POWERS:
Ice Snap - Orion has dubbed his mutant powers ‘ice snap’ since the only time he can use them is when he snaps his fingers. In whatever direction he is pointing when he snaps his fingers is where the ice crystals will appear. If his fingers are aimed directly at someone when he snaps, ice crystals will appear on their body, usually in a square foot radius on their body. His aim is impeccable, so usually he goes for the feet to trap his enemies, or straight for the face to render them unconscious. Orion can also cover himself in ice, since he is completely immune to the effects it has on the human body. In close quarter combat, Orion can use the ice crystals as a sort of ‘ice knife’ as long as he can pull them from his own body, or get close enough to pull them off of another. After years of self-training, Orion has nearly mastered the art of his own power, yet still has a tendency to accidentally ice up something without realizing that he snapped his fingers. No poetry jams for him.

ADVANTAGES:
Quick Reflexes - Since Orion has been on the street since he was sixteen, he has adapted to the dangers of living homelessly. He has honed his reflexes to react quickly, though it is not a superhuman ability.
Perception - Along with honing his reflexes, Orion has increased his perception by living on the streets. He can always tell when someone is around him, even if they are hiding in the shadows.

DISADVANTAGES:
Trust Issues - It is hard for Orion to trust people simply because he has been wronged by so many, including his parents. He always believes that someone has an ulterior motive, even if they don’t.
Substance Abuse - Orion has used many different drugs. He has managed to break away from his addictions to everything other than alcohol. He still has a tendency to smoke pot whenever he can, and almost always has a cigarette dangling between his lips.

SKILLS:
Cold Storage Repair: - Orion made a bit of his money by repairing old refrigerators, freezers. Pretty much anything that involves cold, he has learned how to fix. 
Accent Mimicry: - Since he has posed as many different people on the streets and has done quite a bit of sex work, Orion has learned to mimic many accents including: British, Australian, Russian, Irish, Scottish, German, Spanish, and French.
Multilingual: Orion always found other languages interesting, so he learned a three different ones including: Spanish, German, and French.

HISTORY:
Orion was born to a conservative, upper class family living in the more decent area of a Detroit suburb in the year 1999. His father was an amazing heart surgeon, while his mother took advantage of her husband’s high paying job to be a faithful stay at home mother to their beautiful son. Life in the Zidek household was easy for the most part. Orion never wanted for anything. His birthday gifts and Christmas presents were always amazing and over the top. Usually things he didn’t necessarily need, but he wanted. It wasn’t until Orion became a teenager that he learned everything wasn’t perfect.

The only child of the Zidek family knew he was gay by the time he was fourteen years old and had his first ‘boyfriend’. The two of them fooled around together, and eventually found themselves having feelings for one another. He wouldn’t dare come out to his parents, since he knew that with their conservative, ‘Christian’ lifestyle, they would not accept him for who he was. In turn, he kept who he was a secret from them, until something else rose to the surface a month after he turned sixteen. He had heard about mutants, he even envied them, yet he never thought that he actually was one. That was, not until he snapped his fingers while listening to music in his room and froze his door shut.

Orion was frantic, trying to figure out what had just happened, and why it had happened. His mother had been banging on the door, ordering him to unlock it so she could come in. In the state that he was in, he couldn’t control his abilities and started to freeze his whole room. By the time his mother came in, her son’s room had been consumed by the ice. Orion knew his parent’s stance on mutants. They were abominations, just like homosexuals. Before the day had ended, Orion saved himself time and left, packing only the essentials in his backpack and leaving. He stayed with friends through his last two years of high school, then hitchhiked his way out of Detroit, paying the men who picked him up with sexual favors.

Before long Orion found himself in New York city, where he figured he could find something to do that could keep him fed and clothed. The only thing he found was prostitution, and drug running, both of which he continued to do until he hit rock bottom. Along the way he picked up skills and traits to keep himself alive and well. His ability to mimic any accent he has ever heard came in handy, along with being fluent in three different languages other than English. He took it upon himself to learn how to fix cold storage appliances to make a little extra cash on the side, though it was never enough for him to get off the streets. In the end living life on the streets didn’t give him anything other than amazing control over his power, along with above average reflexes and perception.

It was when Orion hit bottom that a man who he had done dealings with in the past came along and found him. The man was in his fifties, but a generous and nice man, unlike every other man he had blown or let fuck him for a bit of cash. This man took pity on him, and took him to a rehab facility and paid for his recovery. Within that time, Orion figured out what he wanted to do. He set his sights on Xavier’s Institute for Higher Learning, to meet other mutant’s like him, and hopefully learn to trust people again and do something better with his life. As soon as he was released, he walked there, determination dead set on finally having a place to call home to stay warm and out of trouble and harms way.

POWERS:
Solid Energy Constructs - Billy has the ability to create solid (and quite powerful) energy constructs. Shields, bolts, and disks are the most common and since this is the power he is most well versed with, Billy can use this power without it using much energy at all. Still, his shields are only large enough for him to protect himself and two others, and his bolts/disks can only reach a ten-meter radius from where his hand is.
Flight - Can engage himself in self-propelled flight that can last over great distances, however cannot fly anywhere near as fast as Northstar can, but can almost keep up with Thor.
Minor Healing - This is a power that has surfaced recently and Billy does not know the extent of it yet. All he has managed to do without getting dizzy or sick is heal bruises, scrapes, small cuts, and minor burns.
Teleportation - One of Billy’s most strenuous powers for his body. He can only teleport himself and two others to a location he has been to before, or can picture clear in his mind. Afterwards he needs at least a few moments to rest before doing anything else regarding his powers.
Minor Conjuring - When he really sets his mind to it, Billy can conjure up clothing, small amounts of food, or his staff. Usually he only uses it to conjure his staff, and that’s only if he has forgotten the damn thing. Still, it takes quite a bit of effort so he usually just does things the old fashioned way without magic.
Pyrokinesis - The most recent development in Billy’s powers, as well as the most unpredictable and hard for him to control. Without a proper hold on his powers, Billy is likely to catch things on fire since he hasn’t yet learned how to control this gift. With training, he is sure that he can control it, though he has a tendency to burn his hands when he isn’t careful with it beyond his ability to heal himself.

ADVANTAGES:
Kindness - Billy is a kind individual, which he likes to think helps him acquire strong friendships that last.
Wiccan’s Staff - Billy has a staff that he uses to focus his energy blasts and disks, giving them an extra meter of reach and better accuracy.

DISADVANTAGES:
Easily Distracted - Since Billy spends a lot of his time studying and the like, he has a tendency of getting to into a book and become distracted from what is going on around him or forget about the plans that he has made. This often results in him running into someone, or accidentally upsetting a friend.
Naive - There are a lot of things that Billy hasn’t experienced in his life yet, therefore he is left feeling naive amongst others that have much more experience than he does when it comes to life lessons and such. It leaves him slightly jealous of people that get to experience love and sex, though he tries his best not to show it.

SKILLS:
Extensive Asgardian Knowledge: - Once Billy’s powers awakened, he took it upon himself to become as well versed with as many different kinds of knowledge that he could, finding himself particularly invested in Asgardian Mythology. His unyielding attraction to Thor could have something to do with that, as well.
Magical Knowledge: - On top of Asgardian culture, Billy is very into learning about magic and magical artifacts, which makes this skill useful to anyone who is willing to listen to him.

