Green Lantern Honor Guard: Assigned to dangerous missions, investigating the impossible they are or were an elite group previously chosen from best and the brightest of the Lanterns to troubleshoot when and wherever was needed but now...

The Premise: Parallax escaped, breaking the seal and embedded itself into Mogo as its host. Death and destruction rained down upon the Corps and the enemies of them were quick to rise up against to try and seize advantage, adding to the chaos as a new war spilled out across the cosmos. Far greater than could have been imaged, countless Lanterns fell from the sudden seeming insanity of Mogo and the war that raged. Allies arrived to aid but the scale had tipped and nearly all hope seemed to be lost. Mogo, pulling back control sacrificed itself to save those who remained in a colossal explosion of energy. Only when the dust began to clear was the full scope of the damage truly seen. Mogo was dead along with many other Green Lanterns either missing or having met their end. Now only a handful of prominent Green Lanterns remain; Kilowog, Sodam Yat, and few others. Their Guardians; Ganthet, Sayd. Whether the other guardians were behind the scenes, missing or dead is unknown at this time. As it stands, the rules in the Book of OA are under emergency revision but basic laws still apply, such as not abusing the powers given, obeying the chain of command and rules of engagement. The law concerning lethal force is still rescinded, though that doesn’t mean it gives the Lanterns carte blanche and they will still be accountable to justify that use of force. The other law concerning physical relationships and love between Green Lanterns has not been reinstated either.

Sector 2814 - The entire sector, including Earth, is missing along with all of the Guardians who protected it. They had not be part of the conflict and their fates are unknown. While it is a massive hole in space, a rule is declared that the entire sector is off limits. No answers are given as to why by the Guardians at this time.

Obviously this is a break from the comics themselves and non-canon. Enemies are abundant, the influence and control the Green Lantern Corps had established is broken and many sectors whose Lanterns were recalled to try to quell Mogo and battle back the sudden onslaught at the hands of the Yellow Lanterns and other enemies will never return to protect them. Mogo is no longer around to send the rings out to potential prospects so recruitment has fallen on top of their other responsibilities to the few Lanterns that remain. These events take place after Sinestro Corps Wars and the Blackest Night.

At the start, I’ll be taking the role of squad leader and then at least 3 other lantern original characters fresh out of training, no humans, only alien races (DC Canon Races allowed) for those characters as well. Obviously at this time ONLY going to be Green Lanterns. As the Power Rings are incredibly powerful on their own, a healthy restraint would be appreciated on which races are chosen as to not take away or outshine the Rings themselves. Depending on interest, could be 4-5 in total. With one of those Player Characters then potentially needing to step up and take on the mantle of team leader. For now it’ll be a small group. Due to the low numbers of the entire Corps, this team that has just graduated from Basic Training under the tutelage of Kilowog was determined to be the top of their class and have been selected to be part in the reformation of a special team to conduct investigations, go out and handle situations in sectors that either have no Lanterns or that the Lanterns that are present are not able to handle on their own.

Welcome to the Green Lantern Corps and welcome to the Honor Guard.

To Apply, PM me your character sheet.

As far as systems go, I considered using one but none of them really set to well with the green lantern abilities so it is going to be free form.  Combat typically will work in the manner of giving the action you are performing and then the giving the opponent the chance to respond.

Edit: In answer to a question already received, rings will not need to be charged every 24hrs they run until depleted and Parallax did not get to run free, thanks to Mogo's sacrifice he was once again trapped inside of the central battery. The Yellow Impurity can however be over come as shown by some of the Veteran Lanterns.

No Godmodding / Metagaming
Use 3rd person
Smut allowed, story is focus.

Updated - Characters Thus Far...

Squad Leader Lantern #1

Player Name: Sketch
Character Name: Tethyr
Face Claim: Charlie Hunnam
Race: Tebans - Humanoid alien race, notable differences are the colored hues of skin.  Both genders of the species tend to be exceptionally fit. Tethyr has a light grey pallor to his skin due to the poison he had battled in his younger days and a pair of piercing silver eyes.

