I'm fine with the idea myself, but if that was directed at me Aribeth, I'm not running a character, seeing as how I'm running the game, that and I'll be doing my best to keep things moving along with NPCs and stuff lol.

Also LS?  I already like your guy, but you're needing to beef up your background a bit more.  Just a personal preference, sorry to say, but Matthew seems pretty good overall.

So, asked this a few pages back, but my concept has to do with a "newb" going to her first TT game because a friend is going and she's interested.  So the friend helps her make her character sheet, gives her some advice on Character creation such as:

"Pick a small character for the bonus."

"But I want to be pretty. Can't I be an elf?"

"No, elf's racials suck.  Be a halfling"

"But, wouldn't I be a midget?"

"Exactly."

"Okay, whatever."

While I know the game is meant to be serious, I think playing a clueless character would be fun.

So, anyone interested in helping me out?  Just need to be able to tie my girl to your character before the game starts.

Well, Hunter's not a veteran... but if all you want is bad advice, he has lots of that!

And we do have a map, completely blank but I'll be including it in the world building thread later today.  You can thank Famine for the map, he did pretty good work too.  Anyway, keep working on your profiles, getting things sorted out, and I'll do my best to do the same on this end while I still can.

Also, bad advice is still better than none lol.

I've never seen that acronym before, Famine.  I know what it means, given the context, but what does each letter stand for?

Famine

The gods will always smile on brave women, like the Valkyries, whose furies men fear and desire.

Bibliophilia

Oh!  -fucking dies.-  I was trying to make that way more complicated and niche than it was.

Famine

:P yea the first time I saw it I had to ask what it meant as well haha.

-giggles.-  I was all like 'Female terms...fuck you?', but that seemed too mean.  So, I knew it wasn't right.

Oh...oops, sorry Famine, truly.  I didn't even think, and now I feel like an ass lol.  Yes, SHE did an amazing job.

Expanded Mathews background a bit. Hope thats what you were looking for Vergil.
Still working up the character end. Going Elf swashbuckler.
Thinking maybe he is from a clan of elves that are sea faring.

Ah, well consider me not sorry then Famine.  :P  Jokes aside, it's cool my friend.  Also LS, that is definitely better so you're good on Matthew.  Just need the other half when you get a chance.

Gonna try and get more of the world building thread sorted out now that we have a map and I have the time to commit.  Input as always, is welcome, even if it's just to say not to waste my time lol.  I'd prefer you didn't, but it's still an option.  :P

Chulanowa

Name: Hunter Whittleby
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Appearance:  Hunter is about five-eight, of completely average build. His dark blonde hair is too long to be neat, but too short to "do something with" so he usually just crams it under a hat of some sort - Yes, even indoors. It still ends up hanging into his blue eyes, though.  Like most guys his age, he dresses for comfort- jeans, T-shirt, sneakers, that sort of thing. Though he's 17, he still has a bit of gangly awkwardness and a slight case of baby-face. After a failed experiment with a mustache two months ago, he keeps himself smooth-shaved.
Personality: Hunter's not a dumb guy, but he does sort of have trouble paying attention to things. Easily distracted, maybe a little bit of a himbo. Some of that is the smoking, most of it is just him being 17. At the table, he's the guy who forgets what bonuses go to where, and is most likely to lose his character sheet. Fortunately he's fully aware of this failing and jokes it off when it comes up. He's an easy-going, likable young man (or at least, he tries to be.) Funny thing is, he's great around girls... until he figures out they're even slightly interested in him, then he tries too hard. He is unaware of this. Despite his native tendency towards slacking, he's more than willing to pitch in to help a friend, or even a friend of a friend.
Hobbies:  Hunter's not really what most would call a "nerd" - Sure he likes video games, but who doesn't? Big epic superhero and fantasy movies? Same thing! And he actually opened all of his action figures and has read several comic books until they fall apart, so that disqualifies him. His major hobbies thus far have revolved around pwning noobs on the PS4, slacking (and smoking) with his buddies, and the occasional skateboard-assisted blunt trauma to himself. Though you'd never guess it from looking at him, Hunter actually has a pretty deep interest in archaeology; He's the only person in his circle of friends who can pronounce "Tenochtitlan" without effort. Tabletop gaming is a new venture for him, and he is so far from being a grognard it hurts. "Can I have a mountain dew?!" indeed.
Skills:  If there is a task that only requires movement of one's thumbs, Hunter is an A-class expert. Besides that, he's pretty good at making repairs to things; Fixing his own bike and learning to fix cars for when he gets one. Dad's an electrician too, so that helps. He's excellent with animals, and as mentioned has a very good knowledge of ancient civilizations and the sciences of that particular field (all "book learning" so far.) Despite being a bit of a ditz he actually has excellent people skills. Unless he starts trying to have people skills, then it's all like "hey, I see you've got a bucket of chicken too..."
Background: Hunter hais from your stereotypical middle-class nuclear family. David, his father, represents the union for the local newspaper workers. Sandy, his mother co-manages a crafts store. Hunter's the middle child, sandwiched between his brother Kyle who fancies himself a big shot college guy who's going to do better than anyone in the family, and Madelyn, the little sister. Hunter and Kyle never really got along even before Kyle got his delusions of grandeur; In truth, Hunter feels overshadowed by his big brother; Kyle's out learning to be a doctor, and Hunter? Well he's apparently chucking dice in someone's den. Madelyn though, is someone Hunter gets along great with; she sees him as a dork, but what little sister doesn't (and besides, she's right...) All of twelve years old, she has a mouth like a sailor when her parents out to of earshot, and currently aspires to being a professional CS:GO player. Sure, that'll happen. As for the parents, well, they're still suffering the lingering effects of three teenagers in the household; Mostly it's "Hey. How was school. That's nice. Help your mother cook dinner / help your father rake the yard," that sort of thing. Maybe once upon a time they were doting and adoring, but now they've got that thousand-yard stare towards their empty nest vacation plans...

