Rise of the Ancestors

The noble Derivalle line is ancient and powerful; it's origins are lost in time but rumors speak of kindly dragons or dark goddesses.  The line has held many titles: knights, counts, advisors, generals, even a few kings and queens.  Others have been more humble.  Some have been benevolent: pious and selfless, bringing knowledge and wealth to the people.  Some have ground those peasants beneath their heel.

You are part of this House's story.  A hero; a servant; even a forgotten link in the chain.  You have served to make Derivalle great and sworn yourself to eternal loyalty.  You have served, and you have perished: in war, in bed, perhaps executed by those you ruled.  Death has been long and cold, although it passed like a dream.  But now you have awoken, called to protect the last of your line in their direst hour, your oath still binding you to the House.  Your legacy hangs in the balance.

A one shot adventure for a small group of third level adventurers, bound together to achieve a single purpose.  You will all be returned from the grave, which will have some minor effect (read: a selection of custom campaign traits) but otherwise normal characters.  However, the driving sense of loyalty and purpose means this is open to a variety of alignments and classes: antipaladins and priests may well rub elbows in firm alliance.  Applications would need a firm sense of concept and their characters history (and again, while all now the same level, there may be a chambermaid imbued with ghostly power next to a legendary warrior who is a mere shade of his former glory).

Interest?  Suggestions?  Questions?

Curious what you mean with that. Especially the history.
Is this based story to read up on this or is it about actual history?
Guess it could also mean backstory for the characters?

So we're not undead. Third level... so we were like, helpers or side characters to heroes in the past? Like party members that got offed?
The devil in detail is in the details.

National Acrobat

I already have an idea for a vengeful squire that was left to die by the knight he was assigned to when the going got rough and the knight's cowardly instincts took over...

Updated; I meant their characters history.  Who they were, what they did, how they died.  Character background is important to me.

Not necessarily undead.  There will be options there with at least a couple traits.

As mentioned, you could be an epic hero that killed gods in your life, but the part of you that came back is only a fraction of that power.

So former badasses who get depowered during ressurection and were called to help last of the lineage which all chars share and may not had lived in same era neccesary. Would GM char be said 'ghostly chambermaid' then ;) ?

As I understand this was meant to stress that no matter how mighty your character was, there might be another pc who's job was to empty the bedpens being equally strong.

Damn...now i kind of want to make that character, then again Paladin who lost his power due to becoming a vile undead might be fun too.
