OK, the what are you listening to thread is getting a little monotonous, all we are doing is listening a song and that doesn't really do much, other than take up bandwidth, does it?

So, I thought why not find out WHY people play specific songs.
Does the song have a memory attached to it, does it make you feel good, angry, sad, why do you have it on your play list?

Then I thought, why not go even further, why not add a link to the video of the song, if there is one and maybe share the lyrics as well?

So....
Here goes with my choice of the day.
We listen to Rammstein a lot here, the band is not only versatile, but the music itself can invoke many different moods, even before you can fully understand the lyrics themselves.

Strangely and I had reached a part in our game together where we needed a bit of grit and mind set, so this is what we chose to play....

Not only does the music and Till Lindemann's voice make my skin crawl on this one, (we actually have an even heavier version, than the one shown on the video), but the subject matter, (based on a real life story), is very, very dark....

MEIN TEIL

Looking for a well-built eighteen to thirty-year-old to be slaughtered
The Master Butcher

Today i will meet a gentleman
He likes me so much he could eat me up
soft things and even hard ones
are on the menu

Because you are
what you eat
and you know
what it is

It is my thing - no
My thing - no
Because that's my thing - no
My thing - no

The dull blade - good and proper
I'm bleeding heavily and feeling sick
Although I have to fight to stay awake
I keep eating while in convulsions
It's just so well seasoned
and so nicely flambéed
and so lovingly served on porcelain
and with it, a good wine and gentle candlelight
Yeat, I'll take my time
You've got to have some culture

Because you are
what you eat
and you know
what it is

It is my thing - no
My thing - no
Because that's my thing - no
Yes it's my thing - no

A cry will ascend to heaven
It will cut through hosts of angels
Feather-flesh will shriekingly fall
from the top of the clouds into my childhood

It is my thing - no
My thing - no
Because that's my thing - no
My thing - no

Nick Cave is without a doubt the artist I have the most records of. He's bloody brilliant that man. I've sort of rediscovered him since I started playing Retaking the Night. What better theme music in a game dealing with vampires, demons and Phantom Rapists?

Almost all of his songs have something to offer, I get plenty of inspiration listening to them. But Loverman really stick out. When I listened to it again, after having the record packed away for over a year, it made me jump. That's my game right there!
Well, sort of at least.

Loverman

There's a devil waiting outside your door
(How much longer?)
There's a devil waiting outside your door
It is bucking and braying and pawing at the floor
And he's howling with pain and crawling up the walls
There's a devil waiting outside your door
He's weak with evil and broken by the world
He's shouting your name and he's asking for more
There's a devil waiting outside your door

Loverman! Since the world began
Forever, Amen Till end of time Take off that
dress I'm coming down I'm your loverman
Cause I am what I am what I am what I am

L is for LOVE, baby
O is for ONLY you that I do
V is for loving VIRTUALLY all that you are
E is for loving almost EVERYTHING that you do
R is for RAPE me
M is for MURDER me
A is for ANSWERING all of my prayers
N is for KNOWING your loverman's going to
be the answer to all of yours

Loverman! Till the bitter end
While empires burn down Forever and ever
and ever and ever Amen I'm your loverman
So help me, baby So help me
Cause I am what I am what I am what I am
I'll be your loverman!

There's a devil crawling along your floor
There's a devil crawling along your floor
With a trembling heart, he's coming through your door
With his straining sex in his jumping paw
There's a devil crawling along your floor
And he's old and he's stupid and
he's hungry and he's sore
And he's lame and he's blind
and he's dirty and he's poor
Give him more
There's a devil crawling along your floor

Loverman! Here I stand Forever, Amen
Cause I am what I am what I am what I am
Forgive me, baby My hands are tied
And I got no choice No, I got no choice at all

I'll say it again
L is for LOVE, baby
O is for O yes I do
V is for VIRTUE, so I ain't gonna hurt you
E is for EVEN if you want me to
R is for RENDER unto me, baby
M is for that which is MINE
A is for ANY old how, darling
N is for ANY old time

I'll be your loverman! I got a masterplan
To take off your dress And be your man
Seize the throne Seize the mantle
Seize the crown Cause I am what I am
What I am what I am I'm your loverman!

There's a devil lying by your side
You might think he's asleep
but look at his eyes
He wants you, baby, to be his bride
There's a devil lying by your side

Loverman! Loverman!