Gender: Male
Age:36
Personality Stern, stoic, unrelenting. Many of his people's prejudices and misogynistic beliefs that had been instilled into him since birth he sometimes backslides into, having worked hard to overcome them. Beyond that rough exterior, there is still a rough brutal man who does not mince words and will speak exactly what means. He possesses a deep code of honor and to those that manage to earn his trust or friendship will never find a more loyal companion. His dominant and gruff personality however tends to be fairly off putting to those who first meet him.

History: From the time that he was able to walk he began training in the art of war and conflict as was fitting of his position as he was the first son of a Warlord. Studies, videos, weapons training, simulations and mock battles when he came of age against his peers who were engaged in the same sort of learning program that he was in. During this time however, there were efforts to try and stop their people from warring even from some of their own. He paid little heed to such things as he would not be distracted from his task as he so desperately wanted to reach the top and prove himself to his family and peers. He would learn however, that not all who were being trained and desired such place had noble intentions or designs. One of his best friends in their final exam, the two of them nearing that goal post betrayed him at the last moment and quite literally stabbed him in the back before summarily kicking him down the mountain. Due to the near fatal wound, the severe damage sustained in his impact and the poison that coursed through his blood stream, it was required that he be put into a stasis of sorts and medically induced coma. Though he would not be awake to see it, his younger brother instead rose up to make claim that mantle of successor after that and with his older brothers possible recovery and return to steal from him what he had taken, he took steps to remove his brother from the equation. Due to the nature of that medical condition, his younger brother caused the transport that would take his brother to one of the other planets in their system to malfunction and send it directly into their systems star. The malfunction caused his coma to end and his stasis to release. Though weakened from the complex poison, and his wounds leaving him in a near critical state though they had been stabilized he awoke to see what he thought would be his end. Stubborn, he wouldn’t give those whom had betrayed him have the satisfaction of going easily. Dragging himself to the cockpit, his training allowed him to reclaim control enough to stop the ships course and right himself just enough to skim the gravity well and fling himself out of danger. Taught survival, he made due in the void of space in the dead ship with what rations that he could put together, hopeful that someone would come for him. The poison ebbed his life away and in his weakened state he had little hope of fighting it. He did not wish to welcome death but he did not fear it. On what he believed would be his final hour, a ring seemed to appear before his face. “Tethyr of Tebis, you have the ability to overcome great fear.” He knew of these rings and the Corps. He didn’t see why one would be sent to him but perhaps this was meant to be his true calling. Taking the ring in his weakened state he got the ship moving again, sending it through a wormhole in his delirious state. He would later awaken in the care of other Green Lanterns, rested, recovered and ready to begin his training.

Many years later, war had come and Mogo the great Lantern world had gone crazy. His military background, training and quick mind would serve those around him well as he tried to make sense of the chaos. At the end, he found himself being called to OA being thrust once more into a position that he once so craved but now feared. He was bestowed the position of Lantern 1, and to lead a team for fill the vacuum that had now been created.

Additional Abilities / Weaknesses:

Weakness - No Powers without the ring / he still is in prime war fighting shape, a master at arms and has a dangerous combat mind while also having trained in multiple fighting styles of his own people and that he could learn and train with from his years in the Corps.

Skills:

Military Tactics: As a future general / Warlord of Tebis,  is very well versed in the tactics of battle.
Weapons Master: He is proficient in the use of several types of weaponry.
Fears:[/b Deep down though he would never admit it he is afraid of claiming a position of leadership, this latest position that he was given is a struggle for him as it comes with a mixed bit of baggage. It plays directly into his fear of being betrayed as well as letting his team down and failing them. Even having overcome this fear previously in trials from training it is still something that haunts him from his past.

Honor Guard Lantern #2

Player Name: BarbaraGordon

Character Name: Khea Taramka

Face Claim: Alexis Kaufman

Race: Thanagarian

Gender: Female

Age:27

Personality:

Khea lives for the thrill, there’s almost nothing she won’t try and do at least once. She’s brash and brassy and prefers to speak her mind out even if someone’s already told her to be quiet. She’s able to commit though, someone in her profession can’t not have a drive and determination, no matter the underlying reason they’re into it.  Any sort of hurt or bad emotions, she tends to bury into her shell. Inherently though, there is a goodness there.

