Some say they don't make them like they used to.  Some disagree, but whatever the case, regardless of our ages, we all have video games that will always hold a special place in our hearts and memories.

I could go on and on, but I'll just name a few from the "older days" that I'll always remember fondly.

1.  The Legend of Zelda - The first and second ones for the NES.  I have to say I probably enjoyed 2 better than one, but no Zelda game to this day has quite captured the magic of those first two games.

2.  Metroid - Despite hours of frustration, this is in my opinion one of the golden classics.  Tons of weapon upgrades and a long amount of gameplay made this a gem.

3.  Ultima 7-Ultima 9 - Man, I can't tell you how much fun I had with Ultima games (this was before Ultima Online).  7 was awesome and 7 part 2 was even better.  8 introduced elements like live action voice overs that was pretty cutting edge for it's time.  9 had a lot of bugs but I got to play the Avatar in a fully 3D Brittania for the first time ever.

4.  The Quest For Glory Series - Put out by Sierra Games, these were point and click games with great stories and just the right hint of humor (Gnomish 'good humor bar', I'm looking at you).  Plus it was awesome that you could bring your old character from previous games into the newer ones.

5.  The Leisure Suit Larry Series - Everything from Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards, Passionate Patty in Pursuit of the Pulsating Pectorals to Love for Sail... the recent games in this series weren't so great, though (in my opinion).  They were "adult" games that weren't pornographic... just dirty with a touch of humor that I loved.  Yeah, I probably shouldn't have been playing these games when I was underaged, but I'm sure I wasn't the only one.   ;)

I'd love to hear about others' nostalgia.  :-)

Oh dude, I have to send you Spoony's Ultima Retrospective x3 you'll get more out of it then I did. Let's just say, his tagline for the U9 review is 'Betrayal'.

Oniya

Let's see - I have a soft spot for the old Infocom text games (I grew up with an Apple ][+ - we didn't have many games) and the original Lemmings.

I've recently been replaying the very first Might and Magic title (almost have all of the overworld explored!) and plan to go on with those titles as long as my machine will cope.

Um - anyone remember Lode Runner (Broderbund) and Jumpman (Epyx)?

I think I had Lode Runner...

Nostalgia don't seem to work on me, though. I remember, vaguely, games I would play on the Sega Master System (Genesis for you barbarians in America) and the Nintendo 64, but every time I've gone and tracked those games down, they don't have any mystical curtain about them. I tend to judge them the same as if I just now discovered them.

And they don't do well xD Maybe it's because back then I was just a little kid hammering at buttons until the sheer amount of attempts dictated that I make some kind of progress on pure chance. My actually substantial experiences (when I started playing for real) started with the Xbox. So maybe that's conditioned me towards modern gaming in the same way people can get rose tinted glasses for the older stuff.

Chris Brady

I don't have nostalgia.

I mean, yes, some old games were hella fun!  Supermetroid, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 2 (AKA FF4 in Japan), Final Fantasy 3 (AKA 6...), Blaster Master...

But really?  The technology has gotten so much better, and no longer do or can they have to rely on high difficulty curves to keep you playing longer than the game actually lasts (For example, Blaster Master takes no more than an hour if you don't die.)

But let's face it, the old games got us here, and we should honour them by playing them from time to time.

And so, I'm going to play Legend of Zelda: Link to The Past again.  And maybe a little Chrono Trigger again.
My O&Os Peruse at your doom.

So I make a A&A thread but do I put it here?  No.  Of course not.

Also, I now come with Kung-Fu Blog action.  Here:  Where I talk about comics and all sorts of gaming

TentacleFan

Older games I really loved? I can think of some that I really have fond memories of to this day. I do think there are good and bad games today and there were good and bad games then too. It's just that the ones that were great tend to be the ones that get remembered.

TFan's Old School List

Final Fantasy (1, also 2 (Japan's 4) and 3 (Japan's 6) - Is what made me love RPGs and helped grow my love of Fantasy
Various Quest Games (Sierra) Police Quest, King's Quest, Quest For Glory, among others. - Great Humor and Just a lot of fond memories trying all sorts of things.
Megaman & Megaman 2 - Tough but fun with lots of weapon possibilities from the bosses weapons you'd acquire.
Super Mario Bros. 3 (Could probably include Super Mario World in there as well. - I'm not really a Nintendo fan these days but back then I loved these games.
Street Fighter 2 - Gave me a love of fighting games that continues to this day whether I'm good at them or not.