Jude is a notable guy-with-guitar act in a sea full of them who, in my opinion, has utterly failed to get the recognition that his work deserves. His work ranges from angst to love-ridden to comical, and he touches on little pop culture references here and there without managing to date himself overmuch with them.

I'm Sorry Now

Welcome to my world
Won't you please find a seat
There is no need to worry
I'm the only one to meet
I just wanted to express myself to you
Hey undiluted and with nobody else to confuse

See I was Marvin Gaye and Bond, James Bond
I was taking all day so I could turn you on
And I hated when you'd look away
When I was inside and slowly gettin' to it
It didn't help a lot when you would turn around
And I was on the top
And you would say
Baby you can do it

I'm sorry now
And it's too late
I'm sorry now
Do you have to hate me
I'm sorry now
So sorry yeah
I wish you wished I wished you love
I wish you wished I wished you love

I hate spaghetti
And I also hate divorce
You probably already know that by then of course
I like the earthquakes
I like it when the world shakes
I like the cracks it takes out of the walls
When two people
Lovers
Are acting like dolls in the arms of each other
That's my alarm

I'm sorry now
And it's too late
I'm sorry now
Do you have to hate me
I'm sorry now
So sorry yeah
I wish you wished I wished you love
I wish you wished I wished you love
I wish you wished I wished you love

Life is so unkind
You can fall behind
You know that I'm inclined
To ease your mind
Anytime

So welcome baby
I wondered when your countenance would change
From sunshine and vanilla
To the raven tones of rage
And my back never looked so broad to you
As now when turned upon the fool who spurned me
Boo hoo hoo

I'm sorry now
And it's too late
I'm sorry now
And you have to hate me
I'm sorry now
So sorry yeah
I wish you wished I wished you love
I wish you wished I wished you love
I wish you wished I wished you love
I wish
I wish
I wish
I wish
I wish you wished I wished you love
I wish you wished I wished you love
I wish you wished I still wanted love with you
But I'm through it
Forget you

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.

Now Three Days Grace says or so I heard that it's about something other than what we here would consider, or what we would like it to mean.  If you look at the video there is some light symbolism of the life style. I heard it for the first time on Octane in a long car trip with my Dom.  On the way back we heard it again and laughed cause to us it meant what people here would understand as the life style or at least a semblance of it.

Pain lyrics

Pain, without love
Pain, I can't get enough
Pain, I like it rough
'Cause I'd rather feel pain than nothing at all

You're sick of feeling numb
You're not the only one
I'll take you by the hand
And I'll show you a world that you can understand
This life is filled with hurt
When happiness doesn't work
Trust me and take my hand
When the lights go out you will understand

Pain, without love
Pain, I can't get enough
Pain, I like it rough
'Cause I'd rather feel pain than nothing at all
Pain, without love
Pain, I can't get enough
Pain, I like it rough
'Cause I'd rather feel pain than nothing at all

Anger and agony
Are better than misery
Trust me I've got a plan
When the lights go off you will understand

Pain, without love
Pain, I can't get enough
Pain, I like it rough
'Cause I'd rather feel pain than nothing at all
Pain, without love
Pain, I can't get enough
Pain, I like it rough
'Cause I'd rather feel pain than nothing
Rather feel pain

I know (I know I know I know I know)
That you're wounded
You know (You know you know you know you know)
That I'm here to save you
You know (You know you know you know you know)
I'm always here for you
I know (I know I know I know I know)
That you'll thank me later

Pain, without love
Pain, can't get enough
Pain, I like it rough
'Cause I'd rather feel pain than nothing at all
Pain, without love
Pain, I can't get enough
Pain, I like it rough
'Cause I'd rather feel pain than nothing at all
Pain, without love
Pain, I can't get enough
Pain, I like it rough
'Cause I'd rather feel pain than nothing at all
Rather feel pain than nothing at all
Rather feel pain

i like this idea... funny, but lots of time i don't really listen to the lyrics - i spent a good portion of HS going clubbing and listening to a lot of dance and techno songs where it was about just the beat and dancing and all that and i still tend to put them on to sort of get my day off and the right foot, with a bounce and a smile... that being said, there are times when i get a bit, i don't know, i just need to look inside and there's a few people i turn to, but most lately it's been Tori Amos - someone got me to listen to here a few years back and i found that, especially with her first 3 cds, there were times that she was my ghost writer, somehow writing all the things that i felt and thought and getting somehow expresssing them perfectly - this year's been pretty much filled with incredible highs and lows for me and more and more i keep turning to those cds even though they tear me apart at times, because afterwards, somehow, i feel cleansed...

