Nancy Pelosi did the bare minimum in regards to Trump's racist tweets about the four congresswomen. Despite this, it made the House break out into a verbal battle. She condemned Trump's tweets and called them racist as speaker and was called to be out of order. People abandoned their chairs, there were rushed votes, it is an entire mess. It does help illustrate the party lines, and how Republicans are willing to defend anything Trump does. The Democrats also voted along party lines in this instance which shows the power they hold if they decide to use it. It is considered a bit of an emergency and Trump has cancelled meetings to deal with this.

Skynet

I recall Andrew Breitbart once said that being called a racist is one of the worst things that can happen to a person, and that the First Amendment should prevent others from calling someone that. Republicans are like that loud obnoxious dude at a party who starts screaming when someone politely asks them to calm down.

Tolvo

People treat a lot of labels like insults. Calling someone a racist is a mark on their character, but it's not the same as calling them stupid. It's more a claim about their character. Though I personally find it better to claim a specific act/event is racist. It's hard to claim a person is racist, it's easier to point out what they said/did is racist.

Also the final vote is in, the House officially condemns and labels as racist the remarks of President Donald J Trump. 4 Republicans and 1 independent(A former Republican) also voted to condemn his remarks. The Democrats unanimously condemned him.

NBC found in its archives footage from 1992 of Trump partying with Jeffrey Epstein, who he claimed to dislike and not have much connection to, where Trump is introducing him to girls and talking about them and their bodies. He seems to be pointing out girls to Epstein. All at Mar-A-Lago.

Same attitude of "grabbing them by the p***ies" in both men, perhaps?

https://www.cnbc.com/2019/07/17/house-votes-on-donald-trump-impeachment-despite-nancy-pelosi-opposition.html

The House voted with a majority to shelf impeachment proceedings for Trump, despite Dem majority. I kind of expected this given how they're waiting for further from Mueller even though you possibly could impeach him now with the momentum there is and given his long history of breaking federal laws and doing acts that precedents have set would call for impeachment.

Attorney General Barr and Commerce Chief Ross have been found in contempt, with charges of false testimony to congress and withholding subpoenaed records and information. As far as I know the final part of this though has to be signed off by Barr's office, so who knows if anything will be done.

It seems like a sound strategy at this point, not to launch impeachment proceedings for now, as the chances of actually getting anywhere on that avenue and removing him are very low - as long as there are not a decent number of republican senators who would agree to vote against him. The main thing that would happen by starting the process now would be that it fails and the anti-Trump "movement" would lose momentum.

I absolutely understand the hunger to have Trump impeached or kicked out some other way, but going down that route too soon could blunt the whole thing and cast democrats in a worse light to many ordinary voters.

Before going to his current rally Trump repeated when asked by a reporter about the false claim that Ilhan Omar married her brother to illegally immigrate into America that it was a fact that she did, and said he knows little about it but that someone will likely be looking into it.

Not sure really on specifics. Trump uses lots of things illegally and makes lots of slanderous remarks. But he's the President and this isn't the UK where they tend to be stricter about that. At his rally he's continued, there's been chants about forcibly deporting the four congresswomen, how Trump can't pronounce their names and things its insulting to ask him to, calls for the congresswomen to be tried as treasonous, he repeated the incest lie, claimed Ilhan Omar supported ISIS and Al Qaeda, etc. He called Warren Pocahontas and said he'd be calling her that more again. Also he openly said the word bullshit which some people are mad about for him having broadcast on national television though I don't really care about swears personally.

It seems like he's trying to paint a literal target on the four congresswomen, these aren't just smears, his accusations are the sorts of things people get assassinated over. Hopefully the four of them especially Ilhan Omar have good security and hopefully we won't see the president's call to action answered.

It's become really obvious that Trump is actively pandering to racism, and quite comfortable with such ideas and acts himself - not that it was any secret beforehand. :(

It was announced that the investigations into Trump and his organization had ended and that they were exonerated regarding campaign finances being used to silence Stormy Daniels. However people have now looked at the unsealed documents which seem to have very strong evidence that Trump himself was directly involved with the hush money and indeed gave the order.

https://thehill.com/homenews/house/453740-omar-stops-traffic-with-impromptu-news-conference-blasting-trump

Ilhan Omar spoke about how she fears not for her own safety but for the safety of everyone else who shares her identities. She described Trump openly on the spot as racist and a fascist, which he is the textbook definition of a fascist which is essentially an ideology built upon the idea of a national and racial identity that is heavily linked with a totalitarian government that is against democracy and uses violence and marginalization to rule its people( https://www.britannica.com/topic/fascism/Volksgemeinschaft more here if you'd like a simple rundown of what fascism is since I know many do not know what fascism actually is), when she was followed by a group of reporters in the streets.