I could probably list a bunch more but these are some of the first to come to mind.

I'm going to take my time. I have all the time in the world. To make you mine. It is written in the stars above.

Nice to see that there are some other Spoony fans in here! :D

I played a lot of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 when I was a kid. I got a total nostalgia slap in the face when Sonic 4 came out and it had a lot of the same elements and bosses as back then.

Pokemon is also another big one. Sometimes the smell of Fall triggers a thought or two of the old games as I played them a lot outside during that time.

There is also a little-known game that I remember being one of my favorites for the NES. It was called Videomation. You could draw and animate things and it was fantastic. Probably the first drawing program of it's kind. At least that I played. :)

The old Apple green-screener games also poke at my nostalgia, but not enough that I can remember their names, sadly enough. I think I remember enjoying the original Math Munchers. *laughs*

I never got into video games with people in them but my brother had an Atari I played with that got me addicted to Break Out and Pong and Space Invaders.  Later on I found Magic Ball a more complex block breaking game.  It was on a computer that died and I couldn't rescue it but last month I found it online and downloaded it and I'm in heaven.

I am a sucker for nostalgia.  ;D

The Super Mario Bros. games were great, especially the first and third in the series. Spent a lot of hours playing it on the good old Nintendo. :-) The Tex Murphy games were great, and still are. Thanks to GOG.com I can still play them. The Pandora Directive is an amazing game, pure and simple. Also, the early versions of Football Manager/Championship Manager. Spent a lot of time on those, especially the 97/98-season. Also, a text based manager gamed we just called Pcliga was great. You couldn't get much more basic, but still loads of fun. And Winter Games of course, the Summer Games as well, great fun.

Aaah, nostalgia.  :D

Teo Torriatte

My first videogame memories were on the Atari 2600 (yes I'm ancient lol). I remember playing stripped down versions of Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Jungle Hunt, among other arcade classics and loving every minute of them.

Next was Commie 64, where I was floored with Defender of the Crown, and more than amused with this little game called Forbidden Forest... *giggles* it was the first overtly violent game I played, and it was so gruesome it was hilarious. And the music was epic. Games like Neuromancer and Impossible Mission("Stay awhile... staaaay foreeeever!") rounded out that era for me.

Then with the SNES I was introduced to the awesomeness that is the classic JRPG. And yes, they really DON'T make them like they used to. Final Fantasy 4 and 6(2 and 3 in the west, at the time), Chrono Trigger, Illusion of Gaia, Secret of Mana... my goodness those were some good years of gaming. I am still trying to forget Secret of Evermore, though. *shudders*

I guess the last era I would consider as more nostalgia than modern gaming would be the early 3D consoles, such as N64 and PS1. And the Sega Saturn, although the 3D was meh at best, it had some of the best games of the time, imo. Panzer Dragoon Saga, Dragon Force, Astal, Virtua Fighter 2, Fighters Megamix, Guardian Heroes... I really could go on, and that was just the Saturn. Twisted Metal blew me away at the time on PS1, as well as Suikoden 1 because of the music, and Wild Arms 1 as the first rpg with 3D battles(nope it wasn't FF7 lol). WA1 had an amazingly awesome anime intro as well.

Damn... I could probably go on but that's enough nostalgia-gasming from me for the time being, lol.

Oniya

I remember Secret of Mana!  Fat, bouncing bunnies that would bite your head!

Rabites! *gigges* Yes that was definitely one of my favorites, as well.

Now I'm remembering another one - Illusion of Gaia.  Probably the first video game to bring Angkor Wat to the awareness of Americans.

Landstalker for Sega Genesis.

I LOVED this game when I was growing up. I have scarcely met people who even know what it is. Which is sad, because I think it was one of the best games on the system. The opening sequence and the music when you wander around the large tree that becomes a dungeon later totally brings back a wave of nostalgia.

It was the place where the enemies had heads that would raise up on long necks when they were about to fire at you.  Never saw the sequel, but from your description, I think that's a good thing.

I don't believe it was ever released in North America. I only learned of it years later through the magical wonders of emulations. But it just has this really depressing ambiance... the world feels really empty to begin with, then on top of that, in the opening moments of the game, the main character screws up and unleashes something that freezes everyone else in place, leaving him truly alone in the whole world. Gah... so depressing, lol...