HISTORY:
Billy was born into a loving and caring family. The eldest of three children to Jeff and Rebecca Kaplan (both of which had well paying jobs), Billy lived a fairly sheltered life due to his parents religious views as reformed Jews. He didn’t know what true pain was until he was in his last years of middle school into high school when the fact that he was gay made him a target for bullies. It wasn’t entirely uncommon for him to come home with a black eye and a busted lip, but he pressed his parents not to worry about it, that he could handle it.

Once day after a particularly harsh beating, Billy didn’t go home. Instead he was sitting in front of a particularly fancy looking townhome. Little did he know that it was the Avenger’s mansion, and the woman who approached him was the Scarlet Witch. Something inside of him pressed him to talk to her, and in the end she told him that he could “handle himself” before touching his forehead. A red light appeared, but Billy didn’t put too much thought into it, instead he went home.

A week later Billy decided it was time for him to stand up to his bully when he saw another teen facing the same fate as he had. Fate stepped in, and Billy’s powers appeared in the form of an energy bolt that almost took the bullies life. A boy of just sixteen years old, Billy was afraid and unsure of what had just happened. His interaction with the mystery woman a week earlier kept replaying in his head over and over again. It was at this time that Billy started to start reading up on magic and mythology, getting himself in tuned with the possibilities of where his powers could have come from.

Billy was contacted by Xavier himself not long after the incident with the bully and accepted the invitation to go to Xavier’s Institute. He has been there for two years, acquired his diploma, and now continues to go there for college courses. The Institute has done wonders at helping him learn how to strengthen his powers and learn how to control them. So far with all of the powers he had acquired, the only two he has managed to learn how to control perfectly are the forms of energy manipulation and flight. He is still working towards his goal of finding out exactly where his powers came from and how to control all of the powers he has, especially pyrokinesis. He also aspires to become a teacher at the Institute at some point so that he can help other students who were just like him when they first arrived.

Hey there. I love the idea! As a comic book fan I rarely role play them, I only like comic based role plays that give me the opportunity to re-imagine the characters and stories. Because if I wanted the same and nothing but the same id just reread the comics. :P Ha ha. None the less, not sure how you feel about grabbing a non mutant character and re imagining him as a mutant who becomes a student. But heres my crack at it. I after all find character creation to be the best part! >_< So accepted or not I had fun making him. None the less, I must add. In this version he does not have a military back ground. He is merely an average Joe, some one with an exceptional ability, which if honed is applicable for combat.

POWERS:  Hyper advanced Procedural Memory.

Hyper Advanced Procedural Memory - To explain his power. One must ask, what is Procedural memory?   Procedural memory is memory for the performance of particular types of action. Procedural memory guides the processes we perform and most frequently resides below the level of conscious awareness. When needed, procedural memories are automatically retrieved and utilized for the execution of the integrated procedures involved in both cognitive and motor skills, from tying shoes to flying an airplane to reading. Procedural memories are accessed and used without the need for conscious control or attention. Procedural memory is a type of long-term memory and, more specifically, a type of implicit memory. Procedural memory is created through "procedural learning" or, repeating a complex activity over and over again until all of the relevant neural systems work together to automatically produce the activity. Implicit procedural learning is essential for the development of any motor skill or cognitive activity. Now imagine a man, who's Procedural Memory is so advanced that he does not require repetition? Where it acts as a photographic memory, allowing him to copy what he see's? That is his power. He can watch a pianist, then copy his key strokes. Watch a Bruce Lee movie, then reenact his moves. Mind you, it is not learning completely. He cant learn to play the music from the sheet by watching the pianist but he can copy exactly what the man did. With his Procedural Memory potential unlocked, The Taskmaster thus gained the ability to absorb knowledge instantaneously. This ability is linked to his muscle memory allowing the Taskmaster to instantly replicate the physical movement of even peak-level humans. Once the Taskmaster has mastered an opponent's physical movements, he can then predict an opponents next attack. (Mind you predict, not know. Finite difference. A prediction is a gamble not a science. As seen in the comics in fights with Deadpool, whom has proven to crazy and unpredictable for Tony to read.)

ADVANTAGES:
Light Sleeper - "Sorry, not big on sleeping. Id rather just read this book. Maybe go for a jog.... Ya I am bored."

DISADVANTAGES:
Memory loss - His power comes from the enlarged portion of the brain involving Muscle Memory. As a result, it pinches against his internal memory. The more implicit memories (i.e. knowledge and abilities) he learns, the more explicit memories (i.e. personal experience) he loses. It is not crippling, he can remember things like where he left his keys. But, it's parts of his own past that become shady, leaving or coming back to him on a whim. Becoming morphed or twisted by the inaccuracy of the memory.


SKILLS:
Archery - One of the few skills he learned at an early age, far before his powers manifested. He is a big fan of all things mid evil, from knights to chivalry. And especially mid evil combat. A bow and arrow being his favorite weapon, British Longbow in particular. The British bastard sword, accompanied by a round shield is his close second when it comes to mid evil arms.

Construction - Worked in construction before joining the school.

Midevil History - A bit of a history buff, particularly is fascinated with mid evil history, fantasy, and culture.

Metalurgy/Sword Smithing - Dabbled into it as a hobby. Learning the science of it was hard, but the actual work and actions came naturally. For, obvious reasons.

Fetching - Learned it through his Archery club.

HISTORY:

Tony grew up in a small home, to a single parent. His mother working day in and out just to support him. Brooklyn did not make things any easier. New york in general is a tough place to live and Brooklyn was no exception. He grew up in a tough situation, but rather then ask mommy to coddle him. He grew his tough skins, he wizened up and didnt take shit from any one. After all, you had to keep your wits about you in those days and these.  He began to focus less on grades and more on physicality. Even in highschool, he aimed his sights on a foot ball scholarship. Sure he was in the school archery team, after all he loved mid evil combat, he loved to fire a bow and arrow. But he couldn't put enough time in it. Football was his secure future right? A little more then a week after his sixteenth birthday... It started. When he went to class, he did his usual routine. Ignored the teachers, listened to music and texted, slouching about like a free loader. Until, a angered teacher called his name. The music teacher told him to that if he is to important to listen then surely he must be a natural musician. Trying to humiliate the boy he told him to play on the piano. Tony took him up on it, his own little bluff. But it payed off. It started with thinking of how other students had played on the damned thing. And within moments, he was doing it. No not reading the sheets, playing on the piano. He turned it all around, and humiliated the teacher.

It began to form in other facets. From driving, to imitating things actors did in movies. It was not until he managed to mimic his friends voices that eye brows truly rose. Tony was content with his ability, seeing it as the means for a future. But tragedy struck when his mother wrecked her car. Hospitalized moments before the years big game. Brought with a choice, he chose family over football. Being there for his mothers last moments. His angered coach seen to it he was no longer in the team, a real old prick that even wouldn't put his name out their for possible college teams. It was no longer his easy access to a great college, but with his power that didnt matter. After graduation he took a good long year to consider his future. At which point he was contacted by Xaviers school for the gifted. He refused them, he knew his power was in check. He knew how it worked and just wanted to move on with his life. He settled in to a normal life,  But, as soon as he was twenty.... Things began to become hazy.

It began to become difficult to remember things. At first he found it hard to remember some ones name. Which he found odd. At first he thought it was an innocent mistake. But then... He began to mix up his own history. He mixed up the fact that his dad left his mom when he was five, him wrongly thinking it was when he was nine. How does one do that? He forgot the fact he was in archery, despite the fact he loved it! About as much as fencing or sword play. Which he had dabbled in. But the final nail on the coffin was.... He dialed his old house phone, trying to call his mom... The second he realized he had done that. He knew something was wrong. His memories were fading. Day in day out, he forgot names, faces, old memories. Some times for seconds. Other times for days, only to barely remember later...  He made a decision, one he wishes he made a year ago. Back before this all started to happen. He went into his old things. Opened a box, and pulled a piece of paper. He contacted the man that contacted him a year ago. Telling him he would accept their offer, to go to this school. So that hope fully they can figure out what is happening to him. Before he loses himself entirely.

