Deamonbane

Kax looked at the smaller man with disdain clear in his eyes," I don't want her, tree monkey. I don't know what came into your mind that I did. Now, I thought you were to be discussing surrender terms with my father. I think you should get back to it," He moved past him, how taller, more powerful frame bumping the older elf's shoulder out of the way. He was the epiphany of arrogance and pride. He felt very little fear, and he moved into the castle again, finding the outside becoming rather too filled with Sylvan filth for his tastes. He moved into the cooler insides of the castle, hoping that no other tree elf would come and bother him. He was rather sick of their presence when they weren't around to be cut down like grass to a scythe.

Hath found his son strolling over the back to the hall, appetite catching up with him as he knew it would be. Kax was chewing when his father touched him on the shoulder," Son, I would like you to be a part of the negotiations."

Kax scowled," And be with those tree people for an instant longer without killing them? I can't see how you can stand it. I can't. What do you want me for, anyway?"

Hath took his son by the arm and forcefully pulled him in the direction of table that they were discussing the terms of peace. Kax looked as uncomfortable as he sat as if he had been sitting on a cactus, but he soldiered through it, managing not to cast his disparaging looks in the direction of any of their former enemies.

"I think," Hath told the table," That it is time that we discuss what my son has to do with the peace arrangements."

Almirtic stood then and spoke his tone flat and his style blunt. “In order to assure the success of the treaty your father and I agreed to the marriage of my daughter to yourself.” The king looked over to Anira who know seemed to blush a bit, having realized the issue that was causing such tension was the prince’s apparent obliviousness to the arrangement. She could not imagine why the white elf king would keep his son in the dark nor how he thought this was going to take place. Was he going to tell him and then push him forward for the hand fasting?

Almirtic had let what he said sink into the boy and then turned again to speak. “It is your right to accept or refuse my offer of my daughter’s hand, just as she did. If you should decline the peace will be reached some other way but I doubt you will leave in such a good position otherwise.” He looked at Anira then and took a deep breath, disliking his own use of her but knowing it was necessary. “If you would like to speak either your father or Anira now would be the time.”

Deamonbane

Kax listened to the tree elf speak, his eyes almost gleaming his dislike, his fingers gripping the wood of the his seat until the could feel splinters dig into his pale white palm. His face, however, was clear, calm, serene almost, except for his eyes. These gleamed like dark coals, nearly boring a holes through the tree elf that had spoken. His lips were in a thin, red line, and his jaw was clenched tightly. He was barely able to control himself. Him? Marry one of their enemies? That was utterly out of the question, in his eyes at least. Why would his father propose such a thing. But, he would never side against his father in the presence of enemies, to avoid any sort of depiction of weakness. When he opened his mouth, his voice was nearly trembling, at the breaking point, and yet still calm and smooth.

"My father is a wise man. He would not have presented such a decision without wisdom in it, and since he is my elder, I will bow to his greater knowledge,"He turned to his eyes, eye seeming to glow fiercer now,  but he turned to his bride-to-be. The fire faded, but instead, a dreadful cold filled his face then. He took a deep breath, seeming to calm the murderous rage in himself, at least for the moment, and he turned to the tree elf," I accept my part in this agreement, but let it be taken down that I have done so against my will," With that cryptic statement, he went silent, and would not say any more in that room until the meeting was done.

Anira kept herself still in her seat as the Prince listened. It was clear he was not please even if his face was expertly school and his animosity  was making her nervous. From the  stories her grandfather had told it would not have surprised her if the elf jumped forward and launched attach so as he seemed to take in the information Anira held still, focusing in on her magic. The few plants inside began to shift and move slightly and sounds of horses and dogs could be heard from the doors leading outside. Her magic was neutral, being open to both attack and defense, but she had been much more schooled in defense and growth than anything else but if she had too she could create a great deal of damage. Thankfully it seemed that would be unnecessary as Kax spoke in an agreement with his father, if an unhappy one.