History:

Khea was born to the upper heights of luxury on Thanagar. Her mother owned one of the largest Nth metal mines in the known galaxy, along with other multi planetary concerns, and her children wanted for nothing. Of her 5 brothers and sisters, Khea was always the one to do something exhausting, exacerbating to get some attention from her parents, divided as it was.

Her parents, rather then attempt to punish or discipline her, attempted to channel her wild energy into something more constructive. They started her at the age of 10 in Asteroihoop (for a more human frame of reference, if one were to combine American Ninja Warrior, the Biathlon, NASCAR, and Flying, that would be close.) It channeled all her creative (read, destructive) energy into one place. She took to the sport like a fish takes to water. Her grades never really improved, but like most star athletes she was given a bit of a pass.

She entered the pro circuit at the age of 18 and thanks to her mother’s connections, she was given all sorts of endorsements. She had her own line of clothing, wing treatments, and a holo-net show detailing her training. Despite the luxury, she was a highly trained athlete, and even her high octane life style demanded an iron will and a rockin’ set of abs.

Tragedy struck at the age of 25, already considered a “veteran” by the sports standards, when a horrific accident put her into the hospital for months. The doctors had no choice but to amputate her wings. She was almost suicidal from it, until her mother paid an obscene amount of money for an experimental surgery, that provided her a pair of Nth metal wings. She kept the scar across her face, as it added some character.

The new wings, while illegal in the sport, at least allowed her to fly again, at even greater speeds then before. She had full control over them and took to flying wherever she could, nearly inexhaustible in her energy thanks to the connection she had to the Nth metal. She kept her lifestyle up, thanks to the holo-net show that drew in even more viewers with her daredevil stunts. She probably would have been content to fly forever, until a glowing green ring floated up to her.

Khea dyed her hair to go along with her new green friend, and traveled off to boot. She took the new challenge with the same gusto as her previous training, even managing to get under Kilowog’s skin several times, before she graduated at the near the top of her class, and was selected for a very special assignment…

Additional Abilities / Weaknesses: Khea has a pair of Nth metal wings that allow her to fly unaided by the ring. She has full control over them, and they are in fact retractable and deployable. She prefers to keep them out however. They can be quite sharp at the right angles.

Skills: Khea is an expert flier, both under her own power and having owned several vehicles thanks to her wealth, at starships and such. Thanks to her athletic background, she’s a fine marksman as well. She also has a crash course in basic medicine, something all Hoopers are required to take.

Fears: She has a fear of losing her wings again, which is why she gets nervous and edgey when in situations where she’s made to retract her Nth metal wings. Crashes, while unavoidable forever for someone like her, also inspire a bit of terror as she relives her accident. She’s also afraid of skreech bugs

Honor Guard Lantern #3

Player Name: Bekah Boo
Character Name: Zarielle 'Zari' Nesturent
Face Claim: Crystal Reed
Race: Shadar (Shadow walker)
Gender: Female
Age: 25
Personality: For the most part Zari does tend to remain aloof and rather to herself, emotions tend to get in the way of the much needed hyper focus she must maintain while in the void as showing an ounce of weakness can spell trouble for her if she isn't careful. When she is not heavy in her training she does tend to meditate much more than others probably would, making her appear cold and distant especially to new comers. She's not entirely heartless however and if approached she does engage in some conversation although mostly to not appear rude, her demeanor stoic and calm as it isn't often she isn't seen with some sort of lost in time book or other means to calm her mind (usually some sort of herbal tea does wonders). Above all she is fiercely loyal as those whom have gained her trust will find a honest and fight to the death mentality within Zari, as her bluntness and uncaring manner of what is thought of her makes her quite the enemy if she were to have one.
History: Zari comes from a long line of Shadar who are distant cousins or rather share blood with Talokians, rather than being able to project shadows the Shadar are able to actually go into it as well as have other notable differences from the Talokians. Rather than the traditional blue skin those of Shadar are grey in hue along with pointed ears, although Zari is even more different than those of her own race as she was blessed/cursed with the living gate upon herself making her travel into the void unpredictable. As a child Zari often woke to nightmares in which she was consumed within a world of darkness and yet she could not be found, no matter how her screams rang out she was utterly ignored by the casual looks of those around her, that no matter how much she begged and clung to the moving forms around her she seemed invisible. The first occurrence had happened at a local sleep over held with the other girls in her class, as Zari had dozed off only for the family to be unable to find the young girl, that a few hours after her disappearance did she suddenly appear nearly two miles from the home in hysterics. This would be hidden from even her parents until a final time in which the authorities were actually called as Zari disappeared from school and unable to be found, her parents finally coming to terms that their daughter was indeed different than traditional Shadar and normalcy had to be excused for tradition.

