Foodfight is so gloriously bad. It's not just bad, it's surreal. Like you're having a fever dream that just goes on forever. The history/mythology surrounding Foodfight makes it even better. Something about the hard drive with the movie being stolen so they had to do the whole thing from scratch. Why did it take over ten years to do? Why does it star Charlie Sheen and Hilary Duff? Why does it have overt Third Reich references? Why is the entire thing a metaphor for why you should participate in mindless consumerism?

I made my friends get drunk and watch it about a year ago (no seriously, my plan was like, "All of you have to get drunk and watch this awful movie with me") and they got mad at me. They love bad movies, but this one was too bad. I love the Foodfight "fandom" and I have like 20 gifs from Foodfight on my hard drive.

I kind of want to buy it on DVD.

It's worse then that. After the footage was stolen (the original footage was nothing great, but it was a lot better) they tried to remake the footage in a cheaper and faster way by using motion capture technology. What they didn't count on was they were using human actors to animate characters with inhuman proportions. Dex is pretty much a human, so his animation is pretty solid, but his squirrel friend (can't remember his name) has tiny little legs, a very low pelvis, and a gigantic head, so the actors were really restricted in how they could move.

I admit I have never heard of Foodfight... but the trailer does look bad, indeed. This thing was in cinemas?

BTW. Have you guys heard of The Amazing Bulk... which is a Hulk-ripoff movie with zero budget?

As far as I know, it was supposed to be a real movie...

Sabby

I think it's important to note that there is a big difference between a movie that doesn't care, and turns out bad, and a movie that genuinely thinks it will be incredible and turns out awful.

Teo Torriatte

No one mentioned Rocky Horror Picture Show?

TheGlyphstone

And for that matter, a movie that is deliberately trying to be bad.

Beorning

Well, movies like Manos or Birdemic were made by creators who really thought that they are doing something good ;)

Sabby

True, though the director of Birdemic seems to have wised up afterwards. The sequel seems much more intentional in it's stupidity.

RHPS kinda transcends the genre.  If you watch it 'cold', and with no audience, then it's an entirely different film than seeing it for your twelfth time in a full movie theater with the Floor Show in full form.

I watched it cold/with no audience when I was around thirteen and decided that it was the Best Movie Ever. I also learned I was queer.

Have you managed to see it live yet?  I'm not saying that it's 'bad' either way, but it really is almost two different movies.

Do you mean seeing it in a theater while the people act it out on stage? Yeah, I've done that once. It was a lot of fun, but all the other chances I've had to do it since then, I felt kinda "ehh" about it.

I hate to double post, but I just saw this Foodfight! gifset that explains what I love so much about the "fandom" it has.  Gifset here

Also, I meant to post this before, but I forgot. If you are a fan of The Room, you should definitely check out the book The Disaster Artist. It came out last year and is written by Greg Sestero, who played Mark. He wrote this book about how he met Tommy Wiseau and how The Room came to be. A lot of stuff about being on set for The Room and what it was like living with Tommy. It's fucking hysterical and makes watching the movie even funnier, because you learn a lot of context for certain scenes and some mysterious questions are answered (why ARE there so many pictures of spoons?). But it's also kind of good in its own unique way, because you have this story of Sestero trying to make it big in Hollywood, and how meeting Tommy in one of his acting classes kind of messes that all up (for better or worse? you judge) and there are actually some kind of touching moments.

If you can, you should listen to the audio book version because Sestero does this wonderful impression of Wiseau's voice that makes all the scenes with his antics that much greater. He's so good at it, it's almost like Wiseau is narrating it too. My friends and I have started quoting The Disaster Artist almost as regularly as we quote The Room itself. Here is a snippet from when he was getting to know Tommy:

I would suggest making an account on Audible.com, and then using your one free audio book download to get The Disaster Artist. That's what I did. It was one of the best decisions I've ever made.

Phantasm 3 is pretty much the catch-all for this question.  Decent enough production values and pacing to stay entertaining, but the plot is awful and nonsensical enough at this point to keep it a gem.

