The World of Star Dancer is mash up of Spelljammer with Pathfinder, with the focus more on role play, not roll play.   Characters will be members of the Imperial Navy of Azureth as crew on board a Star Dancer, a ship that can sail the black void of the Expanse.     Details of the world are in the lick below, as well as lick to Character Concepts and OOC page.   We are going to start this week and would love to welcome more.   Hope to see you soon.

This looks like it could be fun. Give me a bit to do brainstorming and I'll be back...I'm guessing this is PF stats/sheets for a guideline but resolved in a freeform style?

Whelp, concept 1 - can you tell me a bit more about Tyron, the God of Death? Is he outright Evil, like his siblings? Or is he just lumped into the Evil Pantheon for being a child of Tyrus despite death not being inherently evil in most cases? I've got an interesting potential idea for an undead-hunting Inquisitor of Tyron, out to find and destroy people trying to escape their fate via undeath or other sneakiness. But it doesn't work if Tyron is a puppy-kicking baby-eating evil murder-god like Nerull?

For that matter, how are the various temples treated in the Empire? Are priests/temples of the Pantheon of Evil allowed to worship openly, entirely separate from my first question?

BlackStone

Good questions.   I think for simplicity that Tyron is indeed an evil deity.   Worship of the evil deities is against Imperial law, but that does not mean there are not secret temples and such present.   Hope this helps.

TheGlyphstone

Well, it means the concept is unplayableharder. I guess that is helpful to know, at least - I was used to Pathfinder deities where the god(dess) of Death is Neutral and strongly anti-undead.

EDIT: Possibly not unplayable, I can salvage this...an Evil god can have neutral followers. It's the doctrine of Tyron that I'm interested in. 'Fear and Tyranny' and 'Pain and Strife' are obvious, but what about Tyron makes him Evil?

Lustful Bride

*kind of interested in this but has never done a system game before* >_<

Edit: Also this setting really reminds me of an Independent Animated movie called Aero Troopers.

Was a really old movie, im not sure most people even knew it existed.

BlackStone

Mainly corruption from the Prime Evil that is his father leans Tyron evil, but I can be convinced with a good concept with a Neutral player that worships in secret and is a respected member of the Empire.

TheGlyphstone

I can work with that. The only difficulty I'm finding is the need to display a Holy Symbol when casting my divine spells, which would reveal him pretty quickly. Any ideas?

BlackStone

I think we can work something out.  We can have Tyron have a fairly common item that can double as a holy symbol for those worshipers that must do from secret.

TheGlyphstone

Could I have a fake, hollow holy symbol of another god/dess, with my real symbol stored inside it?

Anyways, concept time I guess: Lawful Neutral Dwarven Inquisitor 6 with the Final Rest Inquisitiob. He claims to worship Celene (who also hates undead apparently, Repose Domain), but is actually an undead-hunter following Tyron. With no real information to go on, I'm going to improvise a bit and say part of Tyron's doctrine is that 'the dead stay dead' - undead are an abomination to be cleansed, but so are people who have been Raised, Resurrected, or Reincarnated. Some cults of Tyron take it a bit further and actively murder people for the sake of death, but this character is from a more moderate sect of the 'one natural lifespan and you're done' philosophy. Tough, gruff, and an excellent liar, serves as a war-priest on the ship.

Chulanowa

Still interested in this; just had a brain slump period!

Thus far is a Samurai, a Wizard / Fighter, and a druid?

Also, how does the group work? Are we just grunts under military command, or more of a freelance / privateer thing going on?

BlackStone

The Samuari and the Swashbuckler are NPC and were are up there for examples.   The Samuari is not a member of the crew.   The Swashbuckler is, and yes your characters are Centurtions and part of the Imperial Navy at the start of the game.

As far as aproved concepts we have an Eagle Shaman (Druid), a fighter mage (future Eldrich Knight), an Archer (Fighter), and an Inquisitor.

BlackStone

Looks like we have lost some people and the game really only has started.   Looking to see if there is anyone else out there that might be interested in being part of the crew of the Emerald Wind.   Links to OOC and game posts are in the first post of this thread.

Ghostwheel

You mention that some people have dropped--who's left, so we can know what kind of characters to sign up with?

TheGlyphstone

I'm still around, if this game still exists - I thought it disappeared/died.

BlackStone

I am willing to keep it going as onlg as I ahve players willing to play

I can throw a character together over the weekend if you still need people

Edit: Moved this to the OOC:

The game is back in my bookmarks again, and I have posted putting up an Alarm spell.  :)

Sorrow Singer

Character Basics
Name: Sai
Gender: Female
Race:  Corrupted Human
Crew Position: Laborer, assistant mechanic, Mine shaft Canary.
Rank: Centurion?

Character Appearance
Height: 4' 8"
Weight: 98 lbs
Hair Color: Silver
Eye Color: Scarlet
Build: Deceptively sleight. Athletic.
Distinguishing marks: The clear descendant of a tainted bloodline, Sai's corruption manifests in two forms. First being freakish inhuman strength, utterly impossible of such stature. As well as a clearly demonic Prehensile tail comprised of a series of bony ridges about a foot and a half long. To complete the demonic visage her arms up to both elbows are black as pitch and roughly textured, like rock. she also bears the brands of a human slave in the form of an intricate eleven tattoo that runs down the entire length of her back, stating plainly 'This one is tainted.'

Personality: Reclusive as the result of a harsh life of manual labor and ruthless discrimination. Resentful, but not foolish Sai has learned how best to cope with the trials of a life of slavery. She is familiar with basic etiquette among both commoners and nobles. and appears always respectful to members of the higher castes. Seeking constantly to push herself up from the bottom, to twist her strange curse to her advantage.

