I've been having an ongoing problem with this, but never said anything because I thought it was something I was doing, but Aslyeen mentioned she is having the same trouble. For some reason, they are not always showing new posts or they do for a bit and then they disappear before you get the chance to reply.

Am not sure.. but I know that if you just show the posts and don't reply to them and leave for some time, the next time you come back and click on the link again they'll only show you the new posts from that time.

I think it's something like if you hit the Show new replies/Unread posts link, then don't do anything on the site for 15 minutes (since 15 minutes is when you disappear from the "Users Online/Users Online: 3 Guests, 15 Users/Users active in past 15 minutes:" list), your unread posts will reset.

It might be longer than 15 minutes, but I don't think so. Thus why I always use Firefox and open up all my tabs before replying to them. :)

My best guess anyhow. :)

Hmm might be something we can look at...when I have a lengthy list, it takes me 15 minutes sometimes to get through there.

Whee, IE7, still haven't got it yet. :)

Anyway, nods, and a note, it's not only when you click on those two links, but when you come to the site period.

Say I do this: In the morning, I turn on my computer, and I have my browser homepage set to Elliquiy main forums page, and with permanent sign-in on. [I don't have it set as homepage of course! But just saying.]

So I turn it on, and Elliquiy pops up, but I wandered off for a bowl of milk and cereal in the meantime, takes me half an hour to eat. Then when I come back, I hit on the Show Unread Posts link.

This will be empty, or close to it, because you 'appeared' on the last 15 minutes active list, then disappeared again, and when you disappear all your Unread posts go poof. The code is probably done so that it takes your "last logon time", ie those 15 minutes when you appear and disappear for even 1 second, and shows you all the unread posts AFTER that time.

Even though you didn't actually do anything on the site that time.

Ariabella

And then you have the person *raises hand* who bounces back and forth between sites (ebay, rpol, gmail) so I'm sure that doesn't help. But maybe these tabs will. *has a tab up for each site she frequents*

If you're using IE7 then that's why.  It's designed to operate similarly (can you say "rip off"?  I knew you could.)

Ellyssa

Heheh. Well, tabs or no tabs doesn't affect it.. the new posts thing disappear even if you don't close the screen, as long as you're idle 15 minutes on Elliquiy. So yeah.. :)

But I do that a lot too! 6 tabs is very little for me. :)

I never use the new replies and unread posts myself. I just find it easier to use the notify function personally

Ariabella

That would work for me if I were always in my email. But remember, I have to run through all unread posts as well for new members and things that need goddess attention. A sticky list would be nice...

The notify things keeps a list of the topics and things in your profile and tells you if there are new posts and things. Now for you Cindy 1 its a bit different because you're a goddess but it works just fine for me.

I just check the notify list every so often. But i only keep track of a few topics and that might be why it works so well for me.
