Idea pitch

Fires raged across the ship as the UNSC Liberator drifted through space.  The battle-cruiser had stumbled across two Covenant destroyers, and while destroying both, had been on the receiving end of major damage.  Chief 2nd Class Patricia Amer was suspended from the ceiling, spraying CO2 foam into a compartment of burning electronics that shorted out.  Engineers ran below her, and she yelled at one of them, "Get me a size 12 coil up here ASAP"  The engineering tech grabbed a coil from the toolbox below and threw it up at her, and she caught it one handed while reaching for the wire strippers on her belt.

The whole ship was in bad shape.  Damn Covenant plasma was accurate, and even with two MAC cannons to drive several tons of depleted uranium through the enemy hulls, they'd still gotten off enough shots to make their lives miserable.  Word was still out on how many casualties they had, but early estimates put it above 50%.  They were hurt, bad.  Worse, slipstream drive was offline, and that's what had everyone scrambling around working on.  Sooner they got slipstream back, they'd get back to a proper yard, if one could be found anymore.  They were deep within human controlled space, so at least they knew where they were.  Hopefully.

As another node got hooked up, Chief Pat repelled down and snatched up her toolkit, heading off to the next assignment when the skipper came on the horn, "Attention all hands.  We're heading towards the local gas giant to try and hide from further Covenant patrols while we make emergency repairs.  All hands are to remain at battle stations until further notice."

Pat took that moment to wipe her forehead with a dirty rag, leaving a smear of grease where sweat had just been.  Covenant were tricky bastards, , showing up where they shouldn't be or avoiding careful traps with ease.  On the ground it was a roughly fair fight, but in space, the bastards were unstoppable.  All Pat knew was that she had work to do, and she wasn't dead yet.  Her next assignment was helping patch a hydrogen line that had been cut.  For now, pressure was cut off and they were waiting for the last of the hydrogen in the line to burn off before attempting the repair.  After that, it was a quick patch of adhesive carbon fiber to hold the pipe shut while the hydrogen flowed to the engines.

Unbeknown to Pat, as they drew near the planet, sensors were picking up a large, very distinct ring-like object.

Sounds intresting n.n

I was thinking more of the lines of a UNSC ship carrying some spartens and marines and they end up getting sucked into a worm hole maybe ? .. or something else n.n