Even if we might have to work a little on her powers and/or some aspects of her biography I figured I might as well post her here, to give everyone a preview of what might be to come. Right now Alchemist is about as finished as I can make her, so I await suggestions and critique.

She almost always wears a self-made necklace, usually hidden under her clothes, with about three dozen small beads of different materials, from glass and wood to iron, gold, and some more exotic materials.

(I'd say her above-average Intuition is - in part - the result of a subconscious use of her "atomic vision" that she might not even be aware of, her Psyche just a sign of strong mental discipline acquired from years of training to control her powers)

POWERS:

Matter Transmutation – Alchemist can change both organic and inorganic matter on an atomic level by just wishing the change to happen. The more complex the change, the more time and concentration she needs, but she can turn lead into gold, glass into diamonds, or destroy an object by turning it into a pile of sand. Her powers work best (i) at line of sight, (ii) on stationary targets (a car driving by at 50mph or more would be very difficult for her to affect, something going maybe 70mph+ completely out of her reach), and (iii) if she can also touch the substance she wants to transform something into. Very dense metals (like the armor of a tank or a Sentinel) are difficult for her to change and the most exotic metals (especially adamantium and vibranium) are still beyond her abilities. The larger the object she wants to affect, the harder it becomes for her. If she wants to avoid serious fatigue, her current limit is about 1 cubic yard/meter at a time, maybe half that with very dense metals, so she could turn either the tires or the engine of a car to dust, but not turn a whole car into something else in one go without gaining a splitting headache in return. Alchemist is not capable of directly reshaping an object while she changes its material composition. A metal fork turned into wood will end up a wooden fork, not a wooden spoon or knife, however much she might want it to change shape. If she really wants to change an objects shape she has to "sculpt" it by gradually taking parts of it away or adding parts to it by (for example) changing the air around an object into an added part for that object. Objects she changes will not gain or lose energy and so will be in the aggregate state appropriate for the temperature they were when changed.
The more she exerts herself using her transmutation power, the more fatigued Alchemist will become, said fatigue manifesting primarily in dizziness, headaches, or nausea. To sum it up, factors that will (cumulatively) increase the effort she needs to exert:
   > No line of sight
   > No reference for the material she wants something to change into at hand
   > Working with very tough metals
   > Large volumes
When it comes to organic matter, Alchemist is capable of using her powers for feats of healing, rendering a virus in someone's body inert, turning a cancerous cell into a healthy cell, or destroying toxins. But all these feats take time, as the lack of an unaided line of sight can hamper her abilities, and she needs to work carefully if she wants to avoid unwanted side effects and accidentally damaging healthy cells in the process. There are a few exceptions, tricks she has mastered so well over the years that she can perform them without much effort, the first and foremost being sobering someone up by neutralizing alcohol in their system.
Used in a fight, Alchemist's powers are frightening or useless, depending on how you look at it. Lacking the time to affect a subtle change, in the heat of a fight she would have to work massive, direct changes to take someone out, changes that are bound to outright kill someone or cripple them for life. That is something she has sworn to herself she would never ever do, making the direct application of her powers against a human or mutant in a fight completely out of the question for her.
Atomic Vision – Alchemist can shift her perception to the atomic level, seeing the world around her as clouds of atoms and molecules, like galaxies full of myriads of stars that dance around each other. This allows her to selectively change even the tiniest part of an object or being – if she can identify that part. On this level the boundaries between different objects become hard to distinguish and if she is looking for something specific she needs to know what she is looking for. Descriptions like "a chip marked with an X" become meaningless when one looks at the atoms and molecules that make up a computer. Even distinguishing between a computer chip and the board it sits on at all can be tricky on this level. Standing half a chance to do some good with her powers when dealing with living organisms was the main reason Alchemist studied biochemistry in the first place, which now allows her to detect foreign substances, most viruses, and cancerous cells in a human body. She might also notice something unfamiliar that is out of the ordinary, but figuring out what exactly that thing is will take old-fashioned research. Just that she can see something no one else can does not automatically impart any knowledge on her.

ADVANTAGES:
Trustworthy – People often find it easy to trust Tania and open up to her. There is nothing superpowered to it, just a combination of a warm smile, big brown eyes, and patience and politeness she displays when dealing with people.
Easily underestimated – By the same token Tania is sometimes taken for the least threatening and most harmless person around, which might work to her advantage at times.

DISADVANTAGES:

Random spaceout – Tania does not yet have complete control over her perception of the atomic level. Sometimes she finds it difficult to perceive people and objects for what they really are instead of a large cloud of atoms and molecules. She can also become completely absorbed by those structures and find it difficult to remember what she was doing when her special senses kick in unexpectedly.
Uncertain of her powers – So far Tania's powers have advanced in leaps and bounds, with her discovering a new aspect or application of her powers suddenly and out of the blue. Each time that happened she withdrew from the world for a while, till she came to grips with her new abilities, but sometimes she is afraid of where this journey will take her. Sometimes she questions if she can actually have any sort of relationship with the people around her when she sometimes sees them – and herself – as just clouds of atoms instead of individuals. And if her powers continue to grow, what if she one day touches a molecule, changes it, and isn't even aware any longer that she is making a change inside a living, breathing being?

SKILLS:
Biology and Chemistry: Studied biochemistry and molecular biology for about twelve semesters. Knowledge equivalent to a masters degree in both subjects.
Material Sciences: Studied material sciences for several semesters. Knowledge equivalent to a bachelor degree.

Martial Arts: As Tania refuses to use her powers on another human being in a fight she has studied both Aikido and Tai Chi for self-defense, but also to help her focus and concentration. While well-trained, Tania lacks actual fighting experience. She might do well enough using her training, or she might freeze in an actual fight. How that might turn out remains to be seen.
Camping and Basic Survival: Spent many months away from civilization while she practiced her powers away from other people and picked up some basic survival and wilderness skills during that time.

HISTORY:

Tania is the only child of Edward Riley Yates, an American accountant, and Angelika Müller, a German lawyer Edward met while working in Germany for a consulting company. While born in Germany, she grew up in the United States, mainly on the East Coast where her father worked and the family eventually settled in Washington D.C. when her mother found work there with a lobbying firm that advised companies investing in Europe.

Tania's childhood was fairly average, until her powers manifest when she was 17 (2001), first with objects just crumbling to dust under her fingers or randomly changing color. It took her a while to figure out that it might be her causing it, and she tried her best to hide what happened and to control it somehow. It didn't take long before she realized that she can switch her powers on and off at will, even if she had a hard time controlling what happened when she actually activated her powers. Not quite trusting herself to completely control her powers under stress she withdrew from most of her friends and began to act more and more like a loner, despite that not really being in her nature. If her parents knew about her mutant powers they never said so, but one evening she overheard her parents talking about a boy who lived down the street and took his own life when his parents couldn't accept his homosexuality, and to Tania it sounded like this tragic incident had influenced her parents' decision not to mention her powers or press her on that point.