Koren

I have such weird nostalgia for games. Most of mine were more common, and concidering I've recently definitely gotten back into retro gaming and all of that its more nostagia I had as opposed to have but I've just got a few games that I remember so well
That and the fact that only being young compared to most on this site, and my first console being a playstation 1, a lot of my games are more new, and not so much the arcade style that a lot of others know.

Tomb Raider
The original tomb raider was brillant. Before she had the big boobs, and the long hair, when she was an explorer not a sex symbol. The mechanics were amazing and genuine puzzles that actually were fun and difficult to solve. That and the first level with that damn bear that still scares the shit out of me every single time in the village. Ah, good old memories. That and the fact that I loved, LOVED the tile based platforming. Platforming today is way to leaniant and easy, and studying game design I realise just how much effort went into the mechanics of tomb raider and fine tuning them to such a degree. Getting all the secrets in place and having such open wild levels so easy to follow through. Really it is just a magnificent game and still a massive challenge to date.

Croc: Legend of the Gobbos
A kids game but DAMN it was so much fun. The funny thing is it has the exact same mechanics as tomb raider, just simplied for kids, but damn it was just as hard. We were talking about it at uni today and I swear anyone that had played that game remembers the tune for the twisty tunnels, and I played it and half my uni (mostly 19-25 year olds) were whistling away to it in joy. Love that damn crocodile. (That and the fact that I actually still have my original playstation 1 disk for this and tomb raider)

Abe's Odessy
The only thing I can say about this is after all these years I still know every single one of the sound effects and little things he said and enjoy mimicing them A LOT.

Metal Gear Solid
I think this one kinda goes without saying for those who played it. Psycho Mantis.
If theres one thing the metal gear series did perfect it was its boss battles
Off topic but im curious if anyone here played MGS3, and what they thought of the boss battle of The End?

Thats all I can think of for now but I'm sure I'll be going through something one day and find something and it will trigger my memories of something else i playe dand loved

I completely agree. You can't imagine how sad I was when they stopped making Final Fantasy a turn-based RPG. I loved everything about it before that time. Aside from some of the stories; but that's for a different thread. :P

Other than Pokemon, which can scarcely be considered the same kind of RPG let's say... As Final Fantasy VII; I don't see a lot of really awesome turn-based RPGs.

Part of the issue with turn based games, especially fantasy based ones, we're in the animations.  And especially the 32 bit and later eras.  If you had a fighter you pushed a button and they went dashing in with a single slash and jumped back.  But once your Mage/Summoner/Attack Cleric was up, you pushed the button, and suddenly lights flash, beautiful colours and sparkles, or a bunch of other special effects go off for maybe up to a minute or two, and the you're back to the Fighter(s).  Push a button, watch it slash, end of turn.

And that's just the players' side, some monsters, most notably the bosses had their own suite of glowies and sparkles.

ahhh....those were the days...

It took me a while to appreciate turn-based games. I love them, though I always preferred the ones with monsters you could SEE. Those random battles and high encounter rates feel too much like customer service :P

Arohk

About the turn-based- definitely. I mean, look at FFVIII with all of those damnable unskippable summon scenes. I appreciate what they did, and I know it was hard to come up with that but good God. I remember getting so frustrated with them that I started to boycott summoning them. XD

Another one which wasn't really all that popular but I played quite a bit when I was young was Worms. And Roller Coaster Tycoon. I loved both of those to death before.

More and more keep coming back to me thanks to me thinking about this thread. It's awesome. 8D

Actually one thing that I miss with the old games was the creativity

Mortal Kombat for example having video captured fights imported in with spirtes and claymation. That was just awesome and so clever for back then. i like stuff like that, when they actually think and dont just go for the obvious route and style.
Space Invaders being the first to impliment music and continuous sound for example

Let's see - I have a soft spot for the old Infocom text games (I grew up with an Apple ][+ - we didn't have many games) and the original Lemmings.

Oh yes, from Zork to Bureacracy :) I think the best game purchase I ever made was Activision "Complete Infocom" Set.

And HGttG was just awesome.

I do remember Jumpman and Lode Runner as well, I played the crap out of both of those on my Commie 64.

Anyone remember Karateka? What about Prince of Persia? And following that vein, two of my favorite games derived from those were Out of this World(Another World to people outside of NA) and Flashback.

I love Maniac Mansion. Moreso as an adult than I did as a kid though :P

I read about the NES version in Nintendo Power. That weekend (I think I was 8 years old at the time,) my parents let me pick a game to rent from Blockbuster... I wanted to try Castelvania III, but they were out of it. So, I picked Maniac Mansion, and...

