The Motherland Calls

The inspiration.
The Americans may have ended WWII by the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, to many Europeans (and Russians) the pivotal point of the war was the Battle of Stalingrad, which led the destruction of Hitler's 6th army and allowing the Soviets to march into Europe. To remember the millions of casualties on the Soviet side, a monument was erected on the banks of the Volga river, the hurdle the Nazi's tried to take and failed. The center point of the monument, is the statue of a woman (the motherland) raising her sword towards the west, to the nazi attackers, and beckoning to the east, calling all abled bodies to defend the city and indeed the country. The Motherland Calls, rodina-mat' zovyot. And like my grandfather to this day is still adding to that line... i my otvetili, and we have answered.

The setting.
The world has come under attack. They came out of nowhere and it happened fast. Before the governments could give out warnings or send out troops, the casualty rate had soared to millions worldwide.  Countries slid into anarchy in mere hours and people who fell behind just disappeared.

Nobody know what they are, where they came from or how to fight them. Some say they are vulnerable to simple things as knifes and guns, others say nothing works against them.

After the initial onslaught, all over the world clusters of survivors begin to appear, trying to fight back and find a way to make earth their home again.

Our group starts off in the Russian capital, Moscow, during and right after the initial attack. A young naval lieutenant, played by me, in Moscow for the 9th of May celebrations is leading a group of survivors through Russia to safety. As she gathers more and more survivors, she realises that the world has changed and that the old rules and laws no longer apply.

As the group scrambles for safety, one night they hear a continuous broadcast on the old radio.

"We have weapons. We have food and shelter. Together, we can fight back and claim back our home. Rodina-Mat' zovyot! The Motherland Calls."

Cryptic for most, my character knows where they have to go and sets off with the group to meet the survivors.

Wow that sounds pretty great but what is it?
It is a semi post apocalyptic survival game. Initially everything will work as it did. Water continues to be pumped through the pipes, electricity will be on, etc, etc. Later on, more and more will shut down, leaving what's left of mankind struggling to survive.

Aww. So no smut then?
This is Elliquiy. Smut and sex is part of the game. Just keep it semi realistic. I will allow BDSM and stuff like that but again, realistic. The chances of you surviving, bound up, naked and led on a leash are slim to none. A man and a woman (or two men or two women) frustrated about the situation having hot steamy sex is completely fine. Dominant and submissive characters are fine but please, this is above all survival.

What am I looking for?
I'd like realistic and normal everyday characters. You can have a skill or two but nothing superman. Ideally I'd get around five players as we'll stay in a group. With enough interest we might make a second group. Along the way, we might lose some players but hopefully gain some as well.

I will be the GM, meaning that I will occasionally make small jumps in time to keep the pace going a bit.

Since we'll stay in a group, I'd like to ask at least 1 post a week (if we all agree on more, all the better). I will also keep the right to remove your character if you disappear without notice.

Why Russia and why Moscow?
Simple. I think Russia is an interesting setting compared to Europe or the US. Firstly because it's going to be very cold (the aliens attacked in winter). Secondly because the infrastructure isn't as good as in the afore mentioned regions, therefore making survival perhaps a bigger challenge. The cars though, are more robust and reliable. Moscow is the most international city in Russia and thus the most realistic place for international characters.

What are those damned aliens?
The aliens are creatures that need a human body as a host. Once they taken over the host, they drain the power if it's male and able to change into whatever form they wish. If it's female, the breed the life out of them in special places to reproduce.

They are not hyper intellectual or strong and can easily be killed by weapons. Their strength lies in numbers and they can blend in large groups because they can have a human appearance. I'm guessing their normal form is large, perhaps tentacled monstrosities. They have the ability to lure prey with pheromones etc.

I do like to stress out that the game is about survival. You won't get caught, unless you specifically want to but we'd have some serious plotting to do when that happens.

So, what else?
Nothing much really. Except for the fact that although it's mostly a free game, I will at times move the game forwards. This is to prevent dragging scenes out for too long.

If you are interested but unsure what to play, let me know and maybe I can help.

Out here in the fields, I fight for my meals and I get my back into my living.

I don't need to fight to prove I'm right and I don't need to be forgiven.

I'd like to plant some tentative interest in this!

Interested as well. Some great group game ideas here.

Dashenka

Good to have some interest already. I'll be back home in a few days. Until then, I'll leave the thread open :)

Hope you guys will stick around and that more will join in...

So I'm back and I'll set the right example by dropping my character sheet here. Hoping it will generate a bit more attention and interest. Please, if you are interested as well, put a (temporary if you wish) character sheet here..

Name: Alyona Kabayeva
Age: 29
Nationality: Russian
Occupation: Navy Lieutenant on the Baltic Fleet
Residence: St. Petersburg, staying in a hotel in the center of Moscow

Short description: Alyona comes from a normal family. She was born in the far east but signed up for the navy as both her brothers and father were also in the navy. Because of this, she was not allowed to join the Pacific fleet and instead got drafted for the Baltic Fleet. Although she had training, she has never been in a real fight before. The distance between her and her family means she doesn't see them a lot, something she has learned to live with but not always making it easier. Alyona is friendly and helpful but those colleagues that try to put her down because she is a woman, will soon learn she can hold her own. She doesn't have a boyfriend, saying that most boys would be scared off by her job but she has some friends with benefits.