2008: When Tania was 24 she was contacted by Xavier and offered a place on his team of X-Men. By this time she had a good grasp of transmuting base elements and was beginning to develop her 'atomic vision' and showed the first signs that she can manipulate organic matter. She stayed at the mansion for a few weeks, working with Xavier to refine her powers, but decided to leave before she became an official member of the team, as she deemed the risk of hurting a fellow mutant while she experimented with her powers too great. Another part of her decision to leave the mansion was that she saw herself very much as a human with a special talent and didn't feel quite at home in what struck her as a 'mutants only club', despite agreeing with Xavier on human/mutant relations. (Please note that this is only how Tania perceived it. That only says something about her subjective impressions and should not be construed as a statement about the attitude of the X-Men at the time.)

2009-2020: In the intervening years Tania has gone back and forth between studying to gain a theoretical underpinning for her powers and frequent spells of living away from civilization in remote areas where she could practice her powers without fear of detection or causing accidental harm to anyone. But since Tania is a city girl at heart and enjoys being around people, she never stayed in the wilderness for more than two or three months at a time, on average about 6 weeks before returning to her studies and city life. During this time she supported herself using her transmutation powers, turning lead into gold or glass into precious stones and selling those, but always careful to limit herself to small amounts here and there, never going beyond a modest lifestyle, to avoid drawing attention to herself.

During this time she followed the news about mutants if and when there were some news. For many years she was determined to just get on with her own life and not get involved in mutant affairs more than she had to, but with the recent news of governments moving against mutants she no longer feels safe to deal with the world at large alone. But finding safety in numbers was not the only reason she made her way to Xavier's school. Perhaps the human governments were only moving against mutants who presented a clear and present danger, but Tania knew well enough that humans could be ruled by fear, once that fear was stoked – but so could mutants. If mutants felt they were persecuted, some of them would not sit idly by. Tensions could rise and lead to a conflict neither mutants nor humans might win. And even if one side won, the other side would lose. She didn't want that. She wanted coexistence and she could no longer ignore the fact that her genetics meant she had a part in all that was going on. She wanted peace, and where better to advocate for peace between mutants and humans than a school for young mutants?

Personality: Hank McCoy is most defined by his dedication to science and reason. It is an ironic contrast because his mutation forces him to continuously wrestle with irrational animal impulses, yet much of his personality and his behavior is guided by the highest of human cognition. This contrast gives Hank a somewhat elastic psychological makeup. He can be the smartest, most reasonable man in the world at one moment and turn into raging beast the next. This breadth of cognition gives him control issues similar to that of Cyclops and Jean Grey. However, Hank's personality and his cognitive makeup cause him to handle it in a very different way. It's easy to see how he would favor the rational approach early on. Both his parents were champions of the tenants of science. The community he grew up in was immersed in the most advanced scientific research. Hank, having the benefit of a genius IQ, could actually understand and contemplate these profound mysteries. This is important to consider because it takes a certain level of intellect to not only understand these concepts, but to be guided by them as well. Hank was motivated throughout his life to understand these extremely complex forces. Ape like physique - The Beast possesses superhuman strength, agility, endurance, and speed, despite his bulk. He possesses the agility of a great ape and the acrobatic prowess of an accomplished circus aerialist. His physiology is durable enough to allow him to survive a three story fall by landing on his feet without suffering any broken bones or sprains. The Beast's legs are powerful enough to enable him to leap approximately 15 feet high in a standing high jump, and around 25 feet in a standing broad jump. He can also run on all fours at approximately 40 miles per hour for short sprints. The Beast can crawl up brick walls by wedging his fingers and toes into the smallest cracks and applying a vice-like grip on them, as well as walk a tightrope with minimal effort. He is adept in performing complicated sequences of gymnastics such as flips, rolls, and springs, and can also walk on his hands for many hours. Further, his manual and pedial dexterity are so great that he can perform multiple tasks such as writing with both hands at once or tie knots in rope with his toes. The Beast possesses enhanced senses, the ability to secrete pheromones to attract members of the opposite sex, as well as a slight healing factor that allows him to regenerate minor wounds and recover quickly from minor ailments such as colds. HISTORY:
Henry McCoy was born in Livermore, California in a comfortable middle-class home. His father, Norton McCoy, was a prominent scientist at the world-renowned Lawrence Livermore National Labratory and his mother was a homemaker. Much of his upbringing centered around the scientific community that was so prominent in the area. As a hotbed for advanced technological research, young Henry was immersed in the world of science and showed an early interest in wonders of the natural world.

Throughout his childhood his parents nourished his innate curiosity. It wasn't long before Henry showed a profound talent for reason. By the time he was ten he was scoring genius level results on IQ tests. He skipped several grades and frequently accompanied his father on research assignments for Livermore. Around this time, it was noticed by his family and peers that his appearance seemed a bit unusual. He developed a stocky, muscular demeanor that seemed more like an ape. It was subtle at first, but Henry himself quickly determined that he was a mutant. It was his first major discovery and despite the shock of his peers, it expanded his hunger for new knowledge.

Unfortunately, the knowledge he got from his father was cut off when Norton McCoy was fired. His superiors wanted him to start on a new project that involved chemical and biological agents that could potentially be used in war. He refused out of principle and because of this, he was cast out from both the community and the organization he dedicated his life to. This impacted Henry and his family profoundly, not just in terms of money but in ethics as well. His father's morality gave Henry a profound new insight on his world and would use this inspiration later in life.

After losing his job at Livermore, Norton McCoy moved his family to New York City where he accepted a low-paying teaching position. For a time the family lived meagerly, but Henry used his brilliance to push ahead. He graduated high school early at age 16 and started working odd-jobs to help his family. As he did this he developed his ape-like reflexes. He became more and more physically endowed and at times he appeared to become more ape than man. This caused a fair amount of ridicule and scorn from his peers that threatened his potential. But through much effort he overcame his animal instincts, learning to suppress the beast inside. Not wanting to see his son's potential go to waste, Norton McCoy called upon an old college associate. And through him, Henry was able to go to college.

By age 18 he obtained a scholarship from Princeston. Once there he excelled both in the classroom and on the field. Emboldened by his new control, he became a star football player and set several major rushing records. By the time he graduated with a doctorate, he was one of the youngest and most acclaimed graduates in the school's history. Around this time, he had gotten the attention of Xaviers school for the gifted. With little need to convince Henry, he willfully accepted their offer. Through them, he came to understand his powers more. And how to further keep his instincts at bay. Further, because he lived in a school it stood to reason that he continued his own education. For an additional two years of learning, he had continued to educate himself. On his third year he became a professor. Now on the start of his second year teaching Biology. As well as lecturing in Scientific Theories.

POWERS:

SOUND CONVERSION - She has the ability to transduce sonic vibrations, which reach her body into various types of light. This ability seems to operate over a great range of frequencies, including the audible spectrum (35 to 16,500 cycles per second), and a great variation of sound pressure levels regardless of the complexity, dissonance, or randomness of the sound. For example, a car crash and a symphonic passage of equal duration will both produce usable music incoming acoustic vibrations. Dazzler, however, does prefer the sound of music, particularly that which is rhythmically sustained. Not only is music more pleasant to her ears, but the steady beat of popular music provides a more constant source of sound to convert. However, she cannot use any sound produced by her own body.