History: Cursed with a demonically tainted bloodline, Sai has been considered a freak and monster her entire life. In the wake of the Sundering It's hardly surprising that even citizens of the flaunted Bright land had reasons to hate demons and all their ilk. For Sai, surviving childhood at all was a small miracle as clearly tainted as she was. raised a clanless slave from birth Sai never met her human mother, or her apparently demonic father. She earned her living working in the mines from a young age, she was naturally gifted at the roll with her small stature and inhuman strength. finding more kinship among the Dwarves than other humans. She earned an unexpected name for herself one day when a large section her crews tunnel collapsed leaving them stranded and cut off from their tools. Refusing to die like a commoner Sai threw herself against fate. Armed only with a pair of Adamantine sifting gauntlets she crushed her way through nearly thirty feet of solid rock and soil to emerge unscathed. Saving the lives of a dozen fellow miners. and one very grateful noble.
Sai was decidedly wasted in the mines, such a potent slave could surely be brought to better use. and so it was in the space of a few short months Sai found herself working far above the ground as compared to far below it. Though rather uneducated and without formal combat training, an expendable asset was invaluable to any exploratory venture. and the Star Dancers had particular need of brave and willing fodder.

Pockets

If there's still room, I'd have had this up last week but between health issues and losing my job, I've had other issues to deal with.

Player ID: Pockets

Character Basics
Name: Shio
Gender: Male
Race: Human (Ursa)
Crew Position: Military Police
Rank: Centurion

Character Appearance
Height: 75 inches/ 190.5 cm
Weight: 180 lbs./ 81.65 Kg
Hair Color: As Picture
Eye Color: As Picture
Build: As picture
Distinguishing marks: Nothing really distinguishing except that he never wears armor of any kind.

Personality: Shio is a calm and reserved kind of man more prone to careful thought than rash actions. Despite the devastating capacity of his barehands, he prefers to render his opponents unconscious and put in manacles than killing them outright. A corpse is worth nothing but extra work, a prisoner is more valuable for its potential information.

History: Shio was raised in an Imperial Monastery. His life was rigorous and structured from his earliest memories. The Abbot informed him later in life that he was an orphan left at their door. As such they raised him as best they could. Which meant that he was raised as one of their own.

He learned the martial ways of the monastery slowly working his way up until he was given a choice. He could remain with the monastery and become a full Monk or he could go out into the world and find his own way. He was given three days to meditate on the situation. On the second day, the choice was made for him as officers of the Imperial Legion came and demanded, rudely, that they offer up 20 members of their monastery to serve in the Legion.

Knowing that many of his brothers were pacifistic by nature or were too young to serve, he confronted the arrogant Officer stating that the Monastery did not need to do anything that they would leave quietly of their own volition or he would carry their bruised and battered bodies out of the monastery himself.

The fight, such as it was, was short and one sided. Shio’s specialty had been his groundwork. Tripping his opponents to the ground and making them hurt. Within moments he’d rendered the officer and his escort unconscious before he literally dragged them, one at a time by their ankles and dropped them outside the door of the monastery.

Returning to the foot of the Abbot, he said, “My decision is made, Father. The Imperium wants twenty of us, but they can barely handle me. I will go and I will appeal to the Imperium to accept me and me alone.”

The Abbot shook his head, “You may go as one of us, but you will not go alone. The Imperium wants twenty of us and they will not stop until they have what they want. It is just best if we accept that and move on. Tonight we will feast. In the morning, I will accept volunteers. If we do not have twenty volunteers by the tenth bell, we will have a lottery to decide the remainder.

The next day, a full unit of the Legion arrived with the Officer from the previous day who was much more respectful in his request for twenty members who all left with only a small pack of food and the clothes they wore each to their names.

His actions against the Officers was enough to get him placed with the Military Police where he would use his skills to subdue those who had broken the law and would need to stand trial.

Combat Tricks

Agile Maneuvers (Combat): You can spend a number of stamina points equal to your Dexterity bonus while attempting combat maneuver checks. For every 2 stamina points that you spend in this way, you are considered to be one size category larger than your actual size when determining whether you can affect a target creature with your combat maneuver and when calculating your size bonus for that check.

Combat Reflexes (Combat): When you miss with an attack of opportunity, you can spend 5 stamina points to make a second attack for the same provoking action. That second attack of opportunity takes a –5 penalty on the attack roll and costs one of your attacks of opportunity for the round.

Improved Trip (Combat): You can select this feat even if you don’t meet the ability score prerequisite (Intelligence 13). You gain the benefits of this feat only as long as you have at least 1 stamina point in your stamina pool. When you are the target of a trip combat maneuver, you can spend a number of stamina points up to your Strength or Dexterity bonus, whichever is greater. Your CMD against that trip attempt increases by that number.

Improved Unarmed Strike (Combat): When you deal nonlethal damage with an unarmed strike, you can spend up to 5 stamina points to deal an amount of additional nonlethal damage equal to double the amount of stamina points you spent.

Scorpion Style (Combat): When you hit with an unarmed attack using this feat and the target successfully saves against the effect, you can spend 2 stamina points to reduce the target’s movement speed by half for 1 round.

Stunning Fist (Combat): You can spend 5 stamina points to declare that you are using Stunning Fist after you’ve hit with an unarmed strike.

Weapon Finesse (Combat): You can spend 2 stamina points to negate the penalty on attack rolls from your shield’s armor check penalty until the start of your next turn.