Hunter's school life has been likewise average, and not just in grades. He's got a tight circle of friends, with the closest being Mike and Jalan, who he usually spends weekends with skating at a nearby park. They're also responsible for his weed habit, and these days more time is spent passing a joint between the three of them and bragging about the girls they're totally going to get with after they get to college, man. This is how he met EmJay; the smoking, not the speculative pimping. He's still perplexed by a girl who's hot and a bigger nerd than he is (Cosplay, really, what, you dress up like Luigi?)

Hunter's been struggling to "figure himself out." He knows he's kind of a lump right now; He knows that getting baked and bonking a hackeysack around isn't a career plan, and he understands that he's never ever going to make Pro Tour-level money playing magic. He's currently making decent cash working part-time turning wrenches at a mechanic's shop, but that seems to be a path to nowhere too. Maybe it's just envy of his brother pushing that button in his head, but Hunter wants to be more than some greasemonkey or layabout or whatever. He just doesn't know what.

And until then, there's this game EmJay has dragged him off to try. Could be fun, could be fun...

Ons:  Sounds crazy, but Hunter is still a virgin. Pretty much any sexual encounter would be an "on" for him, really. if you were to ask him, he'd turn really bright red and mumble something about getting a blowjob. Vanilla stuff.
Offs: Again, pretty vanilla. In the day and age of the internet, it's really easy to find stuff you're not into. Hard offs are your usual toilet stuff, pain and blood, that sort of thing. While not strictly an "off" he doesn't understand the appeal of several things - BDSM for instance just seems uninteresting to him. Common hentai tropes like ridiculous breasts (and attendant jiggle physics) and tentacle porn are also a pass for him.