So I ran faster
But it caught me here
Yes my loyalties turned
Like my ankle
In the seventh grade
Running after billy
Running after the rain

These precious things
Let them bleed
Let them wash away
These precious things
Let them break their hold over me

He said youre really an ugly girl
But I like the way you play
And I died
But I thanked him
Can you believe that
Sick sick
Holding on to his picture
Dressing up every day
I wanna smash the faces
Of those beautiful boys
Those christian boys
So you can make me cum
That doesnt make you jesus

These precious things
Let them bleed
Let them wash away
These precious things
Let them break their hold over me

I remember
Yes in my peach party dress
No one dared
No one cared
To tell me where the pretty girls are
Those demigods
With their nine-inch nails and little fascist panties tucked inside the heart of every nice girl

These precious things
Let them bleed
Let them wash away
These precious things
Let them break
Let them wash away
These these precious things
Let them bleed now
Let them wash away
These these precious things
Let them break their hold over me

Precious ...
Precious ...

Around this time of here, as the rains begin to fall I, like many become melancholy, introspective and my music shifts from the hard and heavy artists such as Rammstein or Metallica to the more melodic, soft, and slowly drifts towards the Celtic artists such as Lisa Gerrard and Loreena McKennitt. Both of these artist fuse several different genres, using poems of old and putting music to them or taking an old Persian melody and bringing it to life anew.

The following is one of my favourites, the tragedy of it speaks to me, every time I hear it when listening to the album, I have to stop and just listen to the words and accompanying music.

The Highway Man
Lyrics by Alfred Noyes,
Music by Loreena McKennitt

The wind was a torrent of darkness among the gusty trees
The moon was a ghostly galleon tossed upon the cloudy seas
The road was a ribbon of moonlight over the purple moor
And the highwayman came riding,
Riding, riding,
The highwayman came riding, up to the old inn-door.

He'd a French cocked hat on his forehead, a bunch of lace at his chin,
A coat of claret velvet, and breeches of brown doe-skin;
They fitted with never a wrinkle; his boots were up to the thigh!
And he rode with a jewelled twinkle,
His pistol butts a-twinkle,
His rapier hilt a-twinkle, under the jewelled sky.

Over the cobbles he clattered and clashed in the dark innyard,
And he tapped with his whip on the shutters, but all was locked and barred;
He whistled a tune to the window, and who should be waiting there
But the landlord's black-eyed daughter,
Bess, the landlord's daughter,
Plaiting a dark red love-knot into her long black hair.

"One kiss, my bonny sweetheart, I'm after a prize tonight,
But I shall be back with the yellow gold before the morning light;
Yet if they press me sharply, and harry me through the day,
Then look for me by the moonlight,
Watch for me by the moonlight,
I'll come to thee by the moonlight, though hell should bar the way.

He rose upright in the stirrups; he scarce could reach her hand
But she loosened her hair i' the casement! His face burnt like a brand
As the black cascade of perfume came tumbling over his breast;
And he kissed its waves in the moonlight,
(Oh, sweet black waves in the moonlight!)
Then he tugged at his rein in the moonlight, and galloped away to the west.

He did not come at the dawning; he did not come at noon,
And out of the tawny sunset, before the rise o' the moon,
When the road was a gypsy's ribbon, looping the purple moor,
A red-coat troop came marching,
Marching, marching
King George's men came marching, up to the old inn-door.

They said no word to the landlord, they drank his ale instead,
But they gagged his daughter and bound her to the foot of her narrow bed;
Two of them knelt at the casement, with muskets at their side!
there was death at every window
and hell at one dark window;
For Bess could see, through the casement,
The road that he would ride.

They had tied her up to attention, with many a sniggering jest;
They had bound a musket beside her, with the barrel beneath her breast!
"now keep good watch!" And they kissed her.
She heard the dead man say
"Look for me by the moonlight
Watch for me by the moonlight
I'll come to thee by the moonlight, though hell should bar the way!"

She twisted her hands behind her, but all the knots held good!
She writhed her hands till her fingers were wet with sweat or blood!
They stretched and strained in the darkness and the hours crawled by like years!
Till, now, on the stroke of midnight,
Cold, on the stroke of midnight,
The tip of one finger touched it!
The trigger at least was hers!

Tlot-tlot! Had they heard it? The horse-hoofs were ringing clear
Tlot-tlot, in the distance! Were they deaf that they did not hear?
Down the ribbon of moonlight, over the brow of the hill,
The highwayman came riding,
Riding, riding!
The red-coats looked to their priming!
She stood up straight and still!