LIGHT PROJECTION -  Dazzler possesses a body-wide energy field that controls the energy levels of the outer electron shells of her body in such a way as to cause the cascaded release of photons. In effect, this field is lasing, with the apparent efficiency of a laser (99.9%). The released energy is far greater than the incoming kinetic energy and therefore must involve an outside energy source, the nature of which is unguessable. Left undirected, the Dazzler’s light will radiate from her body in all directions, producing regular flashes of white light (white light is a mixture of all portions of the visible spectrum). By conscious control over the light she produces, she can control its direction, frequency (color), amplitude (intensity), and duration. Apparently the Dazzler must consciously or subconsciously will the light to leave her body. Otherwise, light would “leak” from her at all times, even when she is asleep or unconscious. She can produce numerous effects with the light she converts from sonic vibrations. She can simply cause a bright glow all about her body. She can create very simple patterns out of rays of light like circles, squares, triangles, and stars. She can create a pulse of light on the order of several thousand watts seconds of power, which temporarily blinds people with its brilliance. She can create a chaotic cascade of sparkling lights and colors that severely upsets other people’s equilibrium, or a pulsating strobe-light effect. She has learned to manifest her light as: LASERS, STROBE, ILLUMINATION, ROCKET BURST and others.

HISTORY:

Alison Blaire was born to Carter and Katherine Blaire in the Long Island suburb of Gardendale, New York. Alison's parents had a tense relationship, because her father was a stoic law student, while her mother was a free-spirited entertainer. Ultimately, this led to Katherine walking out on Carter while Alison was still a toddler, leaving Carter to raise Alison with the help of his mother, Bella Blaire. Katherine's leaving had a profound effect on Carter, who had kept the shameful secret of Katherine from Alison most her life. As Alison entered adolescence and developed dreams of becoming a singer, her father, now a judge, became increasingly intolerant of the idea. Instead, Carter forced Alison to choose a life path similar to his own; Alison would become an academic star and continue on a path to law school. Alison's grandmother was more sympathetic to young Alison and encouraged her to explore her creative energies. Alison went the way of many pop stars in waiting and released her own YouTube Channel.

However, Alison manifested her mutant abilities while performing at a middle-school dance, blinding all in attendance save herself. For years, Alison kept her powers a secret from those closest to her, further alienating herself from her father. I am very new to the group myself, meaning my own knowledge might be rather limited. Then again, perhaps a newbie perspective might be just the thing to answer your question.

About a month ago (in-game) the government rounded up several mutants, but what has become of them is (far as I can tell) unknown. (see the timeline thread for slightly more details).

Currently there is some debate among the students how best to deal with a possible human/mutant conflict, but, for the most part, my impression is that the game currently is a sandbox-type school/academy focused game dealing with interpersonal relationships far more than overarching plots and world-shattering scenarios.

Ons/Offs: Pete still has to find out all his Ons and Offs. Right now his tastes in the bedroom are surprisingly vanilla for a guy who comes off as the rebellious tough guy. But that is a part of him that came about when his mother was killed and his defenses aren't as strong any more as they were seven years ago.

Hot Knives – Wisdom's body stores ambient heat and solar energy and can release it in the form of energy blades at his fingertips. Pete can use these energy blades as extensions of his fingers like claws or release them and use them as ranged weapons very much like throwing knives. He has control over the intensity of the 'hot knives', as he calls them, allowing him to generate them at three different strengths: (i) "Hurts a lot" – the equivalent of a taser shock / a heavy punch, (ii) "Pretty strong" – cuts through most normal materials with relative ease, (iii) "Hotter than the sun" – can punch through almost anything.
As Wisdom doesn't seem to suffer any ill effects from storing ambient energy and is apparently capable of generating as many hot knives as he likes without running out of energy, it has been theorized that his body serves as an amplifier for the energy he stores.

ADVANTAGES:
Unorthodox Fighter – Pete mixes basic brawling, military hand-to-hand training, and raw bloodymindedness into a wild, undisciplined, yet surprisingly efficient fighting style that often takes his opponents by complete surprise by it's sheer devil-may-care recklessness.
Never give up, never surrender – Once Pete's adrenalin gets flowing there is no stopping him. Cut off his arms and he'll headbutt you. Cut off his legs also and he'll spit in your face to blind you. His will allows him to keep going where others would not. Of course he is still human – it just takes him longer than most to realize it, once he gets going.

DISADVANTAGES:
Not a team player – Pete has a habit of alienating people and doesn't make friends easily (not that he seems to want any friends to begin with), which can turn into a vicious circle of him being left out of group activities only to see that as a reason to snub the group. Unless forced into working with others he prefers to act alone, even to the detriment of the people around him.
Human frailty – At the end of the day, Pete is just as susceptible to injury and disease as any human being. His attitude may allow him to keep going a bit longer than other people, but once the adrenaline is used up and the fight is over he will suffer the consequences – sometimes more so than other people because other people might have given up before straining themselves as much as Pete might.

Weapons Training: – Pete has been trained with all types of small arms common in the infantry, including assault rifles, light machineguns, grenades, and light anti-tank weapons and has practical experience using said weapons in actual combat.

HISTORY:
Once there was a Scotland Yard detective named Harold Wisdom. He had a lovely wife and two lovely children, Peter and his younger sister Romany. And they lived happily ever after ...

Only they didn't. When Pete was 15 his mother was killed, the random victim of a serial killer Scotland Yard had hunted for month. Till then Pete had been a pretty average kid, a bit rebellious, more interested in girls than his homework, not much different from any other boy his age. But his mother's death changed all that, alienated him from his father whom he blamed for the death of his mother, for his dad was a cop and if he had done his work, shouldn't he have caught the killer before anything happened to Pete's mother?

By the time Pete was 17 he dropped out off school and drifted pretty aimlessly for a couple of month. It was during that time that his mutant power manifested. When it did, his reaction consisted of two things: First, saying "what the fuck?", second, lighting a cigarette on the sheet of sizzling energy coming out of his fingertip. It really didn't bother him too much, as he had other worries. No longer being in school his father had pretty much financially cut him off and he didn't feel like learning a trade. And so Pete fell in with the wrong crowd, did some petty theft, got into fights, and eventually got caught. The judge let him go with a stern warning and put him on probation, which suited Pete just fine. He could see it in his father's eyes how disappointed his old man was with him – almost as disappointed as Pete was with his dad. But in the end his sister turned him around, pleaded with him to make something of his life and stop his drifting, and Pete never could say no to his baby sister.

The army looked as good as any option, so he signed up for four years. He could learn a few things there, they would keep him on the straight and narrow so he wouldn't do something so stupid that it would land him in prison, and he could earn a little money while he was at it. He actually enjoyed most of the army life, especially the combat training, but not so much the discipline, but he learned fast enough how to get by with saying just the right things and presenting the right facade when it was required. During his time in the Royal Army, Pete saw two tours of active combat missions in one of the 'peacekeeping slash nation-building' missions Her Majesty's government always seemed to engage in right after having forgotten the lessons of the last disaster. Yet while he got by without too many problems, discipline did prove to be an occasional problem for Pete, as much as he tried, not so much that the army kicked him out, but enough that he didn't make much progress through the ranks. So when his four years were done he packed his bags and said goodbye to the army without hesitation, only to find himself aimless again.

It was then, that he was contacted by a woman he had never met before and offered an opportunity. When asked about her Pete will only say that she was "some Scottish broad" and he isn't completely sure how she knew about his mutation, but she offered him a place at a school in the States. At first he was hesitant, thinking himself too old to go back to school, but it would mean paid room and board, and a trip to the States on top of that, so why not?

