As you know, I like to keep you all up-to-date with regard to rare elderly reptiles mating, so...

Lonesome George, the last Galápagos giant tortoise, may become a dad

As pointed out in the comments -- er, the comment -- following the article, the article itself incorrectly suggests that Lonesome George is the last remaining Galápagos giant tortoise.  If he were, who the heck would he be mating with?  A really desperate marine iguana?  An albatross?  Lonesome George is, rather, believed to be the last of a particular subspecies of the Galápagos giant tortoise.

Still, let's focus on the good here, shall we?  Best of luck to Lonesome George and his belle!

This link doesn't say anything about it, but iirc this is the turtle that was found to have a cyst growing on or near his genitals, and only once that cyst was removed did he start showing himself interested in the females.

Jag

I actually find this cute. ^^

I <3 turtles.

As Will said, "Go turtle buddy!"

Is that right, TevarTahalshia?  If so, that's interesting.  I wasn't able to find any information about it myself (although amusingly, I did discover that entering "'Lonesome George' cyst" into Google yields this very thread as its second result).  Is it possible that you're thinking of Henry the tuatara, who I mentioned in this thread?  He had a cancerous tumor removed from his "nether regions" and subsequently he got very funky indeed.

By the way, here's another neat picture of Lonesome George:

I'm glad that you enjoyed the story, everyone!  Thanks for the replies!