Anira let her magic relax, returning to his passive state, and herself relaxed...until the Prince spoke. She whipped her head to look at him, her own face going hot and her eyes glowing a darker purple. "Then it seems we are in agreement...dear." With that she stood and gave a brief bow to both her own father and her to be father-in-law and swiftly turned on her heels to exit. How dare he! What did he think she was excited? That she wanted to leave her home only to travel  far away to a land of elves who long ago abandoned their magic and broke their bonds with nature? She felt her anger rise briefly, the garden outside shifting violently and causing a few screams from those near by until it suddenly subside. As she made her way out Almirtic looked to Vasile.

"It seems she has more of you in her everyday."

Vasile nodded and grinned, looking back at the king. "I doubt I am the only one grateful for that."

Kax could not be bothered with her reaction to his words. His eyes were glazed, and he had lost all interest in what was going on here. His jaw clenched a bit when she called him 'dear', but other than that, he showed no reaction. He didn't look at anyone and to someone who didn't know him, he seemed to be in an empathic state, his muscles seeming to be relaxed and calm. But to those that knew him, his father and soldiers that he had fought with before, knew that right now he was aching for action, aching to be doing something to his enemies besides talking to them. When she left, he found little reason to stay on as well. He stood and bowed, without a word, and left the room. His eyes were glazed over, and he made no contact with any other in the room. He left briskly, but not hurriedly.

He made for his quarters. He entered the room a very different man from the one that left the hall. His now seemed more like a caged tiger, his eyes flickering this way and that, muscles bristling, aching for action. With a low cry he burst forward, his naked fist making contact with the post of his bed. A loud crack and the post splintered and snapped in half. His fist was bleeding, with splinters inside, but he paid it no heed. He spun around and hammered his foot into the stone desk on the other side of the room. He crushed the table with a single blow, his leg bleeding and his clothes torn. With no one to hear him, he screamed at the four walls around him. Finally he calmed himself and sat on his ruined bed, breathing heavily.

Anira needed to spend some energy. She was stressed and angry and there was nowhere for her to go, no forest in which to run. As she left Anira made her way to her room and swiftly slipped out of her fancy dress and into something more comfortable. She wanted to shoot her bow and possibly, if she could convince her father, go for a ride  and the large dress was not made for that. She grabbed a brown skirt, slit to mid thigh on one side, and a matching top that was sleeveless and cut just under her bust. It was a more traditional Jungle Elf outfit made to both blend  into the trees as well as give optimum movement with little extra fabric to get caught when moving from limb to limb. Once dressed Anira grabbed her bow and arrows and began making her way down the hall silently, her bare feet making her inpercetable compared to the screaming she heard come from down the hall. Seems the prince was pissed...good.

Before long Anira arrived  outside, her dark hair braided back and showing her long pointed ears. As she moved forward guard of all races looked on, her skin shimmering and he appearance rather exotic. As she made her way to the barracks the human solders were told to leave and soon she had the place to herself. She closed her eyes and breathed deep, letting the quiet sink  in for a few seconds. As her eyes opened she felt  calm and pulled an arrow, stringing it and pulling back. She looked down the arrow and released, letting the arrow fly only to sink into the dead center of the staw stack, even at double the human's distance.

Kax felt the anger seep from his body like bad blood sucked out by leeches. He took a deep breath, not paying not to the destruction around him.War had been what he had been raised in, and, since the destroyed items had served their respective purposes, and now, lying in shambles, did not seem to lay much use, and therefore seemed to be beneath his attentions. He rolled his eyes and stood, stretching his limbs until he could almost feel the joints crackling, almost popping out, and he relaxed again. He didn't feel violent anymore, but he felt an excess of energy in his body, needing to be expended. He left his room, his eyes scanning the halls. He was in no mood to speak at the moment, he needed some room, fresh air, and space to practice. His imagination was a wonderful thing, and when he released his mind from his body, figuratively speaking, it was allowed to roam free. The way that he practiced was almost a ritual, a dance with blades and death. When he incorporated it into combat, he was unstoppable, to the point of being able to dodge or even deflect projectiles like arrows, knives, and other such items, so finely tuned were his reflexes, and so removed was his mind from interference.