General Appearance: Mortimer looks younger than he is thanks to his awkward long limbed build as well as his unusually large eyes, his somewhat high voice not helping things. Thanks to the way he hunches, crouches and how skinny he's built, Toad looks smaller than he really is. His skin is green with blotches along his shoulders, back and legs, his hands and feet sporting a membrane of webbing between each digit. Due to his long toes which give him frog-like feet, he is unable to wear shoes. His hair is dreadlocked  and hangs a bit past his shoulders, deep green in color. His large eyes are too orange to be brown, but the color is close, a slice of black at it's center to form his slitted pupils. His teeth are pointed and triangular in shape and yellowed due to poor hygiene. His prehensile tongue is extremely long and a paler green than the rest of him. He wears casual if scruffy clothes most of the time and is usually seen wearing goggles around his neck or over his eyes in brightly lit areas.

Personality: Mortimer's personality is a volatile one, very reactive to his environment, but also reluctant to accept good things into his life. Mistreated for as long as he can remember and never feeling like anyone loved him or even cared about him he is fiercely loyal to those that can convince him that he means something to them. Until that point, he is suspicious and rude, assuming that you don't mean any of the nice things you say to him. The poor thing wants nothing more than to feel like he's wanted and that he belongs, but it's hard for him to let himself have those very things. Once his trust is garnered however, he is fiercely loyal and willing to do anything asked of him, even if it means putting himself in harm's way.

POWERS:
Superhuman Leaping - Toad's primary power is the ability to leap to heights and distances far greater than that of an ordinary human. He possesses a degree of superhuman strength, particularly in his back and legs, which grants him his superior leaping abilities (able to reach 25 feet in a vertical leap and 37 feet in a broad jump), as well as deliver kicks with superhuman force. This also grants him the ability to bench press 7 tons with his legs in comparison to the 1 ton he can lift with his upper body. Although the Toad usually stands in a crouching position, he can stand erect if he wishes. His unusually flexible spine enables him to crouch continually without strain.

Flexible Bone Structure - The Toad's bone structure enables him great flexibility. He can remain in a crouching position for long periods of time and perform contortionist type feats without causing any damage to his spine.

Superhuman Stamina - The Toad's muscles produce a significantly lower amount of fatigue toxins during physical activity than the muscles of an ordinary human. He can exert himself at peak capacity for several hours before fatigue begins to impair him.

Superhuman Agility - The Toad's overall equilibrium application is enhanced to some degree and his bodily coordination and balance are enhanced to levels that are beyond the human body's natural limits. This allows him to easily keep his balance on unstable surfaces such as a floor starting to give way in the wake of an earthquake and to move normally over limited space such as a rope or pipe.

Superhuman Reflexes - The Toad's reflexes are enhanced to levels that are beyond the human body's natural limits. This allows him to get out of the way of danger quickly enough that it is hard to shoot such a fast target without significant skill, luck or quantity.

Superhuman Durability - The Toad's body is tougher and more resistant to physical injury than an ordinary human's. He can withstand major impacts and physical trauma that would severely injure or kill an ordinary human with moderate discomfort. He is not invulnerable to damage, but he can get back up from things that could kill all but the luckiest of humans making him very hard to keep down let alone kill.

Regenerative Healing Factor - The Toad has a limited healing factor that allows him to recover from injuries and ailments at an accelerated rate when compared to humans. He can recover from minor ailments, such as a cold, within a few hours. Larger, more damaging injuries, such as broken bones, heal within a matter of days. He has also regenerated severed body parts, such as when he regenerated his tongue, which had been completely cut off. Regenerating a lost body part can take weeks depending on how much there is to grow back and of course assuming the injury doesn't kill him before then via blood loss for example.

UV/Infrared Vision -  The Toad's enhanced vision allows him to see into the ultraviolet and infrared spectrum, granting him a degree of heightened night vision. However, his eyes are also sensitive to certain types of lighting, forcing him to wear light-filtering goggles that allow him to operate in strong daylight that would otherwise blind him.

Prehensile Tongue - The Toad has the ability to extend his tongue up to 30 feet in length and use it as a whip to ensnare objects and people. His tongue is superhumanly strong, capable of lifting and crushing a grown man to death.

Acidic Saliva - The Toad's saliva can be highly acidic and can adheres to most surfaces and quickly dissolve most materials with ease. This ability is usually paired up with his superhuman respiratory system to allow him to spit this acid a distance roughly of 50 feet.

Paralytic Resin - The Toad's pores can secrete an adhesive resin that allows him to stick to any surface and paralyzes the nervous systems of any living organism that comes into contact with it. Unfortunately, the resin has an unpleasant smell which discourages most from lingering in close proximity to him for longer than they have to.

Superhuman Respiratory System - The Toad's lungs can expand and compress large quantities of air that can be expelled with enough force to knock a fully grown human off their feet. This also allows him to hold his breath for up to an hour.

Amphibian Control - The Toad the ability to psionically communicate with and control amphibian life, such as frogs, toads, newts, and salamanders, who he can use as spies.

ADVANTAGES:
Sharp Memory - Toad has keen memorization skills. This allows him to operate complicated and even alien technology. However, he /needs/ this instruction as he is not intuitive enough to figure out how to use unfamiliar tech or machines.

Multidexterity - His fingers, toes and tongue are all very dexterous, enough so that he is comfortable doing very precise actions with any of them, such as writing.

DISADVANTAGES:
Limited Free Thinking - In relation to his first advantage, Toad doesn't think well on his own. He follows instruction with the best of them, but to really excel he needs to be told how something works or what to do. For example, if you were to set him before a machine and tell him how it works and how to fix it, he could operate and fix this machine. If you gave him a newer version of the machine that is very similar, but there are differences between them, he would not know how to deal with the new aspects of the machine, despite their similarities.

Sensitive Skin - Mort, like his more amphibious cousins, has absorbent skin. Though not as sensitive as actual amphibians, his skin is still absorbante  enough that he is easily poisoned in this way. As a result he has poor hygiene, preferring to smell poorly and have people think less of him than risk bathing and get horribly sick from the soap. He is so embarrassed by this weakness that he refuses to tell anyone and just let's them think he's dirty as a result of depression. He is indeed depressed, but that's not why he's unwashed.

Sensitive Eyes - Mortimer has such keen eyesight that bright lights literally blind him. He must wear light filtering goggles to counteract this or he cannot function during the day or in brightly lit rooms.

SKILLS:
Street Smarts: Having lived on the streets for years, Morty has learned where the best places to find things to eat or salvage to sell as well as good places to hide. He's learned to find out who's cool and who to avoid when entering new areas as there's always a pecking order to consider.
Pickpocket: It takes skill to slip a wallet or phone out of someone's pocket or purse without them noticing and Toad has had years to practice and refine that very skill. After his secondary mutation, he found himself in even more need for stealth and can now manage to swipe things from most people without even being seen.
Computer Literate: Though he's not great with them yet, he knows how to turn on a computer, use the mouse and keyboard, navigate Windows and the internet as well as send e-mails. He can't do much else with them as of yet.
Car Mechanic: His past on the street resulted in him learning how to repair many common models of cars as well as how to dismantle them. As long as he's familiar with the make and model he could completely dismantle clean and then reassemble it.

HISTORY:
Mortimer was born in York and looked rather different than he does now. He was a small and skinny kid, that much remained true, but his skin was fair and his hair was brown and eyes to match. Normal enough looking little boy. His parents abandoned their baby in an orphanage when he was young enough not to remember them at all and so the orphanage was all he knew. He grew up in the orphanage, teased by his peers and outcasted by them. He liked to climb up into high places to get away from everyone, spending time on the roof or up in trees. His favorite place was by a small pond where every season there were new tadpoles. He wasn't allowed to bring them in, but he liked to watch them grow into cute little frogs all the same. His habit of hunching and crouching earned him his nickname and at first he didn't realize that it was an insult. He quite liked toads and frogs after all so being named as such was okay by him! Nicknames were a sign of friendship too, right?