I had no idea what the hell I was doing. I was more clueless than Paris Hilton at a turntable! More frustrated than John Frusciante playing the intro to one his band's best songs that he inexplicably hates.

Many, many years later I played the Adventure Game Studio remake and thought "Ohhh, so THAT's what I was supposed to be doing."

Zorak

Once video games required more than one joystick and 2 buttons, I gave up...

I'm an 8-bit gamer I suppose... once the concept of a "combo move" occurs, I'm completely lost.

I DO, however, have an atari style "controller" that has a few of the 2600 games built into - my nephews, with their Nintendo NESs and iPods and X-Boxes can't even BEGIN to figure out how to kill the dragon in "Adventure", or even get past 1 level Super Breakout ... and that DOES make me feel a little better.

Our games many not have been as slick looking as the ones today, but HELL they were damned hard!

Koren

This is a weird one but I remembered it today

While it may not be quite as old as some of the other games listed here, I recently went through my old game CDs and loaded up Beyond Good & Evil. Vastly under-appreciated (I refuse to say under-rated, as it got many good reviews, its just not many actually bought it). Its nothing overly hard or complicated, just a lot of different elements blended together in just the right fashion to make a good adventure-ish sort of game. The soundtrack is amazing and just... yeah.

Jag

First game I ever played was at my Grandma's house. She has been basically locked in her house for as long as I could remember because of disabilities. Other than being an awesome grandmother, the one thing I can remember her being is a kick-ass video gamer. She always has the newest games and the newest consoles. She has played on pretty much every system that has ever come out. For Christmas every year, I could always expect at least one game and a system from her. When she decided I was old enough to hold a controller, she put me in front of her NES and turned on the original Castlevania game for me.

That game will always hold a special place in my heart. My Grandma sitting next to me on her bed while I button smashed my way through the castle. Her laughing when I would get so excited about killing the lowest level of monsters.

As I got older, she gave me more complex games. I even helped her make a homemade strategy guide for Dark Cloud when it first came out. I went over to her house almost every day for months just so we could see how many weapons we could make for each character, make little maps of the different ways the towns could be arranged, what arrangement of the towns got you rewards, the best places to level weapons, etc...I think she still has that little guide we made sitting in her closet somewhere. It's huge. Like several giant binders full of papers.

Ah memories...

My spouse just upgraded his phone, and gave me the Xperia Play he already had, which I had been coveting for emulators. I've spent the whole time since he gave it to me playing Mario RPG.

There's a game I can't remember the title to that's driving me nuts. Does anyone recognize the game? It was a PC game, came on a ridiculous number of floppies (I think like 6), back in the days when instead of DRM, when we started the game it would ask us for a random word on a random page in the manual to make sure we'd bought the game.

The basic plot was a person inherits a mansion, I think from an uncle, and it turns out to be evil and full of demons. Now the basic beginning of the plot is reminding me of Eternal Darkness on the Gamecube. Anyway. It was in first person view, and I recall there was a part further on in the game where you get into a portal in the basement and you're attacked by Mind Flayers.

I've been trying to call the name of this game forever.

ANYHOO. We were a Nintendo family. Got the NES back when they were still being sold, and the SNES a few years later. When my brother and I got older, we got pretty into collecting video games for a while, but sadly, most of it ended up sold off because life doesn't like us to have a video game collection. I kept some of the rarer/better stuff, though.

I liked Pawn takes Knight too... they fight spear & sword, then the pawn takes the but of his spear and slams it into the Knight's foot ... he starts hopping up and down and the pawn clocks him over the head !

Saw this topic and just had to respond.  I was actually digging through some old NES games the other day looking for a few oldies but goodies :)

Maniac Mansion -   This game is an absolute classic, even though a lot of people don't know about it.  I always though it was very humorous and detailed for its time.  And really fun, given that it's a point-and-click variety!  I also loved that it had so many different endings available in a time when there was usually only a linear playthrough.  Your character choices in the very beginning determined so many things throughout.

Metal Gear Solid - I have to go here, though its not an original sort of choice for a classic.  Lots of people love the MGS franchise.  It was one of the first games that I played and beat (numerous times) and really what got me into gaming.  I mean, c'mon, a cardboard box?  Who knew that was going to be epic awesome? ;)

Donkey Kong SNES -   That who series for SNES was way ahead of its time.  The graphics were there, the detail was there, the character and plot was great!  There are times when I go back and play this game just to remember the good times.  And it still rivals some newere games that have come out.  I've not played the Wii version of DK yet, but all the others that came out after the SNES had gone just couldn't capture the right flavor for me.