Trump has now said he disavows the "Send her back!" chants that he called for at his rally, even though they're repeating what he said and he didn't stop them as they were happening and basked in them.

https://www.huffpost.com/entry/fascist-trump-rally-greenville-ilhan-omar-send-her-back_n_5d30529fe4b0419fd328b270

Huffpost interviewed multiple scholars and experts on fascism and its history who stated this was an escalation in America becoming more fascist and who stated plainly that was a fascist rally and that we are likely in a critical stage. They interviewed rally attendees who were generally violent and racist and xenophobic, a police officer there threatened to remove the Huffpost reporter as attendees had reported them claiming they were harassing people by asking questions about Trump, and Trump directed further hatred of journalists viewing them as the enemy which riled up the crowd massively. Support for the Qanon conspiracy was there as usual.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/?utm_term=.cc91f09668cf

CNN has every now and then brought on a "random" group of Republican women to get their views on Trump. However these women are actually a part of a Pro-Trump group that do media interviews. The group is called Trumpettes of America that intentionally do this, CNN has had them on multiple times labeling them just as random Republican women, they are brought out whenever Trump does something that targets women especially to then say "No we are women we see nothing wrong with this."

This backlash has come on the back of it being noted that Jake Tapper has repeatedly targeted antifascist groups when reporting for CNN including at Charlottesville where the reported that antifascists were the real enemy there, then went on to bring Richard Spencer on his show as an expert on White Nationalist views. Richard Spencer being a Neo Nazi leader.

Mechelle

For an international perspective, I will say that I have never seen Piers Morgan be so critical of Donald Trump. Besides being one of the few people Trump follows on twitter, Morgan is usually slavish in his adoration of his former colleague on the Apprentice (although, following England's World Cup cricket victory over New Zealand, he has directed that fawning adoration to star player Ben Stokes), but he has unequivocally called out his remarks against "the Squad" as racist in the Daily Mail.

Unfortunately, being Piers Morgan, he follows that up with some scurrilous remarks about Ilhan Omar, and then makes it about himself and the threats he received in the US, but it's much more critical than any thing uttered by Boris Johnson. It might even have an effect on Trump, coming from one of his loyal friends.

They're the sort of statements Piers normally makes, what Trump said that is. Far right white supremacists are somewhat calling out the words as questionable despite them already calling for genocide, calling for their ethnostates(Which can only be accomplished through genocide), their calls to divide and hate one another. Ben Shapiro did the same as he called this out while previously he has laughed at violence against left wing people and called for the extermination of all Palestinians. Mark Walsh said if Hillary won that they should storm the capital and install Trump as president and has routinely called for violence against people of color, yet he's now called this out. And many of their base are devouring them for betraying Trump since this is who they are already.

A couple of things that have crossed my feed today.

Trump Was Surprised That An Iraqi Woman Won The Nobel, Asks Where Her Dead Family Is Now N&G is run by Dan Rather.  Trump had a meeting at the WH this week with victims of religious persecution.  In addition to the title incident, when asked by a man what he planned to do about the genocide in Myanmar, Trump responded 'Where is that?' - and someone next to him said it was 'next to Burma'  (Myanmar was called Burma until 1989.)

Oh, goodness. I know these people are idiots, but at times I'm still surprised. Trump, I have no doubt, knows nothing about the world, but to have an aide say 'next to Burma' is just stupidly shocking. (When, as you say, they are the same country.)

The second part is alarming. It's a conference on revaluing what is considered a 'right,' which should make anyone's guts churn. This is the sort of thing that codifies extremely bad actions down the line.

People are getting ready for the Mueller Hearings this coming Wednesday which will be done to help highlight the severity of Trump's corruption and is there to help people who don't wish to read a report have a way to watch it instead. Honestly that seems pretty smart, many people struggle to engage with a large document and this makes it easier to show clips rather than ask someone to read it when they won't. It won't get everyone of course but it might help those detached from it all engage with it on a medium they connect to better.

Not sure about all Representatives, but those on the related committees do. Barr has been breaking precedent and rule, possibly even law, left and right in order to save his master.