Tlot in the frosty silence! Tlot, in the echoing night!
Nearer he came and nearer! Her face was like a light!
Her eyes grew wide for a moment! She drew one last deep breath,
Then her finger moved in the moonlight,
Her musket shattered the moonlight,
Shattered her breast in the moonlight and warned him with her death.

He turned; he spurred to the west; he did not know she stood
bowed, with her head o'er the musket, drenched with her own red blood!
Not till the dawn he heard it; his face grew grey to hear
How Bess, the landlord's daughter,
The landlord's black-eyed daughter,
Had watched for her love in the moonlight, and died in the darkness there.

Back, he spurred like a madman, shrieking a curse to the sky
With the white road smoking behind him and his rapier brandished high!
Blood-red were the spurs i' the golden noon; wine-red was his velvet coat,
when they shot him down on the highway,
Down like a dog on the highway,
And he lay in his blood on the highway, with the bunch of lace at his throat.

Still of a winter's night, they say, when the wind is in the trees,
When the moon is a ghostly galleon, tossed upon the cloudy seas,
When the road is a ribbon of moonlight over the purple moor,
A highwayman comes riding,
Riding, riding,
A highwayman comes riding, up to the old inn-door.

Wow, I love this idea :)

Right now I've just woken up and so I've got The Air That I Breathe playing. Its a song by All That Remains, one of my favourite bands. I'm playing it now because I'm getting up and this song is just so energetic. Its hard to explain, but the pace of it actually does kind of hype you up.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GG9qlKEyV4E

I will not relent no, no
Never live with defeat never falter
This like the air that I breathe
I will not choke on failure

I am a mortal man
But I'm not fallen
I'm not broken
I am a mortal man But I'll
Hold tight to my beliefs

I have suffered defeat, pain, loss
Still I push to the edge, never falter
For this cement my beliefs
I'll will not choke on failure

I will not relent

This song and video always appealed to my vindictive side, in that while I believe you should live for yourself, and not get in the habit of measuring your success against that of others, there's no reason you can't enjoy karma catching up with the people who used to make you miserable. As the video illustrates... sometimes Karma needs a helping hand.

Lily Allen's "Smile"

When you first left me I was wanting more
But you were fucking that girl next door, what cha do that for (what cha do that for)
When you first left me I didn't know what to say
I never been on my own that way, just sat by myself all day

I was so lost back then
But with a little help from my friends
I found a light in the tunnel at the end
Now you're calling me up on the phone
So you can have a little whine and a moan
And it's only because you're feeling alone

At first when I see you cry,
yeah it makes me smile, yeah it makes my smile
At worst I feel bad for a while,
but then I just smile I go ahead and smile

Whenever you see me you say that you want me back
And I tell you it don't mean jack, no it don't mean jack
I couldn't stop laughing, no I just couldn't help myself
See you messed up my mental health I was quite unwell

I was so lost back then
But with a little help from my friends
I found a light in the tunnel at the end
Now you're calling me up on the phone
So you can have a little whine and a moan
And it's only because you're feeling alone

At first when I see you cry,
yeah it makes me smile, yeah it makes my smile
At worst I feel bad for a while,
but then I just smile I go ahead and smile

lalalalalalalalalalalalalalalala lalala

At first when I see you cry,
yeah it makes me smile, yeah it makes my smile
At worst I feel bad for a while,
but then I just smile I go ahead and smile

TwiSTed SiSTer - We're Not Gonna Take It

Growing up, Twisted Sister was probably the first band I really got into, and this song became an early and firm favourite. I'd go so far as to say it's probably my all time favourite song. The video plays like a cartoon, and appeals to my sense of humour.

As for why this is a favourite ... I can be an exceptionally stubborn individual (just ask my wife  ;D ), and trying to force me to do something I don't want to do is an exercise in futility. This song resonates well with that aspect of me. Right or wrong, I will make my own choices.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=jjtg05HdwUg

We're not gonna take it
No, we ain't gonna take it
We're not gonna take it anymore

We've got the right to choose and there ain't no way we'll lose it
This is our life, this is our song
We'll fight the powers that be just, don't pick our destiny 'cause
You don't know us, you don't belong

Oh, you're so condescending, your gall is never ending
We don't want nothin', not a thing, from you
Your life is trite and jaded, boring and confiscated
If that's your best, your best won't do