Name: Taran
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Race: Catfolk
Racial Traits:
   • Ability Scores: +2 Dexterity, +2 Charisma, -2 Wisdom; Catfolk are sociable and agile, but often lack common sense.
   • Low-Light Vision: In dim light, catfolk can see twice as far as humans.
   • Cat's Luck: Once per day when a catfolk makes a Reflex saving throw, he can roll the saving throw twice and take the better result. He must decide to use this ability before the saving throw is attempted.
   • Natural Hunter: Catfolk receive a +2 racial bonus on Perception, Stealth, and Survival checks.
   • Sprinter: Catfolk gain a 10-foot racial bonus to their speed when using the charge, run, or withdraw actions.
Link for Class: Rogue
Deities worshipped: Several; Holds Obad-Hai and Cayden Calean in highest regard, but offers prayers to Calistria, Olidammra, and Fharlanghn as the situation calls for.
Appearance:  Taran stands all of five-foot-six, with a lean, athletic build. Soft white-and-grey fur covers his body, softening the taut muscles beneath. His face is most definitely feline, set with almond-shaped amber eyes, a pink pad of a nose, and sharp teeth. What could be taken for a mop of silver-blonde hair would actually grow into a full mane if he let it. He wears very little clothing, reasoning the fur does enough to keep him warm and safe from the elements; What bit he does wear is out of pure practicality; belts and a bandoleer to carry his stuff, a long scarf to protect his face against harsh weather, and a loincloth because apparently other races are easily ashamed (go figure.) He decorates himself with feathers, apparently with no real import; lose one, replace it with another.
Personality: Taran is quite gregarious; whether sharing a fire with another wanderer, or a flagon of ale with a local card sharp, he loves stories and contact and camaraderie. He's confident in his abilities, even when those abilities are lacking - after all, you never know til you try, and the last time you tried might have just been bad luck! Though he's certainly not above thievery ("Khajiit did not steal anything!" Hunter snickers) he's got a grudge against pirates, whose depredations have made his people suffer; for the same reasons, slavery greatly offends him, even if it's punishment for a crime. He gets along easily with any member of any race who will say hello and share a leg of mutton. Except gnolls. Seriously. Fuck gnolls.
Hobbies:  Taran has developed a great love of board games, and knows the rules to most in the immediate territory (though he might not be great at them.) he plays the flute very well and among his own people is regarded as a fine singer (not so much in places that don't appreciate feline yowling though.) technologies he's not seen before can sometimes hold his attention for a great deal of time, until he either gets bored or figures it out. His greatest interest though is in collecting and telling stories, jokes, and myths.
Skills: Wilderness survival and lore, sneaking, trap detection and disarmament, carousing, flute-playing, thievery, and acrobatics
Background:  Taran hails from a seaside tribe of catfolk somewhere to the west. These Murrsarrath make living off both sea and land as hunters, gatherers, and fishers. Seen a primitive or even barbaric by their more "civilized" neighbors, they are nevertheless have their own rich culture and history. Their religion centers around worship of the world around them, with Gozreh depicted as shark-lord of sea and osprey-lady of the air, and obad-Hai as the Old wolf of the forests.

For his part, Taran was born into the Orca clan, famed for warriors and woodcrafters alike. His father Ashan was a famed singer, while his mother Muqara had made a name for herself in battles against pirates who regularly plundered the clan lands. Life in the village was simple enough; kits learned the crafts of adults, mending nets, drying salt, tanning hides, that sort of thing. Besides that though the adults did not do much to "manage" their children, so a lot of learning was through trial and error; Taran lost a friend (and very nearly his own tail) learning the hard lesson that sea lions are not to be messed with.

Upon reaching maturity though, Taran began undergoing a new series of lessons; Everyone in the Orca clan was expected to fight for the safety of the Murrsarrath as a whole, and the youngsters were no exception. Being a small tribe of people, their methods of battle revolved around ambush, traps, irregular warfare, and guile; though many were skilled in face-to-face fighting, the clever nature of the catfolk meant that more irregular forms of warfare were the norm (another factor that led to their perception as "barbarians.) Taran's first battle was against a roving band of gnolls coming from the south, a pitched, dangerous thing. The hyena-monsters were implacable when they had the scent of blood, and hunted Taran and his little band night and day, to the last of them. Taran earned several scars from that, and lost several friends; to this day Gnolls are among the only races of creatures he cannot bring himself to even consider trusting.

Battle alone wasn't enough to earn one's place as an adult, though; anyone with a spear or blade can fight, after all. The Murrsarrath are a curious, inquisitive race though, and their greatest treasures are knowledge and stories. Things from faraway places that no one has heard before. To be considered an adult among the catfolk, a youngster had to go forth on a wandering, a sort of pilgrimage called skarskarret, and return with a clutch of stories and news from abroad after at least a year. When his time came, Taran took on the tattoos of his clan (though they would be covered with fur, any other Murrsarrath would know what they are) and left for the east.