He moved to where he could hear blade clashing, sounds of men yelling and taunting each other. Sounds of practiced combat. He might as well instill the same fear that the Sylvan elves felt for him in the human early on. He moved outside, his hands on his sword, when he saw her. She was dressed differently, in the way that he had seen the jungle Elves fight. Agile, quick, and deadly, but unarmored. He pulled a knife from his belt and stepped in silently ten paces behind her. He knew the weight and balance of this blade to a hair, and the distance was calculated in milliseconds. Now, if only she didn't move.

He leaned back and took a step forward, his body leaning to the front, his arm arcing above his head and with a flick of his wrist, the knife was off. The flew so close to the princess' ear that she would be able to hear the wind whistle as it flew by, faster than the eye could see. He thunked perfectly in the bullseye, chipping at her arrow and puncturing right beside it.

Anira was focused, loosing one arrow after another. The sounds of other men were loud but something very quiet could be heard and soon she felt a shift in the few nearby trees. It was Kax…great. She was in no mood to speak to him so she ignored his arrival. It was easy to do as he was almost imperceptible even to her and it was clear why her people spoke of his skill. She held and arrow in her bow, preparing to fire when she heard the knife spin by her ear and quickly released afterwards. As the knife hit the center her arrow sunk deep into the dead center of the handle and she simply pulled another.

“You make quite a statement….relax Denvir.” The guard who was with her had pulled his sword in a  panic, having thought it was an attack on her life but confused on what to do when he turned to see the  Prince. As Anira reassured him he sheathed his weapon and she waved him away, having a feeling she did not wish to be crowded when this conversation took place. As the guard moved away Anira returned her gaze to Kax. “So I suppose you will order me off now?” She looked at him flatly, not moving from her spot but simply holding her bow at her side.

She sighed then. “You know we really should try to get along if this marriage is really going to happen.” She let her annoyance fade and her calmness return, at least partially.

He looed at the arrow slamming right on the handle. It was an impressive shot, with so little time between the arrival of the knife, and her reaction time was excellent. He wasn't too terribly impressed. He would have expected no less from a woman of her status. He looked over the two guards that were speaking nearby, his powerful gaze resting on them for a few moments, making them cringe and squirm until they looked away, uncomfortable, feeling his dominant spirit, and disliking how vulnerable they felt when he looked at them. He didn't show any sort indication that made him seem gloating, but inside he was soaring. He secretly enjoyed the feeling that he caused with others, even though he never showed it, went through pains do avoid that. Gloating was not a royal thing to do.

Instead, he moved over to the target, and yanked his knife out, pulling the arrow out nad moving towards her. He sheathed the knife, and taking her hand in his own, he placed the arrow in it, closing her fingers around the wooden shaft. He didn't speak a word to her, even though he had expended his initial anger at her at the expense of the room that he was staying in, he still disliked the prospect. When she spoke, he didn't respond, even though he wanted to. Dearly. But offending his wife the first time that they met was never a good idea. So he simply nodded, and stepped away. He moved over to a large circle, used, he supposed by blademasters in their sparring duels. His shirt was taken off, folded, and placed at the edge of the cricle,a dn he drew his blade. The weapon had been in his hands for so long, it felt like an extension of his arm that had gone far too long away.

He stepped over to the center of the circle, and with his sword arm gracefully arced over his head, he balanced himself on one leg, the other curled up and tucked against the other, knee bent, and he closed his eyes, relaxing his mind for a moment. Whether there were others watching or not, he knew not, or cared. If they were able to replicate what they saw from the mere spectation of the event, they deserved to be able to watch.

Anira watched as Kax  moved forward, his steps smooth and efficient. He made his way to the target and quickly removed the knife as well as the arrow before arrivnig  back to her and taking her hand. She  raised an eyebrow at him as he set the arrow  in her palm and then closed her fiingers around it.  She took the arrow and silently as he had given it and slipped  in back into the quiver she carried. He did not seem interested in talking but she really couldnt complain too much, it was better than arguing though she feared a married life full of no emotion as  much as she did one of hatred. Either way it seemed clear that she was not to enjoy the kind of match her parents or grandparents had and so simply breathed deeply  as the man that was to be her husband walked away without a word.

