Why does it have to be 4th?  *sulks*  I hates 4th ever since playtesting it.

Spider

Its 4th edition because its the best system that shadowrun has had not to mention the streamlining of the four main systems which were horribly separated in 3ed (mainly magic, combat, hacking and vehicle) which are now one system. Not to mention that the technology is again science fiction rather then just science fact with abit of cream on top ;)

The matrix is finally wireless instead of being stupidly locked into landlines and only drones could use wireless and even then it needed so much gear ontop that it wasnt worth the electronic warfare. Genetics and Nanotech has been expanded, virtual reality has finally taken the step into the real world with AR creating a beautiful hybrid which is alot more useful. Not to mention the much needed revision of the Otaku which were plainly silly. The technomancer fits alot better into the mix as the technomagician/shaman then the Oddones.

That is why we play 4th edition in my game ;)

Starfox

I prefer 4th Edition as well. Just runs a bit more smoothly.

Starchaser

Have you still got room in this game and if so what type of gaps are there to fill. I would prefer to play a shaman or a hacker but will play any missing archetype needed.

Spider

Well I am trying to figure out myself who we still have in the game, Im quite sure there is an opening, Im not quite sure what the group will need though. The more people that answere here and with the "general archtype" of their char. Would greatly help me and the rest of the group.

Starchaser

If it helps I already have a hacker character that I created for another game that died before it really got of the ground. Its 4th ed and is using the 400BP system.

I am not new to shadowrun but I'm fairly new to the 4th ed. I am more familiar with 2nd ed but I do have the 4th ed books.

Starfox

One thing I'd like to know is if our characters worked with each other before, know each other or if we are just meeting for the first time. I'd not mind coordinating backgrounds with other characters, if the GM is ok with it, though meeting for the first time also has its appeal.

Spider

Coordinating backgrounds are good, you will all get a free contact of my choice who will be one of your main Fixer who makes sure Johnsson gets the right crew for the right job.. Mainly you. Name and personality and gender of said fixer will be worked out later by me ;)

Starfox

Here's a first look at Keiko:

Keiko

Mechanically, she's got very little gear (other than her implants), due to her backstory and concept. (Still need to get basic commlink programs, probably going freeware (Unwired p. 110) with them if that option is allowed).

The background is not set so far - the crime organisation she owes money to can be adapted to whatever fits the group best (like, if someone is playing a Vory member she could owe money to the vory), as can other aspects of the character. Feel free to PM to discuss possible connections.

Starfox

I am not the best character builder, but if anyone has questions I could help some.

Spider

Sometimes its just like talking to a wall ;) alot of people dont put in note here even if they should just to mark that they are still active and interested :(

Same to you, Muse - would you like to coordinate backgrounds?

Spider

Muse

*waves to everyone.*

I would love to co-ordinate backgrounds.

I can change my character pretty easily at this point if it'll fit better (or might have to if I can't find her.)

Girl I'm currently working on is best described as an adept with a social focus.

I've been working on Shadowrun pretty heftily lately, did someone say they needed help?

Sure, I will coordiante backgrounds. The character I have is a Undercover Tir Tangire Ghost Who has had his mind wiped on certain details purposely and new ones implanted. He dosn't remember he's a Ghost for one, He thinks he's just Ex- Tir Military. He's a Stealth  and Infiltration Adept that loves to use Machine Pistols and carries a custom set of Colt Govornments.

Hm... improved attribute is rather inefficient in 4E. And hard-maxing magic is also expensive.

You could drop magic to 5, gaining 25 BP. Drop enhanced reflexes and icnrease attribute, invest the BP in gear, and buy synaptic booster (1) for 80K, and 0.5 essence. And buy muscle toner level 2 for 16K and 0.4 essence, leaving you with 4 points of magic, and 5.1 essence, agility 8. That's one more agility than you had, and same reaction, and one whole point of magic free to spend in addition to what you had before. Or replace one level of muscle toner with cybereyes and cyberears.

Starfox

Do you have Lifestyle, hobbies, contacts etc.? Ties to the Ancients (elven gang, one of the most powerful gangs in Seattle, with chapters in several north american cities.)?

Actually Cyberware takes points away from Magic.

Actually Cyberware takes points away from Magic.

I accounted for that - magic 5, reduced to 4 through cyber/bioware. You still come out ahead with one more magic point to spend than originally.

Paladin

Umm I'm going to stick with what I have so far. After I get my equipment selection made I may change my mind though. Whats your opinion on contacts? and background meshing?

Starfox

Contacts depend on your character's details. If he's undercover as some upper class socialite or security specialist, doing high-risk jobs (international or local) for different people in between enjoying his life he'll have probably a number of contacts related to that - a hacker, a smuggler to get to places and to get supplies, maybe another fixer, maybe information networks. If he is connected to a criminal syndicate instead of being a lone wolf he might have more ties to the gang or syndicate.
If he's a more middle-or lower class type, doing local jobs that run the gamut from legal to illegal, he might have more a private detective's contact network - snitches, gangs, cops, a fixer.

For background meshing I'd have to know more about him, both professional and private aspects. Was he sent to infiltrate some organisation, or to hide from someone? Is he trying to build a powerbase to take revenge on someone, or doe she have some private pursuits that he finances?

I am pretty open with regards to possible ties. Keiko could know him professionally and/or privately. I picked a Triad as the syndicate she owes money to, but that can be changed to any other syndicate to forge some links between characters, in case anyone else has ties to organized crime or a larger gang, or to a nightclub/stripclub she works at (dayjob). I have also not yet finalized what kind of hold the syndicate has on Keiko - could be a ritual sample stored somewhere, or some kink bomb implant, or some personafix implant (like "follow X's orders"), or psychological (feeling beholden/obligated for help received, or simply intimidated etc.).

Another PC could be a roommate, co-worker or even her boss or handler, or someone she met on the trip to Seattle.  Could also be someone who bought her "contract" from the syndicate.

Keiko's new in Seattle, somewhat recently arrived, so she'd not have known anyone for long.