Helps if you've seen the first two, but it can be just as easily enjoyed on its own.

The Day After Tomorrow, good characterization and storyline, although the science was so inaccurate it wasn't even funny.

A lot of people consider Mortal Kombat to be a bad movie. I will fight those people in the street.

Now, the sequel... holy fuck is that movie garbage. Not even enjoyably bad, just straight up terrible. There is a fight scene where no one touches anyone done entirely in slow motion. A character from the previous movie jumps into a scene via a portal, completely unprompted and with no relevance to anything happening, has a very short fight, then jumps back into the portal and the scene resumes as if he were never there. A man with robotic arms that can tear through metal like it's paper punches a concrete wall, leaves a hole bigger then his fist, and is stuck there for the rest of the fight.

Frozen Flame

The Last Dragon. It really falls so far into "terrible" territory that it comes out the other side to "awesome."

From what I've heard, The Room may replace it whenever I get around to seeing it.

ICON CULT CLASSICS shouldn't count like Plan 9 from Outer Space the greatest bad movie by the worst director of all time.

And your in a mob in costume with a live character montage going on with the movie its legendary to see the RHPS, and you can openly be a lesbian or other sexual minority and no one cares. Your part of the tribe.  ;D

I really do think that Manos is at least equally bad.  ;)

BTW. Has anyone seen R.O.T.O.R.? It's another amazingly bad movie...

Nowherewoman

Alien: Resurrection. Total camp, plenty of nods to the 50s and 60s Bad Movie genre, badass heroine, lesbian subtext...what's not to like?

I prefer not to remember that this movie exists...

Alien: Resurrection's special effects count as a nod to the 50's B movies, I believe.

Best Bad Movie for me is tied between the Room, Birdemic Shock and Terror, and Manos the Hands of Fate. All so terrible that they are amazing.

Not anything specifically pointing to a given movie. The appalling bad science, the equally atrocious script...it made me rather think of Green Slime, if anyone's seen it. Also, the fact that the baby hybrid WTFit was at the end, for the first time in the series actually LOOKED like a guy in a rubber suit.

The only direct reference to another movie that I'm aware of was stealing Snake Pliskin's "I heard you were dead" scene, but Escape from New York was 1981, so ok, out of time window.

And I agree, to an extent, Beorning- the first time I saw Resurrection, I loathed it (except for Sigourney, and Winona's boicut). I've seen it several times since then ( I spend a LOT of time in hotels, and no dirty smirks, please), and I've come to appreciate it as sort of the Uwe Boll wannabe entry into the franchise.

Heh. "Hybrid WTFit" :) Really, I found this idea quite bad. Although I must say that the hybrid's birth scene did quite unsettle me... in the Lovecraftian "What am I seeing??? My sanity is slipping!!!" kind of sense.

But overall, I really try to pretend that the series has only three entries. It's easier that way :)

Another interesting bad movie I remember is a TV disaster movie named Annihilation Earth.

It's a low-budget affair (with very poor effects) about how a supercollider causes global catastrophe. Why it's interesting? Because of the ending...

See, for most of the movie, the story is your bog-standard disaster movie. A catastrophe happens, scientists and authorities race to deal with the consequences, there are some personal subplots, too... Overall, nothing interesting. But then...

... this happens.

One element of the movie's plot is that the scientists are trying to stop the disaster from repeating itself. There's some discussion on how to do this, with one scientist claiming that going along with the plan authored by the government will cause an even bigger catastrophe and the destruction of the whole planet. In the finale, the government decides to go along with their plan, an order is issued, a button is pressed...

... and Earth explodes. The end. Credits.

Basically, it's a whole movie of plots and subplots - all of which go along typical disaster movie tropes - which lead to an ending where everyone dies. Everyone, like in *literally* everyone. The whole planet blows up. Just like that. It's like, say, an earthquake movie where the protagonist try to survive for two hours, only to be swallowed by an even bigger earthquake in the final scene...

I admit I know of no disaster movie that went with that kind of thing, so... Annihilation Earth gets some points for doing that. Although it's a really crappy movie aside from that...