Oh
Oh
We're right, yeah
We're free, yeah
We'll fight, yeah
You'll see, yeah

We're not gonna take it
No, we ain't gonna take it
We're not gonna take it anymore

No way

Solo - Eddie

Oh
Oh
We're right, yeah
We're free, yeah
We'll fight, yeah
You'll see, yeah

We're not gonna take it
No, we ain't gonna take it
We're not gonna take it anymore

We're not gonna take it (no)
No, we ain't gonna take it
We're not gonna take it anymore (just you try and make us)

We're not gonna take it (come on)
No, we ain't gonna take it (you're all worthless and weak)
We're not gonna take it anymore (now drop and give me twenty)

We're not gonna take it (a pledge pin)
No, we ain't gonna take it (on your uniform)
We're not gonna take it anymore

The Last Night, by Skillit.

Its a very emotional song, ecspecially for me since I'm in a relationship with a cutter. Right now she's sick and kinda down, so I got this song on to try and handle it easier.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ejeCJpwChc

You come to me with your scars on your wrist
you tell me this will be the last night feeling like this
I just came to say goodbye
I didn’t want you to see me cry, I’m fine
But I know it’s a lie

Chorus:
This is the last night you’ll spend alone
Look me in the eyes so I know you know
I’m everywhere you want me to be
The last night you’ll spend alone
I’ll wrap you in my arms and I won't let go
I’m everything
You need me to be

Your parents say everything is your fault
But they don’t know you like I know you they don't know you at all

I’m so sick of when they say
It's just a phase, you'll be o.k. you're fine
But I know it's a lie

Bridge:
The night is so long when everything’s wrong
If you give me a chance
I will help you hold on
tonight
tonight

I won’t let you say goodbye
And I’ll be your reason why
the last night away from me
away from me

I'm the dandy highwayman who you're too scared to mention
I spend my cash on looking flash and grabbing your attention
the devil take your stereo and your record collection!
the way you look you'll qualify for next year's old age pension!

Stand and deliver your money or your life!
try and use a mirror no bullet or a knife!

I'm the dandy highwayman so sick of easy fashion
the clumsy boots, peek-a-boo roots that people think so dashing
so what's the point of robbery when nothing is worth taking?
it's kind of tough to tell a scruff the big mistake he's making

Stand and deliver your money or your life!
try and use a mirror no bullet or a knife!

and even though you fool your souls
your conscience will be mine
all mine

We're the dandy highwaymen so tired of excuses
of deep meaning philosophies where only showbiz loses
we're the dandy highwaymen and here's our invitation
";throw your safety overboard and join our insect nation";

Stand and deliver your money or your life!
try and use a mirror no bullet or a knife!

and even though you fool your souls
your conscience will be mine, all mine

da diddley qa qa da diddley qa qa

I'm listening to M.T.A. by the Kingston Trio... because I'm homesick.

(side note: Dropkick Murphys did a great cover of this replacing "man who never returned" with "skinhead who never returned")

Spoken:
These are the times that try men's souls. In the course of our nation's history, the people of Boston have rallied bravely whenever the rights of men have been threatened. Today, a new crisis has arisen. The Metropolitan Transit Authority, better known as the M.T.A., is attempting to levy a burdensome tax on the population in the form of a subway fare increase. Citizens, hear me out! This could happen to you!

(Eight bar guitar, banjo introduction)

Well, let me tell you of the story of a man named Charley
on a tragic and fateful day.
He put ten cents in his pocket, kissed his wife and family,
went to ride on the M.T.A.

Chorus:
Well, did he ever return? No, he never returned and
     his fate is still unknown.
(What a pity! Poor ole Charlie. Shame and scandal.
He may ride forever. Just like Paul Revere.)
He may ride forever 'neath the streets of Boston.
He's the man who never returned.

Charlie handed in his dime at the Kendall Square Station
and he changed for Jamaica Plain.
When he got there the conductor told him, "One more nickel."
Charlie couldn't get off of that train.
     (Chorus)
Now, all night long Charlie rides through the station,
crying, "What will become of me?!!
How can I afford to see my sister in Chelsea
or my cousin in Roxbury?"
     (Chorus)
Charlie's wife goes down to the Sculley Square Station
every day at quarter past two,
And through the open window she hands Charlie a sandwich
as the train comes rumblin' through.
     (Chorus)
Now, you citizens of Boston, don't you think it's a scandal
how the people have to pay and pay?
Fight the fare increase! Vote for George O'Brien!
Get poor Charlie off the M. T. A.
     (Chorus)
He's the man who never returned.
He's the man who never returned.
Ain't you Charlie?

