Small Group sci-fi RP {2 slots open}

This is an interest check for a small group sci-fi RP. The RP will follow a small group of mercenaries as they take on a job that will live them questioning the galaxy they thought they understood. Hired by an anonymous source our characters will all believe they are just going on another quick operation, only after they learn that they were not the only mercenary hired for this operation will they begin to question the nature of the job they were hired to complete.

Where:
This RP will take place in the Milky Way Galaxy in the distant future. There will be a centralized United Planetary government, that is mainly run and funded by the superpowers of the Milky Way Galaxy(I will be adding specifics about the super powers as I find the time to flush them out). The Milky Way is home to all types of life forms, so feel free to create your own planet/solar system for your character's race, if you would like to make your race a superpower just let me know, though it will require a little more detail if you'd like to create a superpower.

Who:
This RP will follow a rag tag bunch of mercenaries that are forced to come together after a mission where they were all individual hired to retrieve information from a top secret laboratory. Our characters will be in the dark as to the specifics of their mission and to the fact that they will not be working alone, all they will really know is that they are getting payed a lot of money to acquire some top secret researcher data. Here are the specific roles that will need to be filled: Captain/leader, mechanic, computer specialist, medic, and scientist. While each character will have one main role, characters should be skilled enough to help out with another duty or have another job, an example of this could be that the computer specialist also has a knack for scientific researcher or they are an ace pilot. Characters should also be more then comfortable getting into a gun fight should they have to, unless of course you would like your character to specifically be against hurting others. As I said earlier the Milky Way is home to many different aliens, so feel free to create a character that you really want to play as.

Posting rate depends on how active the group as a whole wants to be, but I am thinking a minimum of once or twice a week.  You don't need to know anything about either of those shows, though if your into sci-fi shows I highly recommend them.

Riven - Illyrian from the planet Illyria.
Her story - She was born and raised on Illyria, a peaceful planet who had transcended violence and war.
There planet thrived in excess in large part due to the symbiosis between the citizenry and the planet. Illyria’s government, made up of a council of men and women who’s soul job it was to commune constantly with the organism that was Illyria. Riven had been apart of this council.

Life spent largely in meditation was blissful and transcending until the outsiders came with their guns, declarations and treaties. Illyria quickly fell to the more spiritually primitive forces, accepting their fate with stoicism and knowing. Only a few from the council were kept alive for interrogation and experimentation, Riven was one of them.

Abilities: empathic and she can dissolve the fabric of reality around her through the power of her mind. This allows her to walk through walls and change appearances. Her mind is very strong and she is still learning what she is capable of.

This is just a rough draft, character development comes to me through play. I’m also open to suggestions.

As you should, Captain! 😜 I’d like to be the medic... I think I can play that part well with Riven, also Riven iis a pascifist by nature although this she struggles with the idea of non-violence after what happened to her planet and her.

I normally lean towards engineer, soldier and scientist types, but two of those involve the harder elements of sci-fi, which is what I was talking about above. Really my characters are inspired by the setting, so I'd like to discuss that a bit more before I really make any decisions.

This RP will be lighter on smut, but that does not mean there will be none of it. I can't really say an amount as it will probably depend on the groups collective interest in adding it into the story.

I want the RP to be fun and open to everyone, as I am not a big fan of forcing other people to play inside a box of my own creation. I am going to try and create a path that has plenty of forks and trails for people's imaginations to wander down and take ownership of. The tone of the story will be on the more realistic side of things. I hope this helps.

Basically I’m trying to decide how reputable my character is; an upstanding individual who got the mission through proper channels, found it posted on some anonymous channel somewhere, was referred to this team from some shady individual, etc...

I’ve got a basic idea in my head, just fleshing out their backstory. I’m hoping to double down take on the roles of computer specialist and mechanic, if no one has objections. I’m kind of imagining something like a Shadowrun decker, his main way of participating in combat would be through drones and gadgets.

All characters will be contacted by the anonymous person with a deal that will be too good to pass up along with the location of the assignment. A character's past does not really matter, as long as they in some way stand out from their peers, so you can have a goody tissue, a cold blooded killer, or a soft spoken genius. The crew is meant to be rag tag and filled with people from all walks of life. Does that answer your question?

History: The Autonomous Interstellar Caretaker Model quickly became a staple for long distance travel. Upon its release on the market, it rapidly was made into a requirement for insurance coverage on vessels that intended to utilize hyper sleep travel. Base models were skilled mechanics who were programmed to handle day to day minutiae and maintenance with aplomb, yet also make rational split second choices in a crisis situation.

Other than cosmetics, the design for the base model has remained unchanged for over two centuries, though upgrades have been made to the material components and neural system. Plexi has served on two previous vessels, before being decommissioned and “set free”.

87% of the “lower sentient” droids that were released from their bondage after the robot rights movement, immediately applied for employment with their previous owners, finding comfort in their previous roles. Plexi was amongst them, missing the cold quiet of space and the welcome burden of accounting for her ship and crew.

To speak of Plexi herself, she has one “black mark” on her record in which she abandoned her crew rather than risk the chance that the scientific data and stellar charts might fall into the hands of hostile life forms.
