Is it possible to customize the 'Alerts'?

I get regular Alerts for replies on some topics I've posted on, but not on others. At first I thought it always happened when someone immediately followed up on your post, but now I see there are topics for which I *always* get alerts when someone replies even if my last reply there was several posts ago, and others on which I don't.

Is there a way to customize this, so I can choose on which topics I want to receive alerts and on which ones I don't?

In the drop down, when you click 'Alerts' at the top of this page,  there's a little 'settings' button where you can customize what you want alerts about.

Within that page, there's another option for "watched Topics" and another for "watched Boards" where you can further alter what's already happening with yours.

At the bottom of any topic you can click on "no alerts or emails" in lower right hand side to change the settings for a particular topic even if you haven't posted in it.