Everybodies Fool, by Evanescence

Just reminds me of the fake friends in my past.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u55fpsbzAfk

"Everybody's Fool"

perfect by nature
icons of self indulgence
just what we all need
more lies about a world that

never was and never will be
have you no shame don't you see me
you know you've got everybody fooled

look here she comes now
bow down and stare in wonder
oh how we love you
no flaws when you're pretending
but now i know she

never was and never will be
you don't know how you've betrayed me
and somehow you've got everybody fooled

without the mask where will you hide
can't find yourself lost in your lie

i know the truth now
i know who you are
and i don't love you anymore

it never was and never will be
you don't know how you've betrayed me
and somehow you've got everybody fooled

it never was and never will be
you're not real and you can't save me
somehow now you're everybody's fool

Most anytime I'm writing an action scene the past few months, I've had this song stuck in my head. Thanks largely to Hot Fuzz (as it was playing in the american adverts for it). It just has a deep riff that I rather like for ACTION!

22 miles of hard road
33 years of tough luck
44 skulls buried in the ground
Crawling down through the muck
Oh yeah

Johnny don't like the teacher
Johnny don't like the school
One day johnny is goinna to do somethin'
Show 'em he's nobody's fool
Oh yeah

22 miles of hard road
33 years of tough luck
44 skulls buried in the ground
Crawling down through the muck
Oh yeah

Sisters brothers make better lovers
Family affairs are under the covers...
Gina clocks the broken hearts
Won't let you leave until you're bleeding

Sally don't like her daddy
Sally don't like her friends
Sally and johnny are watchin' tv
Waitin' for it to end
Oh yeah

22 miles of hard road
33 years of tough luck
44 skulls buried in the ground
Crawling down through the muck
Oh yeah
Nitpicking naysayers barking like beagles, through the tall grass of poisonous tongues
Slide down your throat like an antidote you can quote...

Sweet Surrender - Sarah McLachlan

It doesn't mean much
It doesn't mean anything at all
The life I've left behind me
Is a cold room
I've crossed the last line
From where I can't return
Where every step I took in faith
Betrayed me
And led me from my home

And sweet
Sweet surrender
Is all that I have to give

You take me in
No questions asked
You strip away the ugliness
That surrounds me
Are you an angel
Am I already that gone
I only hope
That I won't disappoint you
When I'm down here
On my knees

And sweet
Sweet
Sweet surrender
Is all that I have to give

Sweet
Sweet
Sweet surrender
Is all that I have to give

And I don't understand
By the touch of your hand
I would be the one to fall

I miss the little things
Oh I miss everything

It doesn't mean much
It doesn't mean anything at all
The life I left behind me
Is a cold room
My freedom, my heart, belongs to one...
The most precious gift is that which is given, not taken.

People = Shit, by Slipknot

Because its true...

Its a good song for when your angry at certain people.

strangely made

Richard Cheese- Down With the Sickness.

Just because sometimes you need some easy listening music on. I put it on our list because, well it's played in one of my favourite films.

Do you feel that?
Ohhhh shit...

Wah ah ah ah
Wah ah ah ah

Get up, come on get down with the sickness
Get up, come on get down with the sickness
Get up, come on get down with the sickness
Open up your hate and let it flow into me.

Get up, come on get down with the sickness
You mother get up, come on get down with the sickness
You fucker get up, come on get down with the sickness
Madness is the gift that has been given to me.

I can see inside you the sickness is rising
It seems that all that was good has died
Oh, no. The world is a scary place
Now that you've woken up the demon in me.

BOBBY, WILL YA GIVE IT TO ME?

Wah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah

Get up, come on get down with the sickness
You mother get up, come on get down with the sickness
You fucker get up, come on get down with the sickness
Open up your hate and let it flow into me.

Why can't you just fuck off and die
And get down with the sickness
FUCK YOU, I don't need this shit
I'm down with the sickness
You stupid, sadistic, abusive fucking whore
Get down with the sickness

Here it comes
Get ready to die

Get ready to die.