As Kax moved off she watched as he made his was to a circle of sorts and then removed his shirt, causing a soft blush to come over her cheeks. He was very well built and Anira could  not help but remember then what came with marriage. As Kax drew his sword she refocused and watched as he stepped to the center. He suddenly seemed to shift and began a thing of grace, his sword arched over his head and balancing before he slowly moved as if in a very  slow dance. Anir watched mesmerized for a few minutes; it was very besutiful. She smiled and slowly set her own bow and quiver down before moving to a clearing where she took his first stance and then followed the order of his motions. She was not as good as he, her body built for faster and shorter motions, but she was not bad. Her balance was impecable from years of tree hopping and so she but had to learn his fluidity.

He remained there for a few moments, perfectly motionless, unaware, and uncaring that he was being observed and even copied. His muscles didn't quiver, as they were in a practiced position, one that he was used to being in, not even breaking a sweat in a position that most warriors would find themselves wavering and fighting for balance. Then, suddenly, h broke into motion. It was hardly noticeable, his supple muscles slowly breaking into movement, arms twisting around in a circle, remaining perched on one leg for as long as it was possible. When it ceased to be so, his other leg moving to lean on the very edge of the circle, body twisted, blade arcing, slowly, elegantly, in a sweeping motion, blade gleaming dangerously despite the slowness of the move. At the very end of the sweep, his entire body twisted, arcing his blade arm over his head, the blade coming down once the spin was completed, in a diagonal strike, considerably quicker than the previous move, more deadly, his arms flexing to make the attack on an imaginary enemy. If there actually had been an enemy in front of him, the razor sharp blade would have cloven him from shoulder to hip.

But there was no enemy, nothing to keep the blade bloodily lodged, and so the blade was twisted, spun in a figure-8 motion, loosening Kax's wrist, the end of which left his entire body taut, straight, and arced at the same time in a powerful thrust, one so quick that, had anyone watching blinked, would have missed it. He remained motionless for a half-second, his straight blade quivering in place. another spin, the blade beginning to flash quickly, far more aggressively than before, strikes, thrusts, sweeping blows, all passing in a matter of seconds, a light sheen of sweat beginning to catch the sunlight on the bladesman's body, blade glittering silver in the same sunlight. Far more aggressive the dance had become, more like a real fight than before, but still showing of an elegant and deadly beauty, Kax's eyes still closed, and the entire dance never leaving the circle.

Anira watched as Kax continued his dance, finally stopping so as to simply watch. It really was a beautiful thing and she didn't want to  miss it. Soon the dance became fast and aggressive and the war like style became clear. They were violant and she had always known that but she had never  imagined the violence could be practiced like this. What else had she missed. As he stopped she smiled and stepped forward, ignoring the human men that now watched as well. She stayed outside of the circle just in case and spoke just loud enough for him to hear her. "That was very beautiful, like a dance." She looked him over as if trying to decide what she thought of him but her face was still serene. "Would I be able to learn that?" She wasnt sure what her place was to be in this new world but she hoped it was to be a free one.

The fight seemed like a seamless, endless dance, beautiful and deadly. The blade glittered in the sunlight, clashing against invisible swords, sometimes cutting clean through them, other times seeming to flow around the imaginary block, cutting through armor, shields, and finally flesh, in an endless line of enemies, as the bladesman himself never seemed to stop, pause, or even falter. Each move was a part of the dance, but surprising as well as seemingly obvious to the person watching, after that move was conducted, of course, only to be surprised by the obvious simplicity of the next. It ended elegantly, Kax's body extended over the circle, on foot on an edge of the circle, elegantly poised in a powerful, full-body thrust, with the tip of his sword resting perfectly above the other side of the circle. His skin was slick with sweat, but not even once had he opened his eyes, nor had his breathing ever spiked over its normal rate. He finally opened his eyes, feeling more relaxed and in tune.

He turned to his soon-to-be wife, her words seeming to surprise him a bit. He smiled," Yes, it is meant to be a dance-like sword-play. Seems fitting to transform killing, such a pass-time for my people, into something of an art, wouldn't you say? Yes, I suppose you would," With that cryptic statement, he sheathed the blade again, and began to walk away.