The void was a rite of passage normally made by those much older and fine tuned by training, and yet Zari had the startling ability to do so even from a young age, as her parent's wishes to protect her and uphold the strict traditions of their heritage instead left the girl with the scarring terror of being lost and unfound. After an explanation and further evaluation of her abilities that she was instilled with Zari did what she could to remain calm and even tempered as she found in moment's of high stress and anxiety allowed the gate to open and thrust her into the void, that over time she was able to hone in her ability and yet the fear she had is still felt even to this day. Life would resume as normal from then on if not slightly uncertain with the growing waves of discord and chaos even their new world was being plagued with, humans with bizarre and terrifying abilities, threats of space and war, this was not the life Zari's parents wished to give their daughter; and yet Zari herself did not want to run from them like her parents did so long ago. Rather she wanted to fight...and she knew the fates decided such for her when the opportunity of joining the academy came that her calling was to be fulfilled.
Additional Abilities / Weaknesses: With Zari's abilities she is able to walk between the known world and what is called 'the void', which in a sense is the shadow realm. Everything appears the same and yet she is undetectable and can walk freely and interact with the known world, like an invisible force that can observe but not be touched. For those with higher senses she can be felt to some degree depending on their own strength, as if she were to brush or speak in the void it is barely a ripple or like the barely heard sound of a whisper at the back of your mind. There is a danger of staying too long within the void as the being must have a calm demeanor and apt attention, that should panic set in there is a chance the gateway to exit can be lost and forever be lost within the shadowy realm and watch everything around themselves continue on without knowing they are trapped. This is Zari's greatest fear of being lost within the void and watching those around her and yet be unheard despite being right in front of them, as many a shadar who foolishly have gone within the void for too long have succumbed to madness and eventually wasted away to leave nothing but an eerie fog behind that shows their once presence.
Skills: Apart from her stealth skill Zari is a practiced fighter in the art of martial arts and acrobatics, using the gymnast like ability to make her very formidable in hand to hand as well as vanishing and reappearing in front of enemies only to deliver knock out blows in a blink of an eye. Her lean form makes her quite flexible as well as ideal in leaving her presence be very hard to detect, making her difficult to pin down as she can wrestle and contort her way into many different positions.
Fears: Being trapped within the void, Left behind, Forgotten
Additional info: Zari is like most Shadar as her skin is a light ashy grey, along with the traditional pointed ears which she has multiple piercings in each. Zari has a constantly moving, living mark on herself that serves as the gate to travel into the void. It coils and swirls like ink in water across her flesh though usually tends to stay around the area of her wrists and forearms. When she's especially anxious the mark will creep across her features, making her entire features become polar opposite as her eyes take on an eerie white meaning she needs to calm down or be lost within a few moments.

Honor Guard Lantern #4

Player Name: TheVillain

Character Name: Govets

Face Claim: Hrithik Roshan, though this may take a while to discover as his species traditionally wears full encounter suits.

Race: The Wotan, a mostly humanoid race of cybernetically-enhanced, encounter-suited Space-Nomads. Or Space-Pirates, depending on who you ask.

Gender: Male

Age: Late 20's, Low 30's equivalent.

Personality On the surface it seems like the ring made a mistake. Govets clearly isn't a Warrior - more like a Mathematician or an Engineer. Prone to technical jargon and a calm sort of calculation of risks before action, on the surface Govets seems like one of the last beings in the galaxy that should get a Green Lantern Ring even when you don't take his species into account. Hard-wired for a sort of selfish survivalism, it seems like he should be on the other end of a Green Lantern ring and yet when there's no other options he goes in without blinking.