This song made me cry. Not so much just the song, but the story behind it. And a connection that I can draw that applies to me. Believe it or not, it came from a children's cartoon that I'm not ashamed to admit that I watch (Avatar: The Last Airbender). A character, known as Uncle Iroh, is shown shopping in a market place. He's distracted by a mother and her crying son. Picking up a stringed instrument I don't reccognized, he plays this short song:

Leaves from the Vine,
Falling so slow,
Like Fragile, tiny shells,
Drifting in the foam

Little soldier boy,
Come marching home,
Brave soldier boy
Come marching home

At the end of the episode, he is shown with a picnic by himself, sitting across from a picture of his deceased son for whom he lights a stick of incense, crying as he sings the song again. Prior to the start of the series, Uncle Iroh had been a world renowned general, but was shattered with the death of his military son, retreating from an already successful siege of his enemy's capital city.

It made me think about what would happen to my family if I didn't make it back from this deployment. I'm still in tears typing this out.
Vidi, Vici, Veni*I sang, too.
Like the Avatar? I drew it myself.

Personal Jesus, by Depeche Mode. It's a song demanding trust and faith, presented in an aggressive, angry way, and very much fits my current mood.

Your own personal Jesus
Someone to hear your prayers
Someone who cares
Your own personal Jesus
Someone to hear your prayers
Someone who's there

Feeling unknown
And yore all alone
Flesh and bone
By the telephone
Lift up the receiver
Ill make you a believer

Take second best
Put me to the test
Things on your chest
You need to confess
I will deliver
You know I'm a forgiver

Reach out and touch faith
Reach out and touch faith

Your own personal jesus...

Feeling unknown
And you're all alone
Flesh and bone
By the telephone
Lift up the receiver
Ill make you a believer

I will deliver
You know I'm a forgiver

Reach out and touch faith

Your own personal Jesus

Reach out and touch faith

Perhaps my Winamp is trying to shift my mood or just make me cry, but it just brought forth Dave Matthews Band, Christmas Song. Their work is so often written off as stoner rock, but as an English major with love of wordplay, religion, and literary deconstruction, I've found many of his songs to be utter delights. And this one has a restrained power that just seeps into me and calms me, soothes me.

She was his girl, he was her boyfriend
Shed be his wife, and make him her husband.
A surprise on the way any day any day
One healthy little giggling, dribbling baby boy
The wisemen came, three made their way
To shower him with love while he lay in the hay
Shower him with love, love, love
Love,love,love
Love,love was all around.
Not very much of his childhood was known
Kept his mother mary worried always out on his own
He met another mary, who for a reasonable fee,
Less than reputable was known to be
His heart was full of love, love, love
Love, love, love
Love, love was all around.
When jesus christ nailed to his tree
Said oh daddy-o, I can see how it all soon will be
I came to shed a little light on this darkening sea
Instead I fear Ive spilled the blood of my children all around
The blood of my children all around
The blood of my childrens all around.
So Im told, so the story goes
The people he knew were less than golden-hearted
Gamblers and robbers,
Drinkers and jokers, all soul searchers
Like you and me, like you and me
Rumors insisted that he soon would be
For his deviations taken into custody
By the authorities, less informed than he
Drinkers and jokers, all soul searchers
Searching for love, love, love
Love, love, love
Love, love was all around.
Preparations were made for a celebration day
He said eat this bread but think of it as me
Drink this wine and dream it will be the blood of our children all around
The blood of our children all around
The blood of our children all around
Father up above
Why in all this hatred do you fill me up with love, love, love
Love, love, love
Love, love is all around
Father up above
Why in all this hatred do you fill me up with love, fill me love, love, yeah
Love, love, love
Love, love, and the blood of our children all around.

Cherri Tart

Don't know if anyone's familar with the oyster CD, but for me, at least it's a trip through memories both amazingly beautiful and amazingly painful and for me, one can never far from the other - this song was on the stereo the first time that my g/f and i made love...  it took us a few years to realize that we were in love, but now that i have, it holds a special place in my heart and i like to think of it as our song and the words, really, are so perfect...

"Walk This World" by Heather Nova

I have slept beside the winter and the green is growing slow
I have watched you find the places hidden by the snow
I have tripped into a valley that is blue till you can see
I want you to come walk this world with me

With the light in our eyes it's hard to see
Holding on and on to what we believe
I'm not touched but I'm aching to be
I want you to come walk this world with me

And I'm sucked in by the wonder and I'm fucked up by the lies
And I dig a hole to lie in and I build some wings to fly
And I think that I could love you 'cause you know how to be free
I want you to come walk this world with me

With the light in our eyes it's hard to see
Holding on and on 'til we believe
With the light in our eyes it's hard to see
I'm not touched but I'm aching to be
I want you to come, I want you to come
I want you to come walk this world with me