He did eventually realize that all the other children found the amphibians he so liked to be gross and that he'd been named after one for that very opinion. He was heart broken and what effort he'd been making to try and be friends ended more or less there. He turned to his amphibious friends for company after that, which didn't help with the other children, particularly when they caught him talking with them. They insisted that frogs were dumb and couldn't understand him. He knew they couldn't talk like people did, that would be silly, but he understood them. Not in words, but still, he understood.

By the time he was thirteen, he cared little for the people that lived with him at the orphanage and had long since accepted that he would never be adopted. He continued right on talking with his frog friends, watching as they went about their lives, but something changed. He'd always thought he could understand them better than most, but... It was different now. Before he thought he knew how they felt and what they were thinking, but now he was sure he knew. He couldn't explain it, but he knew that he was right. This was also the time he made the mistake that finally drove him away from the orphanage. He caught a boy catching one of his frogs and squeezing him too hard. He'd told the boy to let the poor thing go, that he was afraid and that it hurt. When the boy insisted that the frog was fine, Mort had insisted that the frog had told him it hurt and was afraid. The boy had stared at him for a moment before throwing the frog to the ground as hard as he could, killing the innocent amphibian. Enraged by the callous murder of the innocent animal he'd attacked the boy and with strength he didn't know he possessed he beat the boy into unconsciousness him before he caught himself, the snap of a bone jarring him back to reality.

Fearful of what would be done to him when they were found, he fled and never looked back. From then on he lived on the streets of York, begging and picking pockets to get by. For a while this was enough, he was still young enough to garner pity it seemed. He managed to scrape a living out in this way, always making just enough to get by and finding little hard to reach hiding places to sleep at night or get out of ill weather. Three years later, that changed too...

Dealing with puberty by himself had been hard enough, but this was nothing short of hellish. His powers had already been starting to show up, but they were so subtle that he hadn't even noticed. It all felt natural and he just assumed that he was just talented, more agile, flexible, stronger and tougher than most. This was different however. He'd been sneaking around a scrap yard in hopes of finding some engine parts he could steal and sell for cash, maybe a couple of stereos. He'd done this here before with no trouble at all, but he had no idea that the owner had caught on and purchased himself a trained guard dog. He noticed the dog, but the dog noticed him only a second later and the chase was on. It tested his speed and agility as a dog is certainly faster than a person, adrenaline slamming his system as he scrambled to keep himself out of mauling range. When he finally reached the fence topped in barbed wire, he leapt right over the thing and kept right on running. More correctly, hopping. He didn't even notice he was doing it till he'd hidden in the little nook he'd found for himself recently and by this point his... Well, his everything ached. This was strange as he usually didn't get tired this quickly, but all the same he hurt all over. His eyes stung and even his skin and teeth hurt. This realization was what tipped him off that something was seriously wrong.

His mutation had been subtle before, enough so that he didn't even think that's what it was, but his secondary mutation was far from subtle. He grit his teeth as the changes took hold of him and sped up till he couldn't stop the screams. He could tough out pain with the best of them, but there was nothing like the feeling of your bones stretching and changing shape. His teeth grew triangular while his tongue felt too big in his mouth. Tears streamed from his eyes and the salt stung his skin which in itself felt like it was on fire. By the time the pain faded he was sobbing, curled up in a tight ball and afraid. The fear wasn't eased when he finally got a look at himself. Webbed hands and feet, green splotchy skin... He looked like a monster and he knew it! His life was ruined!!

Sure enough, life was harder from then on, anyone that saw him shrinking away in fear or trying to attack him for the same reason. He grew infamous quickly enough and soon it was hard to even hide and steal at night. He needed a change... Sneaking aboard a ship carrying massive crates, he hitched a ride to the US, New York to be more specific! Surely he would be able to start a new life here, even if it was in the shadows. The extensive sewer system certainly helped him get around, though life was still hard. Still for the next two years he trecked on with his life, refining his skills as best as he could on his own. He defended his little patch of sewer jealously, using the amphibians he kept as spies, other sewer dwellers dubbing him the Terrible Toad King as a result. He could certainly live with that. That was until he was approached by one of his own kind. He'd heard of other mutants by this point, but he'd had little contact with them outside of competing with some to scrape a living together. This one however, this one wasn't here to try and encroach on his carefully defended territory. This one was offering him a chance at life. A real one. Not one hidden in the lonely, dark, cold places where no one could see.

He didn't want to trust them. He knew he shouldn't. Still, the offer was too good to turn down and the Toad hesitantly allowed himself to be taken from his ragged excuse of a home and life to a clean manor where he felt more out of place than he ever had. Already he was starting to regret agreeing, but... Put bluntly, he would enjoy the guaranteed three warm meals a day in his belly till he was inevitably chased off when they realize what a mistake it was to invite him here.

Hydrated Vitality - Whenever he is in contact with water he gains massively accelerated healing.
Underwater breathing - He can breath underwater as easily as air.
Liquid and vapor forms - He can turn his body into vapor or water. Initially his body becomes liquid/gaseous but still retains his general shape, but if he loses control or wishes too he can disperse into a small cloud or puddle. He can't move very fast as mist, that form's top speed would be comparable to a brisk walk. Though, when in liquid form he move at about a sprint pace if he puts effort into it.
Enhanced durability - He's more durable than a normal human.
Water Manipulation - He can control water with effort. He lift it, move it and direct it. He is limited to the water immediately around him and that he can see. He will eventually be able to manipulate water that he can't see, he just isn't at the point yet. Though he will never be able to manipulate water inside a living thing.

He can also purify water he is controlling if he chooses to by separating the water carefully into very small particles, essentially making it a super fine mist, so all contaminants are no longer in the water.
ADVANTAGES:
Superb Balance - He honed his balance over years on a board. He knows how to distribute his weight well so he doesn’t fall over
Quick reflexes - His years spent surfing developed a fast, reactive mind that can handle rough waves and brawls alike.
Water sense He can sense nearby bodies of water, roughly how far away they are and vaguely how big they are.

DISADVANTAGES:
Cocky - He’s very self assured, even when he shouldn’t be.
Low Tolerance to Substances - He’s a real lightweight with any kind of drug. It does not take much to get him drunk or high.
Vulnerable to Dehydration - If he doesn't stay hydrated his powers lose their effectiveness and he becomes physically weaker.
There they go again - Kai’s powers do not affect his clothing, so if he turns into mist or water he leaves his clothes behind unless he takes special effort to keep them with him.

Fire Spinning: Being raised in Hawaii meant seeing people spin poi. It looked fun so he learned how, and it's a fun hobby for him. Something to mess around with while not surfing.
HISTORY:

Kailano was born to a pair of loving parents. They adored each other and they adored him. They were surfers and once their careers came to an end they began to manage other surfers. They were very good at what they did. They helped several surfers get world championship titles while Kai was growing up.

They got him on a surfboard as soon as they could. He could almost surf before he could walk. His parents never pushed him to become a surfer, but he took to it like they did. He was good. He had a knack for it, and because he wanted to go pro, he had an unusual childhood. His parents brought him all over the world with their clients. He loved parents and life. He got to see gorgeous beaches and cities and surf most days.

His parents, however, did not let him neglect his studies. They homeschooled him while they traveled. He thought his life couldn’t get any better. He had surf, sand sun and all the hot guys he wanted look at. When he was 14 he was surfing alone on some tough waves. No one was around so he was being more reckless than he should of been. and fell hard into the water. As soon as he hit the surface his body exploded into a cloud of mist. He was panicked and frightened. Being a cloud of water vapor is supremely disorienting for the young teen. He had no idea what to do and after a short while he blacked out.