He's been over a year on his journey and has seen much, met many people. Not always for the better; in these dark times, adventurers of any sort are reviled, and those as obviously alien as a primitive "cat-man" perhaps even less so. Even with those hurdles though, Taran has managed, making some fast friendships, a few idle romances, and even a couple of burgeoning rivalries behind him - Mostly due to his theft of something he needed at the time (Evidently humans are very possessive of swords and horses?)  Must of the time on the road has been spent alone, simply learning about hte land itself, strange plants and animals and weather. He doesn't care much for it, being a gregarious sort, and is eager to visit new settlements and forge new partnerships.

Ons: Taran has developed a slight fetish for furless races. Especially ones that enjoy petting, scratching, and cuddling.
Offs: Being talked about as if he were a domesticated animal; Anything bodily damaging (For him; if you like being bitten or scratched, he can accommodate); Having his tail or ears pulled (fondled is fine, fulling will get you hurt.)

Vergil1989

As I already asked LS, I'm going to have to ask you to add a fair bit more to Hunter and Taran's histories.  Beyond that though, you're doing pretty good.  I know, I'm a pain in the ass, but I just like more to work with is all.  That and most everyone else has so far given me and Silk three paragraphs in their histories thus far, without too much poking about lol.  But yes, sorry Chul, still need a bit more, but you're off to a good start.

When I'm not about to pass out, I'll start getting the OOC, character threads, and maybe even the IC going tomorrow.  For now though, excellent work from everyone thus far and I'm quite excited to see what everyone's capable of in the days to come.

Uffda. Well, I'll figure something out. Anything in particular you're looking for, 'cause I could totally fill Hunter's background up with all the inane things that add up to seventeen years. But I'm guessing you can live without that one time at band camp  ;D

Relikai

Landshark

How exactly will fantasy character background and knowledge be used? Do the characters suddenly know this information on top of they're real lives? Is it a broken kind of almost split.personality kinda thing?

Secondly, if we have world ideas ( cities, regions etc...) should we post it for confederation or pm you?

Callie Del Noire

Vergil1989

Relika, you're free to join up, as are you Callie, but depending on how many sheets I get, I might have to start picking and choosing at this point.

And to answer your questions LS.  They're still who they were before, but yes, they'd be able to 'remember' the lives of their characters, their abilities, skills, any friends and contacts they made, (which is part of why I've been asking for larger backgrounds), and anything else they might realistically know or be able to do.  No split personality or anything like that, your personality would still be that of your real life self, but also that of your character at the same time.  Confidence comes easier, fear might be far easier to manage, insecurities not entirely your own might pop up, but it's more of a harmless fusion rather than one side taking over the other if that makes sense.  As for world ideas, PM or you can post on the world building thread itself since there's plenty of space to be had.  Once I grab your post though and copy, edit, or whatever, just delete yours if you would.

Also Chul, hope some of that helped for your own background as well.  Names for Hunter's parents, his brother, a little about what they do for a living, just whatever comes to mind to fill in the gaps.  Maybe Hunter actually wants to do something he hasn't told anyone before because of one reason or another.  It's all up to you, but Taran is a bit more free since I'm quite curious to see more about his life before he left his village.  Did he have any friends, family, who were they, what was the village itself like?  I could easily keep going, and that was just off the top of my head.

So long as you're humanoid and don't have Evil in your alignment, I'm not being too picky.  I'm pretty sure we have a tiefling gunslinger in the works, and a rogue's just been created so that role's good.  We have a berserker and a scary ass gnome mesmerist.  I haven't seen any progress made yet, but we were SUPPOSED to have a cleric, not sure if they're still going to do so though.  So we could still use a bard or a mage of some sort.  If we get two of the same class, I'll likely go with the one I like more, although there's no rule that says we can't double up lol.

Sounds good.  In case anyone's wondering by the way, the whole 'Age of Heroes' I kept mentioning in the world building thread?  I've come to consider that whole time period as before Marvel's Civil War.  Before the world grew utterly tired of the violence brought by both sides, Valorian was their Justice League Hall of Justice, their Avengers Tower, basically any hero group you can think of.  But after the paladin that fell and came back as a Bane worshipping nutjob, who would go on to corrupt almost every hero she came into contact with, the Civil War unfolded with the world still holding a grudge against the heroes once revered as such.  It'll be your job, once you start getting a name for yourselves, to rebuild that lost honor, to become a beacon of hope again.  And trust me, the world's going to need new heroes lol.