And it's burning in our fingers and it's burning on the road
And I like the way you're broken and I'll like you when you're old
And I see you in the garden and I feel you plant the seed
I want you to come walk this world with me

With the light in our eyes it's hard to see
Holding on and on 'til we believe
With the light in our eyes it's hard to see
I'm not touched but I'm aching to be
I want you to come, I want you to come
I want you to come walk this world with me

Cantina, by Voltaire
One of my best friends is a superb fangirl, and following the release of Hot Fuzz she made some incredible mix CDs for Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, and Nick Wright. And because she is made of coolness, she made copies of them for me. The Simon Pegg one has been living in my car all week, and without fail it seems to be somewhere in this song when I get out of the car, which therefore makes it stick in my head.

Well, I went down to Mos Eisley for a converter
Hell, ya know how hot it gets on Tatooine
Well, then I saw that there cantina
I'll go in for an orangina
I heard it was rough, but how bad could it be?

Well, I walked through the door, and the music stopped
Dead
All manner of man and beast were starin' at me
Seems just one week before
Their Twilek slave girl walked out the door
And I guess I was the next best thing they'd seen

Chorus:
I lost more than my heart in that cantina
I left my manhood there on Tatooine
Son, it don't mean you're weak
If you turn the other cheek
But if you spread 'em both for Jabba, son, you ain't a man

Ol' Hammerhead, he fixed his mind to screw me
Whipped out his tool and nailed me to the bar
My anus he destroyed
And now I got me hammeroids
With my spleen hangin' out my ass, I wasn't goin' far

[spoken] It only gets a lot worse.

I was hit over the head by Ol' Han Solo
I'da never guessed that pirate was a homo
I woke up next to Chewbacca
I was smeared in Wookiie caca
And what they did to my poor nipples was a no-no

Chorus

Oh, Salacious Crumb is so small, you can't detect 'im
Before I knew it, he shoved himself straight in my rectum
And then just to be heinous
He screamed real loud out of my anus
Now I've got an anal car alarm, and I can't disconnect 'im

Oh, Greedo, greedily grabbed his green weenie
And he yanked that sucker 'til it wa'n't so teenie
He took me into Jabba's hut
He stared intently at ma butt
And then he Oota-toota-ed me with his zucchini

Chorus

Well, a guy walked up and said, 'My friend doesn't like you.'
I said, 'Sorry.'
He said, 'I don't like you either. You better watch yourself."
And then some old dude who taught Vader
Chopped his arm off with a saber
And later made for one red-hot anal invader
Ooow...

I was broken on the floor, beat to a stupor
Then I was saved; there at the door were ten stormtroopers
But then my hope vaded away
I didn't know they cloned 'em gay
And they each took turns stormtroopin' me in the pooper

Chorus:
I lost more than my heart in that cantina
I left my manhood there on Tatooine
Son, it don't mean you're weak
If you turn the other cheek
Which is why I still go there every week

Gone Gone Gone (Done Me Wrong) - Robert Plant and Allison Krauss
Two great tastes that taste great together, the local non-clear channel station started playing this track a few weeks ago and I am finding myself slowly but surely growing obsessed with it. It's a low-fi seeming recording, in which their voices mix and complement each other incredibly well, and the passion of the song is only enhanced by the slightly raspy quality deliberately put in the recording.

Some sunny day baby
When everything seems okay baby
You’ll wake up and find that you’re alone
‘Cause I’ll be gone
Gone gone gone
Really gone
Gone gone gone
‘Cause you done me wrong

Everyone that you meet baby
As you walk down the street baby
Will ask why you’re walking all alone
Why you’re on your own
Just say I’m gone
Gone gone gone
Gone Gone Gone
‘Cause you done me wrong

Ohhhh now come on yeah
Ahhhhhh
Ahhhhh
Ah….

Ahhhhhh
Ahhhhh
Ah….

And if you change your way baby
You might get back to stay baby
You better hurry up,
You don’t wanna be alone
Or I’ll be gone
Gone gone gone
Really gone
Gone gone gone
‘Cause you done me wrong

Done me wrong now now
Ahhhhhh
Ahhhhh
Ah….

Ahh-ahhhh
Ahh-ahhh
Ah….

Some sunny day baby
When everything seems okay baby
You’ll wake up and find that you’re alone
‘Cause I’ll be gone
Gone gone gone
Really gone
Gone gone gone
‘Cause you done me wrong

Well well well well
Well well welllllll yeah!
