If you're like me, you're kind of leery about installing all of the big three messenger clients. One alternative (besides using one all inclusive client) is to use their web based versions. I know both AIM and Yahoo have web based versions, don't know about MSN Messenger. While you would still have to sign up for an account, you don't have to download and install the client program. This would work especially well for those who rely on college library/lab computers and what not.

AIM: http://download.aim.com/client/express
Yahoo: http://webmessenger.yahoo.com/

Its an option at least, if not the only one.

I like ebuddy.com you can access the big three messengers and some of the smaller ones in one browser and have all your accounts open at once.

I find playing games pretty hard on any of the web messengers cause logging is either non existant or a pain. Out of all inclusive ones, Pidgin is quite awesome. Specially since you can get dice roller as add-on :)

There is one for MSN, I found it once, but can't seem to find it again - and from what I remember, it was rubbish anyway, even worse than MSN usually is.

I've tried Trillian, Digsby and Pidgin.....and I really didn't like any of them.  I guess I'm a creature of habit, but I much prefer YIM.  I just couldn't get used to the other ones.