And speaking of nostalgia: I wonder if anyone remembers Knight Lore? Or Gun Fright? Or Three Weeks In Paradise? Now these were cool 8-bit games  ;D

Moving forward to more modern games, I absolutely loved the original Alone In The Dark, as well as Infogrames' other Lovecraft game, Shadow Of The Comet. I grew up with games like Dune 2, Command & Conquer, Warcraft 2 and Daggerfall ( Now that I list them like that, it's a wonder I turned out even remotely okay ;D ) but those games are all quite close to the PS1 / N64 generation of consoles, which I think in some ways marks the beginning of modern games.

Before that, however, we had a Sega Master System. I used to love the Asterix game for that, and also games like Altered Beast and Taz-Mania. And ... SpellCaster! That's the game! I could never figure that one out. Which really is no wonder at all, considering I must've been something like 4 years old when I played these games.

Mm hmm definitely. I overlooked it at first, because you play a set character, but the story and characters are truly amazing. I never did finish it, tho. I have a problem actually staying interested in a game long enough to finish it, heh.

I'm very sad that they don't really make turn based RPGs anymore.  Everything is real time... blech.

You might like the Grandia series. Can't speak for Grandia 1, but 2 and 3 are very clever real time/turn based hybrids.

Hah!  What a fantastic topic.  I love talking to a few buddies at work about the old games.  I was never big on console games, though I did play some.  The older games that I was always more excited about and enjoyed more of would have to be my old computer games.  In no particular order, here are a few.

Seven Kingdoms:  This is a real time strategy game that I used to play every day after school and I loved it.  I even had a windows 98 computer built for me so I could run this game without issues.  The computer eventually crapped out for reasons I do not recall.  The game involved seven different races that you could choose to play as and involved resource management, trading, diplomacy and subterfuge.  It was pretty involved and even had a great musical score and monsters to slay, huzza!

Sea Dogs:  My favorite pirate sim ever.  The ships and water looked beautiful, the trading aspect was great.  The game had some minor glitches and there were some issues with the flow of the roleplay stories involved, but I could just sail about trading and taking vessels.

Thief: The Dark project:  My favorite first person stealth based game ever.  You were a thief and went on stealing things and the sequal was just as good.  Story was great and surprising, graphics at the time were excellent and the game even had some humor in it.

Might and Magic:  I simply loved exploring the massive maps with all of the monsters and hidden things to interact with.....such a fun game.

Anyone play these and enjoy them as well?  Hahaha, I remember reading a gaming magazine and seeing a full two-page screen shot that was printed as an add for the brand new Age of Empires series.  I was so excited. hahahaha.

I'm currently working my way through the original, then on to the rest of the series.  Mr. Oniya is jealous because it won't work on Windows 7. ;D

I have been debating having another '98 computer built for me and raiding ebay for some old games.  They're just so much fun!

www.GoG.com (Also known as Good Old Games) probably has a functioning copy, and it's likely to be reasonably cheap.  No more than 10 bucks (guessing.)  They specialize in updating old games so that they work with new code, including old DOS based games.

I'm upgraded as far as XP - wasn't about to go Vista, and then found out that certain programs I have won't work on Win7, so I'm just staying put.

I had forgotten all about Lords of the Realm.  I loved that series, used to play it all the time.  Very interesting resource management.  Turn based strategy games are so hard to get right, and with that one Sierra nailed it.

Thanks a heap, Chris!  They do indeed have the 6-pack of the originals, and claim that it'll work on Win7!

The third one in the series is great too, albeit somewhat different. Adds in a bit of a free roaming element, which sometimes works, sometimes doesnt. But it also contains the creepiest level I have ever played in any video game by far. On my first play through, I had to stop mid level, and didn't pick it up again until a couple years later, and was still dreading it. Shalebridge Cradle...

Teo Torriatte

Creepier than the dream sequence in Max Payne or the Escher art-ant warrior level in Matrix: Path of Neo?

Geeklet

Yes, and I dont know (Never played the Matrix game).

As much as I want to sit here and explain just how good it is, I also don't wanna give away any spoilers.

Teo Torriatte

Ohh.. you meant creepy, in a good sense? Mine were examples of parts I just thought were too f***ed up mostly in a bad way, heh.