He woke up on the beach, coughing up water. His board was nowhere to be seen and he had no idea how he got on land. His head throbbed while he tried to regain his orientation. His vision swimmed for several minutes. For several days he did not go into the water. Whenever he tried his vision would swim and he would remember his bizarre wipeout.

That’s when he was approached by someone representing Xavier’s institute. They explained what he was and what they were to Kai and his parents. His parents were ecstatic. They’re special baby boy was actually a special baby boy. They let Kai decide for himself if he wanted to go or not, they would be sad to see him go, but they could accept it. He decided he would go. It was too good of an opportunity to pass up. 

Kai enjoyed his time at the institute for the most part, but he always missed the beach and surf. He learned a great deal about his abilities working with the other mutants at Xavier’s over the next several years. His powers grew to more than just turning into vapor. He developed the full spectrum of his abilities within the first year away from his parents and he was very glad he wasn’t anywhere near the ocean.

After graduating and gaining a good handle on his powers he took a flight to Hawaii to stay with them for a year. That year is up, and he finds himself back at the institute, 19 and ready to work with his powers more, even teach a few people how to surf if they’re interested.

Anything from Marvel, long as you make it fit into the school setting and as long as its a mutant (or made to be a mutant) - no cosmic entities, magic and the like.

Double post, sorry!

Question though...my OC has a physical mutation. Kind of how Nightcrawler was born blue and with a tail, Toad always had a tongue, Maggot always had the slugs inside of him (they just couldn't get out)...my OC is an avian and I would like for her to have been born with wing buds, but she didn't actually develop any powers till she was older. Would that be acceptable or should she not start to bud wings till she's 16? I need to know so I can adjust her history if I need to.

She could be born with the wingbuds - just be sure to include in her history how hidden from others it was, etc. Basically she'd have had to really keep them hidden.

POWERS:
Flight - More a form of transportation and fairly basic, but it's her primary ability. It's not very complicated.

Pain Tolerance - Due to having hollowed bones, like a several bird species, they can be fragile. She is unsure if her ability to tolerate bone pain is a mutation or simply a body adaptation over the years. Either way, it takes more than breaking a bone to make her twitch.

ADVANTAGES:
ADVANTAGE1 - High metabolism. Basically being a large bird, like a vulture, who can survive on meats and fruits, she can afford to exert more energy.
ADVANTAGE2 - Confident public speaker

DISADVANTAGES:
DISADVANTAGE1 - Weakened wings, due to many years of tight straps to hold them down that she slept, bathed, and did everyday things in.
DISADVANTAGE1 - Hollow, fragile bones. Just because she can take the pain doesn't make a broken leg any less disabling.

DISADVANTAGE3 - Easily swayed by 'sob stories', despite knowing better.

HISTORY:
Long History
Lilli was born to Patrick and Viola Norwick in New Mexico. The two had married young and happy and immediately started trying for a family. Unfortunately, it turned out that Viola was infertile. Her womb could hold children, but her eggs were basically dead. After years of going over their options, they decided to get an egg from a donor and use Patrick's sperm to fertilize it.

They spent months sorting through and interviewing egg donors and finally settled on a young woman named Amanda. She was in her mid-thirties and had a PhD in genetics. She was extremely healthy and came with excellent references. It was an easy choice once they interviewed her.

While Viola was sad that the child wouldn't biologically hers, she knew she'd love it the minute she saw the first ultrasound. She was right. The minute she saw the little peanut sized child on the machine and heard it's 170 heart rate, she fell in love. Patrick, however, maintained a more logical view on things and wouldn't even discuss names or start to purchase baby items till at least mid-second trimester when most risks for miscarriage were gone. As the pregnancy went on, he became more and more unwilling to be happy about having the baby till it was delivered. Viola was upset by this, but she felt her husband would come around once he got to hold the baby.

After the baby was born, the doctor was concerned over some formations on the baby girl's back that had been brushed off as shadows on the ultrasound. Several tests later revealed that they contained bones. The doctor, and Patrick Kline, wanted to operate to remove the bones; but Viola wanted a second opinion. Then a third and a fourth. In the end, she refused to let anyone operate on her baby. Patrick tried to pull rank by enforcing the fact that she was not the biological mother, but Viola threatened to run away with the baby. Since all the doctors agreed that the bones were not in any danger of hurting the baby at the moment, Viola convinced her husband that surgery could wait till she was older. That they could wait till she was closer to kindergarten age.

As the first few years of her life went by, the baby was named Abigale and did all the things normal and average babies did. She learned to stand, crawl, eat, and talk. The formations on her back grew as well. Finally, Viola was convinced that they need to be looked at more closely. When the doctor recommended bringing in a veterinary specialist, the couple was floored. Somehow, their little girl had wings trying to push their way through the skin of her back.

Patrick was angered. Furious with Viola for not being able to have a child on her own that might have prevented this. Amanda for obviously having been defective in some way. And himself, because the doctors said that these sorts of new and rare mutations tended to be passed on from the father's side.

Not knowing what else to do, Viola refused to have her child operated on and featured like some kind of science experiment. She demanded one thing of her husband. That they move and start a new life where no one knew them. Somewhere small, quiet, and with a small population. Despite not liking the idea, Patrick would rather uproot his life than to be put on parade as the father of a freak.

With that in mind, they packed up and moved to a tiny town in Alabama. It was a former mining town that was mostly emptied when jobs moved on. Most of the people who stayed were below poverty line and were spaced out enough to not ask questions. While Patrick and Viola maintained their names, they changed Abigale Norwick to Lilli Kline. Viola took to home schooling their daughter while Patrick worked long hours away from home.

Even though he knew it was his child, Patrick had a hard time loving his mutant child. He crudely constructed a harness that would keep her growing wings down against her back to keep them from knocking over things in their small home. He claimed that was the only reason, but it also made it easier to look at her straight on without seeing the wings. He also instructed Viola to keep her hair dyed a natural brown because he attributed the white color it was to her mutation. The harness horribly disfigured her shoulders, causing large dents and welts over them and around her sides. The wings were mildly injured by the straps, but not as much as her shoulders.

As she grew, she knew she wanted to be out in the world, but she was smart enough to know that it was dangerous. One look at a news broad cast or a newspaper told her that much. The world didn't like things that were different and she was certainly different. Lilli didn't even step foot on grass till she was almost sixteen.

Despite her sheltering, her mother refused to let her be sheltered. She educated her daughter, she let her use a computer and the internet, she let her do arts and crafts, taught her how to write professional papers, taught her how to conduct herself in a business setting, and anything else she could think of that could help her daughter should she ever go out into the world.

Unsure of how, people from the Xavier Institute found them and offered to give Lilli a more proper education (not that it was entirely lacking) and the chance to be around people like herself. While Viola was unwilling to let her child go, Patrick managed to convince her. Stating that it would be good for her and for them. That they could finally have a life in the open again with her gone. Lilli didn't take it too personally, mostly because she wanted to go.

Lilli saw this as a good chance to start fulfilling what she wants to do with her life. Become a lawyer and learn to use her wings for their intended use...Also, living somewhere that she can have open windows sounded nice too.

By the time she was seventeen, she had managed to use the Institute's resources to get an official high school diploma and wants to start working on getting the college degrees she will need. Even if the world is unaware or fearful of mutants like her, Lilli is confident that her work will speak for itself someday.