There are no real future plans yet. The army is not her passion and she only enlisted because at the time, she felt her country was in need of her services. Her hobbies consist of dancing and drawing.

I like this kind of group games so I'd like to propose my character.

Name: Hikari Mishigami
Age: 21
Nationality: Kyoto, Japan
Occupation: College exchange student, part time martial arts instructor
Residence: Lomonosov Moscow State University dormitory

Short description: Hikari is living on a 1 year visa in Russia as an exchange student to learn the culture and history, and provide her expertise with the katana and Japanese martial arts to students at the university. She is extremely agile and great at using her katana, as well as hand to hand combat. She is a natural survivalist and can adapt quickly to new situations. However she is socially awkward and is not easy to get along with. She also has no training with any range attacks, and doesn't know Moscow or Russia very well, being a foreigner. She is bi although her studies has kept her from pursuing any romantic interest.

Sounds like a fun time, surviving and escaping from  alien swarms like that!
i'd love to join, if you'll have me :)

Name: Pièrre Dumoins
Age: 26
Nationality: Lille, France
b]Occupation:[/b] Academic researcher for a French think tank focused on modern history
Residence: Hotel in St. Petersburg, a 20 minute walk from the Russian State Historical Archive in St-Petersburg

Short description: Pièrre has spent his years at different schools and lycées, eventually graduating with honors. Failing to score a paid position to get his doctorate, he had to look for other methods. In the hope for getting even the minimum of funding, he responded to a contest held by an independent institution. He got second place and while the reward for first place was taken away by someone else, Pièrre was offered an offering at his current work as a researcher to pump out articles. He was sent to St-Petersburg to focus on Russian military history. While working closely with a translator over the past 4 months, he has picked up some Russian, both written and spoken, though his accent his terrible.

Like most historians, Pièrre is a massive nerd that rarely comes out of the house outside of work. This has caused him to have a slightly weaker constitution or toughness compared to most adults of his age. His only real hobby outside of the house, which is the only reason he leaves besides work and groceries, is shooting. As a teen, he was obsessed with firearms from video games. As an adult, he got his license to carry and operate fire arms. While not allowed to take any firearms with him to Russia, he has spent some time in gun ranges there together with his appointed translator.

Because of his sheltered life as a nerd and an academic, he spent most of his life with male friends and has almost crippling anxiety when talking to women. He becomes very shy and stutters in normal situations, though once he begins to explain something he can lose himself in it as well as the stutter and regain his confidence. He is a calm and docile person, managing to stay calm under pressure or panic though he's a terrible leader.
He who acts honestly, hardly ever meets with trouble,
he who speaks honestly, hardly ever escapes trouble.

Okay....

So I only have so much room in my rp's and this one captures my interest WAY more than Hatley....so I'm switching games. I hope that is okay. I set a limit so I can respond quicker and better attention. I will work on this sheet today.

Amarlo

Seduce my mind and my body will follow.

Dashenka

I have three characters so far, my own included, Amarlo and Emi (or others) will join as well, I will start it off.
Out here in the fields, I fight for my meals and I get my back into my living.

I don't need to fight to prove I'm right and I don't need to be forgiven.

Snake

I'm interested,   it would a surviving spetsnaz trooper be acceptable?

Dashenka

If he was military then yes, not the police...
He could be on the military parade, like my character?

Don't make him too powerful though. I don't want any superpower people :)

Snake

Spetsnaz guys are like the wetworks specialists for the Russian military. They could've fought back but mine got separated from unit and trapped somewhere and was hidden which is the only way they survived the invasion. But they're busy hardened soldiers really.

Dashenka

I know Spetsnaz :) I'm Russian.

Just saying that I don't want superman who kills three aliens in 1 second, blows up ten other with a landmine all while carrying four women on his shoulders :)

Snake

Did not know that. Cool!

Well the first one maybe happened but no carrying four women. :p I'd play a female one but spetsnaz are all male.

Wicked Emi

Name: Payton Wade
Age: 24
Nationality: American, really from everywhere
Occupation: Waitress, trying to get away from her past life
Residence: Was actually at a friends house trying to restart in Moscow

Short description: Payton comes from a single mother household, which by itself is not a bad thing, except that her mother was a 'dancer' that owed some interesting people a lot of money. At the age of 15, her mother did something very stupid and lost her daughter to a local thug who then took Payton as payment. The thug promised her that she would never be used for sex or pimped out because she had better plans for the skinny girl. She was then taught to pick-pocket, pick-lock, get into places she never belonged, smooth talk her way in or out of anything, and really just become a secrete agent in the other local gangs. Because of this, Payton basically never trusts anyone or really shares her true emotions on anything. No matter what, she is a sarcastic girl with sexual energy to spare. However, she is very resourceful and a decent enough soldier because she is used to following directions.

Likes: Chocolate, handcuffs, joking around, dancing, and dares.

Dislikes: Super serious people, onions, vanilla sex, and being cold.