TheEversong

Odd to find a thread on this after someone just yesterday handed me a copy of the original Megaman X and X4. I never got real into the original Megaman series until long after they stopped really making them but X was amazing. I just spent almost an hour relistening to some of the music from the series and I could distinctly remember just how absurdly frustraiting Sigma was as a boss when I was around nine.

Even going back and replaying X4 now Sigma was by far the most difficult thing in the game. I breezed through the other Robot Masters like nothing.

And don't get me started on the silly amounts of JRPG's I played as a kid.

On a different note: I always wanted to play Baldur's Gate 2, did I hear correctly that they are rereleasing it sometime soon?

Geeklet

Well, they are doing Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition, which is the first game (though including some content from the second game, class kits, etc). And if that is successful, it wouldn't surprise me in the least to see them do BG2.

However, if you want the original versions, there is always gog.com

Chris Brady

I...  Didn't care much for Baldur's Gate 2.  They changed so much of the characters in ways that the 'Fans' wanted them to, but I never did.

Everyone got Dynaheir killed for example, or changed Imoen into a mage.  And killed off Jahera's husband what's his name.  I hated Jahera, for the record, so I got them out of the party as fast I could.  And I never understood why everyone complained Dyna kept getting the party killed.  I played a Fighter, and I kept everyone back until her payload was delivered.  Boom, then send everyone else and clean up.  But apparently, everyone else sucked at playing D&D.

I've never met anyone who relied on the AI scripts for the characters in BGI or BGII....but I do remember Dynaheir being irritating because if something went wrong and she died (mages are squishy, particularly at those low levels), Minsc would flip his lid and kill half your party. Jaheria does suck as a 'romance' option, the only reason they killed off Khalid was to make her 'available'. Imoen....meh - sure, she's a mage with a bit of thiefing, but thieves really suck in BG2 anyways, all you need them for is Find Traps since Invisibility is Stealth+ and most boss monsters are backstab-proof. The others, Edwin and Viconia, are pretty much unchanged - Edwin is as delightfully awesome as he always was.

One of my favorite moments in Zork was after like two minutes of trying to kill the damn troll with the knife the game goes 'Shoving aside all thoughts of supernatural protection, the troll slaps aside your thrusting blade and stabbed you dead.' (exepct the description was much more intricate and well.. long.)

Yeah... there's something about at "text adventure" that you just can't find in this hotshot, first person shooter / whatever kinda stuff they have these days.  You could explore the universe without having to have the hand-eye coordination of a Navy fighter pilot...

NES had this really fun little noir game called Nightshade which did not ever allow you to save in any form. You had to beat the game in the three lives you were given, and infer things like how to escape death and earn a retry etc. It was incredibly frustrating, yet altogether captivating as well. I have no idea how many hours we sank into that and still never beat it.

This isn't a game, but here in australia we have the Game Masters exhibition and that is just a nostalgia fest.

BUt awesome. So fricken awesome at the same time

"My game nostalgia just makes me wish someone would take old games and really remake them (not just take the game and port it over to a handheld). I'd love an Action-RPG of FFVI or a Chrono Trigger that doesn't bore me to death. I love Chrono Trigger, mind you, I just hate turn-based games nowadays, at least turn-based RPGs. If something's going to be turn based, I need to be able to strategize, have options, something to actually think about each turn."

Mmmm, I can't remember most of the games I have played, but the ones I love the most were the ones I had for N64, game boy (pocket, color and gba) and a few old NES games. I think the first game I every played was The Legend of Zelda for NES when I was like... 4. I was told that I played it before I was 4, but I have no real memory of doing it aside from stories. //born gamer

But every now and then I get this really strong urge to play the the games I did when I was a kid. Zelda: OoT (and all the other zelda games that came out before and since then), Body Harvest, Harvest Moon 64, the Paper Mario's (also Super Mario RPG) and most of the older Fire Emblem games. Now I want to play them again. //sighs

I like sprites, too.  There's a certain art to taking a small amount of space and making it into a recognizable - even iconic character.  It's hard enough to do that with a static image, and then you incorporate movement!  Serious wow.

My very first video game was way back when. Math Blaster I think it was? Way back when for me, at least. Not so much you guys. It was on the PC, at the first home we had that I remember(it was a trailer).

From there came the PS1, though I used to go over to a friend's house and play his Nintendo like crazy, as the first console I owned.

I remember MGS, Legend of the Dragoon(love that game) and a bunch of the demo discs that we got through the playstation magazine. I'm pretty sure my sisters and I played the demo discs more than some full games we owned.