History: Govets, of the Wotan Armada. Said to be the first Wotan to get the Ring, and for a good reason. The Wotan are by reputation an entire species of Space-Pirates and Scavengers, picking over the parts of the corpses of other ships without blinking an eye, and that's assuming they don't decide to help that along. Calling it an Armada isn't entirely accurate of course, that implies they all fly together. A loose confederation of smaller ship groups, sometimes even as small as individual passenger boats, these Vultures are in the opinion of many not worthy of the ring.

Though there is an interesting story. Supposedly the Wotan are so secretive that not even the Guardians of the Universe know where the Wotan home world is. It would make sense, not many beings in the universe can claim to have seen a Wotan without their encounter suit on, and Wotan do have taboos like not eating or sleeping around non-Wotan if they can avoid it. But it's not true of course, the Guardians know exactly where the Wotan home world was - Was being the important word there. The Wotan home world was actually destroyed thousands of years ago, back when a Wotan ship could barely make the trip between the planets in their own system. Yes, they are Scavangers and Pirates - because they have to be to survive. They're not even sure their species would even survive on a proper planet anymore, they've adapted and the Black Sea is their Home.

Govets of the Wotan Armada, the Son of a Chief Engineer-Priest and a Captain he grew up with the expectation to replace his father but his mother - the Captain of the Wotan Warship the Waeca. The Tragedy came from a Vesper attack on a Wotan Mothership, because when most species name something a Mothership they mean the kind of ship that leads into battle but for the Wotan they mean Mothership in a more literal sense. It's where they raise and train their children. The War between the 3rd Wotan Armada Fleet and the Vesper was pointless, but most Wars are. For Govets it was supposed to be one of his first commands, leading a boarding party attacking what their intelligence said was a Vesper Cruiser. Except their intelligence was wrong, it was a Cruise-Ship - a civilian craft with families.

It's been said that sometimes the braver thing to do is to *not* fight. Refusing to lead his party into committing a war crime, Govets instead fought to prevent civilian casualties on both sides. The Tragedy was almost compounded that day when the fighting aboard the Vesper Cruise-Ship damaged the Warp Core, and it took all of Govets talent for engineering to keep it together long enough to get everyone to evacuate. Wotan and Vesper alike.

He doesn't speak of it, but he was ready to die that day. It was a good death, buying time for civilians and families with children to make it to escape pods. And these were mostly Vesper, maybe it would finally end a stupid war. He expected to die that day, with the Will to hold that Warp Core together until that last possible second. That was what he thought would happen, he never calculated what happened next.

Govets of the Wotan Armada. You have the Ability to Overcome Great Fear. Welcome to the Green Lantern Corps.

Additional Abilities / Weaknesses: Like most Wotan, Govets does have several cybernetic enhancements throughout his body, mostly to interact with technology around him such as some implanted tools and survival gear. Govets also possesses and has held onto a traditional Wotan Encounter Suit, which automatically filters the environment around him and in an emergency will seal itself entirely. As such even without a ring Govets would survive in environments most organic beings would not for a respectable period of time, even the vacuum of space.

On the flipside, Govets's immune system is weaker then that of a normal humanoid. He also isn't much of a warrior, he can think in terms of tactics but its the tactics of a mathematician trying to fake being a warrior. It's more about spreadsheets then swords. Do something unexpected and he may need time to reformulate.

Skills: Govets is a talented engineer even by the standards of Wotan, for him jury-rigging machines together on the fly comes as natural as breathing. This has the unintended bonus of making his constructs more stable and durable, at least if he thinks they'd actually work if he actually built the device. He's also an experienced sailor on the space-ways and can navigate a galaxy-map like the best of them.

Fears: His machines failing, of the Wotan Armada running out of supplies, and he is a bit of a germaphone.

We do have enough to start and I'll be getting those posts up shortly, it'll stay open though for a bit but once things do get going I'll close it down as it wouldn't make a lot of sense that someone from their training class would join the ranks that late.

I mean, possibly could be recovering from an injury at Green Lantern boot camp but...what I am trying to say is if there is any further interest let me know either here or via PM. I'm happy to answer any questions you might have.
